Opening FCP project causes error

Just got a new macbook and FCP Express, when I try to open project from the desktop by clicking on the project file FCP keeps posting file not found messages, if I open from within the program that's going OPEN then finding the file all is okay and it opens the project, anyone know what this is all about. It never happened on older versions that I used to use.

So what version do you have?
How is the external hard drive formatted?
Have you set the external's permissions to "ignore ownership".

  • Opening 2 projects causes end of FCP session.

I would like to use my 6 TB archive project to import files into another project via browser in FCP into timeline. Working on a new project, deciding to open the archive project causes messages as: *out of memory* and *handler error*, that´s the end of session.
Starting the big archive project first will work fine. WHY ???
I am asking because it is very uncomfortable starting the big archive project each time, not knowing wether I need it or not, cause it takes 9 minutes to start it.
Thanks for trying to understand my problem.

That is a very large project file. Keep in mind that for FCP to be fast and responsive, it must load all the media, every transition and filter and all the sequences into active RAM. I would guess that you've pushed the application to its limit.
Is there any reason for this huge project? Could you break it down into sub-projects? Throw away old and outdated sequences and render files?
If I was in your lederhosen, I'd copy the file a number of times, in a way that made sense to you. Then, in each copy, get rid of things that do not pertain to your chosen "subject." For example, I'd name one sub-project Munich and delete everything that has no relation to Munich. And another "Trip to Brazil" and in that one delete Munich and everything else not related to Brazil.
Does that make sense? It might seem like a good idea to put EVERYTHING in one project file for ease of access, etc-- but if you've pushed the software to the limit, you are gaining exactly nothing.
    Good luck.

  • Sequence markers in FCP multiclip project cause error on send to STP

I have had problems with the procedure "send to soundtrack pro multitrack project" as it concerns a Apple ProRes(HQ) multiclip sequence. The send consistently resulted in an "Error sending selection to Soundtrack Pro" and a "General Error".
From what I can tell, the cause of the problem is the use of "sequence markers" versus "clip markers". This problem can be replicated consistently. The removal of "sequence markers" eliminates the error. There is no problem with the use of clip markers as far as I can see.
I believe this is a bug and perhaps it needs to be looked at since it certainly can stop the successful integration of FCP-7 and STP-3. The manual describes:
Important: Chapter, compression, and scoring markers are used only for sequences. When
you export a QuickTime movie, make sure that these markers have been added to the
sequence itself in the Canvas or in the Timeline ruler, and not to individual clips.
I have submitted a feedback to Apple, but perhaps some other users have some insight to this problem.

The default project for STP is setup correctly to use the Motu. In fact, if I create a default project the Motu works well and I get multiple tracks going to the appropriate 5.1 outputs.
I was able to get the audio to work ONCE and ONLY once by selecting "Undo Base Channel change" (not even sure how this was an option, nothing I selected) and then I had to select the headphone icon on each track to be able to hear it.
So, thinking I had solved this mystery I immediately saved the project. I opened the project up again directly in STP and you guessed it, I don't get any audio again!!! Argh!!!! This time checking/unchecking the headphones icon did nothing.
I'm about ready to toss in the towel on FCP and STP and will start looking for alternatives that have a well integrated package that works with my Motu Ultralite. Any suggestions are welcome for alternatives to FCP and STP.
Motu claim the Ultralite is fully compliant with OSX core audio and don't have any recommendations for FCP send to Multitrack STP issue.
In my efforts I thought I might be able to use Logic Pro but importing video doesn't import the associated audio so I have to export the audio separately -- becomes very worky.
I also tried to Export my sequence to a quicktime movie and then add the movie to STP under a new STP project -- this exhibited the same problem -- no audio.
I just don't know what to try next.
    Rob.

  • Opening FCP project on another Mac.

I made a project using FCP 5.1. on my 24' intel iMac, i did a media manage and moved the project file and all the files to an external hard drive. Now im trying to open the project up on a Mac pro G5, which had FCP 5.0 but i updated it to 5.1, but when i attempt to open the project file i get a "General Error (41)" message. What is happening, why won't it open?

Try opening FCP first and then open up the project directly from FCP's OPEN menu.

  • Can't open fcp project file - fcp not responding

starts to open project but gets to 23% and freezes fcp...project is being stored on a lacie 250gig protable hd with firewire. never had this issue after tons of work. tried going to a autosave version but tried several and they freeze up fcp
any ideas short of moving all the media to another drive and starting a new project (I was just about to start cutting this project today).

    Welcome to the forum!
Post the version of FCP you're running.
Try opening a new project file, then importing the captured clips into it... might fix this... If you trash your preferences for FCP found in the user/library/preferences/FCP User data folder, you can just click on the application and it won't try to open the last project file.
Can you open earlier project files OK?

  • Error message when opening current project/sequence error?

    Hi!
So I'm working with a project, a very simple timeline with vids transcoded to cineform codec. Everything is working beautiful. But every time I open the project to continue working on it, it shows me a strange error message that won't allow me to open my project. Is very stressful. I have to try many times until suddenly it opens the project. I always try to open it from all possible ways (double clicking on the project, from Premiere directly, etc) and is always the same issue. Until after many attempts it decides to open it. Does anyone know what's going on? This is the pop up message:
Thanks so much for the help.

Anyone have any idea how I can open this?
    Thanks,

Duh! Thanks. I should have thought of that, but, freaking out over a large project take precedence......
I lost about an hours worth of work (titles) and am very relieved.

  • Can't open FCP project

    Hi everyone
I encountered a problem with my FCP project and I'm not sure how to fix it.
The current workflow is like this - A project is started on FCP 4.5 and later on brought to FCP 5 for final master to BetaSP. (Reason for doing this is becoz we can only master straight to BetaSP on da FCP 5 suite)
This workflow worked for the previous 4 projects.. but it failed with the current one. The project will open till about 90% and then FCP5 will suddenly quit. The project opens fine on FCP 4.5.
Any ideas on what I can do to save this project?
    Thanks for the help!
    Zee~

one thing you can try is to open the main project in 4.5
duplicate the playout sequence you need to playout
then create a new project and move the duplicated sequence into it
    save and close
then try and open the new project in FCP5 and see if that works for you
if thats a no go, then unmount your media drive
then try again to open the the project in FCP5
if it opens then remount the media drive and reconnect the sequence to the media

  • Opening FCP Project; Superdrive goes crazy

    Hi There
I've been FCP user for 4 years and I really love it as an editing suite, but there is few little problems that really frustrates me.
I've just noticed lately on my MacBook Pro, when opening up a FCP project if I have a DVD / CD in the drive, it starts goiing crazy.
It sounds as if the project is trying to find missing material on the DVD, which in turn makes the motor start churning.
Not only is it an unpleasent sound but it takes forever to open my project.
So far my only solution is to take the DVD out.
If anyone knows of why this is happening, if I can do anything to fix it or is having the same problem please let me know
    Thanks alot
    BluHawk

That's the solution. Don't leave a disc in the drive unless you're planning on using it.

  • Premiere CS6 won't open my project, gives error message.

Premiere CS6 is saying "This project contained a sequence that could not be opened.  No sequence preview preset file or codec could be associated with this sequence type."  The project is all .SWF files and it was working just fine.  It all of a sudden started this.  How do I fix this?

Here is the solution. It appears this a Creative Cloud Issue. Very simple fix:
Solution 1: Deactivate, and then reactivate Adobe Premiere Pro
Launch Adobe Premiere Pro by clicking the application icon. Do not attempt to load a project file.
Choose New Project, then create a project. The settings you choose in this step are not important. Launch Adobe Premiere Pro so that the Help menu is available.
Choose Help > Deactivate. Then on the Deactivate, screen click the Deactivate button.
Launch Adobe Premiere Pro as you did in Step 1.
On the Sign In Required screen, click the Sign in button.
If prompted, sign in with your Adobe ID. The full list of sequence presets is reinitialized.
Open the project the generated the error to ensure that it opens correctly. If you are still unable to open your project, contact Adobe Technical Support.
    To the top
Solution 2: Re-create the Adobe Premiere Pro preferences and plug-in cache
Get ready to press the Alt (Option) + Shift keys simultaneously.
Launch Adobe Premiere Pro by clicking the application icon, and immediately press and hold the Alt (Option) + Shift keys.
Continue to hold the Alt (Option) + Shift keys down until you see the Welcome Screen. Note: If the preferences have been reset successfully, the Recent Projects area of the welcome screen will be blank.

  • General error when opening FCP project file

Hi, I have searched on the forums and found similar questions, but no solution yet.
I created a project about a month ago (FCP 5.0.4) and now I need to make some additions but every time I open the file (or all of the 20 autosaved files) I get a general error message. I tried moving the media files to another folder, but I still get the general error message. I have the project file on my local drive and the scratch disk is a My Book drive (I forgot to reformat the drive so it is still Fat32). I have removed the preferences and ran disk first aid already.
All of my other projects I can open just fine.
Any suggestions? I need to add about 2 more minutes to the project which is already 18min. It took me a week to edit and I really don't want to re-edit everything.
    I am using FCP 5.0.4 on a PB G4 1.5Ghz

I don't quite understand - did you move your project files to a FAT 32 formatted HD?
If so, they're probably cooked . . . (as in wrecked)
Check to see if they're .fcp and if not, try changing one to that, then try to open it.
Search this forum for something like FAT 32 or Mac OS Extended - you may glean more accurate info from that.

    Hai Guise,
came home from college with my final cut pro project file and the rest of the scratch files via my ext HD, plugged it in, tried opening and i got final cut pro error message 41, im guessing its something to do with the version, i tried download the most recent version of the apple website and it says i have it so i guess maybe the college's one is out-of-date?

So what version do you have?

  • Embedding a Captivate 7 SWF into a Captivate 7 project causing error "R6025".

    Good day,
I am wondering if anyone else has encountered this issue and how it was resolved (if at all).
Recently, one of our clients contacted us to request we resend a source file (originally built with Captivate 6) due to perceived file corruption. Upon investigating, the file will open correctly on the PC used to develop the slide initially (using Captivate 6), but will crash and cause an error when Captivate 7 attempts to open the file (tested on multiple systems).
The problem file(s) are a parent single slide Captivate project which contains a single slide quiz (which is published out as a SWF and embedded in the parent).
To resolve the issue we figured that recreating both slides in Captivate 7 would be easiest solution. After recreating both from scratch, the same issue occurs. The project can be opened without issue on the development PC with Captivate 7, yet crashes when any other PC with Captivate 7 attempts to open the source file.
Here is a screen cap of the error message which pops-up during the Captivate 7 crash.
Anyone have any ideas how to resolve this issue?
    Cheers and thanks,
    Patrick

    Hi Lilybiri,
Yes, this slide has an CP-Published SWF in the CP-file. This procedure was used on multiple projects without issue. It only appears to have become an issue when Captivate 7 is introduced.
With respect to not having all of the slides in a single project; this has to do with the design of our client's product and the requirement to have every slide be its own project file. We have discussed the merits of not using this approach, but they expressed a reluctance to change the approach (there are internal aspects of their organization at play which we are not privy to).
I am guessing the best bet will be to re-design the approach on this particular problem slide then?
    Cheers,
    Patrick

  • Open FCP projects in FCE?

I have Final Cut Pro 4.5 that I have been running for a few years now on an eMac G4. I just purchased a new iMac and after installing all of my software, I find I cannot run FCP 4.5 on the new Mac due to graphics card incompatibility.
So I just spent $1300 on a new computer and was hoping I could hold off on major software upgrades until next year seeing as how FCP 4.5 was no small investment in itself. Plus I bought my iMac a month and a half before Leopard came out so I just spent another $130 on that.
My question is: If I purchase Final Cut Express, can I open my FCP 4.5 project files in FCExpress? I am primarily an animator (After Effects, Cinema 4D) so the video editing I do is pretty basic. None of my projects use LiveType or any other FCP 'side-programs.'
Would FCExpress be an economical option to save my FCP4.5 project files or am I screwed?
And why doesn't Apple sell a stand-alone FCP (with possibly Compressor)?
    Thanks for any help...

I had the same error running an old version of FCE on an Intel iMac because it said I needed an AGP graphics card. This worked for me:
    1. Right click on the Final Cut Pro icon (in finder) and select "Show Package Contents".
    2. Open the "Contents" folder and double click the "info .plist". It should open automatically in TextEdit - if it doesn't, choose TextEdit manually.
    3. Around 15 or so lines down you will see AGP. Delete it and put in PCI.
    4. Close the window and when asked if you want to save the changes, say yes.
I hope that works for you. I was very happy when I found this solution.

  • Error message while opening a project: "an error was encountered while loading the image"

We've run into a new error message here today:
an error was encountered while loading the image
It appears when we try to load a recorded project. It occurs on both the cp-file and the backup file.
    It's on a windows 7-machine.
Anyone encountered it and knows what it means?
    is the project lost forever?

    Hi there
Hmmm, it may be related to Windows 7, but let's check the obvious stuff first.
Where exactly is th project if you locate it using Windows Explorer? Is it found on your local C drive or is it found on a network drive?
If it's on a network drive, please note that Captivate has never worked well with projects being edited while they are on network resources. So the first step in this case (assuming that's where the project is) would be to move the project file off the network and onto the local C drive. Then try opening again.
Assuming the project isn't on a network, all still may not be lost. The next thing to try would be to create a new blank project sized identically to the one that seems to have gone south. Then click File > Import > Slides/Objects and see if you can import the content from the errant project into the new.
And if those steps fail, it's likely time to restart from scratch. But depending on what you have done so far and how you have done it, you might be able to salvage some of it by playing back the content (assuming you have published it during testing) and record what you are playing back with Captivate.
Best of luck to you in sorting things. You should also consider filing a Bug Report.
    Cheers... Rick
