Opening documents using DocLink results in ReadOnly Mode

We are using harmon.ie plugin with Outlook to store emails and documents to a Sharepoint library.
Users are experiencing an issue with Harmon.ie when opening an office document using persistent URLs(Document Link). The document opens
in the client application in read only mode and there is not an option to open in edit mode. But the same document can be open in edit mode when it opens directly from document library. Have you seen this behavior?

We have faced the same issue, where people trying to sign documents electronically have to open files in Read-Only mode in order to do so. Opening from DocLink always opens read-only, and even then, the document was complaining that it needed to be in
Read-only mode to allow signatures, even if it was. This had been reported to Microsoft. From what I can recall, users running Windows 8/IE11 were not affected by this issue. I'll get more info and will get back on this thread.

  • Can't open document using Word or Text Edit

I couldn't find a specific topic so I'm posting this here. I just got a new white macbook and transferred some word documents to it. I was out of town and realized I'd forgotten to load the Word program, so I opened a couple of documents using Text Edit and saved them as new documents. One document opened without issue, but the other document won't open with either Text Edit or MS Word 2004. When I try to open it in Word the message states it cannot be opened and may or may not be a valid word document. When I try to open in TextEdit the message states that the document is not in the right format. Please help -- I really don't want to have to re-create the document as it is about 12 pages!
    Thanks, Sandy

There are 2 unusual options in File, Open in the Windows version of Word (sorry, I'm on a Mac without Word). One is something like Recover Text From Any Format, and the other is Open and Repair. One I think is on a drop down menu in the Open screen. I'm not sure if these are available on the Mac version, but it's worth a try! Also: do you have all the proper converters set up? I have Word 2004 for Mac running on one machine, a legal copy, and I was able to do updates and even get a free conversion program that actually backward converts Word 2007 for Windows and Word 2008 for Mac files down to Word for Mac 2004. It's worked quite will. I support Word on Macs and Windows at work and have used that conversion utility to great advantage when we had users call with Word docs that wouldn't open. Good luck!

  • Open document using QAWS Xcelcius.

    Hi All,
The OpenDocument link is for an object with QAAWS and Xcelsius and when we hit on the link it pops out with error "The session has been logged off or has expired. (FWM 01002) ".
The work aroud is that we need to login to infoview first and then open the link it works fine.
We are using Open doc SSO using ( Vintela SSO )in XI3.1which is working fine.
When i gone through the knowledge base i could see that there is a know issue with Xcelsius using SSO and it got resloved in SP2 so will this gonig to effect my open document link.
    Thanks for understanding..

I've had opendocument SSO working fine with vintela since 3.1, but I haven't tested every scenario. It could be a bug, I'll look up the adapt tomorrow to see the details.
As far as I knew this function was working fine for quite a few of our customers. I set it up my self for several.
EDIT: I looked at the adapt and apparently is was an xcelsius bug only not actually with opendocument. It is set to be fixed in SP2 and another patch for xcelsius clients only

  • Flash CC won't let me switch between open documents using command and tilde key ( ~ )

In all previous versions of Flash, and most other Adobe software, you could change the active document using command and tilde key ( ~ ) on a Mac. However Flash CC won't let me do this. Is there a bug, or something I need to set up to get it to work? Or is this possibly just expected behavior in the new version of Flash?

I'm on a 2012 desktop with OS X 10.8.4 using a bluetooth keyboard. Cmd + ~ works with all other Adobe programs I have installed including Flash CS5.5.

  • Opening Document's using Document ID (DocIdRedir.aspx) results in Read-Only mode

    Hi,
The document doesn't have Edit option when it opens through the DocIdRedir.aspx?DocId.
Tried below below registry update solution and it doesn't provide the checkin/checkout options.
do we have any other option/solution to enable the edit button with checkin/checkout?
Request you please provide the solution.
    Registry update Solution:
Add the following entry into the users registry.
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Common\Internet]  "OpenDocumentsReadWriteWhileBrowsing"=dword:00000001
For a large number of users this would need to be done via Group Policy of course.
    Thanks,
    Neerender

    Hi  Neerender ,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to open document in edit mode with checkin/checkout through the DocIdRedir.aspx?DocId.
For my test, if I configure my SharePoint 2010 to open office documents using the client application, when I open document through the DocIdRedir.aspx?DocId, the document  will be downloaded , then opened
by the client application. So I can open it in edit mode.
If I configure my SharePoint 2010 to open office documents in the browser, when I open document through the DocIdRedir.aspx?DocId, the document will be opened in the office web apps and I can edit it by clicking
    Edit in Brower.

  • When starting a word document from "Protected view" it is in readonly mode. Why does it not set to editable?

I am trying to open a document from internet and wants to do it editable for doing some changes in it. In Microsoft Word i get the "Protected view" and pushes the "Enable editing" button. It works fine in IE9 but doing the same in firefox makes the document still in readonly mode. I have an addin that saves it back to the server where i have opened it. Because the file is in readonly mode i cannot save it back to server. Why is the document not set to editable mode?

That is for protection. Firefox saves files that are past to an external program in the temp folder (%temp%) and files in that folder may get removed (deleted) after you close that external program causing dataloss if you made changes. Firefox saves the file as read-only to prevent that. You will have to save the file under a different name (possibly in a different location) using "Save as" if you want to make changes to a file.

  • Issue with Opening Sharepoint document using editDocumentWithProgID2

    HI,
We have a scenario where we dynamically generate a excel(xls) document, save it to document library and open it in edit mode.
To open the document in edit mode, we are using 'editDocumentWithProgID2' javascript function. But we are facing an issue here.
For some documents it is opening up in edit mode but for some 'open-save' dialogue box is poping up.
PLease, let us know how can we solve this issue.

    Anusha
You have mentioned in your post that your are opening document in Edit mode, but i doubt the above code open the doc in Read mode. Can you try the below code once.
    Dim strDocScript As String = "return editDocumentWithProgID2('" + documentPath + "', '', 'SharePoint.OpenDocuments', '1','<Replace here with your siteUrl>', '0');"
    lnkDocumentGen.Attributes.Add("onClick", strDocScript)
'1' means that the document is being opened in Edit mode and '0' means read mode.

  • Problem with Open document SSO using websphere.

    Hi All,
    I have a issue,
We configured AD SSO using websphere and its working fine but when we try to login to the open document SSO using websphere it prompting for login credentials.
Is there any steps needed for configure open document SSO using websphere.
We made all the changes in web.xml file for the Open Document ,same as in Infoview web.xml file.
When we launch the Open Document, it prompts for the login screen, we get username and passwd fields we do not get the authentication drop down,if we give the AD credentials , we get "Enterprise Authentication error" .We feel the default authentication mode is taken as "Enterprise".
We have made changes in the web.xml for open document to have authentication.dafault as "secWinAD", also ,for test purpose we made the authentication. visible as "true" but the changes were not taken, we have redeployed the war files.
Any one please help on this.
    Environment Details-
    BOBJ XI R3.1 SP2
    Web Sphere 6.1.0.25  .
    Thank you in advance.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Bill.

The same settings in the infoviewapp web.xml must be applied on the opendocument web.xml. Also you must be on XI 3.1 FP1 or higher. There is currently an Edge issue being investigated.

  • Strange Behaviour when opening pdf files using search results

    Hi
I have observed inconsistencies between opening a pdf file when in the document library itself (it opens in a browser - good).
However, when I click on a the same file in my search results having used Search and the Search Centre it opens in the adobe reader.  I would rather it opened in a browser rather than the adobe reader.
The only difference I can see is that when opening from a document library the url ends in ".pdf", whereas when opening from the search results the url ends in ".pdf#search=<search string>.
    Anybody any ideas ?

    Nigel Price NJPEnterprises

    Hi Nigel,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to open pdf from search result in browser.
Firstly , permissive Browser File Handing in Central Administration, you can refer to the link:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/wiki/contents/articles/18858.sharepoint-2013-how-to-view-pdf-files-in-browsers.aspx
Whether you are using OWA for SharePoint 2013. If Office Web Apps is not used for Search results of PDFs, the opening of PDFs in the browser passes the search terms into Adobe. So, if you don’t use OWA, please configure it for SharePoint 2013.
    More information, please refer to:

    I hope this helps.

  • Open document issue using Xcelsius WIH 00013

    All,
I have Open Document that behaves correctly when I copy and paste it into address bar of a browser. It also works fine when I try to connect from one Webi report to another (so far so good). But when I use the link in Xcelsius, via a URL component, I get the following message:
Invalid Session: Please close your browser and logon again. (WIH 00013)
Previous posts on forumtopics.com suggests that this is a Tomcat time out issue. However, other open document calls from other Xcelsius dashboards with open document work without issue. Has anyone seen this before? I have included the hyperlink text. Please note long prompt text is courtesy of a BEx query in BW .
