Opening FH MX files placed on a Windows server

Mac OS 10.4.7
When opening FH files which placed on my computer, the next
time I choose “open” the dialog will open in the last
folder I used.
But if the files saved on the Server it doesn’t work.
The “open” dialog will go to the Desktop. Any Idea how
to fix it?
(On OS 9 there use to be “last folder used by the
application” in the control panel, how it’s work under
OS X?)

Hi Lynette!
You apparently have Macs using a combination of AFP (using the Windows Server's File Services for Macintosh) and SMB (using the Windows Server's Windows file sharing) connecting to your server.
The Network Trash folders are part of the File Services for Macintosh and are in use by the Windows system. You shouldn't delete these yourself unless you know you've disabled File Services for Macintosh.
And while they can be annoying to Windows users, the "._filename" files are useful to your Mac OS X machines connecting to the server using its Windows file sharing. Do you have a specific reason you want to delete these files? If you don't have hidden files showing then how to do you see them and why do you want to delete them?

  • Can't open office files located on a windows server fileshare

Hi TechNet / Office for Mac Community,
re: can't open MS Office files located on a windows server file share
Is anyone else experiencing this issue and/or have a fix?
    Details:
    Clients: Mac OS X 10.6 / 10.7 / 10.8 / 10.9
File share: Windows Server 2008 R2
    Connecting via SMB or CIFS
    Problem:
When mounting the Windows Server file share, Mac clients are unable to open MS Office 2011 files (not just powerpoint) from that location.
Error message: "there was an error accessing /Volumes/data/folder/presentation.pptx"
There is no issue creating or deleting MS Office files from that location.
The Mac 'Preview' application is able to open the same MS Office file without issues.
The file is not corrupted and can be opened when copied to the desktop.
Windows clients have no problem opening the file.
Only this particular file share is having an issue.
Are there any known issues or requirements for Windows Server file shares and MS Office 2011 that would apply to this problem?
    Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

How do I make a button open a swf file in a seperate window

well you can publish the the other FLA, which would give you
an HTML file, upload that and the SWF then link to the SWFs' HTML

  • Domain Users To be Given IPads thats will File Sync to a Windows Server in the Company DMZ. Are CALS needed for the ipads ?

    Hi Guys.
We are thinking on giving some Sales Staff some IPADs to use. All these staff currently have USER CALS.
We are going to be using some software called MobileEcho to allow for browsing and File Syncing from a Windows Server in a DMZ. This Server itself maybe doing some LDAP queries to the LAN.  Also some users maybe putting new content onto this Server
from the LAN. Are any seperate Device CALS needed for this Server ?
    thanks

if the user is assigned a User CAL, no device CAL is needed.
That's the main reason why you would buy User CALs, where there is more than 1 device for each user (or more devices than users, in general)

  • I can't open a pdf file in a browser window. I have to save it before I can open it. Why can't I open the file without first having to save it?

Anytime that I click on a pdf file in a browser window, the file will not open automatically. I am forced to save it on my computer first and then access the file. When I click on it after it is saved locally, it opens as it should.

If you are not able to get Adobe Acrobat Reader to open .pdf files in the browser. Even after you check in prefs to show pdf files in the browser.
Make this modification for all versions of Adobe Acrobat Reader that show under this key.
-Note: Deleting the key and all subkeys for any older versions also seems to fix this problem. So if you see this key present,
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\7.0\Originals
delete the 7.0 and all subkeys.
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Adobe\Acrobat Reader\9.0\Originals

  • Open InDesign CS4 files in CS4 in Windows 7

    Hi!
I want to open InDesign CS4 files in in InDesign CS4 but it opens with InDesign CS3. What can I do?
I also tried 'open with' by right clicking and select a default program but that didn't work for me. I also downloaded registry files from 'Windows 7 forum' to restore registry settings of 'open with', even that didn't work.
How can I manually change registry settings to open ID CS4 files in IDCS4?
    Please help me!
I'm weird of manually dragging and droping inDesing files to inDesign program window.
Should I uninstall IDCS3 and reinstall it?
    Thanks.

Did you install CS3 after CS4?

  • File systems available on Windows Server 2012 R2?

What are the supported file systems in Windows Server 2012 R2? I mean the complete list. I know you can create, read and write on Fat32, NTFS and ReFS. What about non-Microsoft file systems, like EXT4 or HFS+? If I create a VM with a Linux OS, will
I be able to acces the virtual hard disk natively from WS 2012 R2, or will I need a third party tool, like the one from Paragon? If I have a drive formated in EXT4 or HFS+, will I be able to acces it from Windows, without any third party tool? Acces it,
I mean both read and write on them. I know that on the client OS, Windows 8.1, this is not possible natively, this is why I am asking here, I guess it is very possible for the server OS to have build-in support for accesing thoose file systems. If Hyper-V
has been optimised to run not just Windows VMs, but also Linux VMs, it would make sense to me that file systems like thoose from Linux or OS X to be available using a build-in feature. I have tried to mount the vhd from a Linux VM I have created in HyperV,
Windows Explorer could not read the hard drive.

Installed Paragon ExtFS free. With it loaded, tried to mount on Windows Explorer a ext4 formated vhd, created on a Linux Hyper-V vm, it failed, and Paragon ExtFS crashed. Uninstalled Paragon ExtFS. The free version was not supported on WS 2012 R2
by Paragon, if Windows has no build-in support for ext4, this means this free software has not messed around anything in the OS, I guess.
Don't mess with third-party kernel-mode file systems as it's basically begging for troubles: crash inside them will make whole system BSOD and third-party FS are typically buggy... Because a) FS development for Windows is VERY complex and b) there are very
few external adopters so not that many people actually theist them. What you can do however:
    1) Spawn an OS with a supported FS inside VM and configure loopback connectivity (even over SMB) with your host. So you'll read and write your volume inside a VM and copy content to / from host.
(I personally use this approach in a reversed direction, my primary OS is MacOS X but I read/write NTFS-formatted disks from inside a Windows 7 VM I run on VMware Fusion)
    2) Use user-mode file system explorer (see sample links below, I'm NOT affiliated with that companie). So you'll copy content from the volume as it would be some sort of a shell extension.
Crashes in 1) and 2) would not touch your whole OS stability.

    Ext2Read

(both are user-land applications for HFS(+) and EXT2/3/4 accordingly)
    Hope this helped :)

  • Not seeing all the files on a shared Windows server??

I'm using a Windows Server 2003 to share files between Macintosh an Windows users. But sometimes the Mac users (10.4) don't see all the files (in the same folder) that the Windows users do! I've checked on the server and I don't see any (obvious) permission problem ... So why aren't all the files displayed???
    Any help is greatly appreciated!
    Jerome

Hello Herr Jerome, I have the same problem, here in our company. We have around 70 employees connected to a windows server network. There are 68 PCs and 2 macs, one of which is mine. We have a special directory on the server called macdata, but other users place their files in their own respective directories, to which we normally have access.
Since yesterday, if anyone else places files from PC on to the server for me, I cant see them. I can see all other files but not the ones copied since yesterday. Our support guys have tried pretty much everything including resetting permissions, to no avial. finally they received an error message: Caution older mac systems will have problems reading more than 65000 (plus a few files). But there are in advance of 100 000 files on our server, but the extra 35 000 wernt put on there just yesterday.I´m running Macosx 10.4.11 which is by no means an old system.
I´ve spent the day hunting the Internet for a solution, but Info on this subject seem to be scarce! I mean this is a very big problem in a business environment, our IS dept has been trying to scrap the macs for years and I´ve been working here on a mac and fighting for 15 years. So now our IS has at last a valid reason for switching us to PCs.
I don´t understand Apple not publishing these limitions in a prominent spot on their website, not to mention a solution because it´s a crucial limitation, people should know about. Apple truely is not interested in corporate, nor in its truly loyal champions bravely fighting aganst the PC onslaught

  • How to backup Mac server files and restore to Windows server?

Our company is moving from Mac Server to Windows Server 2008 R2.
I'd like to connect a hard drive to the Mac server (via existing eSATA) and backup our data (just file level backup is fine, don't need permissions or security) and then move hard drive to new Windows 2008 R2 server and restore files.
Does anyone have any cross-platform backup/restore software they can recommend?
We have about 500GB of data, so I prefer a locally connected device to backup to instead of over-the-network backup.
    Thank you for your ideas!

As standard the Mac cannot write to NTFS format disks, and as standard Windows cannot read from HFS+ disks. FAT32 might be a possibility but it does not support files bigger than 4GB.
The simplest if slower option is to do it over the network using SMB. If you do really want to do it with a hard disk then you may need to consider getting some software to let either Mac or Windows deal with the others preferred hard disk format.
To let the Mac write to NTFS there are several choices but the one I have used in the past is NTFS for Mac by Paragon, see http://www.paragon-software.com/home/ntfs-mac/
To let Windows read from HFS again the are multiple possible choices but the one I have used in the past and still use is MacDrive, see http://www.mediafour.com/products/macdrive

PiAny directory path which you can access from the OS can be accessed in Java, so if \\[machine name]... is accessible, yes. However, that speaks nothing of the design of your app, which may be on the 'wonky' side.

  • Restore bkf Backup Files on Tape with Windows Server 2008 R2

We have to migrate an application from a legacy server (OS Windows Server 2003) to a new server (OS Windows Server 2008 R2).
Due to legal obligations we have to keep backups for 10 years. Until now NTBACKUP was used to store the data on tape.
We must be able to restore data from tapes of the last 10 years for audit purposes.
We installed Update für Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 Edition (KB974674) containing NTBackup-RestoreUtility on the new server.
It seems that this tool is not able to restore from tapes.
How can we fullfil the legal requirements to restore backuped data from tape on Windows Server 8 R2 (and in future with Windows Server 2012 R2)?

How do you have a pdf file open up in a new window in

If you are coding a page with a HTML Transitional doctype,
    you can link to
