Opening downloaded files on a Mac with Acrobat 11.0

I'm on a Mac Pro running OS 10.8.2.  Since downloading and installing Acrobat Pro 11.0, I can not open any PDF files downloaded from the internet.  I can still open (with Acrobat 11.0) PDF files downloaded previously with Acrobate Pro 9.5.  I get the error message -"There was an error opening this document. There was a problem reading this document (14)."

  • Can't open pdf files in Windows 8 with Acrobat XI

    I have windows 8, and Mozilla Thunderbird email client.  When attempting to open PDFs I get this message "Adobe Reader could not open 'Wiring Invoice 409343281 Dated 04_05_2013-2.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly decoded)."  I have tried documents from numerous different sources, all with the same result.  I have uninstalled, reinstalled, repaired, restarted, etc.  I did not have this issue with XP and Acrobat reader X.   HELP!!  I cannot print invoices until this is corrected....thanks!

    Hi,
    Are you try to open PDF file attachments from Mozilla Thunderbird.?
    Could you try to save the PDF file locally and then try to open the PDF file?
    Or try downloading sample PDF from here http://www.samplepdf.com/sample.pdf and open it in Adobe Reader.
    Thanks

    It should unzip if you double-cick.
    What are you seeing happen when you do that?
    Select a .zip file in the Finder and Get Info (cmd-i). What is set for it to Open With. It should be Archive Utility.

    Delete a possible user.js file and numbered prefs-##.js files and rename (or delete) the prefs.js file to reset all prefs to the default value including prefs set via user.js and prefs that are no longer supported in the current Firefox release.
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Preferences_not_saved
    Create a new profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problem.
    See "Creating a profile":
    *https://support.mozilla.org/kb/profile-manager-create-and-remove-firefox-profiles
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Standard_diagnostic_-_Firefox#Profile_issues
    If the new profile works then you can transfer files from a previously used profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem

  • Trouble Opening Downloaded Files

    My wife has a Mac Book using OS X v10.4 (which is why I'm here) with a 1,83 GHz intel core duo. The problem is that she is unable to open downloaded files. The software updater has a long list of suggestions and after she downloads the files (the new java release 8) the installation process starts and hen abruptly quits. I tried to solve that problem by re-downloading release 7 but the same error occurred (the release 7.pkg file was not in the library but the 5 and 6 pkg files were).
    And... she recently purchased Office 2008 for Mac and that won't load either. Coincidence? Or some related problems? She is already on her second hard drive and I am hoping that isn't the problem.
    Help!! Thanks in advance for the help.

    Hi Escubed, and a warm welcome to the forums!
    Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Tiger Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
    Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
    5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
    Then Safe Boot , (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it finishes.
    The usual reason why updates fail or mess things up, or things don't load/run, is if Permissions are not fixed before & after every update, with a reboot... you may get a partial update when the installer finds it doesn't have Permissions to change one obscure little part of the OS, leaving you with a mix of OS versions.
    Some people get away without Repairing Permissions for years, some for only days.
    If Permissions are wrong before applying an update, you could get mixed OS versions, if Directory is the slightest messed up, who knows!
    If many Permission are repaired, or any Directory errors are found, you may need to re-apply some the latest/biggest updates again, or even do an A&I if you have enough free disk space.

    Repair Permissions before & after re-install, then reboot again each time.
    If all the above fails, then it appears to be time for a relatively painless Archive & Install, which gives you a new/old OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space and no Disk corruption, and is relatively quick & painless...

    Just be sure to select Preserve Users & Settings.

    That way I can wait a week or so, check the forums for potential problems, and get Permissions & such in order before installing.

Need help very badly since the hard drive I use is the only back up I have for my very old pics. Thank you...

    Backup with cloning software your HD to have an exact copy of it as it is.

  • Please advice on adding 3D-animation files into a PDF with Acrobat Pro DC.

    Hello,
    Where is the button animation in Acrobat Pro DC?
    Can you give me advice on adding 3D-animation files into a PDF with Acrobat Pro DC.
    I have Acrobat PRO DC .
    Thank you.

    Hi George,
    I just tried adding the files as attachments; however I didn't like doing that because it increased the file size of my PDF document quite a bit.
    I'm not sure if you're familiar with the "Insert Object" command in MS Word, but I want to do the same thing in my PDF document...but the key is, anyone must to be able to open the embedded file from any location.
    I created an MS Word document with several embedded objects.  I was later asked to PDF the Word document, but since embedded MS Word objects do not migrate to the PDF, I am now trying to embed the same files I embedded into my Word document into my PDF document over top of the icon image.  The file types I'm trying to embed include MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Adobe PDF.  Does this make more sense?  I want to create a hyperlink over top the icon image that was PDF'd from the MS Word document which allows any user to click on the link and open the separate file.

  • How to open downloaded files?

    Just picked up a Nokia lumia 822 and was wondering how to open downloaded files?  Through IE it appears i can only stream a media file and now download it. Through UC Browser it says its downloaded but seems to only let me stream it.  I want to download a song and add it to my music library, is that even possible?  Are there any 3rd party file manager apps?

    The easiest way to browse your phone is to connect it to a pc with a usb cable. The phone then becomes like a usb drive and you can then drag and drop your media files as required.

    i want to open downloaded file in my report.
    In my report we have provided two option.
    one is to download file and
    second one is to open file after download .
    For the downloading i am using gui_donwload function module  but i don't know how to do  second option.
    Thanks,
    Jack

    Hi.
    If you want to open it in notepad for example you can do like this:
    CALL FUNCTION 'GUI_EXEC'
      EXPORTING
         command = 'NOTEPAD'
         parameter = 'C:ptdebug.txt'
    * IMPORTING
    *    RETURNCODE = .
    Or if you want to use classes instead you can do like this:
    CALL METHOD cl_gui_frontend_services=>execute
      EXPORTING
        document               = 'C:ptdebug.txt'
        operation              = 'OPEN'
      EXCEPTIONS
        cntl_error             = 1
        error_no_gui           = 2
        bad_parameter          = 3
        file_not_found         = 4
        path_not_found         = 5
        file_extension_unknown = 6
        error_execute_failed   = 7
        synchronous_failed     = 8
        not_supported_by_gui   = 9
        OTHERS                 = 10.

  • Unable to open downloaded files or programs

    I have read all the applicable "troubleshooting" articles, re-set Firefox to the defaults, deleted the cache, etc. Have not been able to open any downloaded file from any source (including the newest Java and Firefox 17.0) and cannot find the downloaded file again except from the Firefox tools/download window. Even when I see the file in the download window, neither the icon nor the filename is active for double-clicking. Right-clicking shows the "open" and "open folder" options but they are greyed out.

    If "Open" and "Open Containing Folder" in the right-click context menu in the Download Manager window are grayed then that means that the file is no longer in the original download location and they may have been removed by Anti-virus or cleanup software.
    It is possible that your anti-virus software is corrupting the downloaded files or otherwise interfering with downloading files by Firefox.
    See "Disable virus scanning in Firefox preferences - Windows"

  • How do I open .exe files on my mac?

    How do I open .exe files on my mac? I've downloaded a bunch of programs but they are all in .exe format. Do I need a program to extract these files?

    Ok thanks. So how do you install programs that you download from the internet? I've downloaded some programs and when I try to install them it doesn't work.
    First of all, you need to download things that are built to run on OS X - there is no way to install any Windows program in OS X.  You need windows to run Windows programs.
    Most downloadable programs for OS X will be distributed in a Disc Image file - *.dmg  You would double click one to open it.  Then, often it is as simple as drag the uncompressed folder to your Applications Folder.  Sometimes there may be an installer to run.  Once installed, you can eject the mounted dmg (drag it to the trash) and either keep is in case you ever need to reinstall, or delete it.

  • I can't open excel file on a mac!

    Hey All,
    I have been working on an excel file using both a mac and a pc. However, today I can't seem to open the file on my macbook (snowleopard) but I CAN open it on a PC. What is going on? I need to be able to open the file on my mac and a pc. At first I thought it was because I am running out a memory on my mac, however I tried opening the file on a desktop mac with a lot of memory, but the same thing seems to happen. Does anyone have any ideas what is going on????

    Yes, use the SL retail disc; hold down the C key on start up (wait for the chime if it's a bluetooth keyboard) until the Apple logo appears.
    OK the language page, then ignore the installer and go to the menu bar, Utilities menu > Disk Utility.
    Booted from the DVD you will now be able to use the 'Repair Disk' button to repair the HD.
    Run 'Repair Disk' again after repairs have been reported, until the green message "The Volume Macintosh HD appears to be OK" appears.
    Then Quit DU, quit the installer and restart from Macintosh HD.
    There should be no loss of data, but you should always have a backup of that anyway.
    If a message appears saying DU can't repair the drive, repost here for further instructions.

  • Opening ITHMB files on my mac

    Why cant i open ithmb files on my mac? I have recently changed from PC to mac...thought ithmb was an apple format?

    Hi attekiller,
    Terminal seemed to work, but when i told it to execute, it said that I did not have the permission to do so, even though I am the root administrator. I selected the bat file and went file> get info to change the permission, but it said i could only read and write, not execute it. Does this mean that I cannot use terminal to open this?
    Terminal refuses to execute the file as a precaution, since it can not execute the instructions included in the file.
    Read+Write only means that you can 'edit' the text file, but Terminal (and OSX) have no way to execute the Windows System Calls in it.
    I have Crossover lying around since the LameDuck day but haven't had the time to 'play' with it.
    As said you have to execute the batch file while you are in Crossover Windows, so maybe when you import/copy the .bat file into Crossover when running it should enable you to run the file (using the Windows Command Prompt for example).
    Try the Crossover Support Forums or Library http://www.codeweavers.com/support/ for help on how-to do this.
