Opening Encore 1.x projects in Encore CS3

Does anyone have a plug-in, tool, workaround, or app that can convert older Encore DVD 1.x projects into something that can be opened by Encore CS3? My company kind of waited 4 years despite my advice to upgrade our video editing suite, and we've thus made the jump from Encore 1.0 to CS3. None of my old projects will open unfortunately, and I'd like to update them to use some of the improved features.
I suppose I could re-install 1.0.1 as a compromise, but I'm afraid it may interfere with the CS3 software already installed...anyone know if the two can co-exist nicely together?
Thanks in advance!
Pete

Easiest step is what John suggests.
I'm not surprised that an Encore 1.5 project won't open in EN 5.1. But it is interesting to speculate as to why.
For one thing, the pars changed at CS4. I wouldn't expect that to crash EN, but who knows.
You can experiment by creating a new EN CS5.1 project, importing the menus from the old project folders, then import as timeline the old transcoded assets. If that works, then work on navigation.
Starting over is not that bad if your navigation is not complex.

  • Mac Encore CS3: 'Check A Project' Issue

    Hi,
Has anyone else encountered this with the Mac-Intel version of Encore CS3?
When 'building' and 'checking' an Encore CS3 project for problems, double clicking on a problem in the "Check a project" window 'opens' the item in the 'Properties Pane' but doesn't enable fixing in the'Properties Pane'as specified in the user guide?
For reference - Encore CS3 User Guide > Page 172 > "Check a project" > "A. Check the problems you want to identify" > "B. Double-click to open and fix a problem item" ("double-click" operation doesn't work properly)
It works just as specified on both Windows versions of Encore DVD 2.0 and Encore CS3!
    Thanks,
    Iain.

    Andy,
I'm assuming that you're running an IMAC version 10.5.8 with a 2 GHz Intel core 2 Duo.
Apple just did a major release for the IMAC.  I bought mine a year ago and pefromed the update.
THIS UPDATE WILL HAVE SOME WEIRD EFFECTS your files, especially adobe files.
It may not open them corectly or the new search algorithm has address header infomation to your files
which Adobe is not addressing.  If this is what is happening to you, then try the following.
    Perform a simple test.
    1) Create a brand new project. Menu, video, audio, timeline.  Same it.
    2) Reboot your  computer.  Open the project.  If it opens then you won't have the problem for all future project.
If you cannot open an old project, then it in order to retrive it, this may work.
Use the time machine feature on your imac (hopefully you enabled it).  If not this won't work.
    1) Set the time machine back to the last time you used a encore file, see if you can open it.
    2) IF YOU CAN, copy the PROJECT file off to a thumbnail drive. Remove the thumbnail drive frmo the computer.
    3) Set the time machine back to the present.
    4) Insert the thumbnail drive back into the computer.  open the project from the thumbnail
    5) If you are to open it, resave the project onto your computer's hard drive.
Let me know if that works.
    Good luck

  • Encore CS3 crash when i click Build (SWF, BluRay, DVD Burn/Image/Folder) or Check project

So I'm finally done with my DVD. Now i want this burned to a dvd or make an image file. Each time i hit BUILD or START (Check proj) the program quits and I'm left with the normal OS X message: The application Adobe Encore quit unexpectedly >> Ignore - Report... - Relaunch
My DVD is not that fancy but i got a menu with 3 buttons made in PS with a pointer highlight and a animating background made in After Effects (using dynamic link) with some music. All of the buttons link to After effects comps with dynamic link. All of the after effects compositions are transcoded and works within the DVD preview (except the DVD menu background wont play, and i got a feeling it will play when i export an image or DVD). And all the After Effects comps links back 2 the menu when done. So there should be no error in the project flowchart.

    (small jpg file)
So i hit build and Encore quits, shut down, finada (Every time!). No matter what out put settings i use. I've exported DVD's from encore before on this computer without problems.

Don't know if this any help but hope anybody got some ideas. I've been trying to look for a solution on the forums, but without any luck.
By the way, I'm using a Mac Pro v3,1 (early 2008) with 2 x 2,8ghz quads, 10GB memory, NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT (512mb) and plenty of disk space.

Hey, i think if there could be any of the possibilities you talk about, it might have been a naming error. All files i created had the same name in the new project as in the old one. But i used 1 asset arrow that i copy pasted from a library button "Red facets button" and shift pasted on my own buttons as highlight (paste sub picture). In the first project i did not do this as a straight forward thing, a lot of deleting and adding because i had never done it before and there might have happened something with the naming of the arrow i pasted. I used the same arrow in the second project but without messing with delete, paste all the time. But some how there is no problems now, just something wrong with the last project file =S
    Not so important:
I also noticed while building the new project i once got an "General error", not sure why but happened after a random crash. And 2 get rid of it i had to delete the menu and make it again (i could not edit anything in the menu without getting the error). I rebuild the menu and had another crash when exiting the program, because i thought my computer needs to boot after 2 days online. When i reopened the project i got "General error" in the menu again, but after some clicking it didn't show up (random). Finally i got my project setup and everything works, i did the copy past as sub picture as a straight forward thing.

  • Encore CS3 Project Size

I have recently upgraded to Encore CS3 from 2.0 and when adding MPEG2 files to CS3 that are around the 2gb size the project size goes to 3.7gb however in Encore 2.0 the project size was virtually the same as the MPEG2 file size.
Does anyone know why this is happening?

What is your default Audio codec?
Sounds to me as if it is set to LPCM.......

  • How To Archive Encore CS3 projects

Question: How To Archive Encore CS3 projects
I edit my AVI files in Premiere Pro CS3 and then author in Encore CS3. When the project is finished, I want to archive both the Premiere and Encore projects. If I need to restore a project, I would recapure the AVI files from the mini DV tapes using Premiere.
What Encore and Premiere files and folders do I have to save so I can later restore the project?
What files and folders can I erase?
    Thank you for the feedback.

Adobe Premiere Pro is very similar to Final Cut Pro (non-X). It has a number of pros, including being bundled with the Creative Suite, which includes Photoshop.
Avid Media Composer is, IMHO the best "story telling" editor, but is a little more difficult and unwieldy when it comes to effects etc. In addition to being pricey, it also require compliance with the use of only AVID approved hardware.
Autodesk has Smoke on the Mac, which is an excellent effects editor, but with a $17K price tag.
My personal plan is to bunker my FCS 3 systems and run them until they drop, while slowly and comfortable migrating to Premiere Pro.
One big advantage to either of these editors (with the exception of Smoke on the Mac)  is that they are cross-platform, so if you learn the Mac version you can switch easily to the PC version - which protects your investment of time in learning the softwre as the future for the Mac Pro is also hazy.

  • HDV CS3 Project to SD Encore CS3

I have a HDV sequence I've edited in PPro CS3. I want to export the sequence to Encore CS3 in standard definition.
What is the best way to accomplish this?
Option 1: Export the HDV sequence from PPro to an uncompressed DV AVI in Widescreen format at 720 x 480 (1.2). Import that AVI into Encore and let it compress the video to MPEG-2 format. I've read about some people using this workflow - however I'm not sure if I need to de-interlace my footage. I chose to use the lower field first since I'm going to DV AVI format. Should I de-interlace if I use this option? Also I noticed some small black bars on either side of my video when I go with this option - is there a work around for that?
Option 2: Expor the HDV sequence from PPro to MPEG-2 DVD format. Will my video look better if I export right to MPEG-2 DVD format from PPro's HDV timeline?
I have researched forums on this question however I'm unable to find a definitive answer on this subject.
    Thanks
    Foochuck

Most people would find neither of your options acceptable. The absolute best method is to use Dan Isaacs' hd2sd script with AviSynth. Just search this forum and you will find a wealth of information. There is also a great tutorial on dv2film that will show you how to install the tools. Also see http://invertedhorn.axspace.com/hdv2dvd_basic.html for much of the same info.

  • CS6 on Windows 7 - when I try and send my project to Adobe Link, then to Encore I repeatedly get the error message "Encore has stopped working, windows will close the program".  I get the same error message when I try and open Encore on its own.  Help wou

Both when I open Encore as a standalone program, and when I try and export my work via Adobe Link to Send to Encore, I get the same error message - "Adobe Encore has stopped working.  Windows will close the program.  Help would really be appreciated.  Thanks.

Now that is impressive Stan, thankyou!  So simple ...  I don't suppose you know why the "build" button is greyed out do you?  Don't worry if you don't have more "magic dust" at your fingertips, I'll re-check my settings again, and again ...  Thanks for your help.  Doreen.

  • Internal Software error PGC  for encore CS3 !!! solved  !!!

Almost everybody here knows the next error:
PGC "timeline name" has an error at xx:xx:xx:xy internal software error : %0, line timeline name - PGCINFO: name= timeline name, ref=BPGC, time=xx:xx:xx:xy
Where the y in time stands for the length of the timeline minus 2 frames. The BPGC error can also be FPGC or DPGC dependant on how many menu's there are in the project.
It kept me awake for weeks and after reading this forum several times and comparing encore CS3 with encore 2.0 filenames I found the solution.
This Error is a bug in encore witch has nothing to do with blank filename spots and sonic coding or codecs or planning your workflow with a pencil but pure with the combination Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 and Encore CS3.
This is what generates the problem:
In Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 you build project with video, sound and chapters. Then you export the project via the Media Encoder not Multplexed.
Premiere CS3 then creates the following files:
    filename.M2V (video file mpg)
    filename.AC3 (audio file ac3)
filename.M2V.XMPSES (an adobe file with preview info and chapter pointers)
    filname.XMP (??)
It is the .M2V.XMPSES file witch creates the PGC error. If you use the MULTIPLEX DVD option then ADOBE will not create the .M2V.XMPSES file so there will not be an error. This trick mentioned by ADOBE and many others is just to go around the bug instead of solving it. Also with multiplex you have just one sound track. I use two sound tracks like 5.1 and a 2.0 track witch you can choose in a menu.
Some people say it is the blank spots. Also not true. They have probably just erased the blank spots of the M2V file and forgot the .M2V.XMPSES file.
When you just delete the .M2V.XMPSES file and then open the M2V and AC3 file in Encore as a new asset, make a timeline and menu's and the project will built and burn. Only if you delete this .M2V.XMPSES file Encore takes a longer time to import the M2V file and will be without the chapter points.
Almost everything else will work like menu with sound and even a movie background (use M2V files). Only the motion buttons in a menu still wont work unless you use a black background !?!. Haven't figured this out yet. Only solution for this is use Encore 2.0. In this older version also the motion buttons will work without error's (everything else also so why buy CS3??)
Here is what you must do create a DVD without errors:
-Create a project in Premiere Pro, even with chapters.
-Write down all chapter points (minutes:seconds:frames)
-Create two new unique maps in explorer for example D:DVD1 and D:DVD2
-Export in Premiere with Media Encoder without the Multiplex:DVD but with NON to the D:DVD1 map
-Copy from D:DVD1 only the M2V and AC3 files to D:DVD2
-Start up Encore DVD CS3 or 2.0
-Create a new unique project in Encore for example "DVD" and save this in the map D:DVD2\
-Then use Save-as (under file) and pinpoint to D:DVD2\dvd to be sure that all Encore's files are placed in this folder.
-Select M2V file and make new timeline.
-Make chapter points (you wrote down the points, did you?)
-Create menu's, even with sound (AC3) and movie background (M2V)
-Then render project if you have used a video for menu background
    -Finally Built and burnnnnnn!!
-If you like to use motion buttons in a menu then use Encore 2.0
I have double checked my work flow and it really works. I have built a project and burned with success Then I deleted the timeline and the M2V file. Copied the .M2V.XMPSES file in the used folder. Re loaded the M2V file in encore (this time much faster! and with chapter points). Tried to built and burn and back was the error. Also this happened in in Encore 2.0!!
Hope that this will solve the PGC error once and for all !!!

    > Where the y in time stands for the length of the timeline minus 2 frames.
This can actually vary, and so far at least, I don't think we've seen a pattern as to type of pgc error based on how many frames from the end it reports.
    > The BPGC error can also be FPGC or DPGC dependant on how many menu's there are in the project.
Number of menus is not relevant; the iteration of the first letter is more related to subsequent occurrences of the error. In my current tests it did not always update; they may have been too similar.
    > This is what generates the problem...
Well, the problem does not occur every time you do what you describe, any more than it occurs every time spaces are left in the file names. What you have is, as some other suggestions, a workaround. Thats not bad, and I wonder if you are onto something as to what is contributing to the problem.
So, on to the interesting part whether the xmpses file, or at least what Encore is doing with it, is contributing something. I took an old test project that throws the PGC error and did some experiments.
Background. I am a user who does get the pgc errors regularly, but not always. Creative Suite Production Premium, with PPro CS3 3.2.0 (374) and Encore 3.0.1.008. Pentium 4 2.8GHz 2G RAM, XP SP3, Multiple drives, Nvidia GEforce4 MX440 i.e. an older system. I have lots of stuff loaded and running, including virus protection and firewall, so there are any number of potential conflicts. But I get no crashes, and only one problem other than the pgc. (PPro and Encore monitor windows do this diagonal thing I suspect the display card, but the drivers are up to date. Maxing and then back to fit fixes it.)
If you want to attempt to replicate my studies, here is a link to my problem clip and the first Encore project I describe.
    http://www.videoandcomputer.com/test/pgc_test.htm
This project involves a very short AVI export from PPro CS3 - just over 8 seconds - called pgcbad_clip1.avi. Just to answer any question, the source is dv camera capture, and the source and avi export I use are dv avi type 2. There were no effects added on the timeline.
Test 1: Create a project in Encore CS3. Use the sunset menu and delete all the buttons except "play all." Import the avi as a timeline. Set the timeline end action as "return to last menu" and set the button link to the timeline. Auto transcode. (Project settings are 8mbps max and a3c.) Check project shows okay; there is never a problem with that. Build to a DVD folder in a new folder. This project throws the pgc error.
Test 2: Now create a new Encore project in a new folder. Use the same process, except import as timeline the m2v and a3c files from the first run. (I.e. if the clip is pgcbad_clip1.avi, in the test1 project folders, there is a folder called pgcbad_clip1.avi that has 6 files.) Note that in the folder they are imported from is an xmpses file from the first project's encore transcode. The build again fails with the pgc error - same frame, etc, but I really think the frame number doesn't matter.
Test 3: Now create another new Encore project in a new folder. Use same process, but before importing the m2v and a3c as timeline, delete the xmpses file. Drumroll...... Build succeeds!
    Go figure.
This is not the repeatable bug option weve been looking for, but based on a clip that always fails, it does demonstrate the odd event of deleting the xmpses file as a workaround. I wonder if that will give adobe something to work with.
Can anyone else get my clip to work/not work in a straight project?
Test 4: Just to answer the question since the avi file fails here, will the elemental option succeed? I exported elemental m2v and wav from PPro, used the same project process, and transcoded the wav. That build also works! I have seen this work both ways. I have had projects where the elemental failed, and an avi export worked. I do believe the elemental options work more consistently. But my project that I completed yesterday used all avi exports, animated buttons in the submenu, - no pgc error.

  • PGC error when burning in Encore CS3 ... help

I've looked and can not find any one else with exactly this problem. I recently upgraded to Adobe Creative Suite 3 and can not get a DVD to burn. The project checks fine, the files transcode without difficulty but during the burning process, I very quickly get a PGC "file name" error.
I have a Sony Pentium 4, 2 GHz, with 1.21 G of RAM, and plenty (30 G) free on my hard drive. I have a 16X Memorex DVD burner which is probably 6 months old, but up until now has worked great. I've tried several different brands of DVD-R media and same problem.
I'd describe myself as an advanced amateur at video making. I taught myself on Nova's Video Explosion and burned 100's of dvd's on the Sonic's My DVD program over the past 5 years. Actually that system worked well, but I'd outgrown it. I downloaded Encore 2.0 free 30 day trial and loved it. I'd import (uncompressed) avi files that I'd created in other programs (mostly Video Explosion, but also Movie Shaker, and Windows Movie Maker), create menus in PS CS2 and my DVD's burned quickly and without errors at all. When my 30 days expired, I found they no longer offered 2.0 and I decided to spend the big bucks at got Creative Suite 3 really solely for Encore.
I've now spent 3 days trying all kinds of different things, many different files from different sources and I always get the same error message of "PGC "file name" has an error at "time" internal software error %0, line "file name:, time 00:"time", ref= BPGC.
I did read some messages on here about uncompressed avi vs. compressed avi. I did find that I was using uncompressed avi, but when I used Adobe premiere and rendered as MPEG 2 ( I believe), I got the same error. The only success (?) I had was when I rendered a file as a .MOV. It did burn without the dreaded error message, but the quality was extremely poor and jumpy.
Any ideas? I've got a project due in a couple of days and at present I've got files that I can't get to DVD...

So, finally I've found the source of the problem and a workaround!
    First the source:
when Encore has to transcode a video it must corrupt the file, because it's the transcoded file that causes the problem, I tried this by importing a transcoded file into Encore 1.5 there it came with the same error.
Now the workaround, ok maybe it isn't quite a workaround but it's a way to go:
What I did was: I built my project new in Encore 1.5, because Encore 2.0 has a problem importing the videos by me, but if you would just import the videos in 1.5 and let 1.5 transcode them so that all of them would fit on a DVD you should be able to import the transcoded files in CS3 and it should work, no guarantee.
Other possibility: try opening your project in encore 2.0 and re import your videos there and let 2.0 do all of the transcoding, that might work too!
But for certain: don't let encore CS3 do all the transcoding!
I'm working with PAL files I don't know if it will be the same by NTSC, but it's worth a try!
If anybody feels like reproducing the bug, here is the way to do it:
Make a project in Encore CS3 and import Videos encoded by premiere as MPG2-DVD (I think: .m2v .wav) and set the transcoding options to automatic, encore should have to transcode the files. Then let encore make the DVD, at some point you should get that nice PGC error!

  • Can't open Encore

All my other Adobe programs will open from the Master Collection???
I want to open a project to begin learning how to use Encore to author my edited project in Pre Pro CS3. I can't get it to open.

"Re: How to fix Adobe Encore CS3 Crash ! ! ! READ by Abel Del on Jun 1, 2008 at 8:31:24 pm
Hi there!, I tried to load a cd/dvd on the drive...did not work!.... After a couples of days I finally hit the jackpot! ..here is how fix the Adobe Encore Cs3 Crash at the beginning..
The Issue was the Windows CD/DVD ASPI drivers for my DVD/CDs drive/s. yes!!!!! encore get stuck on the splash /loading screen when is displaying the "Come for the blu-ray, stay for the flash".  so here is the fix that worked for me:
Before you try anything else, give the latest drivers (version 4.71) from Adaptec a try. They are supposed to work under 98/ME/NT/2K/XP and don't care if you don't have an Adaptec SCSI card installed. http://download.adaptec.com/software_pc/aspi/aspi_471a2.exe
The first thing to check is to make sure that you have a fully functional set of driver files. Adaptec has produced a tool called ASPICHK which will tell you all about the health and version numbers of the drivers on your system.
when you unzipped the files inside there is a tool called "aspichk.exe".  then if you are running XP just double clink on the "aspiinst.exe" , reboot your system and done!!! to ensure that the you new drivers are installed run again the "aspichk.exe".
hope this helps!!! it worked for me like a charm. after trying everything. Adobe Encore CS3 load fast as ever!!! SWEEEET!!!!  cheers.  Abel"
This is what I read. The only difference is he was working with XP-32 bit.  I am running Vista-64 bit. They are not intended for Vista-64. I tried to run http://download.adaptec.com/software_pc/aspi/aspi_471a2.exe before I realized that and it did not work.
I just though this might be of some interest to you folks. I was excited until it woud not work on my system.
Oh well back to the HUNT...

  • Can't create working DVD in Encore CS3

    Hi,
I'v created an Encore CS3 project which works perfectly when built to a flash (.swf) and the buttons, menus & videos all works perfectly in the preview in Encore.
I've tried burning DVDs two ways:
    1. directly from Encore
    2. burn an image to my hard drive and burn that to disc using "ImgBurn" which is freeware recommended by another forum user.
Both have the same result - the video will play on my pc, but the buttons won't work. When I try a DVD player, the first play opens up but it won't allow me to arrow through menus or select anything - I tried both the play key & the enter key on the remote.
    I'm burning to a DVD+R
Any ideas? What have I done wrong?

The first thing I would check would be whether there are any overlapping buttons.

  • How to Open PPro CS4 project in PPro CS3?

I have to make hundreds of individual avis from a Ppro CS4 project. In CS4 the Media Encoder has to open up for each one and then I must wait til it loads the clip and then I can keep them in queue and do many at once but it takes forever. Is there any way to open this project in CS3 so I can simply export movie files one after the other (without that horrible media encoder)?

Unfortunately, there is almost zero backward compatibility. I did find that Encore CS3 Projects could be Opened, with few issues, in my EncoreDVD 2.0, but that was surprising, and not of help to you.
Now, one can use a bit of a workaround, if such is required. One can edit loosely in CS4 (remember, you will want Handles), or edit very tightly with all Transitions, knowing that those will not be changed in CS3. When done, Export (for SD Projects, either the DV-AVI Type II, or Lagarith would be good), and then Import that into CS3.
Also, an EDL might be useful. There is another option, similar to EDL, that starts with an A, but my mind has gone blank. Others will be quick to offer that, and tell you if it would be useful in your case - sorry.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Encore CS3, why does subtitle bounding box move itself?

I've imported a subtitle text file into Encore CS3, specifying the bounding box at the initial load.  I've saved the project and exited.  The next time I open the project, the bounding box has moved itself downward and to the right and taken the subtitles with it.  I can find no way to relocate the bounding box, therefore I can no longer access the subtitles to edit them.  I do not know (about to find out) if the built image will also have relocated subtitles.
Why is this, and what can I do about it?

They appeared wrong, so I built the image as a test after they appeared wrong.  The image was built correctly.
As it turns out, it's now an academic discussion.  I found I had already made the subtitle changes I had intended to make when the bounding box went bonkers.  But I have seen this phenomenon once before, a few years ago.  I forget what I did then, possibly blew the subtitle track away and reimported the subtitles.

  • Encore CS3 Freezes when Transcoding at Import

    HP Pavillion
AMD Athelon 64 X2 Dual Core
    Windows Vista Home Premium
    4GB Ram
The project has 4 menus and about 24 timelines.  When open the project eats about 2 GB of RAM.
All video files are DV NTSC 720x480 29.976 fps 4:3 quick time .mov
When transcoding a timeline in Encore CS3 (automatic settings) I constantly experience a "freeze" as Encore attempts to import the video.  It transcodes fine, conforms the audio fine and then as it switches to "importing" it freezes.  Sometimes I get an "Out of memory" error.
I tried upgrading my video driver to no avail.

Sounds like a system-specific problem, as I've never seen it.
Have you tried exporting MPEG-2 from Premiere, and using that in Encore?

  • Encore CS3: not enough space in disk now, but yesterday was OK!

Yet, another problem with Encore CS3: now it refuses to compile the DVD folder because the project exceeds the disk capacity (DVD DL).
I can´t understand this: yesterday it said that I was exceeding the disk capacity but it compiled the DVD files anyway (and there was really a lot of free space left in the disk, the VIDEO_TS folder was still under 8 Gb).
The only thing I´ve changed since then are the compression settings of one clip, reducing its quality so in theory I should have even more free space than yesterday.
I´ve been using this software for years and had never so many problems as with this project.

Go back to yesterday!  (Ha, ha!)  (I suppose that's half serious: revert to original and use your old settings.  But I wonder if this error will now occur even then.)
I've had good luck with opening CS3's in CS4.  I wonder if the PC to Mac change would be an issue.  Just copy it all so you have something to go back to.
One user had something like this happen because one timeline exceeded the size per side.  (That may have been BD.)
I wish I listed all the reasons for this the last time.
This may have also happened because the C: drive fills up with cache files. Try clearing the media cache?
