Opening existing projects in iDvD

i have been able to burn existing projects in iDvd but when I exited and went back in, I cant open them anymore? can someone please help? thanks!

Hi
Did You alter anything in the movies or materials that built Your DVD project.
eg clicked on Update Project button -
If so - this is a BUG - and only way around it as I know of is to start all over
in iDVD and a new project.
Jumping from iDVD to iMovie to correct and then back - DOESN'T WORK - Apple know's about it !
else
*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.*
• Delete iDVD pref file - *or rather start a new user/account* - log into this and re-try
iDVD pref file resides.
Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences
and is named. com.apple.iDVD.plist
While iDVD is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
Now restart iDVD.
• Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
• Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
• Program miss-match. iDVD 5.0.2, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK - DON’T work under Leopard
• Program miss-match. iDVD 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
• Program miss-match. iDVD’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.5.5 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
• iDVD (08) v7 Locate theme folder. Move out iDVD1, iDVD 2 and eventually iDVD4 folders to desktop - re-try
• Try a Cleaning CD/DVD that cleans the laser lens on the DVD burner/player
iDVD 6.0.4 and iDVD 7.0.1 are compatible with Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard
Last resort. from Craig. Solved the problem!! Finally!!
I deleted every iDVD application and folder from my boot drive,
emptied the trash and then installed iDVD 08 using the customize option
and I am up and running.
If You do a re-install be sure to get rid of all iDVD old parts AND then EMPTY the Trash-basket !
iDVD updated ?
Apple Codec updated ?
Start a New Clean project - or delete project assets
No of Colors - must be set to millions

  • Unable to open existing project in idvd

I have saved a project in Idvd (dvdproj. file), I can locate the project however when I try to open it, it opens a blank project.  I am using idvd ver. 7.04. What am I doing wrong as I don't want to re-create as I have several hours invested in the Idvd project file.

I don't normally use iPhoto, so I imported a QuickTime movie. It shows up in the Media pane in iDVD. Did you create an Album for them?

  • Why can't I open items in iDVD sub menu & Open Existing project lists?

Recently I installed *Jam Pack-Music of the World*. Since then, my iMac experienced one Kernal Panic while I was using iMovie. Later I tried to burn the movie I had been working on, iDVD got stuck at audio encoding and then quit unexpectedly a while later. When I tried to +'Open Existing project'+ in iDVD, I noticed the list of files in the *Movie folder* of the iDVD dialogue window are shaded grey and could not be opened. (They could however be opened from the *Documents foder* where they are shown as .dvdproject files.) Additionally it became clear that about 40-50 GB of storage space on the hard drive had been lost. I have also noticed that the items listed in the *iDVD sub menu* (tool bar) are also grey and cannot be opened - although if I first open a project from the documents folder these items then show black and can be opened. I've had my iMac for 18 months and had no real problems till now. I'm new to computing and at a loss as to what's happened and how to rectify it.

I don't purport to be an expert, but since you have not gotten a response as yet, I'll give you my comment.
If you got a Kernal Panic, your computer is in need of some maintenance. The following recipe is from one of the gurus on the iMovie formum in a different context. " Restart from your install disk (by holding down the C key as you restart), and go to Disk Utility, then repair the hard disk. Restart as normal and then repair permissions from the same utility."
Make sure that you have enough free space on your hard drive for these programs to work -- at least 15GB and better 25GB.
You could also try uninstalling Jam Pack-Music of the World, and see if that clears up the problem.
    Good luck.

  • Can't Open An Existing Project in iDVD

I've prepared an iDvd project saved it and when ever I run iDvd and select "open an existing project" it just freezes and only gives me the option to "Force Quit". It allows me to create a new project but I can't open my existing one. Can anyone help. I hope I don't have to start it all over again.

Have you tried deleting iDVD's preference file?
Close iDVD. Go to your Home folder(YourUserName)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.idvd.plist
Drag this plist file to the trash. iDVD will create a new fresh one when you reopen it.
Open iDVD, and see if this problem is resolved.
If not, try signing on as a new account. Go to system preferences, account.
If that resolves the problem, then it is not the software. Post back for more assistance with this.
If neither of these helps, you may have to reinstall iDVD. Again, post back if you get to this point and want assistance with reinstalling. You will need to find your original iLife installation disks, or the Mac installation disks if iLife was preinstalled on your computer when you purchased it.

  • Unable to open IMovie Project in IDVD

I have created a 40 minute movie in IMovie 08 (my first). I am unable to open the movie in IDVD 08 and Garage Band. The project name is visible in the media browser but is not available for selection.
I have published the movie to the media browser and it still is not available to IDVD.
I am new to apple computers and have been unable to get help with this problem.

    Here's two things to try:
This frequently helps solve some problems. Search for the file named com.apple.iDVD.plist and trash it. (A new one will be created next launch of iDVD.) Or look in: User/Library/Preferences. This may solve project loading errors too. Restart and use Disk Utility to Repair Permissions.
You'll need to reset some Preferences.

  • Opening existing project with PRE 9

I have Premier Elements 9.0. When I start PRE and try to open a saved project, all I get is an empty window. The only way I can open an existing project is to first start a new one, then open the existing one from the File menu.
I don't know if it's connected, but I am also having a problem with installing an update that appears in Adobe Update manager. It downloads and then reports that it failed.

    bobsapey
Great job of resolving your Premiere Elements 9 project opening issue.
McAfee can be particularly problematic for Premiere Elements, controlling both the antivirus and firewall(s).
As a just in case note, are you working from the 9.0.1 Update of version 9. If not, good idea to do so. But, if you do, please
use the online link from Adobe rather than the 9's opened project's Help Menu/Update.

  • Cannot open existing Project File - General Error

I recently copied some FCP 4.5 projects from one drive to another (drag and drop) due to drive space issues. I did NOT use media manager to do this. I did not delete any files before I went back to try and open the project in the original location. Instead of the project loading, I got the "General Error" message. I could not open the newly copied version either. I deleted all rendered files I could find, no luck. My scratch discs are not located in one area (since some have been moved too), and I wonder if the links have gotten scattered. Does this have anything to do with this problem? If one moves an existing project's scratch disk files to another location, will it cause this problem? Any help will be appreciated. My deadline approaches quickly.

Moving project files shouldn't mess things up, unless you've updated FCP version.
I see you're on Tiger...have you been able to work FCP 4.5 projects on that OS/QT, in the past?
Moving the scratch files will drop the link, but you should be able to 'reconnect media' to get them back, provided you can get your project files to open.
Have you tried opening an autosave version of the project files in question?

  • Can't Open Existing Projects

Hello, I'm using GarageBand 3.0.4, and i'm having a heck of a time trying to understand why this is happening:
I have GB projects (music projects) made (only 2 of them). I click on the GarageBand icon in the dock, the window that gives you an option of what file you want to create pops up (after initializing). The last option says "Open Existing File". I click on it, brings me to the window to select the file I want to open. I select the one I want, click open, then....frustration.
What happens is, it just takes me back to the window that asks me what type of file I want to create (and the "open existing file" option at the bottom). I've tried opening up the other file, and still the same thing.
I even tried making a new project, saving it, and then try opening it up again, but does the same thing.
    What's going on here?!
    -Thanks

    Well, YAY! and Gah!
At least we have you up and running, but I'm not sure what the actual problem is.
It makes me think that some kind of support file is munged (technical term), but I wouldn't expect that to affect opening a file, just creating one (I've seen this and been able to recreate it, so it makes sense to me)
About the only thing that I can think off at the moment is reinstalling GB from the original DVD. I would probably search for everything with the name "GarageBand" and delete it/them (except, obviously, files or folders I created) and then do the install.

  • Premiere Pro 5.5.2 crashes on opening existing project

ok so i haven't had an issue before. but its been a few months since i last used premiere pro.
so i open premiere pro and i create a new project, i add my music and the mp4's i will be using, i'm on a mac osx by the way most recent version, so im able to select specific scenes from the mp4's and add them to the time line as well as add the music to the timeline. i make a good 30 seconds and figure i will continue this project tomorrow. so i save and close the application.
its today now, and i go to open my project, and all these errors are happening. first in the preview window theres an orange sign stating theres no media or something, i can't view my timeline sequence i made the nite before, i cant even add my videos that were already imported to the project the other nite, or if i am able to add them to select a scene, it freezes in a somewhat bright black window is shown.
ive tried resetting preferences, by holding down shift and alt on my keyboard, that didnt work. deleted the rendered previews, that didnt work. i see many posts on here where no one has been able to even fix the issue. no one from adobe seems to know whats going on.
so what is going on? i'd like to finish my project.

c'mon all these views and NO ONE has an answer? where's adobe guys? shouldnt they be monitoring and seeing how to help?

  • Can't start any new projects or open existing projects

Since today, Premiere isn't working at all! I'm getting the well known error message
I red about this bug that it appeared when trying to open existing files, but in my case i can't do anything anymore! What to do? Tried uninstalling iCloud, re-installing Premiere pro and system recovery, none worked... Please help...
    Kind regards, Henri

You should have read the rest:

  • Just installed Quadro 4000 Mac, now Premiere crashes when I try to open existing project

    Mac Pro 4,1
    Premiere Pro 5.5
    OS X 10.6.8
I just replaced the stock ATI card with a PNY Quadro 4000 for Mac.
Via CUDA Preferences, have updated CUDA driver to 4.0.50
    GPU driver is 1.6.37.0 (256.02.25f01)
When I try to open any existing Premiere project, Premiere crashes.
This happens whether I'm running the OS X 32-bit kernel or the 64-bit kernel.
If I launch Premiere and create a new project, Premiere seems to run OK. (I haven't yet tried adding any content or working with the content.)
As you can imagine, the only reason I shelled out for the CUDA-capable card was to take advantage of the hardware acceleration in Mercury. So ... not a very satisfying "upgrade" so far.
    Any clues?

There are four sequences in all. Two are super-simple, with only one clip in each. A third has only a single clip plus four titles. The main sequence has multiple clips, two stills and three titles plus one extra audio track.
When the crash occurs, there's no error dialog box. What I see is this:
After I double-click the project file -- or open Premiere and choose the project from the splash screen -- the "loading" progress bar appears and seems to complete loading.
Premiere starts to draw the window for its workspace. It creates a solid white rectangle, the wristwatch "wait" icon appears briefly, then Premiere crashes.
The log captured by the Apple and Adobe crash reporters shows (among much else):

  • Adding a main theme to an existing project in iDVD 06

    Hello everyone
I've created an iDVD of our summer holiday using the Fish theme. This is my first go at creating iDVD. After having completed the work I realised that I could add more content to the DVD as it is only a quarter of gig in size at the moment. The problem is that I want to create a new title menu to sit on top of the existing one from where I can point to the existing summer holiday content and add new buttons and menus such as for the childrens' birthday content. I don't want to lose any of the links that I have already created in my existing title menu. Is there any way that this can be done, hopefully, easily.
    Many thanks for any help.

    Hi Everyone
I managed to find a neat and simple solution to my problem. In the main menu I created a sub menu. I selected all the buttons, except the "New Sub Menu" button by clicking whilst holding down the shift key. Using the Edit menu I cut the selected buttons. I double clicked on the New Sub-Menu button to go down to the sub menu and pasted the cut buttons. And it worked. All the previous links to movies and photos in other sub menus were maintained and worked fine when I tried them. Went back to the main menu and typed "Our Summer Holiday" in the newly created button with links to what was essentially the previous main menu. Now I can add other new sub menus to the main menu, such as "Children's birthday party" and carry on adding movies, photos, etc.
I did make a copy of the original before putting this idea to test. Isn't iLife wonderful.
Listen, thank you very much for all your help. This is really a great forum. I was not expecting such quick responses.

  • IDVD won't open after trying to open a project that had missing links

I hope I can explain this correctly.
I created a DVD using iDVD last week, it had many short movies on it in different menus plus some photos in the menu areas. After I created the DVD & burned it, I moved the videos (plus a ton of other clips from the same year) to an external HD, as they were taking up tons of space on my hard drive.
Today I opened iDVD hoping to create a 2nd DVD project for a different year of clips. I had started to set up this DVD a few days back & saved it. When I clicked "open existing project", I found the projects but mistakenly clicked on the one that I had already burned. It acknowledged that it couldn't find the videos (since they're on an external HD that was not hooked up) and showed them all as broken links. Fine.
I tried to open the correct project, at which point iDVD froze & I had to force quit.
Since then, every time I try to open iDVD from Applications, I get a window asking where to look for the photos from the original one I opened, not the usual "create new project/open existing project" window. If I hit cancel in this window, everything disappears but the iDVD icon remains in the dock, but I can't open anything or do anything with it & have to force quit. If I try to do "find file", it just starts to search. Either way the whole program freezes up & I can't do anything with it.
Also, the iDVD menu will be at the top of the screen during this but I can't click to open anything else.  As soon as I click elsewhere on the screen, the iDVD menu disappears, the icon is still on the dock, it won't do anything again & I have to force quit yet again(and get a message that iDVD quit while unresponsive).
I'm going to try shutting down & restarting but anyone know anything about this?
    Thanks.

    Try the following:
1 - delete the iDVD preference file, com.apple.iDVD.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iDVD/s cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iDVD folder.
3 - launch iDVD and try again.

  • Shared iMovie 9.0 Project using iDVD option did not work

I created an iMovie project and want to create a DVD. I shared the iMovie project using the Share>iDVD option. The file took about 1-1/2 hours to create. Once it was completed iDVD opened but no movie appeared. I only saw the standard 4 option splash plate you get when iDVD opens. The created file exists, I found it. I tried opening the file using "Open Existing Project" but the file won't open. I thought the file was too big, but reading other posts that is not the problem.
Why won't the shared file appear in iDVD??

ask the makers of this 3rd party plugin.
    try the free perian.org plugin.
… why that historic format anyhow …?
keep in mind: iMovie is meant for Camcorders.

  • Burning a FCP project in iDVD?

I would like to burn a FCP project to DVD using iDVD but cannot seem to import the project...when I open iDVD, and select open existing project, none of my FCP projects can be selected.  Is there another way I should be doing this? Should I be using DVD Studio Pro? Thanks!

    Hi
    FCE/P to iDVD
    Several things
    • How to go from FCE/P to iDVD
    • Free space on Start-up hard disk
    • Encoding
    • Brand and type of DVDs used
    • Burn speed set
    • iDVD BUG
    • Chapters
How to go from FCE/P to iDVD I do
    • Disable Screen and Energy saver
    • IMPORTANT --> FIRST in FinalCut - Mix Down Audio under Sequence Menu / Render Only / Mix-down
    • Export out as a QuickTime .mov file
    • Select with Mark - Chapter Mark
    • Not as Self-Contained (not important but saves time and space)
    • NO QUICKTIME CONVERSION (IMPORTANT)
This QT.mov file I import into iDVD from within iDVD.
Free space on Start-up hard disk
I set a minimum of 25GB (for Mac OS and iDVDs temp files)
    Encoding
    • I use Pro Quality encoding
Brand and type of DVDs used
    • I use Verbatim
    • I use DVD-R
    Burn speed set
    • I set down this to x4 (or x1)
    iDVD BUG
    • One can not go back to movie-project for any alterations and then go back to
the iDVD project. It will notice and ask You to either Up-date or Cancel. Neither
    of them will work.
Medicine - Start a brand new iDVD project.
    Use of Chapters
    • I only use a to z and 0 to 9 in naming them. NO other symbol/letter !
    • NO Chapter-mark at very beginning - iDVD NEEDS TO set this by it self
    • No Chapter marks in or within two seconds from a transition
(Way around this last one - Export movie as QT full quality and NO Chapter marks
Import this into a new Movie-project and now You are free to set C-Ms where You want
them except at very beginning - still)
    Material used to build movie
    • video - I use streamingDV (or convert all other to this e.g. .mp4, .avi, .wmv etc)
    • audio - I use .aiff 16-bit 48kHz or from Audio-CD (44.1kHz) - no .mp3 or direct from iTunes
    • photos - I use .jpg - no .bmp etc
Trash iDVD pref. file and run Repair Permissions - and have a re-try.
    from post ??
May not be relevant, but I had the same problem with iDVD, where burned DVDs showed a green screen. It was cured by quitting Quicksilver and Quickeys as well as disabling sleep and screen-saving
