Opening Embeded Files

I have received a pdf file which has an embeded Zip file in it.
Adobe will not allow me to save the zip or open it. Any ideas? Here is the error message I
get:"Acrobat cannot open the file attachment "File name" because your pdf file attachment setting do not allow this file typoe to be opened".
I can't seem to find the file setting to change?
Thanks

    Hi,
have you sent a public link to the other user who needs to make changes?. They wont be able to do this. A Creative Cloud Collaboration would need to be set up for the other user to be able to edit these files. Creative Cloud Help | Collaboration FAQ
    I hope this helps.

  • Still cant open embedded files with Adobe Reader 10.0.1

    Hi!
In the first version of Adobe Reader X you had to disable the Protection Mode in order to open PDF-files on a network drive or that are embedded in a i.e Word document.
I have now upgraded my version to 10.0.1.
The first issue seems to be solved (open files on a network drive). But I still cant open PDF files embedded in another file??
I get the error message: The Program used to create this object is AcroExch. That program is either not installed on your computer or it is not responding. To edit this object, install AcroExch or ensure that any dialog boxes in AcroExch are closed.
And if I try to embedd a PDF-file myself into a document I get the same result.
As soon as I turn of the Protection Mode it works...
Is there a way to keep the PM on and still be able to open documents???
    Regards Daniel

I'm not sure why Adobe hasn't looked into this.  One description elsewhere in the forum seems to suggest that if the computer has had older versions of the reader installed, it will work -- somehow the embedded file needs an older registry key.  I have yet to try installing older versions of reader onto my machine.  This machine has only had reader 10 installed on it.
I tried the recommendation that is given in another thread.  Turn off running reader in protected mode.  The first time I did it, it didn't work.  The second time I unchecked the "use in protected mode" box, I closed and then reopened reader.  Now I can open embedded pdfs in word.

  • Reasons why Reader couldn't open Embedded file?

Installed the Writter in my computer. With file attachment tool, I embedded a file into a pdf file and send this pdf file to a colleague with only Reader installed in the computer. But he couldn't open the embedded file, why?

  • Can I open embedded PDF documents in a PDF file on an iPad or Android?

Not sure if first post got through, the forum required me to change password ...
So I'm trying to open embedded PDF documents in a "parent" PDF document on an iPad.
On a PC the file opens fine.
On an iPad 2 with Adobe's Reader the same file says it's corrupted.
On PDF Pro the file opens, I can see the listing of embedded PDF documents but when I click on them nothing happens.
Is there a way for a PDF file with embedded hyperlinked PDF documents to be displayed on an iPad or Android?

pages on the iOS has access only to the camera roll to embedd pictures , but no external files.
Content from other documents like pdf can be copied and pasted by using Adobe Reader for iOS or the iBooks.app, open the pdf , copy text , then go to pages.app and paste text into the document there.

  • Cannot open embedded Adobe PDF files in Safari 5.1

I am disgusted to find that Apple has removed Safari's ability to open embedded PDF files in Safari 5.1. This is a huge mistake by Apple, and the only work around from Adobe was to use a different browser.
Get on the ball, Apple!!! Fix your MISTAKES!!!

Ah...this is an Adobe issue, not Apple.

  • How to Open PDF Files Embedded in an Excel File

This is a solution for Mac users who need to open .PDF files that are embedded inside an Excel file created in Office for Windows.
I hope this solution works for other file format combinations. I am doing some experimentation to find out and will repost if I have new learnings.
    Problem:
    - Colleague sends me a .XLS which has an embedded .PDF on one sheet
    - Office: Mac 2011 will not open the .PDF because of lack of OLE support
    Solution:
    - Copy the .XLS file to a new file
    - Rename the file from <filename.xls> to <filename.zip>
    - Open the .ZIP with Archive Utility
    - Browse into the resulting "decompressed" folder to filename > xl > embeddings
    - Find the file of interest, named something like <oleObject2.bin>
    - Rename to <oleObject.pdf>
    VOILA!
The PDF is recovered in its fully glory.

    Hi Ram,
Following information might help you to resolve the issue.
After logging into Desktop Intelligence, you may be presented with a message stating:
u201CYou have received 1 document from users"
Examining the Inbox from within the Desktop Intelligence client shows no objects visible in your Inbox.
The object in your Inbox is in a format other than Desktop Intelligence format such as, PDF, XLS or other format. Therefore the object is not recognized by the Desktop Intelligence client inbox browser.
Log in to Info View or the Central Management Console, browse to your Inbox and verify the file name and format that has been sent to your Inbox. The object may be saved, copied, moved or deleted as necessary.

  • Issue opening .AI file with linked/embedded images in Illustrator 6

Received an Illustrator 16.x ai file with 6 Linked\embedded images. Opening in Illustrator 16.0.3 2 images are missing, but opening in Illustrator 15.1 opens them correctly. Illustrator 16.0.3 has warning "Could not find linked file “filename.png”. Choose replace to select another file or Ignore to leave the link unchanged". Illustrator 15.1 has warning "The file “filename.ai” was created by a newer version of Illustrator. Would you like to import this file? Some data loss may occur.". When I open in Photoshop 12.1 and select Images only 4 images show. The two that are missing in ai. are not showing in Photoshop Images option tab, but are in Photoshop when I open the file using pages option tab. Any idea what is happening here and why Illustrator 15.1 opens fine, but Illustrator 16.0.3 cannot?
    Thanks,  Dale

Illustrator CS5 opens the PDF part of the file. Images are always embedded in that part, but you might not be able to edit all objects in it.
Illustrator CS6 will access the AI part of the file, where linked images are not embedded. You should ask for the images in order to edit the file.

  • Cannot open embedded pdf files with Adobe Reader X

When trying to open pdf files embedded as an object within MS Word or Excel (Office 2007) it comes up with the following message:
"The program used to create this object is AcroExch. That program is not installed on your computer. To edit this object, you must install a program that can open the object."
I had no problems with AR v9.
Similarly, when I try to insert a pdf file as an object it comes up with exactly the same message.

    Sure.
    In Reader X:
Edit->Preferences->General->uncheck "Enable Protected Mode At Start Up"
    Cheers

  • Visio viewer will not open embedded .vsd file in word 2007

I am trying to open a .vsd file that is embedded in a word 2007 document. The user who embedded it had Visio 2007 and i only have visio viewer 2010 sp2 and IE 9. When clicking on the .vsd to open it i recieve an error that states:
The server application, source file, or item cannot be found. Make sure the application is properly installed, and that it has not been deleted, moved, renamed, or blocked by policy.
There is a user that can open the embedded file but they have Visio application as well as Visio viewer. It opens in Visio Application on that persons machine. The icon in word shows the Visio applications image. Does the embedded document have some sort
of defaulted program associated with it, ie (Visio 2007)? Or should this document be able to be opened with visio viewer?

Was anyone able to solve this?
I encounter the exact same problem, visio viewer 2013 + IE11 cannot open Visio files which are embedded in a word document, although it is possible to open regular visio files which are not embedded,
I know it is possible to extract the visio files from the word document (by renaming the .docx extension to .zip and copy the file from the word\embeddings folder), but I would like to know if there is a fix for this behaviour so it will be possible to open
visio files embedded in word document directly from the Word document using Visio viewer?
    thanks

  • Illustrator CC opens file showing missing embedded images. Illustrator 5.1 opens same file fine with no missing images.

How do I get CC to open these files correctly? Is the client saving them incorrectly?
My work around has now become a pain & I need to know why Illustrator CC tells me most/all embedded images are missing in files received by clients.
Illustrator 5.1 opens the files ok & gives me no errors. It does a few funky things because ti says the file was produced with a new version. The file previews fine in the Finder window & shows all images. The issue with opening them in 5.1 is it wants to open 1 page at a time like the AI file is a PDF.
Why is CC failing to recognize the embedded images? Are the images not embedded correctly by the client? Is 5.1 pulling from some lower res version of the images? Files export from 5.1 as hires. Stumped.
Oh my gosh why arent they just using InDesign. : (

Please get informed about how Illustrator saves files and what exactly is in a file and how it is re-opened.
    See: http://rwillustrator.blogspot.de/2006/11/whats-in-file.html
When in Illustrator CS5, Illustrator actually opens the PDF part of the file that contains all the images. Always.
When in Illustrator CC, Illustrator accesses the AI part of the file, which doesn't necessarily contain the images.

  • Word 2013 cannot open embedded .docx files

I am running Word 2013 64-bit as part of an Office 365 ProPlus install. I am unable to open any embedded .docx files. Double clicking launches the message "The server application, source file, or item cannot be found." Single clicking displays
the message "Double-click to edit Unknown".
I can open other embedded file types: doc, xls, xlsm. Embedded Outlook email files will open, but now display as OLE objects. Also the icon for embedded files now usually appears as the 'box with contents'.
Opening files directly in Word works correctly, the problem is limited to opening embedded docx files.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated...thanks. -JAmsUser

    Hi,
“I am unable to open any embedded .docx files” - I would like to confirm that whether these files are new created or existing files which might be created in an earlier version of Office.
The error indicates that the connection between the embedded documents and the Office application has been broken. So what if you remove and re-embed it into the document? Embed it again might pick up the new mechanisms.
I'd also suggest you run an Online Repair and see if it helps:

  • TS3276 how do you send file attachments (Particularly jpegs) so that receiver gets as a file not as an open embedded photograph

how do you send file attachments (Particularly jpegs) so that receiver gets as a file not as an open embedded photograph?

This sends the attachment as an icon, not embedded inline. Copy/Paste into Terminal in Utilities and hit return.
    defaults write com.apple.mail DisableInlineAttachmentViewing 1
To reverse the setting, change the 1 to a 0.
But how it will be viewed  will all depend on the e-mail client and settings of the recipient. Not under your control.
