  • Cannot open a db file larger than 2GB

    Hello,
I have an Oracle Express Edition 10g running on Redhat Enterprise Linux 4 server.
I have an Oracle database file which is 2.1 GB in size. I am not able to open this file using the application or the Oracle sql developer. The error message that I get is:
    ORA-01110: data file 5: '/usr/lib/oracle/xe/oradata/XE/service_3_0.dbf'
    ORA-27041: unable to open file
    Linux Error: 13: Permission denied
I think this has to do with the fact that since it is not a 64-bit Linux but a 32-bit Linux, it does not support files larger than 2GB. What do you think I should do to tackle this problem?

ThayalanThat's interesting! I had no problems with opening files 32767MB in size on the very same 32 bit RH EL 4.0. How did you conclude that your file is too large, based on the error message which reads "Linux Error: 13: Permission denied"? Have you tried reading the manual page for the "open" system call and see when does it return EACCESS (error 13), found in /usr/include/asm-i386/errno.h. My man page for open says the following:
    ERRORS
EACCES The requested access to the file is not allowed, or search per-
mission is denied for one of the directories in the path prefix
of pathname, or the file did not exist yet and write access to
the parent directory is not allowed. (See also path_resolution(7).)
What lead you to the conclusion that your file is too big? Do you have an access to a system administrator who knows how to use "strace"? If your system admin doesn't know how to use "strace", he too deserves waterboarding.

  • Can't display PDF file larger than 2Mb

Would like to ask if someone knows that any setting that would allow the PDF file larger than 2Mb be displayed within web browser IE 7, for some strange reasons, the PDF file will stop download at arround 800 some Kb, and I waited for almost 15 minutes with no further action.
Back ground info:- MS Vista Home Premium SP1, 2G RAM, over 60G available HDD space, IE Temp file size set to 100M
    Appreciated for any help

Mike I have a similar problem with down loading PDF files larger that 3MB. I have three computers with Win XP, IE7 and 56K connection. I have tried to down load three different PDF files from the same source - 1.3MB 2.3MB and 5.3MB. The Computer with Reader 7.0 downloads and opens all files. The computers with Reader 8.1.2 and 9.0 downloads and opens the smaller files but stop at 3.2 MB on the larger file with an error message "The file is damaged and could not be repaired".
As fixes to the problem I have tried turning off any accelerators, installing and using Monzilla foxfire (then removed it since I had the same problem), increasing the cash size from 250MB to 1GB, Saving the file to the desktop rather than opening the file. I have not found useful help in Adobe Reader knowledge base.
    Any suggestions?

  • PS Touch needs a warning message when importing files larger than 2048x2048 max resolution

I opened 6500x5000 px files into PS Touch in iPad for some minor retouching. PS Touch - without notification - reduced the images to fit within 2048 x 2048 px. It happily let me open these files, work on them and save and never let me know it was reducing the file size, rendering all the work I did utterly useless since 2048x2048 is far too small for print res for these files.
PS Touch needs a notification or warning when importing files larger than the app's max resolution. Resizing files without notification is just asinine.

  • How can I get the "Open" and "Save As" dialog boxes to open at larger than their default size?

How can I get the "Open" and "Save As" dialog boxes to open at larger than their default size?  I would like them to open at the size they were previously resized like they used to in previous operating systems.  They currently open at a very small size and the first colum is only a few letters wide necessitating a resize practically every time one wants to use it.  Any help would be appreciated.

  • Large file handling tips Help for illustrator file larger than 3 gb

Can anyone provide advice for large file handling tips.  Help for illustrator file larger than 3 gb ie how often, when, and should I clear the clipboard? are here other tips?
    Thanks,

My key tip is to EXPECT corruption. Keep every save separately so you can go back before damage (which might not be visible). Don't just keep a single old file or rely on daily backups.

how do i get files larger than 2 gigs on a usb drive and still be able to use on a mac and pc?

You can format the drive using ExFAT or you can format the drive NTFS then use third-party software on the Mac to enable writing to it: NTFS 11.2.443.

Seems like a permissions error to me... maybe check the actual file it is attempting to scan... I know it is in your home folder, but just to be sure, you might want to check that everything is sane.

  • Aperture exports jpeg files larger than original RAW files

Can anyone tell me why a RAW file (10.6mb), when exported as a jpeg (10.8mb) from Aperture ends up larger than the original RAW file. The same RAW file when opened and then saved as a jpeg (6.4mb) in Photoshop is a lot smaller. The photo dimensions and resolution are the same in both saved files (34.5mb open file 300dpi 4256 x 2831 pix). I have tried this on several photos, all with similar results. For information I am saving the photos in both Photoshop and Aperture at 300dpi, original size and at a quality setting of 12. In these examples/tests I have done no work to the photos, obviously the file sizes increase after work has been carried out on the photos (in both Ps & Aperture)
Almost doubling the size of saved jpegs has a massive implication on my library and may be one reason to consider Adobe Lightroom as this gives similar jpeg file sizes as Photoshop, i.e. almost half the size of the original RAW file
Reducing the quality setting on saved jpegs is an obvious way to reduce file size, but not answering the question of the considerable discrepancy when saving to the same quality in different software
Is this a feature of Aperture and nothing can be done about it ? I would prefer to use Aperture but cannot cope with the large jpeg sizes !
Any comments would be much appreciated - thank you
    Nick

Think you might be right Allen - The 12 quality saved jpegs seem to be pretty high quality, closer to the original than maybe the files saved in Ps at quality 12. I have just run an identical set of processing actions on all the files in Photoshop and the jpegs previously saved in Aperture at 12, 11 and even 8 quality settings seem to be better than the same files saved at 12 in Ps
Bizarrely the file size drops from 10.6mb at quality setting 12 in Aperture, to 3.2mb when saved just one notch down at quality setting 11 in Aperture. That is a massive drop, esp considering the next one down, saving at quality 10 results in a 2.8mb file
rw just ran some checks and tests on the file export settings and file sizes in Aperture, on a file I sent him, and we get the same results. So at least my version of Aperture is not up the wall !!
Would be useful to have the explanations from Apple as to the vast variance in settings and file sizes, but I guess we will just have to keep guessing - and buying more and more hard drives for all the large files
I am considering keeping the RAW originals in future, and I suppose in this case I need only save smaller jpegs, and issue at whatever size they are needed at the time - just needs a bit of planning to look after an ever increasing collection, which is about to have two sets of images added at a time now. Added to the already amassed 80 000 images at last count !)
    Thanks

  • Lightroom saves PSD files larger than needed ? ?

Keep in mind that I am fitting into a large corperate work flow so certain things can not be changed.  Any hep much apreciated!!
    Software:
    LR5
    PS CC
Work flow and how problem presents it self:
-A Jpeg is supplied to be clearcut
    -Jpeg is imported into LR
    - "edit in CS5"
    - Exported as a Photoshop copy (flattend and one layer needed for output)
              - 8 bit
    - File size is 35MB
    - Open in PS do NOTHING but save as (do not change image size / resolution / etc)
    - File size is now 22MB
Why is the LR version of the file larger?  How can I change this?
This Seems trivial but due to the way files are shared etc we are VERY consiouse of file size.
We cant use TIFF, PNG, DNG etc due to problems with different versions of software etc
    Thanks all

    Hi 99 Jon,
    Thanks for the input.
I would call my self a advanced LR user,  and know the workflow and ins and outs of LR catalogs very well.  though
I just did a quick test to count out what you have sugested though.
1)Start with a PSD that has been imported into LR
    2) Export it as a PSD copy and DO NOT add it back to the catalog on export
    3) Export a second copy of the file and DO add it back into the catalog on export
    4) Check the file sizes  -  both files are exactly the same size  (43MB)
This would show that having it as part of a catalog does not effect the file size
              . . . . ..  but just to check . . . .
    5) Open both files in PS and save as WITHG EXACTLY THE SAME SETTINGS USED ON EXPORT
    6) check file size (both are now 23.3MB)
    7) Import both of these files into a catalog and add meta data etc
    8) Check files size (both still 23.3MB
So I would say that fairly well proves that it is not a catalog/meta data issue.
    But to add to that . . . .
When have you EVER seen a xmp / side car file that is anywhere near 20mb? ? ? ?
Thanks a bunch for the idea though!  I thought you were onto something for a while there hahahaah

  • Easiest way to transfer files larger than 4gb between mac and windows?

I just borrowed a windows laptop and formatted an external USB drive FAT32 and am able to transfer files from my Tiger OS Mac and the Windows 7 computer..but now I discover the maximum file size is 4GB. How could I transfer files (usually video) larger than that? Thanks for any help.

Set up a network and file sharing, or format the drive to Mac OS Extended and install the MacDrive trial on the PC, or format the drive to NTFS and install the NTFS-3G drivers on the Mac.

    Hello Chriowen
    Welcome to the Community
Please make sure you have a strong and consistent coverage for you to be able to download large files completely. I would suggest connecting to a WiFi network because 2G mobile data coverage is not really adviseable for downloading. Or probably use a PC instead.

  • Why can't I open excel files larger than 500 kb?

Seems as though Excel files (.xlsx format) smaller than 500 KB's that are sent via email open just fine, but anything larger will not open. I'm not sure if this is a Numbers issue or an issue with the Mail app. Started happening ever since the iOS 7.1 update as well as a recent Numbers update (not sure what version of Numbers I was using before).

I will have this moved to the Numbers for iOS forum since your question seems to be about opening Excel files in Numbers on an iPad.
