Opening .eps files to use in Fireworks

I have some graphics files I need to convert from .eps
(Illustrator) files to .png files or jpeg files to work on in
Fireworks. How can I do that?
Thanks

If you have full version of Adobe Acrobat, use Acrobat
Distiller to
convert eps to pdf, then ACrobat to convert pdf to something
else.
If you don't have Acrobat, there is a free solution:
http://www.ghostscript.com/
you gonna need Ghostscript (the Postscript interpreter) and
GSView
(frontend to it).
Unfortunately, I don't remember anything about GS frontends
for Mac, but
the kernel should be available for Mac as well.

  • Is it possible to open eps files with Keynote?

    I have some eps Clipart files that I have been trying to edit so I can use the individual clipart images instead of having to crop a jpef or tiff copy of the original file.
    However, I can't seem to open the eps version of the file in any of the applications I have, which makes the files almost impossible to use...
    Is there any way of actually opening the eps files with Keynote, or does anyone know of a program or app that I can open these with?
    Thanks!

    There are a number of compatibility reasons why Keynote will not open eps files
    I use Illustrator to open, then save as a different file any eps files which Keynote wont open directly.

  • Suddenly can't open .eps files in FW8

    Hi all-
    I suddenly can't open .eps files in FW8.  Starts to open and then says "Internal error occurred"  Text tool is also acting up.   I think it may be related to one of the extensions I downloaded  from the Adobe Exchange.  Or, maybe it was something I did.  Probably the latter.  Either way, it seems like my FW8 has gotten corrupted.   Ran spyware, adware, defrag, and virus scans.  Even talked nice to my computer, but nothing has worked.  I looked for patches or downloads on Adobe's site but there are none for FW8.
    Anyway, I'm guessing my only option is to reinstall, unless someone out there has a better idea.  If I do reinstall, does it erase everything?  Meaning, will I lose all extensions and all the settings?
    Thanks for your help!

    Using Win XP Media center edition v 5.1 Service Pack 3.  Been too afraid to upgrade to Vista.  Probably about time to upgrade my FW.
    I searched my entire machine for that file, both by file name and by all .txt files and could not find a "Preferences" file anywhere.  Here's what came up under the FW directory path:
    Thanks for your help, Heathrowe!

  • Can't open EPS files in Illustrator CS3 since installing CS6

    I'm on Windows 7, and need to be able to open .eps files with Illustrator CS3. Since installing CS6 yesterday I'm no longer able to associate EPS files with Illustrator CS3. When I right click an eps and go to "open with", only Illustrator CS6 is listed. When I "choose default program", only Illustrator CS6 is listed. If I "browse" and manually select the Illustrator CS3 executable, it still defaults to CS6. Using the same process with .ai files works fine, there is no issue. However these .eps files are not behaving like .ai files. If anyone could suggest a solution to my problem I would be very grateful.
    EDIT:
    Also, attempting to set the default program through the "set associations" control panel doesn't work, after selecting the Illustator CS3 executable it still shows up as CS6.

    Some research solved my issue. Need to create a registry entry for Illustrator CS3 (v13) in the eps file extension section of the windows 7 registry.
    1. Navigate to:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\.eps\OpenWit hProgids
    2. Create a new "binary value" key called "Adobe.Illustrator.13" (leave the value blank).
    That's it. CS3 is now a valid choice for eps files. Hope this helps anyone who has the same issue.

  • What are my options for opening EPS files in Elements 13? What is the best way to convert these to another type of vector file?

    I "upgraded" from Photoshop Elements... uh... mad old... to Elements 13 when my work computer got "upgraded" to Win8. Now I can't open EPS files which is how I receive collateral from our ad agency. What other vector files will work, and how can I convert EPS to these? Please be gentle if this is a stupid question - I know enough to be dangerous, but I'm not an expert at design by any means. I'm just frustrated because this isn't quite the "dead" file type that Adobe thinks it is. What was the point of upgrading if I'm pretty much left in the lurch?
    Thanks to any and all who can help! Much appreciated . -ASI

    What's important to understand is that Elements is a 'pixel' editor, not a 'vector' editor. As such, it has very limited 'vector' capacity (fonts, shapes...) What you are missing from older versions is the ability to convert vector items to standard pixel image file. To be able to open and work on eps files, you'd need Adobe Illustrator, which seems overkill for your purpose.
    So, your options are:
    - to request your ad agency to supply pdf format images instead of eps ones. My guess is that eps is beeing largely superseded by pdf, but I am not sure...
    - Use external tools to convert from eps to jpeg; a Google search would return free softwares like Irfanview or web based conversion.
    - You might want to keep (or reinstall) older Elements versions just for that purpose.

  • Opening EPS file in Photoshop 7.0, blacked out, can't see vector cutouts

    this is a 10 year old eps file. we used it to make vinyl cutout stickers.
    after opening in PS7, it's just black squares, without all the cutouts in each square.
    when opened in notepad, these are the 1st 2 lines...
    %!PS-Adobe-2.0 EPSF-2.0
    %%Creator:ScanVec CASmate(TM) 1.20
    been searching the forum for an hour, no luck yet.
    thanks for any discussion on this.

    still googling, looks like i need AI. rats.
    i don't need this stuff vectorized for cutting out this time. i plan to export jpg's for poster printing. so if i can at least open the file with the vectors visible, i could still work with and save as a psd. but to get those vectors, i gotta have AI? bummer.
    thanks

  • In which folder i should put eps parser.8by in elements 13, to open eps files??

    I have to be able to open eps.files in photoshop elements. it worked fine in 9, it did'nt occur to me that in newer versions you get less in stead of more..i regret buying it now
    So: in which folder i should put epsparser.8by in elements 13, to open eps files??

    Unfortunately, that EPS Parser.8BY only works in the 32 bit version of photoshop elements 13.
    If your windows system is 64 bit, then you would have the 64 bit version of photoshop elements 13 and the EPS Parser.8BY is an 32 bit plugin and won't work in the 64 bit version of pse 13.
    (i don't believe you can install the 32 bit version of pse 13 on a 64 bit windows system)
    So the solution would be to keep pse 9 and use it for things that pse 13 won't do.
    What features from previous versions are not available in Adobe Photoshop Elements 12?
    Also, from the release notes
    Following file formats are no longer supported in Photoshop Elements and the corresponding files will not be imported into the new catalogs:
    JPEG 2000, Filmstrip (FLM), Wireless BMP (WBM, WBMP), PCX, Targa (TGA, VDA, ICB, VST), Photoshop RAW (RAW), PICT File (PCT, PICT), Scitex CT (SCT), Photoshop EPS (EPS), EPS TIFF Preview (EPS), Generic EPS (AI3, AI4, AI5, AI6, AI7, AI8, PS, EPS, AI, EPSF, EPSP).
    In addition, on Mac OS following formats are no longer supported: IFF Format, Photoshop 2.0, Alias PIX, PICT Resource

  • Open eps files in Photoshop

    Is it possible to avoid the dialog box 'Rasterize Generic EPS format' while opening eps file in Photoshop.
    I wanted to run the batch process on a set of eps files for converting to GIF. Whenver the eps file is opened this dialog box appears.
    Thanks,
    Sashi

    Sashi,
    I have been working on the same thing you have and found another forum used to batch process pdf files, which easily altered to funtion for processing eps files.  The script asks you to select a folder where your eps images reside.
    var epsOpts = new EPSOpenOptions();
    epsOpts.antiAlias = true;
    epsOpts.mode = OpenDocumentMode.RGB;
    epsOpts.resolution = 72;
    epsOpts.constrainProportions = true;
    epsOpts.width = new UnitValue( 1700, 'px' );
    #target Photoshop
    app.bringToFront;
    var inFolder = Folder.selectDialog("Please select folder to process");
    if(inFolder != null){
    var fileList = inFolder.getFiles(/\.(eps)$/i);
    var outfolder = new Folder(decodeURI(inFolder) + "/Processed");
    if (outfolder.exists == false) outfolder.create();
    for(var a = 0 ;a < fileList.length; a++){
    if(fileList[a] instanceof File){
    var doc= open(fileList[a],epsOpts);
    var docname = fileList[a].name.slice(0,-4);
    while(app.documents.length){
    var saveFile = new File(decodeURI(outfolder) + "/" + docname + ".tif");
    SaveTiff(saveFile);
    activeDocument.close(SaveOptions.DONOTSAVECHANGES) ;
    function SaveTiff(saveFile){
    tiffSaveOptions = new TiffSaveOptions();
    tiffSaveOptions.embedColorProfile = false;
    tiffSaveOptions.imageCompression=TIFFEncoding.TIFFLZW
    activeDocument.saveAs(saveFile, tiffSaveOptions, true,Extension.LOWERCASE);
    Hopefully this script will help, as it is helping me.

  • Just installed Photoshop Elements 13 - how to open .eps files?

    I used to work with photoshop elements, never had a problem to open .eps files.
    but with the latest version photoshop elements 13 unfortunately i cannot open .eps files anymore.
    Do you have any idea how to solve this problem?
    Or do I have to buy another photoshop software....
    Thanks!

    I was rudely told by adobe there is no way to open an eps file. When I tried to respond he
    canceled our chat. But I read you can make it tiff? and do it that way? I tried to no avail. I paid 119 for this upgrade and now can't do what I need to. Any thoughts anyone to solve this problem? I have graphicstock.com and a lot of their files are either, jpg, png, eps , pdf files. I don't know why Adobe
    took away this and image extractor. Elements 13 is not what  I thought it would be. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I have been watching youtube videos to no avail.

  • Opening eps files  in illustrator cs3, created with GMT

    I have been using previous versions of illustrator (10.0, 11.0, 12.0) to edit my eps files created with GMT (Generic Mapping Tools) with no problem.
    I have just recently installed CS3. When I open these GMT generated eps files the colors are changed and lines are shifted when compared with the original eps image (which i can open and view in GSview, a postscript viewer, with no problem).
    My current work-a-round is to open these eps files with illustrator 11.0 (which I have installed on another computer), save the file as an AI file (version 11.0), and then open this file with illustrator CS3. The file then displays correctly.
    My question is this, what has changed with the CS3 version of illustrator that does not allow me to open eps files created with GMT (Generic Mapping Tools). Older versions of Illustrator open these files with no problems.
    My OS is windows XP - 64-bit. My older computer running illustrator 11.0 is winXP - 32 bit. I bought the newer Adobe Creative Suite 3 Design Standard because I was having trouble installing the older version of illustrator onto my 64-bit machine.
    Thanks!
    Laura

    Hi Laura,
    I have the same problem with CS5... and no previous versions to convert my files!
    Did you find another way?
    Thanks!

  • Cannot open eps files on maverick oSX with CS6

    I cannot open eps files on maverick oSX with CS6. AI and FW just hang and need to force quit to continue.
    I have tried using FW but no success. I can open old files but no new ones (existing on my computer) since upgrading to Maverick on a Macbook air.
    The files will open in Photoshop (as raster) and are able to be placed in ID.
    No Plugins in AI or FW.
    Latest Java update.

    If you can't open them, but place them, then the files might have been created with a newer version (like CC) or they might just be (partly) corrupt.
    You can try and create a new Illustrator file and place the EPS in it (embedded).

  • Having Trouble Opening .EPS File

    I am trying to open a .eps file in Illustrator CS3. As it is trying to open the progress bar for Parsing EPS format appears. Once the bar reaches the end, an error message shows up saying  operation cannot complete because of an unknown error. Can anyone please tell me why this is happening? Even tried opening it up in Photoshop and paring error message appeared. I am using a PC on windows Vista. Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Scott,
    I received the emailed file in zip. Tried opening it with illustrator and the same problem happened again. Any reason why it may still not be opening up? Do you recommend maybe reinstalling illustrator. This problem never happened before. Thanks

    Where did the file come from?
    Was it emailed to you?
    Email servers often corrupt eps files. It's best to have the person zip the file before sending it.

    elements 12 cannot open eps-files....what can I do??

    Hello miss a,
    please have a look there https://forums.adobe.com/thread/1334015?tstart=0 and see Corect answer: "Support for EPS files was dropped with PSE 11".  and have a look at consecutive number 8 (for PSE 12!): https://workspaces.acrobat.com/app.html#d=d7X1rXdE11yH0YHzrj7wog.
    If it's absolutely necessary to open these files you could use a trial version of PSE 12 for a while. But have a look at the restrictions at the end of the thread.
