  • ITunes opens explorer window when searching for updates or selecting restore for any iOS device.

    When trying to check for updates from within iTunes for any device, or trying to restore a device in iTunes I click the update/restore button and iTunes opens an explorer window for me to browse to the .ipsw file. I am unable to get iTunes to check the Apple servers for the restore/update files.
    Where is this setting stored either in the registry or the iTunes folder?
    I have performed a clean uninstall (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1923) , have removed my apple preferences that were stored in the AppData folders for each user and have reinstalled and still see the explorer box rather than the check apple for updates dialogue.
    I have a feeling that the particular setting is somewhere in either the itunes library folder, in the registry or in another plist file... but where is the question?

    Have you had any luck in resolving this issue? Seems Apple are a bit quiet on it...

    Hi i have a java application running on a unix machine.What does this have to do with the rest of the question?
    On a jsp i need to provide a hyperlink which should open a new window but not the internet explorer window but the windows explorer window of some remote windows machine. How can this be done. Can anybody suggest?You want to execute the Windows Explorer program on somebody's computer from within the browser? Running executables from the browser is a security hazard that the browser tries very hard to prevent. You can't do it without getting the user to install some software into their browser where they agree, in advance, that they will let your site do insecure things.
    In this case most likely an ActiveX component would be the best bet.

  • Firefox opens up an explorer window when I download a file

    Recently, Firefox started opening up an Explorer window every time I download a file. It's Better Explorer, actually, since I use that to replace the Microsoft version. The folder that opens is the target destination. So it creates multiple tabs, but I expect that it would just open up multiple instances of Windows Explorer if that's what I used.
    So if I download a dozen images, I get a dozen tabs opened. This doesn't happen with IE or Chrome. I do have multiple extensions installed, but I've gone through the options in Firefox and any relating to downloads and none of them seem to have anything that might cause this. I did check the Applications tab under the Firefox Options, since that seemed like a probable cause. But I don't see anything. And I don't recall changing anything recently, in any case. I can't see anything in Better Explorer that would cause this behavior. Which is borne out by this not occurring in other browsers. And I haven't changed anything it, either.
    I tried downloading something with NetVideoHunter and I get the same behavior. But it doesn't happen with DownloadThemAll!
    I've tried researching it on-line, but the queries I use are apparently too similar to the ones for other issues, because nothing that comes up is even close to my problem.
    As this is getting very annoying, any help would be greatly appreciated. Firefox remains my favorite desktop browser and I'm not prepared to give it up over this. But I'd hate to have to reinstall it, since I have it configure just the way I want it. And I'm not even sure that would fix the issue.
    Thanks

    Start Firefox in [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode safe mode] to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
    Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.
    * https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Safe+Mode
    * https://support.mozilla.org/kb/Troubleshooting+extensions+and+themes
    In Firefox Safe mode these changes are effective:
    * all extensions are disabled (about:addons)
    * default theme is used (no persona)
    * userChrome.css and userContent.css are ignored (chrome folder)
    * default toolbar layout is used (file: localstore-safe.rdf)
    * Javascript JIT compilers are disabled (prefs: javascript.options.*jit)
    * hardware acceleration is disabled (Options > Advanced > General)
    * plugins are not affected
    * preferences are not affected
    Your profile folder contains a user.js file, which includes preferences that were not created by Firefox.
    so you may want to also check for a user.js file and DELETE that.

  • Cannot delete exe files - The action can't be completed because the file is open in Windows Explorer

    We have received 3 new computers with Windows 8.1. All of us 3 have the same problem: we cannot delete exe files with message "The action can't be completed because the file is open in Windows Explorer"
    For example, I download skypeinstall.exe on desktop, install the program correctly and then try to delete the file: file is in use by Windows Explorer, cannot be delete.
    We reboot computer, we are able to delete the file. But, if I restore the file from the recycle bin on the desktop, I cannot delete it again until I reboot the PC. I used ProcessExplorer to see what is locking it and I can see 5 instances of explorer.exe
    locking the file.
    I can always reproduce the same way:
    1-Reboot
    2-Delete exe file
    3-Restore file
    4-Delete stop working and 5 explorer.exe handle are locking it.
    I have tried the following so far after reading multiple threads:
    - De-activating Windows Search service
    - Activating User Experience service
    - Deleting from command prompt (no success)
    - In folder options: inactivate display icon on thumbnail and activate always display icons, never thumbnail
    - Changing folder view (contents, detail, small icons...)
    - Using Lock Hunter - not working until reboot
    None of these worked.
    We all have Windows 8.1 with Crucial SSD drive, could the problem be linked with the SSD drive incompatibility?
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi,
    Please try to make a clean boot for your system, then check if this problem resolved.

    If problem persists, try to open Resource Monitor to check handle of Explorer.exe, if there any exception, end them for test.

  • Windows 8 takes time to open explorer.

    Windows 8 takes time to open explorer (My Computer), found that if the network drive group policy is removed it opens fast.
    Please help to diagnose the issue.

    Hi,
    According to your description, if this is related with mapped drive, it might be inaccessable network drives, I suggest you check the network connection between the PCs. Explorer may struggle if there is a problem with the other computers or with
    the network.
    Or as
    britishdhez mentioned, check if a 3rd party program is the culprit.

  • How to Create a Dynamic http address that opens the Explorer Window for a List Item When a Button Is Clicked--Currently Trying to Make this Work with Javascript

    I have created a button (via Content Editor) that uses JavaScript to open the Attachments folder of a list item in the Explorer Window in SharePoint 2010. The purpose is to have drag and drop functionality for each list item, having multiple attachments.
    The button works but opens the "Attachments" folder containing all of the other folders for each list item (one folder per item). It seems that when you add an attachment to a list item, SharePoint numbers the folder based on the item's ID. What
    I'm trying to do is take the JavaScript I have and have it run when a button is clicked in a custom form. When it runs, I'm trying to get it to open the "specific" folder for the list item. I have had success creating a hyperlink in the list that
    does this; however, the link WILL NOT work until I use the Content Editor created button that runs JavaScript, that prompts me to click OK to my profile certificate, and then opens the Attachment folder. After that occurs, I can use my hyperlinks without issue
    because I'm no longer prompted to click OK for my cert.
    So I'm trying to take the JavaScript I have and place it in a list item form (custom form) and have it run when a form button is clicked. The problem is I have very little knowledge of JavaScript (did I mention little?) and
    "don't know how to take the "http:" address I have in the script and append to it the list item ID, according to the record I have open."
    So that for any record I open, the script will grab the corresponding record ID (or list item ID) and append it.
    Here's the script I'm working with (which I didn't create but am grateful for):
    <style>
    .httpFolder {behavior:url(#default#httpFolder);}
    </style>
    <script text = "javascript">
       function fnOpenFolderView(){
       oDAV.navigateFrame("https://server/collection/site/subsite/Lists/Sublist/Attachments","_self");
    </script>
    <div id = "oDAV" class = "httpFolder"/>
    <input type = "button" value = "Open Attachment Folder" onclick = "fnOpenFolderView()"/>
    The above script, in the Content Editor, creates a button that opens the Attachments folder for the corresponding SharePoint list.

    Hello Thriggle,
    Thank you for pointing that out. I appended your "GetUrlKeyValue" to the end and it worked. That said, I noticed it doesn't run as smoothly as when I simply click on the Content Editor button I created that resides on the SharePoint List
    ASPX page (not the form). The Content Editor button has the same code, minus the "GetUrlKeyValue". I click it; I get prompted to choose my cert; it opens right up.
    Now go to the ASPX Display form where I dump the code in a table cell. Button appears in cell; I click it; wait; wait; I get prompted for cert; it opens. Do I need some sort of "throttle" for the JavaScript? For instance, I thought before running
    JavaScript, you reference the library first. This code doesn't do that. I'm wondering if there's something more I need to make this run smoothly. Thank you both for getting me this far.

  • IE 11 - Sharepoint open in windows explorer not working

    In my IE 11 - Sharepoint open in windows explorer don't work.
    It appear always error message "Your client does not support opening this list with Windows Explorer"
    Already installed FIX ( http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2846960)
    Restart laptop
    Then Sign in to the SharePoint Online site with Keep me signed in option
    But still dont work.
    This happens in all libraries. This issue happens in our corporate intranet. I had this issue in another laptops but with the Microsoft FIX and following all that steps, it solved.
    But for whatever reason now i have 2 machines that even after applying the same Fix and steps still continues not working.

    Hi,
    From your description, my understanding is that you cannot use “open with explorer” in 2 machines in your farm.
    If you have installed Desktop Experience feature in your environment, please add your SharePoint Server(http://spserver) to Local intranet site with steps below:
    Open “Internet Options” menu.
    Click “Security” tab.
    Click Sites.
    Click Advance.
    Enter your SharePoint Server, click Add.
    Close and apply.
    Restart your browser, and test your issue.

    Please help

    Hello,
    Please download this
    ZIP file and extract it. Once extracted, double-click the REG file to import it into the registry. Once done, this will enable creation of crash dumps when Explorer crashes. So, the next time this happens. you should fine a DMP file on your desktop. Compress
    and attach the file here. Having the file will help us identifying the cause of the issue.

  • Adobe & Internet Explorer crashing when opening pdf within an Internet Explorer window

    Hello,
    Can anyone help me with this issue or maybe point me in the right direction? Thank you!
    Working with in a ASP that uses reader to display forms. The form opens as an embedded adobe form in a new Internet Explorer window. Once the form opens it pulls data from the ASP. At times when the form opens in the new window both the Internet Explorer windows close. Other times a "user request stop" error appears and once OK is pressed both windows close. The ASP does not know what causes this & can not seem to replicate the problem. ASP is on the other side of the country.
    Would the acrotray.exe be causing this?

  • PDFs no longer open in new explorer window...

    Hi,
    I have been using adobe acrobat 6 for a long time.  Up until last week, from a specific web site, I could click on  PDF links and open PDF's in a NEW explorer 8 window by simply clicking on it.
    Starting this past monday, they no longer open in a new window and instead I get an explorer window asking me to  "OPEN" or "SAVE".
    So I figure that an update applied or something either to explorer or Adobe acrobat.  Nope, not that I can see.
    So I do a system restore to prior to when it was working correctly, nope.
    So I tryEVERY single thing, except re-installing I can find on the web, nope.
    This is the one thing about software that really gets me, MAGICAL changes prompted by appearently nothing.
    Does anyone who has had the same prolem have any solution?   Reventing to saving these things to my desktop is not an option.
    Oh, i contacted the site where I get the PDF's from, they said they changed nothing and that my settings must have changed.
    A System restore would take care of any CHANGES so I told them they are crazy.
    Thanks,
    Mark

    Ar,
    I'm only on IE 8, not 9.  What is odd is that I can open some websites pdf's fine, but not others.
    Very weird behaviour.
    thanks,

  • Unable to save document - Read Only or Open by another user error occurs when PDF is opened from Windows Explorer

    Adobe Pro XI  - using Windows 7 Pro OS
    When a PDF document is opened from Windows Explorer, and pages are added, deleted, notations made, any type of changes, it cannot be saved until Windows Explorer is fully closed.  If you try to save the document, you receive the following error - "The document could not be saved.  The file may be read-only, or another user may have it opened.  Please save the document with a different name or in a differnt folder. "   I have confirmed the document is not read only, it is not open by another user, and it is not open multiple times.  Once you fully close Windows Explorer, and try to save the document, it saves without a problem.
    Are there settings in either Adobe Pro XI or Windows that will allow you to save documents without closing Windows Explorer first?
    Thank you for any assistance you can provide.  This error is a frustration since I open all my documents through Windows Explorer.

  • Opening New Window or Explorer

    Hi Everybody,
    My scenario is like this I have one Webdynpro application which contains two Views , First View contains one Link (LinkToAction) when ever I clicks on that link Second View Should open in New Internet Explorer means new Window,
    For this I have created 2 Windows which is having first/second view.
    Following Code is there
          IWDWindowInfo windowInfo = (IWDWindowInfo) wdComponentAPI
               .getComponentInfo().findInWindows("SecondWindow");
               IWDWindow window = wdComponentAPI.getWindowManager().createWindow(windowInfo,true);
               window.setWindowPosition(300, 150);
               window.show();
              //     Save WindowInstance in Context
               wdContext.currentPopupElement().setWindowInstance(window);
    But still its opening same Window or explorer.
    I tried with this method also.
    IWDWindow window = wdComponentAPI.getWindowManager()
    .createModalWindow(windowInfo);
    Still it is not opening New Window.
    Please help me out by opening New Window.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Adam willams,
    FIRST OPTION
    The sample webdynpro url is like this:
    http://<hostname>:<port no>/webdynpro/dispatcher/*******/<Application Name>
    In the above URL, only hostname and portnumber may change if you switch to different server. So, in the code, if we are calling any application using the URL, we need to get the hostname and portnumber dynamically so that, even if we switch to different server our URL will work.
    try {
            InetAddress addr = InetAddress.getLocalHost();
            // Get IP Address
            byte[] ipAddr = addr.getAddress();
            // Get hostname
            String hostname = addr.getHostName();
        } catch (UnknownHostException e) {
    store the host name and portnumber in variables and form the URL
    String URL = "http://"hostname":"port"/webdynpro/dispatcher/....../<YourApplicationName>"
    SECOND OPTION
    Following is the way to do it
    http://localhost:50000/webdynpro/dispatcher/demo.sap.com/firstapp/FirstApp?ToSecondView=yes
    Here the parameter name is ToSecondView and the value for it is yes
    To read this from Webdynpro use
    //value will hold the value yes from the url.
    String value = WDProtocolAdapter.getProtocolAdapter().getRequestObject().getParameter("ToSecondView");
    Now, in the view init() write the above code.
    If value contains yes then you have to navigate to view 2 immediatley. If not be in the same view only.
    Suppose if you access the url directly, you will see the view1.
    If you want to open view2 in the pop up window, call the URL, http://localhost:50000/webdynpro/dispatcher/demo.sap.com/firstapp/FirstApp?ToSecondView=yes.
    In the opened window, it will show view2.
    Regards,
    VJR.

  • Users are not able to save pdfs after editing - Adobe XI. They do not use the Win7 explorer preview pane.  If they completely close the Win7 explorer window, they can save - Adobe XI thinks the preview pane is open when it is not.

    Users are not able to save pdfs after editing.  Product is Adobe XI, OS is Win7 64-bit.  When saving, an error pops up that the file cannot be saved, it is in use.  If they save as a different name, it works.  Found several forums/blogs/etc that suggest the problem can be solved by closing the Window7 explorer preview pane.  They don't use the preview pane.  I figured out that if they completely close the explorer window, they can save.  But this means they have to open and close explorer for each file.

    Hi, I would like to chime in and say that this problem has not yet been resolved. It is extremely annoying when all I do is highlight a document in the file explorer and I get 5 errors (evenly spaced out about 20 seconds apart telling me that "Microsoft
    Word Cannot Start (24)". These errors persist even after windows explorer and word are closed. And I don't want to start terminating processes just to make them stop every time.
    I'm a little frustrated with this problem and the other problems I've encountered with MS Office 2013 with file corruption, crashing, 2010 compatibility issues, and the whole host of errors when trying to actually do WORK with Word.
    I do work with long, complex reports in Word because that's the best way available for myself (and my coworkers) to use. However, I sincerely regret upgrading to Office 2013 because of it. I love it, all of its features, and its interface, but I simply cannot
    use it without problems.
