Opening email links

I can't click on the links in my email and get the link to open on Firefox. When I click, the Firefox start page opens, but the link is lost. Help and Thanks.

Something like this shouldn't require an addon. This should not have been removed from Firefox's feature list. Firefox is losing the war against Chrome, Safari, Opera, and even Internet Explorer.

  • Use Firefox to open email links on GMail

    Hi,
I am running Firefox on Windows 7.
I want to open mailto: links from different applications in Firefox.
I have followed the instructions on the support page :
    https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/change-program-used-open-email-links
If I am on a web page, and I click on a mailto:xxxx link Gmail opens: great !
But if I am in another application (like an ERP application) and I click on a mailto:xxxx link then Outlook opens.
When I go to Default Programs => Associate a file type or a protocol to a program, for the MAILTO protocol there is only Outlook defined and I can not find a way to define another program for that protocol: any idea ?

Sorry, I don't need this addon: it doesn't solve my problem.
I can follow mailto links within Firefox, I want mailto links from an application to lauch Firefox.
At the moment, I have only Outlook as a possible choice in the window: Default Programs => Associate a file type or a protocol !
I have tried changing the registry settings with info gathered from several web page ... with no results.
    Any ideas ?

Hi, Cor-el. The problem isn't setting my default email client --- the problem is that when I click on a "mailto:" link in a web page, any web page, while I'm using the firefox browser, "nothing happens" ....gmail is my default email client and when I click a mailto: link using explorer or any other browser, things work as they should and my gmail opens for me. This only became a problem with firefox when I downloaded version 7 (whatever) not too log ago. Downloading the latest version has not solved the problem.
Any other help would be very much appreciated.

After installing the safari update for windows, outlook is now not opening email hyperlinks.  I have set safari to be my default browser but outlook won't open it when I click a link.  I get the following message: "This operation has been canceled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Hi mcclausky, you may need to manually remove a policy setting from the registry. You also should scan for malware that might have created this problem.
This article lists scanning and cleaning tools other Firefox users have found helpful: [[Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware]].
To check your Windows registry for policy settings that might affect Firefox or other programs, I suggest consulting a Windows forum or Microsoft's forums. For example:

  • Thunderbird email links will no longer open on the Firefox browser. (I have to use another browser to open email links.)

Since a recent update (either for Firefox or Thunderbird, don't remember which), links in my Thunderbird emails will not open in Firefox. I can't even open the Thunderbird "help" link. In desperation, I installed Opera, and the email links work perfectly well. There seems to be some sort of disconnect between Thunderbird and Firefox.

I fixed this myself. You have to ensure that Firefox is the default browser. In the Firefox menu (maybe under Edit if you are running Linux) go to Preferences. Click "Advanced" then in the "General" tab click the button toward the bottom that says "Check now" and Firefox will automatically check if it is the default browser and, if it is not, ask you if you want to make it default. Answer "yes" to this question.

  • Opening Email Links in New Tab

When I click on a link in email, Firefox opens the link in the current tab. My previous version of Firefox opened links in a new tab. Is there a setting to get the previous behaviour?

  • Firefox wont open email links

    Question
Whats the deal with version after version of new firefox and you guys have still not fixed the problem with clicking on email links and nothing happens.

Adware is not a virus. It's simply annoying and intrusive. Virus software is not going to help you stop this new plague on computer users.
Whenever you download an installer it could be wrapped with adware. Check carefully when installing. You have to uncheck to not install the extensions that are added.

  • Firefox won't open email links after update to version 32

I just updated to Firefox 32. When I have FF open but hidden in my Dock on my Mac 10.6.8 it will not open links from my email in Outlook 2011 for Mac. All it will do is unhide Firefox from my dock. Once FF is visible and I click the same link in my email it will open a new tab to that web page. If FF is completely closed and I click a link in an email it will launch FF and open the web page. Only when FF is already open but "Hiding" in my Dock will it not open a new tab with the web page when I click a link from email. I didn't have this problem before the update.
FYI, Firefox is my default browser. I opened Safari and have FF listed as my default browser too. When I did the update I did a brand new download and install.

I use Outlook as my email client on my MAC and since the Firefox update, I cannot open hyperlinks in emails at all. The hyperlinks will open in Safari, but I prefer using Firefox and have it set as my default browzer.
Please fix this. It's truly annoying not to be able to open things!
Or tell me how to fix it. Thanks.

My system is updated. Sorry can't remove my thunderbird config.. 10 email addresses configured there and thousands of mails stored..
I made the grep, but filtered out the Mail and ImapMail folders which would otherwise generate hundreds of matches (I'm a web and ff theme developer so the world "firefox" matches many emails).

  • How can I open email links in emails that are sent to my inbox?

The following message is displayed when I click on a link in an email in my inbox "Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (blockedhttp) isn't associated with any program."

Use the link without "blocked". Remove "blocked" from your e-mail's URL. Use only https:// or http://something.com/dfadfkk...

  • HT1694 Cannot open email links since updating iPad to iOS 7

I cannot open links in emails since I updated my iPad to iOS 7

I was having the same issue with my iPhone 5 iOS 7 and support resolved the issue for me.  Here are the steps from support:
clear your Cookies and History. Go to Settings > Safari > Click on Clear History then Clear Cookies and Data. When that's finished hard reset the iPhone. Make sure your device is not plugged into the computer right now. Press the circle home button and the power button together for about 10 - 15 seconds or until until you see an Apple. Then you can release the buttons and the device will power itself back up. Then try the link from your email.

  • Will not open email links, but will when closed?

Using MS Office 2011 for Mac: Outlook links will not open in Firefox even though Firefox is running in the background - clicking on the link brings Firefox to the forefront, but it doesn't actually do anything.
However, if I quit Firefox then the Outlook link will open? Firefox is my default browser.
    Cheers,
    Alan

    sudo mv /usr/bin/firefox /usr/bin/firefox_old; sudo ln -s /usr/bin/firefox-4.0 /usr/bin/firefox
installed this in terminal and it works now.
