Opening existing CC projects goes to queue

Hi,
When I click on ANY existing project AE goes to welcome queue or, if I uncheck the "show welcome screen..." box, it just goes to a new project window. Either way I used to be able to click a project and AE would open THAT project. This is a double search issue that is distracting and downright aggravating. Is something messed up in my preferences?
    Thanks, J

Helpful, albiet sarcastic footnote. I use a IMac 16G Ram Mountain Lion OS w eternal drives for media storage and 1 external cache (SSD Thunderbolt) drive. I have always opened projects by searching for and selecting a saved project and that file would open. Now, I get a welcome queue that shows recently opened choices only or New Comp, Open Project, etc. I would like to double-click any file and have that specific file open (I do understand that it may require updating to current CC version) without AE asking me where the file is again. This requires re-searching for the specific file.
Thanks for your quick response.

  • Cannot Open Existing Files (Projects) in Garageband

GB projects created only weeks ago are not listed in 'recent projects' so I click on 'Open an Existing File'. I can see the file but the Open button remains shaded. I tried opening by clicking Control/Open in Garageband - I get message "Output.AIF could not be opened. Garageband cannot open files in the AIFF-C audio format. I'm confused by this because I created these projects just weeks ago in Garageband but just had not opened them recently. I've had no upgrades performed software or otherwise. Naturally I would like to open and continue working these aging projects that I've already spent hours creating. I am hopeful someone has an easy fix for me.
    Thank you.

Thank you for responding Christopher, I really appreciate your time.
Turns out I was able to open via viewer, though I had done same earlier, this time it worked and opened the project window. I'm concerned about GB becoming unstable however, as I used to be able to open projects that aged off the 'recent projects' window directly by clicking 'open other existing files'. So, for now I will live with using the viewer. At least I didn't lose those hours of composition. I have ordered iLife '11, hopefully this will serve to enhance GB and create more stability.
Thank you again for helping me.

  • Cannot Open Existing iMovieHD Project

When I try to open an existing project, one that has 45GB of video editing in it, I get the message:
'A PROJECT FILE IS MISSING' and in smaller case the following:
"The file "still05.dv" couldn't be opened and is being skipped. Click " ignore all"to skip any remaining file messages."
Trying the IGNORE ALL procedure, as well as doing one clip at a time, another message appears:
"THE APPLICATION iMOVIE HD QUIT UNEXPECTEDLY. mac osx and other applications are not affected."
I ran a permissions and disk repair on my HD and everything is in working order. I have also gone to my preferences and trashed the 'iMovie plist" and the iPhoto plist. I estimate that there are about 6 clips that are causing the problem, but I can't get at them to correct it. Thes clips contain still photo and video data. I would be willing to sacrifice all of this to save the 45 minutes of almost finished video on the timeline viewer.
I have taken this problen to the local Apple Store Genius Bar, but they couldn't come up with any solution to save this project.
(I have a semi-edited file of this project saved on LaCie)

    Susan:
In case you missed it, the following might help you. Karl's first suggestion didn't work for me, but you might give it a try. The Quicktime solution I'll try later today. Good luck!
You're in virgin territory, Robert, so I doubt anyone has much of a clue. But for what it's worth...
    • iMovie HD wouldn't normally use "still05.DV" as a Media file name. It would use "Still 05.dv" instead. If it is in fact looking for "still05.DV" that may be a clue. So confirm the name.
    • It sounds like iMovie is trying to open the project as it should (in spite of not finding those files), but it's crashing because it's encountering a corrupt file. If one of the "missing" files is a corrupt file, you might try removing it/them from the project. They are in the Media folder of the project. (To look inside the project, Control-click on the project icon and choose "Show Package Contents" from the popUp menu.) Drag the file(s) outside the project package. Then trying to open the project.
I suggest doing that ONLY on a backup of the project.
    • You also might want to try opening the project.mov in QuickTime Player. Look for the "Timeline Movie.mov" inside the "Cache" folder of the project package. Double-click on it to open it in QT Player and try playing it there. Try this before removing Media files.
    • If the Timeline Movie.mov plays okay, you can import it to a new iMovie HD project. Everything from the old project will arrive in the new project as a single clip. Not the most convenient, but everything will be there and play in the proper order.
    • Or use Timeline Movie.mov to see what order to import Media files to a new project.

  • Unable to open existing idvd projects

When trying to open an iDVD existing project from the desktop, it will not open and comes up with a Connection failed - the server may not exist or it is not operational at this time.  Any recommendations on how to fix this and get it to work?

I think bymistake the system preset has removed or moved from <installa
    edpath>\Program files\Adobe\Adobe Encore CS5\Preset\internal preset\Blu-ray NTSC 1280x720 59.94p MPEG-2.epr.
Please check the preset in above location. If the "Blu-ray NTSC 1280x720 59.94p MPEG-2.epr" is not there in the above location then please search the preset in your system and copy that in the above location.
If you copy the preset in above location then you existing project will open.

  • Can't open existing iweb project

    hey guys
i can't open the project that i've already done using iweb, when i open, iweb asks me to choose a new theme for creating a new project

Your iWeb data is stored, not in your actual html files, but in a file called Domain.sites which is stored in your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder. If you want to work on your site on another computer, copy this file to a thumb drive to move it around.
You should backup this file whenever you make big changes to your site, because if it gets lost or damaged, you will have to start all over. Sadly, many many people learn this the hard way.
I have an Automator app on my site that will help you backup your Domain file(s). Click here to download it or visit http://iweb.varkgirl.com for more info. The app will make a .zip file of your Home/Library/Application Support/iWeb folder and save it to a location of your choosing.
Then check out Mozy for an online place to store your backups - I just found this and it seems great. They just recently released a Mac friendly version of their app - it automates the upload and encryption. You select the files you want to backup and it does the rest. You can set it to upload automatically after so many minutes of inactivity or once a day. It does it all in the background so you don't have to worry about it! 2GB of storage are free - plenty of room for most people's iWeb Domain.sites backups!

  • Export video clip from Premiere into an existing Encore project

New to encore.....love the software so far....but not much experience with it yet. Here is my question:
How do I go about exporting a video clip from premiere CS3 into an open/existing encore project. When I try to export to encore from the prem. timeline it makes a new proj. Sometimes I want to render out and export more than one asset into the same encore proj. but cant seem to figure out how to do that. any help would be great.
    Thanks,
    Eric

thanks J.....I have been doing it all along the way that you suggested. Just wondered if there might be a more efficient way to bring in multiple files. I appreciate your help with this....now at least I know that I am not doing things in a more difficult manner than necessary.
    Thanks again!

  • When I try opening an existing iDVD project, it doesn't open

When I try opening an existing iDVD '08 project, it goes back to the "start a new project, open an existing project" menu. I have spent several hours on the project and have quit iDVD and successfully opened it again numerous times, so I don't understand why that project won't open.
I have the most updated version of iDVD and deleted the iDVD plist in my library and used Disk Utility to repair permissions and restarted my computer, but it's still doing the same thing. I can see my project name in the "open" menu box and that it is 182 MB, and it lets me select it, but then it just goes back to that main iDVD menu. The project has 10 short movies (3 - 4 minutes each), no chapter markers, & one slideshow with 170 photos. I see a lot of postings about iDVD itself not opening, but that isn't the problem... I can open a new project with iDVD just fine.
    Any ideas?

Yeah. It does the same thing....opens the main startup window. Thanks though. Any other ideas?

  • Just installed Quadro 4000 Mac, now Premiere crashes when I try to open existing project

    Mac Pro 4,1
    Premiere Pro 5.5
    OS X 10.6.8
I just replaced the stock ATI card with a PNY Quadro 4000 for Mac.
Via CUDA Preferences, have updated CUDA driver to 4.0.50
    GPU driver is 1.6.37.0 (256.02.25f01)
When I try to open any existing Premiere project, Premiere crashes.
This happens whether I'm running the OS X 32-bit kernel or the 64-bit kernel.
If I launch Premiere and create a new project, Premiere seems to run OK. (I haven't yet tried adding any content or working with the content.)
As you can imagine, the only reason I shelled out for the CUDA-capable card was to take advantage of the hardware acceleration in Mercury. So ... not a very satisfying "upgrade" so far.
    Any clues?

There are four sequences in all. Two are super-simple, with only one clip in each. A third has only a single clip plus four titles. The main sequence has multiple clips, two stills and three titles plus one extra audio track.
When the crash occurs, there's no error dialog box. What I see is this:
After I double-click the project file -- or open Premiere and choose the project from the splash screen -- the "loading" progress bar appears and seems to complete loading.
Premiere starts to draw the window for its workspace. It creates a solid white rectangle, the wristwatch "wait" icon appears briefly, then Premiere crashes.
The log captured by the Apple and Adobe crash reporters shows (among much else):
    Exception Type:  EXC_BREAKPOINT (SIGTRAP)
    Exception Codes: 0x0000000000000002, 0x0000000000000000

  • Can't Open Existing Projects

Hello, I'm using GarageBand 3.0.4, and i'm having a heck of a time trying to understand why this is happening:
I have GB projects (music projects) made (only 2 of them). I click on the GarageBand icon in the dock, the window that gives you an option of what file you want to create pops up (after initializing). The last option says "Open Existing File". I click on it, brings me to the window to select the file I want to open. I select the one I want, click open, then....frustration.
What happens is, it just takes me back to the window that asks me what type of file I want to create (and the "open existing file" option at the bottom). I've tried opening up the other file, and still the same thing.
I even tried making a new project, saving it, and then try opening it up again, but does the same thing.
    What's going on here?!
    -Thanks

    Well, YAY! and Gah!
At least we have you up and running, but I'm not sure what the actual problem is.
It makes me think that some kind of support file is munged (technical term), but I wouldn't expect that to affect opening a file, just creating one (I've seen this and been able to recreate it, so it makes sense to me)
About the only thing that I can think off at the moment is reinstalling GB from the original DVD. I would probably search for everything with the name "GarageBand" and delete it/them (except, obviously, files or folders I created) and then do the install.

  • Why can't I open items in iDVD sub menu & Open Existing project lists?

Recently I installed *Jam Pack-Music of the World*. Since then, my iMac experienced one Kernal Panic while I was using iMovie. Later I tried to burn the movie I had been working on, iDVD got stuck at audio encoding and then quit unexpectedly a while later. When I tried to +'Open Existing project'+ in iDVD, I noticed the list of files in the *Movie folder* of the iDVD dialogue window are shaded grey and could not be opened. (They could however be opened from the *Documents foder* where they are shown as .dvdproject files.) Additionally it became clear that about 40-50 GB of storage space on the hard drive had been lost. I have also noticed that the items listed in the *iDVD sub menu* (tool bar) are also grey and cannot be opened - although if I first open a project from the documents folder these items then show black and can be opened. I've had my iMac for 18 months and had no real problems till now. I'm new to computing and at a loss as to what's happened and how to rectify it.

I don't purport to be an expert, but since you have not gotten a response as yet, I'll give you my comment.
If you got a Kernal Panic, your computer is in need of some maintenance. The following recipe is from one of the gurus on the iMovie formum in a different context. " Restart from your install disk (by holding down the C key as you restart), and go to Disk Utility, then repair the hard disk. Restart as normal and then repair permissions from the same utility."
Make sure that you have enough free space on your hard drive for these programs to work -- at least 15GB and better 25GB.
You could also try uninstalling Jam Pack-Music of the World, and see if that clears up the problem.
    Good luck.

  • Opening existing project with PRE 9

I have Premier Elements 9.0. When I start PRE and try to open a saved project, all I get is an empty window. The only way I can open an existing project is to first start a new one, then open the existing one from the File menu.
I don't know if it's connected, but I am also having a problem with installing an update that appears in Adobe Update manager. It downloads and then reports that it failed.

    bobsapey
Great job of resolving your Premiere Elements 9 project opening issue.
McAfee can be particularly problematic for Premiere Elements, controlling both the antivirus and firewall(s).
As a just in case note, are you working from the 9.0.1 Update of version 9. If not, good idea to do so. But, if you do, please
use the online link from Adobe rather than the 9's opened project's Help Menu/Update.

  • Can't open existing topics after opening project

Hi, I am using RH7 with Win XP.
When I open up my project and double click on an existing
topic to edit it, RH7 stalls/crashes. If I create a new topic, then
open an existing topic, everything works fine.
I thought the solution was the default editor setting I found
in the following topic but it turns out that it did not permanently
    fix the problem.

    Any ideas?

I have not reinstalled yet.  I am trying to avoid it like the plague since I would have to get my IT dept involved.
My projects are on my local hard drive.
The sample projects seem to work OK.
I have played around with the project a little more and I am finding that if I open certain topics for editing first then everything works fine.  It seems like trying to open up some topics right after opening the project will cause a crash.  In other words my problem seems to be topic dependent.
I looked at the HTML behind topics that work fine and ones that cause a crash and at first I thought the common link between the ones that were causing the crash were that they had some meta tags that started out like:
    <meta name=MS-HAID content=
but I found one exception so now I have no idea.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

  • Cant open project using "Open Existing File"

Using GB 11, if I try to open an existing .band project with the Open Existing File button, or from the File/Open menu option from within GB, the "Open" button is grayed out, as are all of the other buttons on the screen. On the other hand, if I select the project from GBs recent projects section, or if from Finder, I select Open with GarageBand from the File menu, I can open the project. I've checked that I have permissions on the Garageband folder and the files within. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks.

Thank you for your feedback about wanting to directly open .plproj files, this is a feature we hope to introduce in the future.
As for a Save As... feature, can you please file a feature request from http://adobe.com/go/wish ?  Please include a description of your workflow and how Save As would help you. That will help us understand your requirements. Thank you!
