Opening documents found in icloud

Hi there my app called "pages" had a lot of notes I saved and then one night it just all disappeared. I opened my icloud and when I hit "Manage storage" I see every document saved but the only option is to delete them to get more storage. How can I recover and open these documents?

I'm sorry what does that mean? Can you guide me step by step? If you mean "pages" the app itself, when you open it, every has been wiped. But in icloud, all the documents are there but won't let me open them.

  • Pages & Numbers crashes when opening a document ,no documents found when iCloud is turned off

I have just upgraded my iPad to IOS7 and my MacBook Pro to mavericks running the latest iTunes and also update pages and numbers.both crash when old documents are opened and the programs will only function if iCloud is switched off in settings but only when creating new documents .I have upgraded for more storage space and have 6GB free, many of my documents are invoices and are now unavailable to me so the situation is becoming quite desperate.
Any help would be useful .

    Hi Amy
    Welcome to the forum.
There are a few bugs in Snow Leopard.
You need to upgrade using the downloadable Combo OSX 10.6.2 upgrade.
    http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/macosx_updates/macosxv1062updatecomb o.html
Do not upgrade using Software upgrade.
The principle cause is a damaged Hoeffler Text font.

  • Pages won't open documents stored in iCloud

After a major crash of my iMac after installing Mavericks, I returned to my MacBook Air running Mountain Lion and installed Pages 9.0 (can't reinstall Mavericks on the iMac due to an extremely slow connection)
    Now the problem:
Pages won't show me my previously saved Pages documents in iCloud under "Open existing files". (Actually, it won't even save new documents on iCloud).
    For info:
"Documents and Date" is checked in iCloud system preferences.
All documents show in Finder under an alias folder I created of the Mobile Documents. But I can't open them.
Even "open with" will give me only Terminal as available app.
The only document that will open was a document created after the upgrade to Mavericks on the iMac...
    Any ideas what is wrong?
    Thank you very much

Apple has created a new unified file format for:
    Pages for iOS 2.0.1
Pages 5 for Mac OSX 10.9
    iWork for iCloud beta
    iCloud
Anything going through iCloud now gets converted to the new format.
Pages 5 only runs on OSX 10.9 and can open Pages '09 files but often damages them. It can not open Pages '08 files.
Pages 5 can export files back to Pages '09 but often with a much simpler format as Pages 5 is missing over 90 features.
Pages for iCloud beta uses the new Pages 5 format but lacks UI and many formatting tools.
Pages '09 can not open Pages 5 files at all.
Far from being a format for all it is a format for very few. It requires specific versions of all the software, running on only compatible hardware and operating systems.
I do recommend you stick with Pages '09 just to get your work done and that you do not update to OSX 10.9 Mavericks. This means not being able to transfer files back and forth via iCloud to your iPad. The best you will be able to do is Export to Word .doc and email that to yourself.
The whole arrangement is a rats nest of things going wrong. You are either stuck with the latest version of Pages with very few features, format that nothing else reads and all the bugs, or you use Pages '09 which works but will have it files screwed up by iCloud and can't swap files with the iPad version.

  • Documents stored in iCloud will not open on Macbook applications

None of the iwork apps; Keynote, Pages, or even Preview will open documents that were saved in icloud. They will open on my iPad, but when i try to open them on my mac, it says "the file ' ' .pages cannot be opened."  I have tried closing and reopening the applications on my computer. I have tried opening various documents but none of them will open. Does anyone know why this would be happening?

Found a solution on another thread from back in 2012.  Wanted to give credit where credit was due, so here you go:

  • I am trying to use the new iwork beta tools on iCloud.  I currently have 10.8.4 OSX on my iMac and 6.0.5 version of Safari, but when I try to open documents on my iphone in the cloud it tells me my browser isn't supported

I am trying to use the new iwork beta tools on iCloud.  I currently have 10.8.4 OSX on my iMac and 6.0.5 version of Safari, but when I try to open documents on my iphone in the cloud it tells me my browser isn't supported

Note that iWork for iCloud is only designed for PCs and Macs > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5779
To access to your iWork documents on the iPhone, install Keynote, Numbers or Pages from the App Store

  • Can't open documents in iCloud

I am suddenly unable to open any iWork documents stored in iCloud on My Mac.  (This is true for Pages, Numbers, and Keynote) Every time I try, I get an error message saying "The file "filename" could not be opened."
Pages (and Numbers and Keynote) are up-to-date on both my Mac and on my iPad.  I can access the documents from my iPad, and I can download them from iCloud.com and then work on them on my Mac, but I cannot open the iCloud copies directily.
I've made sure that I'm working with the new versions of iWork apps, not the '09 version that are still on my Mac.
This seems to have started with the latest round of updates to the iWork apps, but I could be wrong about the timing.
Any ideas about how to solve this?

Pages 5.01 will not open Pages 5.1 files and people are reporting that Pages 5.1 will on occassion not open its own files.
Currently nobody has a clue what to do about it except: Don't touch Pages with a bargepole!
    Use your previous iWork apps.

  • Can't open documents from icloud

I have Iworks 09 and have it installed on 3 macbooks. on the 2 macbook pro's it works fine but on the macbook air i can't seem to use versions or open/safe documents to the cloud. I checked the cloud setting and everything is as it should be.

I went to icloud, but the Pages doc will not open
Won't open on what device? You cannot open a document directly from iCloud on a Mac running Lion or earlier. You will have to go to iCloud.com in a web browswer & download the file to the Mac and then open it.

  • Document Creation error - "We're sorry. We can't open document name because we found a problem with its contents"

    Morning Friends,
I have created a SharePoint 2010 "Site Workflow" that is designed to take information from a form and create a Word doc with the gathered information and store this Word doc in a document library.
I am using Sharepoint 2013 with Office 2013
I understand there are a lot of steps (19) outlined below and I can provide more information as needed but the bottom line is this, workflow successfully takes info from an initiation form, uses the info to create a Word doc. Places this Word doc in a library.
When attempting to open / edit doc, receive error
"We're sorry. We can't open <document name> because we found a problem with its contents"
Details - No error detail available.
Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Very high level view of what I have done:
1 - Created content type called "Letters"
2 - Added site columns " First Name" and "Last Name"
3 -  Created and saved to my desktop a very basic Word document (Letter.docx) that says "Hello, my name is XXXX XXXX"
4 - In the advanced settings of the "Letters" content type I uploaded this "Letter.docx" file as the new document template.
5 - Created a new document library called "Letters"
6 - In Library Settings - Advanced Settings, clicked "Yes" to enable the management of content types.
7 - Then I clicked "Add from existing content types" and added the "Letters" content type
8 - Back in the advanced settings of the "Letters" content type I selected "Edit Template" and replaced the first XXXX with the Quick Part "First Name" and the second XXXX with the Quick part "Last Name"
    9 - Created a new 2010 Site workflow called "Create a Letter"
10 - To the workflow I added the action "Create List Item"
11 - Configured the action to create Content Type ID "Letters" in the document library "Letter"
12 - For the "Path and Name" I gave it a basic name of "Letter to"
13 - The next step was to create the Initiation Form Parameters and added to form entries "First Name" and "Last Name"
14 - I then linked the initiation form fields to the data source "Workflow Variables and Parameters" to their respective Field from Source parameters
15 - Went back to the "Path and Name" and modified the basic name of "Letter to" to include the first and last name parameters.
16 - Saved - published and ran the work flow.
17 - As expected, Initiation Form prompts for First and Last Name. ("John Doe") Then click "start
18 - Go to document library "Letters" and see a new Word document created titles "Letter to John Doe"
19 - Go to open / edit the Word document and receive the following error
thoughts? Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated.

See this MS support article for SP2010 workflows and generating Word docs:
    https://support.microsoft.com/kb/2889634/en-us?wa=wsignin1.0
"This behavior is by design. The Create
List Item action in the SharePoint
2010 Workflow platform can't convert Word content type file templates to the correct .docx format."
I've had success in using SP 2013, Word 2013 (saving a .docx as the template instead of .dotx for the document library content type), and an SP 2010 workflow using SP Designer 2013.

  • How do I  undo an update to pages 2.1 on an iPad 2? I can no longer open a document previously saved, even when I try to open it in the iCloud and on my Mac.

How do I  undo an update to pages 2.1 on an iPad 2? I can no longer open a document previously saved, even when I try to open it in the iCloud and on my Mac.

With IOS Pages v2.0 and v2.1, Apple introduced a new document format that is incompatible with prior Pages versions on IOS or OS X Pages ’09. Opening older documents with these recent versions of Pages will permanently prevent the document from opening in earlier versions of Pages on IOS or OS X.
Nice of Apple to warn people.
There is no undo of an iTunes application update, short of forcing iTunes to restore IOS v6 back on that iPad 2. Even if you did that, you won't find the IOS Pages v1.7.2 in the iTunes store now.
IOS Pages v2+ will allow you to export content in Word .docx format. You do this by first tapping the box with an up-arrow in it (next to the left-most +). A menu will slide up — choose Send a Copy. Select a document icon. Pick Mail, and then Word. Your Pages v2.1 document will now be converted to Word .docx, and attached to an email body. Fill in the to address and send.

  • Pages tells me I need to upgrade to 5.0 to open documents from iCloud.  When I go to the mac app store it says pages 5.0 is installed, but Pages says it's running 4.3.  I just want to open documents on my mac that were created on my iPad.

Pages tells me I need to upgrade to 5.0 to open documents from iCloud, but the mac app store says its already installed and won't let me upgrade.  when I check the version of pages I am running it says 4.3.  I just want to be able to open documents on my mac that were created on my iPad.  How can i get Pages 5.0?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You already have got Pages 5.0, but you still have got Pages 4.3, so Pages 4.3 is being opened instead of the newest version, being this the reason why you get a message telling you to update Pages to the most recent version.
If you don't need the old version, open a Finder window, choose Applications in the sidebar and delete the old Pages icon or move it to an external drive. I don't recommend you to do this, as users are complaining about the lack of features of the new version.
Instead, what you can do is to put the new Pages icon in the Dock by dragging it from the Finder window to the Dock, so you can open the new Pages version from the Dock and you can open all your documents with it after opening the application

  • It appears that I can not share documents between my iMacs and mac air without first opening document in an IOS device.  Is this correct?  If so then iCloud for me is a giant step backward especially since idisk will be discontinued next year.

It appears that I cannot share documents between my iMacs and and Mac air using icloud without first opening document in and IOS device.  Is this true.  If so, then icould is petty much worthless for me, especially since idisk will be discontinued next year.

You are correct.  However, a document can not be opened by another computer unless the document has first been open by an iDevice.
iwork on iOS uses different file formats ( *.tef ) then iwork09 on Mac ( *.key , *. number , *.page ).
Uploaded documents to icloud.com must first be updated to the *.tef format and then re-written to the cloud system. The online service behind the iwork web-app does the re-conversion to Mac formats, pdf or Microsoft office. All that is happening "in the cloud", not on your Mac as he misses the engine to do the transcoding from the *.tef to the other formats. Mac simply does not know what *.tef is.

  • Opening document in pages on ipad with icloud

I get message saying "Open Document This document may look different on your iOS device than on your Mac.  Use Open Copy if you want to preserve the original."  Then has two options:  Open Copy or Open.  How should I proceed.  I thought I could just drag my document into the iCloud and then edit from either one of my computers or one of my iOS devices and the change would take place on all devices?  This seems to me that Im going to have duplicates taking up cloud space and one may be updated and the other not?  Am I correct?  Thank you for any help.  To me its clear as mud.  Oh yeah I'm using an iMac, MacBook Pro with Lion 10.7.4 on each and an iPad 3

The document is automatically saved to iCloud, but has no name. Pages save it automatically and call it "empty".
If you create a new document again and save it, it is called "empty 1" and such will be in the next emty 2 ... etc.
I can not rename the document and name it and call it what I want.

My files in numbers spreadsheet disappeared from my mac and can´t be found in iCloud

I have similar problem. I updated Numbers. I cannnot see actual documents in iPhone and open it in iCloud. I can find them only in iPad.

  • My mini Mac with a i5 processor is extremely slow to open documents and programs. Is there a solution to this??

Anyone can asset me please. My mini Mac is a 2.3 GHZ i5 Core. 8 GB Ram 13333 MHz with OS 10.7.5.
Pretty much since day one this computer is very..extremely slow to respond to any command. Opening documents or programs the system spin for ever.
Any idea what could be causing this???  I was told that to many pictures slow down the system, I have only 700 pic on file

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return  three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
    12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
    14. This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.
