This is a real puzzle with no clear answer yet on the boards that I could find. Two iMacs. One running OS X 10.5.8 and Firefox 3.6.3 and the other running OS X 10.5.8 and Firefox 3.5.9. Problem happens on the one running the newer version of Firefox only. When trying to open a pdf directly from a website, the dialog box only allows a save option with no direct open option. attaching two jpgs--one illustrating the problem (just the save option) and the other ("noproblem") showing what we want: a choice to save or open. What do I need to do on the machine with the problem to change the dialog box to the open and save variety shown in "noproblem"? Thank you!!

When opening .doc from website link, FF appends .docx extention to file & does not open in Word 2010, with incorrect file format error. Pls Help

I'm using Firefox v12 to open a hyperlink from a website that points to a filename.doc MS Word Document for download.
We are then asked to open the file with MS Word (Default), which our installed version is MS Word 2010.
Firefox then renames the file appending a .docx to the filename e.g filename.doc.docx. MS Word 2010 opens with error 'incorrect file format', which is correct as Firefox has renamed it.
Is there a fix or workaround for this?

I can save the file and it opens fine.
It's when I open it directly, Firefox appends the 'docx' extenstion to the filename.
If I continue to reopen from the web link, Firefox renames the file as so
mydoc.doc-1.docx
mydoc.doc-2.docx
mydoc.doc-3.docx
I can open a .doc from a Microsoft site ok.
I have the feeling it's the way the web server is reporting the mime type to Firefox.
The link in question works fine in Internet Explorer.

Force a window browser window close when open docs FROM THE KD

We have an issue when opening documents from the kd a browser window opens, then the office doc opens. But it leaves the blank browser window there open. I have looked into it, and it appears the ptcommonOpener may be able to be modified with a piece of javascript "currentWin.close" in the href that gets built with the link.
Does anyone have any experience with this or another way to do it.

the problem has been solved for me following the process :
1 -close entourage
2 - start and follow the complete reconstruction of the entourage database ;
3 - in the "entourage" menu, disable "office reminds" or "office recall" (i don't know the exact name because my entourage is in french)
For me it has worked. when i click on the dock entourage shortcut it opens without showing the new message windows at start.

Even though I have FF set to "Show my windows and tabs from last time" every time I open FF it just opens the home page. Why won't it open my previous session like it use to, even if I have that selected as the default state?

Nothing more to provide. Simple problem not opening previous session tabs when browser is opened after being closed. Was working fine until the upgrade to 7.0.1.

Make sure that you do not use "Clear Recent History" to clear the "Browsing History" when Firefox is closed because that prevails and prevents Firefox from opening tabs from the previous session.

"Document couldn't be imported" error message trying to open doc from mail

i can't open doc files
neither pages files
also it's not possible to open xls files in Numbers
if i simply open docs through itunes or idisk then everything is fine
but with mail i can't do anything about it (((

open your ind CC re save and choose cs6 version on box option when you saving that. cause earlier version apps cant open file from latest version, but isn't vice versa

Can't open docs from Desktop

After upgrading to OS X 10.4.5, I am not able to open Appleworks docs by double clicking. The app launches, but the doc never opens. I am able to open docs via File>Open within Appleworks. I have tried the usual Permissions repair and have trashed the Preferences files, but to no avail.
Any advice?

When you trashed the preference files, did you trash all of the ones I list in my user tip, AppleWorks has stopped working correctly?
Since AppleWorks will launch, I don't think it is a problem with AppleWorks not being set to open that file type. You might try adding the .cwk extension to the file name & see what happens.
After you've tried these suggestions, please post back whether or not it works. If it doesn't, there might be some other things to try.

Hi,
Firstly, you should not give the host name and port name of the URLs that you are using. It is your company's security issue.
And the message that you get for the wsdl , when you open in IE is nothing wrong.
The wsdl can be of two types. One is a design time wsd, where you will just see the structure, importing and exporting parameters. It does not have the binding parameters within the wsdl.
When the same wsdl is implemented, then it has a binding with the backend system. It becomes a runnable entity. The wsdl generated from your PI system is one such entity (It is tied to a backend and is a runnable web service). Hence IE shows that message.

I am trying to open facebook with my firefox 4 but the page is not opening. where as when i try to open it from a friends laptop(internet explorer8) it opens perfect. It also opens perfectly from my Iphone

I am unable to open facebook from my computer. I am using Firefox 4. whereas when I use my Iphone or my friends Laptop who is using IE 8. It opens perfectly.

I don't know if these are important or not, but I thought I would include them anyways.

Why can't I (or my users) check out a native document from a dynamic list in contribution mode? Is there any way to accomplish this (besides installing software on every client's computer)? I modified the default dynamic list fragment to use the pdf (web-viewable) link to the document in lieu of the regular Site Studio URL (so that Site Studio doesn't try to apply the document to dynamic converter), as I want to simply display the PDF when the user clicks on it.
All of that works great, and I can still check in documents just fine. However, "Edit Target" doesn't work in contribution mode, and even if I view the info on the document, and check it out from there, it doesn't even give me the link to download the original document. Is there a way around this?

I guess, image needs to be in the Content Server. You can try desktop integration suite or webdav so that user can easily checkin the digital assets to the content server.

Cannot open docs from older Word version on a Mac

data tarnsfer of docs wriiten in older Word version to my IMac. Cannot open these docs- screen says they are "blocked".

Try this:
Edit a blocked file
You can make changes in the File Block area of the Trust Center that will let you open, edit, and save your blocked file.
Click File > Options.
Click Trust Center > Trust Center Settings > File Block Settings.
Check the Open selected file types in Protected View and allow editing box.

What is the version of your Adobe Reader for Android?
What is the version of Android OS?
What is the mail app do you use to read email on Android?
When you try to open an PDF attachment, do you see the dialog "Compete action using" with the Adobe Reader icon? Does the dialog have "Always" and "Just Once"?
Could you tell us the exact error message that you see when you try to open an PDF attachment?
Does the problem happen with ONE particular PDF attachment? Or does it happen with any PDF attachments all the time?

Unable to open docs from server on iPad using IOS6 and iWork

Since upgrading to IOS6 in ipad 2, when I log on to my work network and try to open Excel, Word or Powerpoint files in Numbers, Pages or Keynote apps respectively, nothing happens. Prior to IOS6 upgrade I could open anything and edit etc. Now the open in screen appears and when I press open in numbers, pages or keynote depending on file type, nothing happens. So I can't access any of my work files.
I bought my ipad to do work on, and now I can't do any work on the go rendering my ipad useless! Any ideas when or if Apple are aware of this major issue and whether if it will be sorted out???
