Opening Dreamweaver 8 files in MX?

I recently designed a basic html site for a friend using
Studio 8. Unfortunately all my friend has is Dreamweaver MX. When
she opens the files, all she get is blank page. I tried this at
work in Dreamweaver MX 2004 and get the same results. Even in just
code view, there is nothing there. I would think if it's just basic
html, any editor should be able to open the file. Am I missing
something here, or is Adobe/Macromedia forcing everyone's hand to
upgrade?

Interesting. BTW, I'm on a Mac at home and work, as is my
friend I did the site for. After re-downloading that particular
page 3 times now, Dreamweaver MX 2004 seems happy with it now! it
was probably a transfer issue, although why it's taken several
attempts to get it to work is beyond me.
Now to see if my friend is still experiencing this issue (I
hadn't checked with her in a few days while I tried this myself.
Thanks for your feedback and time, I appreciate it.

You just see a blank page? Wait - you say code view is blank,
too? Then -
there is something wrong with the file itself - what do you
see when you
open it in Notepad?

  • Opening dreamweaver files in iweb

I just got an apple computer and it is my first time using one. I had built a website in dreamweaver CS3 on my PC and now I would like to transfer it to iweb and use that. But I can't seem to open my dreamweaver files in iweb. I was told they were compatible. I know it is probably something really simple but I would appreciate the help.

The answer is a really simple one and that is you can't open Dreamweaver files in iWeb. iWeb is not an html editor in the same way that Dreamweaver is.
I don't know who told you the two were compatible, but they gave you the wrong info.
You can still run Dreamweaver on a Mac, but you'd have to stump up the cash to buy the Mac version rather than the PC version and it costs.
Why would you want to use iWeb when you have used Dreamweaver?

  • Error message when I open Dreamweaver files

    Hi,
I have troubled of Dreamweaver CS3 and hope some one can help
me. When I open a file from one of my site which is connecting to
database, I got error message that I have to close the Dreamweaver.
It doesn't tell much what exactly wrong at the error message. These
sites were working fine before. Any idea why this happen and how
    can I fix it?
    Thank in advance!
    Kenneth

Not without a little more information. What server model are
    you using?
What OS do you run? Can you provide connection code and
    recordset code?
Lastly, what version of Dreamweaver did you create your pages
    in? If it was
8, was it updated to 8.02?

  • Can you open Dreamweaver files created in CS5 in CS4?

Does anyone know if it is possible to backsave a CS5 Dreamweaver file to be compatible with CS4???
    Any help is much appreciated!

    No conversion is required.
Dreamweaver creates HTML and CSS files which are plain text (readable by humans) and can even be opened in a text editor.
There is no proprietary code or file format like there is in Microsoft Word.

  • Can Not Open ASPX Files In Dreamweaver CC ?

I just upgraded from Dreamweaver CS6 to Dreamweaver CC and now can no longer double click to open ASPX files.
Is this something that was removed from Dreamweaver CC?
Or, is there something I need to install or edit in order for it to work again?
I tried adding it to the Extensions.txt file, but doesn't seem to be working unless I entered it into incorrectly.

Any help or direction would be greatly appreciated.

You can apply the default file association in windows. Follow http://windows.microsoft.com/en-in/windows-vista/change-which-programs-windows-uses-by-def ault
Also, you can try adding it in DW preferences.
    1) Go to Preferences < File Types/Editors.
    2) Click on the "+" icon on left Column and add the extension you need.
    3)  Click on the "+" icon on right column and add the Editor as Dreamweaver. Locate the Dreamweaver.exe file installed at "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CC".
    4) Click on Make Primary Button and Click OK.
    5) Close DW and re-launch.
    I hope this helps

  • Error message: "Dreamweaver can't open .jpg files"

    I'm using DW 8, and I have installed the 8.0.2 update. I'm
having trouble inserting certain JPG images into a site. I get an
error message pop-up that states "Dreamweaver can't open .jpg
files". It will allow me to insert some jpg files, but not all of
them. I've tried drag & drop and going through the Insert menu.
The files are not large at all. Doesn't appear to be any problem
with png's or gif's. It's incredibly frustrating. Anyone have any
    suggestions? TIA.

    > why was i taught that all my web images need
    > to be in 72dpi if it doesn't really matter?
most people suggest 72 because it was an old standard with
    the early
macintosh DTP programs. For web use it's easier to
    standardize on it because
when you make an image, you have to put ~some~ number in the
    resolution box
and it might as well be 72 as any other number. It simplifies
    moving image
files around in different applications if they are all the
    same resolution.
For display in a browser, these will all have the same file
    size and display
    size in a web page:
    600x600 pixels at 1dpi
    600x600 pixels at 72dpi
    600x600 pixels at 6000dpi
It's when they are used in other applications or when a
    direct url like
/photos/1.jpg is printed out that they may display in the
    resolution, not
    the pixel dimension.
I came across a page once where the designer always saved his
    images with a
resolution of 6000 dpi or some other odd number because he
    thought that if
people dragged the image off the page to save it- most of
    them wouldn't be
able to resize it. or some other idiot reason maybe.

  • Dreamweaver wont open any files in Mac OS 10.6.3

I just reinstalled CS4 on my Mac becasue every time I try to open any file, the window panels all blink (refresh) and then nothing happens. The reinstall did not help...nothing has helped.
Even when I go to the "Info" panel for any file and try to do a "Open With" and change it to be CS4...it switches back to Firefox.
Creating a new file in Dreamweaver is fine...I can edit it all day long. However, once I save it and try and reopen...nothing...just those dang panel refreshes.
Has anyone come into this issue and if so, has any idea how to fix this...or even where the issue is? Is it in Dreamweaver, Firefox, Mac OS?
    Any help would be great.
    Thanks!

I have not heard of this problem before.  Have you tried a system permissions repair, and then de-activate your software (Help->Deactivate) and then run the Adobe - Adobe CS4 Clean Script before re-installing?

  • Open iweb files in dreamweaver

Hi! I have read so many forums about this topic. The solution everyone seems to have is to publish your iweb files to a folder and then open index.html through dreamweaver. I can open the file, however, it only displays a code and the file size is only 4kb. I know that my site is way larger than that, so I'm thinking i'm opening it incorrectly or something. So if anyone knows and could give me fool proof step by step "for dummies" directions, that would be awesome!!

iWeb's index.html files don't have any content. Open the other .html files which you find in the sitename folder.

  • Can't open my files in Dreamweaver CS3..

The program opens but I can't open either my local or my remote files. Please help! As soon as I try to open a file, Dreamweaver crashes and i have to close it. I had a brief chance earlier today to update a couple of html pages but then it stopped working again. I have no idea what caused it. Nothing has changed on my computer that I know of. up until, this program has worked excellently for me.
    Please help.

I know this isn't your specific problem but try steps 12 & 4.

  • Dreamweaver CS5 won't open any files from a project

    Hi,
I'm working on a simple website. I work on it from 2 different locations (home and work), and the files are stored on a removable USB disk. The problem is that for some reason Dreamweaver won't open any files made on the other computer. It shows the sitemap, eveything. But when I click on a file, nothing happens.
I've tried a couple of things:
    1. recreate the site in the site manager - still the same problem
    2. remove the preference folder - still the same problem
The only solution is that I have to copy the files to my desktop, recreate the website in the sitemanager and then it works. But only if I copy the files to my desktop, any other location on my HD (not the removable USB disk) simply doesn't work.
Does anybody know why this happens? Or even better, does anybody have a tip of how to workaround this problem?
    thanks!

The D600 was first supported in Camera Raw 7.3 which is only compatible with CS6 and later - not CS5 unfortunately.

    FREE
Download the free Adobe DNG converter, convert all D600 Raw files to DNGs then open the DNGs in CS5

    PAID
    Upgrade to CS6
    Buy Lightroom 5.4
    Buy Photoshop Elements 12

  • I open my dreamweaver files in chrome browser but they do not transmit to my devices?

Edge inspect transmitseverything except my open dreamweaver pages. Why?

    Hi Wallaby,
I suspect you're looking at local files, right? Ones that begin with file:/// ? If so, Inspect isn't showing them because it can't reach into your computer to get at those files, you need to set up a local web server and view those files via that server.
Since I don't know if you're on a Mac or Windows machine, here is a quick google search to get you started: https://www.google.com/search?q=setting+up+a+local+web+server&oq=setting+up+a+local+we&aqs =chrome.1.69i57j0l5.8823j0j8&sourceid=chrome&es_sm=93&ie=UTF-8

  • How Do I Set Dreamweaver F8 Key To Open "Full" Files Panel

    Hi,
When I press the F8 key Dreamweaver displays the Files Panel, but it is the small one that expands from the panel column.  What I want is the full one.
It's really annoying to have to press F8 to expand the Files Panel and then have to mouse to the right corner and click on "Expand to show local and remote sites."
Maybe there is another shortcut key i should be entering?
    Thanks

CwboyInAZ, I created a workspace but I don't know how to save the "full" panel to open when I hit F8 ( or any other shortcut key ).  Just to clarify, the issue is not in opening the files panel within the side column but rather in opening the "Full" view ( ie...the file browser that is shown when you click on the "Expand to show local and remote sites" button on the top right of the "files panel")

How do I open the files that I have moved to creative cloud folder in Dreamweaver on the second computer?

    Hello catherine915,
On your second computer, launch the Creative Cloud desktop app.
Click on the gear icon to display the dropdown menu. Select the option: "Creative Cloud Files"
This will open up the Creative Cloud folder with all the files that you have synced over cloud.
    Hope this helps !

  • Dreamweaver can't open .class files

    Using:
    Dreamweaver CS4 Version 10 Build 4117
on Microsoft Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2
I'm trying to edit Menalto PHP Gallery files via Dreamweaver. Some of Gallery's core php module files use the .class file extension. I want the following extensions to be treated as PHP files in Dreamewaver.
    phtml, class, cpt
I added these extensions to the following files.
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CS4\configuration\DocumentTypes\MMDocumentTypes.xml
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Dreamweaver CS4\configuration\Extensions.txt
    C:\Users\Me\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS4\en_US\Configuration\DocumentTypes\MMDocumentTypes.xml
    C:\Users\Me\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Dreamweaver CS4\en_US\Configuration\Extensions.txt
I set Vista to use Dreamweaver as the default program for opening .class files.
    I have restarted the computer.
I can open up phtml and cpt files just fine.  However, when I try and open .class files, I get the error:
    Dreamweaver can't open .class files
Please choose an HTML, XML, or other compatible file
I used Dreamweaver to create a new file in the Dreamweaver file pannel.  I called the new file test.class and opened it up in notepad.  Dreamweaver is successfully pre-populating the test.class file with the default PHP template.
So Dreamweaver is creating the test.class file using the default PHP template, but it still can't open .class files in Dreamweaver.
I think this might be a reserved extension or something.  Anyone else had a similar problem?

Hey, I gave up myself.  While I still use Dreamweaver for layout (HTML, images) work and for synching my website via SFTP, I don't code PHP in it anymore. Dreamweaver really isn't a PHP development IDE.  So, I do all my PHP work in something called NetBeans.  It is less user friendly but once you set it up... my goodness... is it great for coding PHP.  So Dreamweaver for visual stuff and HTML stuff.  NetBeans for PHP app development.  That's my suggestion.

No, he said that DW gives him an error message: "Can't open
