Opening File in Illustrator CC

I just started using the CC version of the design products this weekend, and yesterday I spent all day working on a design in Illustrator. Today if I try to open it, Illlustrator just hangs - and eventually I have to force quit. I get no error messages at all.
I can open the file in my old version, CS5.1, but it is kind of screwed up there. And really, I shoudl be able to open it where I created it.
This is not a particularly large or complicated file.
What do i do?

As I said, no error messages. I saved the file on my desktop.
I ended up uninstalling and reinstalling the application, and now I can open the file again. Hopefully that won't be something I end up having to do often, because it takes forEVER.

Opening files with Illustrator and photoshop doesn't work, i have to drag the files from finder in to the program.
This problem appears after opening 4 a 5 files, rebooting helps another 4 a 5 times and appears again.

I'd recommend reposting in the Boot Camp forum, that is where the Boot Camp and Windows gurus hang out.
    Good luck.

  • Can't open files in Illustrator CS

    Hi There,
I've trawled through quite a few discussion boards before posting, but I'm stumped.
I'm using Illustrator CS, the original version which has been great for over 4-5 years. Now I find that I cannot open a file in CS when using <open> from the menu bar.
Usually we get the finder window to select the documents, but the programe quits even before it gets to this stage.
I added an account and tried to open files in Illustrator but this problem happened again.
I can double click an Ai file from the finder window...this launches Illustrator and opens the file ok. I also tried to create a new document which would not save at all.
I have the crash report from Illustrator, just wondering if someone could have a look and see if they can work it out.
    Thanks So Much
    Kitty

I had this same problem after a recent security update to OS X 10.6.8.  Today, running Software Update, I apparently got a newer version of the security update and it solved my file opening problem.

  • Cannot open files in illustrator - no error message, just the spinning wheel endlessly rotating!

I worked on lots of very simple illustrator files yesterday and saved them all as .ai files. Today, I started up my mac and I cannot open a single file that I worked on yesterday. I don't get any error messages, the coloured wheel just spins endlessly and the files don't open, or with some files the artwork opens up so I can see it but the wheel is still spinning so I can't actually do anything. Even if I leave it, for up to an hour, the wheel doesn't stop. I have been able to open files that were not worked on yesterday, no problem.
I have shut down and re-started the computer 4 times now, but it hasn't improved the situation.
Does anyone know what is wrong?
    Thanks

You may be linked to an image (of auto opening font)that went corrupt, is there a comon image between them. If so put that image temporarily in a folder to break the link.
Try making a new user account, or opening on another computer if you can. How do the file size look on the document, are the the size they are supposed to be?
Try resettting your preferences. Cmd-Opt-Ctrl-Shift when restarting AI on a Mac or Alt-Crtl-Shift on a PC to reset to the defaults.
Is the problem definitely associated to them being on the same date, or is the similarity possibly a job with similar fonts/images?

  • Can't open files within illustrator

I recently upgraded to OSX Yosemite and recently I haven't been able to open any documents/files within illustrator (only from the launch screen). Both cntrl+O and file>open will not allow me to open any files within illustrator. Every time i need to access an existing file I have to quit and launch illustrator again. This is horribly frustrating as I need to juggle between client work. I rebooted my computer and this didn't resolve the issue. Please help or fix this issue.

Did you reinstall all of your Adobe apps after the upgrade to 10.10? Adobe products don't do well with migration but want a reinstall.
Did you mean Cmd-Open. Ctrl is for Windows

  • Opening file in Illustrator prompts "Text Import Options" and does not open file correctly.

I've been dealing with this issue for quite a while and I am thoroughly stumped. A co-worker has emailed me .ai files in the past without issue. In the last couple months, however, her attached .ai files no longer open properly.
This is the first screen I get when trying to open the files:
Regardless of what checkboxes are marked or options changed, the outcome is always the same:
If you can't read that, the error code is as follows:
    {"Body":{"ErrorCode":500,"FaultMessage":"Unable to get write stream for mac attachment.","IsTransient":false}}
Putting this line of code into Google returns exactly "0" finds.
Nobody else in the company seems to have an issue with opening the same file when this co-worker forwards it to them. I did notice, however, that the file is 141 kb within her email, but when I download it, it shrinks to 344 bytes. I don't know if for whatever reason my computer is just not downloading all of the information or what might be going on.
To reiterate, these are the facts that I know:
    1. She is on a mac and I am on a PC.
    2. We are both using Illustrator CS6.
    3. Other co-workers on PCs do not have this problem when she emails it to them.
    4. The file shrinks from 141 kb to 344 bytes when I try to download it from her email.
Edit: I just had her send the email to my personal gmail account and the file opened perfectly, so this appears to be an issue with office365.com which is where my business email is located. Everyone else here uses the same email service, however, so this is still an isolated issue with my account.
Any help or ideas would be very much appreciated.
    Thank you!

Thank you for the reply. We went through a lot of different ideas to try and fix this, but zipping the file never even crossed our minds for some reason... :\

  • Can't open files in Illustrator when the mouse is attached. Please help.

    Cheers

No there are no extra plug ins.
Its not the track pad. It's the quick keys and the open option in the tool bar.
Only have basic mouse options - which didn't work.
What is the PRAM? That could work!
When i quit Illustrator and open again i can open a few files, say 4 or 5 and then it stops letting me opening them.
    Cheers

    Hi,
Please download and install Creative cloud desktop app from the link below that will fix the issue with Adobe Application Manager,
    https://creative.adobe.com/products/creative-cloud
Once you have this installed please install the latest version of premiere pro that premiere pro 2014.1(8.1).
Now try to open the project.
    Hope that helps.
    Thank you,

  • Problems opening files via 'File - Open/cmd-O' in Photoshop CC 2014 after Yosemite installation

I upgraded to Yosemite on Friday and shortly after, I noticed that when attempting to open multiple files, after I've opened a few files (it's not a set amount, sometimes happens on the 3rd file, sometimes on the 6th etc) I get the error message 'could not complete your request because of a program error' - the only way out of this is to quit Photoshop and restart which is obviously very frustrating and time consuming!
I spent some time on live chat to Adobe yesterday and we deleted settings, preferences, uninstalled, reinstalled, moved Colour settings folder to desktop but nothing worked. I have a call scheduled with Adobe to go through lots more tests at the end of the week as I've been advised this isn't a global issue but I thought I'd post on here in the meantime to see if anybody had any thoughts as to what could be causing this. After speaking to Adobe, I have since realised that even after getting this error message, I can still drag files to the PS icon and open them that way - I have just opened 20 files this way with no error message, it's just when I used the File-open/cmd O method (my usual way of working) to open files that is happens.
It was all fine before installing Yosemite and I am on the very latest CC 2014 version (this problem does not happen in the CC version incidentally, only the 2014 version - so I'm using that as a workaround for now).
I also had issues opening files in Illustrator on Friday, I was unable to open files using file - open/cmd O (nothing happened after I clicked it, but I got no error message), again, I had to drag the file to the AI icon in the dock to open it but that seems to be ok now even though I haven't changed anything with the Illustrator application - just thought I'd mention it incase it was related!
If anybody can help, I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

    Glad it's not just me!
Interestingly, when I spoke with Apple, I tried it in a new user account and the problem went away. Apple said to speak to Adobe which I have done and after deleting settings/prefs again the problem remained. Adobe say as it's fine in a new account then it's an Apple issue not Adobe.
I did find a workaround for now though, when using file - open, set it to list view instead of column view - this fixed my problem but sadly I'm used to working in column view so it's not ideal!
I also got the same error message when trying to replace a set of brushes yesterday too. I need to go back to Apple now but just need to schedule some time to sit and troubleshoot!

  • Adobe Bridge CC associates Ai files with Illustrator CS 5.5

Does anyone know how to get Bridge CC to open files in Illustrator CC and not trying to open them in Illustrator CS 5.5.
I haven't got CS 5.5 so i get an error every time i try to open Ai files from Bridge CC. have tried the "File Type Association",
but Ai files is not present in the list.

Can you provide more details about system and resources?
Did you ever use a trial version of CS5.5 (has to otherwise you should not have this option)
In CC as in all other versions of Bridge there should be a file type association for Illustrator (.ai, .ait) present in this list. If this is not the case and you have Illustrator CC installed and working on your system then something might be very wrong with your install of Bridge.

  • Illustrator no longer opens files or saves changes w/ Mac

Since I downloaded a new Security Update (Snow Leapord 10.6.8) I can no longer open new files in Illustrator.  Also when I open old files they will no longer save to PDF.  Anybody else see this issue?
    thanks

Which version of Illustrator are you using?

  • I can't open an .ai file in Illustrator without a dialog box appearing "Open PDF."  I have no idea what I can't open it as an Illustrator file (and not a PDF)

Once I open a page as a PDF, all my layer info is lost.  I've tried opening it on two machines and the dialog box continues to appear.  Again, it's not a PDF extension.
    Thanks for the help!

Since you're sure you saved it back to CS5, the issue might have been caused by saving directly to the server. Illustrator does not particularly like that.
90% of corrupt files are caused by saving directly to the server.
You might try and first copy the file to your harddisk and then open it from there. Opening files directly from the server is an issue as well.
