Opening documents in separate (non-tabbed) windows
sorry about this simplistic question, but, how can documents be opened into their own separate window panes? Currently I have to drag each tabbed window out into empty space to establish a newly opened document in a separate window....can such a workflow be set as a default open file procedure?

You might try resetting your prefs by launching Photoshop with command-option-shift pressed while you open PS. Confirm that you'd like your prefs reset. Then adjust them as Steve described (you might check off "enable floating doc window docking" for good measure) and see if this helps. If you're concerned about losing any vital prefs (not color setting, not actions, not brushes), you can Google where the pref files reside and make a duplicate before resetting them.
I just revisited this and I'll bet he's dragging them into the application frame directly, as opposed to the app icon. In this case, I think he's SOL. And it seems to me he wants his cake for eating. Application frame but separate windows? Sheesh.

PCs with Internet Explorer are effectively opening Word within the browser using a Windows-only technology called OLE.
There is a Word plugin but it's not a full featured Word document viewer.
There are a couple of things that can be done to make life easier though. The simplest thing is that you can double click the icon in the Safari downloads window to launch the file, so there's no need to hunt down the file on your Desktop.
Another more technical thing that can be done is to attach a Folder Action to your Desktop to instruct the Finder to automatically launch Word files as they are created there. I use the same idea to launch certain files from a work website. -
Opening file in a new tab/window
Hi,
I have a form (HTML added through a widget) and a number of images on one page. I want each image to be a link to a file, where the images will be seen full quality. however, doing this takes visitors away from the page instead of opening a new tab/window - then clicking back means that the form data is lost - i.e. tickboxes are no longer ticked, etc.
I cannot use the photo viewing page included in iWeb, as the pictures will then overlap with my form because the enlarged images are loaded on the same page.
I hope this makes sense, and if anyone could help with opening files in new tab/window it would be great, or a way of opening a photo viewing platform in a separate tab/window directly from a click of one of the photos. (this is not mine) where the photo viewing "platform" is IDEAL. I would love something just like this if someone could advise.
i do not want the photos to link to an external page (which can be opened in a new window) as it would mean me creating separate pages for each picture, and linking them all... no way!
Also, it would obviously be preferable to be quick to set up, but also to change. I would need to have multiple pages of many photos, each with the viewing facilities so it could not take a long time to set up. I may also need to add/delete some photos, so if all the linking work was done automatically it would be fantastic.

Firefox 4 opens mail in a non-resizable window on clicking a mail ID of my 1and1webmail list
My company has provided me a mail account in 1and1 web mail. Whenever I click a mail in the list for display, the mail is opened in a non-re-sizable fixed window that has only a close option. This does not happen for other websites. This problem doesn't appear in IE9 also.
My Os is Win 7 starter and the Firefox version is 4. I could not update to 5, as it finds my "Awesome Screenshot" add-on incompatible that I need for my work.I want to add that there are no related re-sizable options in in my mail account. If I click any link in the non-re-sizable window mail, that link is opened in a tab as set in Firefox options.

when ever I open a doc with word it make a history for undo and redo action file in the same dir
with bootcamp you only have read not write access to the osx partition so it would fail to be able to create that file
but if you can get word or whatever program you use to open the file not to place a temp file in the same dir
or use a program which did not make any type of temp file or used a program where the temp file would be located elsewhere where you decide it would work file -
Launching SAP WinGUI transaction in separate non-browser window
Is there a way to launch a SAP GUI transaction in a SAP Win Gui window? That is, without having the browser parent window around it.
Oh I almost forgot. When launching this way the user will be prompted to "Open or Save" the file. Even if the user unchecks the "Always check for this file..." the prompt will still appear. The way to remove the prompt is to go to Win Explorer, Tools, Folder Options. On the Folder Options window choose the File Types tab. In the Registered file types window find the SAP - SAP GUI Shortcut file and click Advanced. On the Edit File Type window uncheck the Confirm open after download checkbox. Click OK as needed to return to Win explorer. The user must have admin rights to do this or a reg edit can be made using SMS. I am not aware of the reg key needed but I can find that out if it is needed.

I do NOT like when I click "Find" that it opens in a separate pop-up window. I liked it being at the bottom left of the page and staying there. It's irksome the way it is. Would you please put it back on the bottom left so it will stay open. It is so much easier.
Also, it is a little irksome that Firefox automatically uploaded the new 9.0 version. I was purposefully not uploading it. I thought it was loading updates to 8.0. You need to add more detail and have a way to give us an option not to update when the pop-up appears.The Find bar is still at the bottom of the browser window, just above the Add-on Bar if you have it set to appear. No change with it in Firefox 9.0.

Business Package 'open in separate headerless portal window' shows masthead
We have implemented ESS and MSS 1.41 and SRM 7.0 in our development portal.
When an iView with the property 'open in a separate headerless portal window' is opened, it opens in a separate window but with the masthead and TLN bar.
I have checked the iView properties and they are set correctly.
What causes the iView to show the masthead and TLN even when the property states headerless portal window.

I need to add some streaming video to my web site. I am able to do all what I need except I need the streaming video to open in a separate qt player window. Not the window I choose the video from.

I use solutiom manager to support project documentation.
When I open document for editing it is opened in the same window (right side). And if doc type is word, it is hard to work because only part of window is used for text.
If I attach document in customizing tab it is opened for edeting in separate window! It is very comfortable.
Could I make solution manger open docs in separate windows from project docs tab?

I use google mail for work and personal mail. When using my Mac, I click on a document (PDF, Excel, etc) in an email message and it opens a preview of that document in a new tab.
On my Windows PC, I do the same thing and it just sits there. I have checked the pop-up blocker and some of the settings but can't figure out why it works in one and not in another.

How set up multiple homepages to open in a separate window (not a tab) when desired...
I would like to setup and be able to click on a Firefox profile (I assume profile) or pass parameters to the firefox.exe and have firefox open about 6 separate windows (not tabs) set to different home pages.
If I use the Pipe Symbol in Options, it will open separate tabs but also ause the probelm below which I also would like to solve.
A lot of times I also want to run another instance of firefox by clicking on the Firefox icon in my quick launch tray and DO NOT want it to open up all of these sites again.
How is this best achieved?
In the past I just opened up each site individually in its own window.

PeterYou can create multiple shortcuts on the desktop and include the URL to the command line and use the -new-window switch to specify a new window.<br />
You need to use the -new-window switch for each URL (-new-window URL1 -new-window URL2).<br />
If the command line gets to long then you need to use a CMD file to store the full command line (start "" firefox.exe -new-window etc.).

Bug Report: Enabling Application Frame forces all open documents into tabs
Steps to reproduce the problem:
Set Preferences -> Interface -> "Open Documents as Tabs" to OFF
Open a bunch of documents. Observe that they are separate floating windows, which is good
Choose Window -> "Application Frame" which will turn the default Application Frame off
Choose Window -> "Application Frame" which will re-enable the Application Frame and force all of your open docs into tabs, which is undesired!

Installed TWAIN devices: NONEFound another option which is helpful for those trying to rid themselves of tabs:
Preferences -> Interface -> Uncheck "Enable Floating Document Window Docking"
This will prevent you from accidentally dragging a document near the top of the Aplication Frame and having it sucked into a tab.
That said, I think it is still a problem to have all documents brought into tabs when turning on Window -> Application Frame when all of the available "don't use tabs" options are chosen.
