Opening files in new window

I'm using Captivate 2 and have linked some Excel files to my
published movies. The published movies and the Excel files are on
my Web server in the same directory, but users are having the
following problems:
The Excel file does not open and the
user gets a "page not found" error -- I experienced this myself
with WinXP SP 2, but if I pressed Control and clicked the button to
open the file, it opens sometimes. Other Win XP SP2 users report
that Ctrl + Click does not work for them.
With Windows 2000, the Excel file
opens, but takes 5-10 minutes to open - none of the files are very
large and I am using a high-speed connection
Does anyone have any suggestions for resolving this?

issue still not solved,
ps if you click on a pdf on the above link do you get the same problem or is it just me..?

  • Interactive PDF, open file in new window.

    Hello everyone,
    I was unable to find this on the net or I could be using the wrong typed search. Created a successful interactive document. I attached a portfolio to this interactive document. I have 3 images. Two are hyperlinked to specific urls which work just fine. I have a sample button which opens the pdf. The only problem I have is that the pdf open in the current pdf window of the past file, so one has to reopen the original file again to access it. I could create a button on the portfolio webpage to go back to the original document, but that would be 20 buttons.
    Is there a way for someone to click on the sample button, but open up a new window like you would for a webpage?
    Right now the setup in the Buttons and Forms window:
    Sample button
    Type: button
    Name: Sample
    Event: On Release or Tap
    Open File - Checked
    Select File: current path
    PDF Options
    Description: Portfolio Samples
    Printable - Checked.
    That is pretty much it.

    Not everything can be done in InDesign when it comes to interactivity and forms. I believe you have to use a JavaScript in Acrobat to get the file to open in a new window. I can't provide you a specific reference. Ask on the Acrobat forums.

  • InDesign Button Action for PDF – Open File (in new window)

    I am using the 'Open File' action on buttons in a document i am making which will eventually be a PDF, but am wanting to specify the button action to open the file (another PDF) in a new window.
    I have found that I can achieve this and add button actions with this specific behavior in Acrobat, but it seems to be missing in indesign's abilities as far as I can see. Is there a way to do this in indesign so that i do not have to tinker in acrobat after I have made my PDF. As if I have changes to the PDF, all buttons then have to be totally re-done each time, and i will have possibly 900 buttons!!
    Thanks.
    (Using indesign CS4)

    Jeff,
    You are correct. I want to have a DVD with multiple PDFs. The main one almost acting as a table of contents for the rest.
    Problem = the 'main one' is 62 pages long, many hundred buttons and every page has at least a few of these links needed.
    Which means, if you are correct (and I believe you are, hope you aren't) that I need to custom code these buttons in Acrobat.
    The method is easy, but x300 = painful. And then the kicker... Boss says, 'Change slide 30' ... which means: Back to InDesign, Export to PDF, Recode ALL BUTTONS.
    *Note, there are some 'interactive' buttons with roll over states. So I don't think replacing the pages would work.

  • Opening file in new window

    I have a page that shows files.  They include video, music, and documents.  When one is clicked on, it goes to a certain page that is just for that type of file.  The only problem I have is getting the source.  I was thinking about using a session, but was not sure how I could do that.  Could I also use get to get the file name in my URL?
    Thanks.

    the only thing is, i would prefer to preserve the uploaded file name.  Is there any way to remove the characters, yet show it with spaces/characters?
    Use str_replace() to replace spaces with an underscore when storing the filename. Then use str_replace() to replace the underscores with spaces when displaying the names.
    // when storing
    $file = str_replace(' ', '_', $original);
    // when displaying
    echo str_replace('_', ' ', $file);

  • Links to files doesn't open in a new window

    I've noticed that links (that refers to a specific file) created in Adobe Indesign doesn't open in a new window like the links that refers to a website when I autoconverts it in Acrobat Pro X.
    Example:
    LINK1: http://www.acrobat.com/testfile.pdf <--- does not open in a new window when clicked
    LINK2: http://www.acrobat.com/testfolder <--- opens in a new window when clicked
    Are there any way to fix this?
    Will the same problem occur if I create the links in Acrobat instead?
    I'm asking this because I don't want the form to disappear when the links are clicked.
    Best,
    Mikey

    Firefox should divert the new window to a new tab when you check this box in Google's Search Settings:
    "Open search results in a new browser window"
    I can't think of any reason for Firefox to divert a new window back into ''the same tab''.
    In case one of your add-ons is the culprit, could you try Firefox's Safe Mode?
    First, I recommend backing up your Firefox settings in case something goes wrong. See [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information]. (You can copy your entire Firefox profile folder somewhere outside of the Mozilla folder.)
    Next, restart Firefox using Help>Restart with Add-ons Disabled. Don't check any of the boxes in the [https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Safe+Mode Safe Mode] dialog, just Continue in Safe Mode.
    Does it make any difference?

  • How to open PDF file in new window as default

    I have .pdf documents into which I have inserted links to other .pdf documents using pdfEdit995
    (I am a 77-year-old pensioner recording monumental inscriptions, not very computer literate and not able to afford expensive applications !)
    The links in the temp.ps file (which pdf995 creates first) look like :-
    [ /Rect [85 225 107 228]
    /Border [ 0 0 0 ]
    /Action /Launch /File (.\\Another Folder\\TARGET FILE.PDF)
    /Subtype /Link
    /ANN pdfmark
    The links work fine, but open in the same window, which is annoying as it is then neccessry to re-open the original document, scroll down to the required page and find the next link.
    pdf995 support say that perhaps Adobe reader can be set to open in a new window, but I want this to be the default when I circulate my file to interested people, so would prefer to modify the links.
    Can anyone help with a smple solution ? (I also believe in Santa Claus !)
    System: Vista; Reader X 10.1.0

    I don't know if you can change this in the PS file, but if you had Acrobat you could embed the following code into your file, that will make sure the links open in a new window. However, you should be aware that this code will change the preferences at the application level, which some people might not appreciate.
    The code is:
    app.openInPlace = false;

  • Opening a URL/File in new window instead of new tab

    I think I know the answer to this, but I'd like to check anyway.  When setting an action to Open URL or File for a button/click box/hyperlink/etc, is there a setting in Captivate to open the URL/File in a new WINDOW instead of a new TAB? I know to use the "New" setting along with the Open URL or File action. I assume opening in a new window instead of a new tab by default is going to depend on the settings of whatever browser you use, but like I said, just wanted to check. Thanks!

    If you open it in javascript and specify a height/width or location it should open in a new window.
    window.open("http://www.adobe.com", "_blank", "toolbar=yes, scrollbars=yes, resizable=yes, top=500, left=500, width=400, height=400");

    hello Balaatmozilla,
    please check if this problem appears as well when you try to download a file, does this happen again when you try to download a file?
    if so there must be a problem with your HDD controler, to solve this issue follow th steps:
    1.Right Click on My Computer, Select Properties
    2.Click on Device Manager in Top Left corner
    3.expand the IDA/ATI/ATAPI controllers
    4.right click on the one which is related to your HDD
    5.click on Uninstall
    6.Restart
    when you restart your windows the OS will try to install the drivers again, if this happens then restart again and check if the problem is solved, if no try to install the HDD drivers and related drivers manually and then restart your machine

    Dear all,
    I'm using JDev ADF 11.1.1.4.0
    I use the command button method to generate pdf file with JasperReports and I store it into the public folder /reports/test5.pdf. To open this file I can use goLink or goButton with target frame _blank, but how can I open this file automatically after generation?
    I was reading about fileDownloadActionListener, but it's not what I need, I just want to open the file in new window browser.
    Any help will be appreciated.

    In Firefox Options / Privacy be sure "Remember download history" is checked. To see all of the options on that panel, "Firefox will" must be set to "Use custom settings for history".
    To find your OS information, on your Windows desktop, right-click the My Computer icon, choose Properties, under System on that small window is info about your OS.

  • When clicking on links that open in a new window, the links don't open and Firefox freezes in a way. I can navigate the page I am on but cannot click to open a new tab or bookmark.

    When navigating the internet, if I come across a web page that has a link to open a picture or program in a new window, if I click on it, it does not open. Firefox immediately looses functionality in that I cannot open a new tab with the mouse wheel, right click to open a new tab, or use my bookmarks in either the drop down or toolbar to navigate away. I can usually still navigate the page that I am on, for example, (https://loanconsolidation.ed.gov/AppEntry/apply-online/appindex.jsp), when it freezes I cannot click on any of the content at the center of the page but I can still use the links from the list on the far left. For an example of the pictures, (http://www.insect-sale.com/), if you click on "New Arrivals" at the top of the page it takes you to a list of products that can only be viewed by clicking on them. Usually a picture of the item would open in a small window but it does not and Firefox freezes. This has also happen when I try a view a degree audit on a school's website where a program would usually open in a new window. The only thing I have been able to find that still functions properly when this happens is the home page button. I can click on it or use the wheel to open it in a tab just fine, but if I try and go anywhere else I cannot. The only way I can get Firefox back to normal is to use the Task Manager and end the process. Another thing I have noticed, that may or may not be related; is that my Norton Internet Security toolbar, that should show up below the bookmarks toolbar and above the tabs, only shows up about 1 out of every 10 times I open Firefox. Some days it doesn't show up at all. If it does show up and I log into Identity Safe, the autofill for the programed website works, even if the toolbar doesn't show up the next time I open Firefox.

    Go to Tools->Options->Apps
    Here you should see two columns: Content Type on the left, Actions on the right.
    Find and select excel spreadsheet or any other content type in the left column. There should be a corresponding action in the right column. What is it? You can use the drop-down list to select the option you want:
    Always Ask - Firefox will ask each time: What do you want to do with this file?
    Save file - Firefox will save this file to your computer
    Use - Firefox will give this file to the program to open it
    In case of saving, Firefox will either prompt you every time where you want the file to be saved, or save it to the default location. It depends on the preference in
    Tools->Options->General->Download

  • Target for a .pdf  with the link target _blank does not open in a new window.

    I have a simple html document with links to .pdf documents all set to _blank but only one opens in a new window.  The others open as _self.  Changing the target doesn't seem to make a difference.
    Any idea as to why that is happening?

    The Template .dwt file is only used locally by DW itself, there's no reason to upload it to the server unless you intend to share it with someone. You have to upload each individual page that the Template updates, every time you update the template and propagate that change across the child pages.
    It would probably be better to use a server side include. That way, you could update one file then upload it and all of your pages would automatically carry that update...
    SSI for Apache: http://www.javascriptkit.com/howto/ssi.shtml
    PHP's version: http://www.tizag.com/phpT/include.php
    It's especially handy if your site gets to the point where you have more than about 20 pages.

  • How can I set web links to open in a new window?

    I'm using the links tool in Acrobat 5.05 to create links in my pdf to other websites, not documents. When the pdf is posted online, I need those links to open in a new window. Now they open in the same window, which subjects the viewer to using the back button to return to the originating pdf and waiting for it to completely reload. This is a sizeable pdf file, making that very time consuming. I tried Un-checking the option about "Open Cross Document Links in Same Window" but tests indicated that it made no difference.
    If you need more info to clarify my question, please just ask. Any suggestions in regard to solving this will be appreciated.
    My apologies if a similar question has already been asked/answered. I did not find reference to it in my search.
    Thank you.

    You can use JavaScript for this. For example:
    app.launchURL("http://www.adobe.com", true);
    More information is in the Acrobat JavaScript reference. Note that this method is new to Acrobat 7. You can still use Acrobat 5 to create the JavaScript, but it won't work for versions less than 7, or for most users of non-Adobe PDF viewers. If you go this route, you should add some code that checks the version of Acrobat (Reader), and only execute the above code if 7 or above.

  • When I click on any Bookmark, how do I set it to open in a new window by default?

    Right clicking an icon in the Bookmarks Toolbar provides a drop down menu. That menu has "Open" as the Default and "Open in a New Window" as the second choice. I'd like to make "Open in a New Window" the Default. In other words, I'd like to be able to click on a Bookmark icon and open a new window. Is there a line in 'about:config' that I can change to accomplish this?
