Opening files in PS CS4

I must have accidentally changed a setting somewhere, but when I open an image in PS it does not show on the screen until I select
"Float in window." It is opening at .067% and I have to then change the view to 25% to see the image. So weird! Shut down/reboot did
not solve

Try going into Edit - Preferences - Performance and disabling OpenGL Drawing, then restarting Photoshop to test.
If this brings back your image display
...And you're on a PC, then you need a different display driver from the site of the maker of your video card. NOTE: IF YOU HAVE AN ATI VIDEO CARD DON'T GET THE LATEST, Catalyst 12.1. It's not stable. My suggestion for best results with Photoshop is to go back to 11.7.
After you've installed a better driver, don't forget to re-enable OpenGL Drawing (and restart Photoshop) in order to regain the use of the OpenGL-specific features, which are described here:

If you're on a Mac you need to look to Apple to release an approved OS update including a better display driver.

Well, it seems to be fine now. I down loaded updates to bridge and CS4 (and various other applications). This seems to have negated the issue.
Just to answer; yes it was happening with all file types. No I don't believe it ever worked before as I would always just open files in camera raw.

Problems opening files in DW CS4 - not all files and folders are showing

Hi!
I'm trying to change some already existing files on the homepage but when I click the Open button, it doesn't show all the files and folders, even if I ask it to show all files. When I open the ftp folder in Explorer, I can see everything. I'm using Vista and Dreamweaver is version 10.0 Build 4117.
Most of the unaccessible files and folders were created using Frontpage a long time ago but this also happens when I create new files, although the new ones I created used one of the old ones as a template. Any help would be appreciated! It's rather annoying not to be able to access all the files.

Can't open file: SharedContent.InDesignPlugin CS4

I have a problem with InDesign CS4.
When I try yo open a CS4(!) file it says:
The document "filename.indd" uses one or more plug-ins which are not currently available on your system. Do you want to open anyway?
If I chose: "OK' it says:
Cannot open "filename.indd". Please upgrade your plug-ins to their latest versions, or upgrade to the latest version of Adobe InDesign.
The only answers I could find by looking online is that I am using an older version of InDesign and that the file is created in a newer version. But when I look at the type of the file I am trying to open it says: InDesign® CS4 Document. So I should be able to open it with InDesign CS4 right?

The operating system cannot distinguish a newer version of InDesign if it's never been installed. They only associate an INDD files with the version of InDesign YOU have installed—InDesign CS4.
You need to notify the person who sent you the file to export an IDML file so you can open it in InDesign CS4.

Open file in Photoshop CS4 with PDF open options

Hi, I need to open Illustrator file in Photoshop with PDF open options and set the crop page options to media box. I am not sure how to do it. Here what I have that doesn't work:

Open options are a list… So you supply like so…
open theFile as PDF with options ¬
{class:PDF open options, bits per channel:eight, constrain proportions:true, crop page:media box, mode:CMYK, page:i, resolution:300, suppress warnings:true, use antialias:true, use page number:true}
Where 'theFile' is an alias of your PDF file and 'i' is your page to open (if in a loop) else use an integer…

Problems opening files from Photoshop CS4 extended

Hello, I originally installed the software on my second drive which is intalled in my computer casing. This is due to limited space I have on my "C" drive, this is where the file "MyPictures" are also found.
Through Bridge, I can go through the "mypictures" file without a problem, however, if I am in photoshop the minute I go through the "open" fil commande the window opens I see the files but the computer freezes and I have to shut down the program.
I have received many suggestions to which none have resolved the problem. I have moved stuff around and I am now able to fit on the "C" drive the program (Photoshop) and "MyPictures" onto it. It did not solve the program either.
Is there anyone out there who can help me?

Yes, as a matter of fact before reinstalling the program on the "C" drive I did a defrag to make sure the disk was in order before reinstallation.

Cannot Open files in InDesign CS4

Yesterday I was working on a file located on a network computer. I have been working on this file for a month or so, everytime it worked just fine. Today I come in to work, and Indesign does not wan to open the file it gives me this error: Cannnot open the file "XXXXX.indd". Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the dile may be open in anotther application.
The weird part is that I have been working on this same file many time without problems. And this is not happening on my computer only but on my co-workers computer as well. We can open any file but files from this network computer cannot be open. Even the file and all the files in this network computer cannot be open and the Indesign Icon doesnt show next to the file name.
Has anybody gone though this? Please shine some light.

I have confirmed it is the Cryptolocker. It came in from a coworkers computer and infected our network drive. I do have a good antivirus but it didnt come from my end. I have been reading online quite a bit and there is no solution other that recovering from back up which I do not have, or paying the ransom. Either way I apprciate your help, and the time you have invested in this matter.

Why do I keep getting low memory errors when opening files in Bridge CS4? (New computer running i7 2.40GHz, 12GB RAM)

Just picked up a new computer which has a lot more RAM than my old computer bu I keep getting low memory errors. Never had this issue on my old computer, any ideas?

How much available disk space? Do you have a separate hard drive for Photoshop's scratch file?

I can't open .CR2 files in Photoshop CS4

I'm unable to get the .CR2 files from my new Canon Rebel T3i to open in Photoshop CS4. I just got this camera and I never had this problem with my old camera (Rebel Xsi). The raw files from the Xsi will still open, but not the ones from the new camera. Can anyone help me understand why this is happening?

Unable to open or create files in photoshop CS4

Suddenly my Photoshop CS4 has stopped working. I can open the program, but are not able to either open files (jpg, psd, tif ++) or create new files. No error message, it just doesn't happen anything. The program doesn't stop working either, I can still browse all menues or try to open the file again, but nothing happens, it's just like the functions doesn't work. Sometimes I''m able to open a file, by browsing my computer and choose "open in photoshop cs4". Then the file opens in Photoshop, but I'm not able to do anything. No menues or actions are working. I'm running 64bit Windows 7 on a Lenovo T420s laptop.
I'm running photoshop version 11.0.2
I have tried to reset the preferences, tried to reinstall Photoshop, tried other versions (CS5) and even tried to reinstall my computer. Doesn't help, the program is still not working.
What can cause this?

I am not sure why some computer mfgrs. are going to the dual video chip setup, but it does seem popular.
As you found out, the use of the Intel chip can be problematic. We see this a lot in the Adobe Premiere (video editing program) Forums, and it has become a real sore spot.
One of the major weaknesses is that while Intel makes great chips, they have historically had abysmal driver support. Some computer mfgrs. to re-write the Intel drivers, and that can help - but it can also hurt, depending on the regularity, that they issue new drivers. Even a simple OS update/hot-fix can render a video driver obsolete. That is one reason that ATI/AMD and nVidia issue drivers with such regularity (usually about 1/mo.).
Good luck, and wish that I had some "fix" for you. With some computers, users HAVE been able to disable the Intel graphics chip, but it does not sound like that will be the case with your computer. Have you looked at setting the video chip in the BIOS w/ SETUP?

Snow Leopard 10.6.2 CS4 InDesign can't open files with a "#" in file path using any of these perfectly normal methods:
1. double-click file in the Finder (e.g in a Folder on your Mac or on your Mac desktop etc.)
2. select file and choose "File... Open" command-o in the Finder
3. drag file to the application icon in the Finder.
4. Select file in Bridge and double-click, choose File.. Open.. or Drag icon to InDesign icon in dock.
If you try to open an ID file named with a "#", you will get an error message "Missing required parameter 'from' for event 'open.'"
This happens to any InDesign file that has a "#" (pound sign, number sign, or hash) in the filename or in the file path (any parent folder).
To reproduce
Name an InDesign file Test#.idd Try to open it in the Finder or Bridge (as opposed to the "Open" dilaog of InDeisng itself).
"Solution"
The file WILL open using File... Open... command-o while in InDesign application.
Rename the file or folders that have a "#" (shift-3) in the filename.
Report to Adobe if it bugs you.
This does not occur in "plain" Leopard 10.5 nor Tiger 10.4
Untested in Panther or before and
Untested with CS3 and earlier in Snow Leaopard.
Anyone have those and want to try this... ?

In case this really bothers you: we've added a workaround for this into Soxy. If you enable the option, these documents will open fine on double-click.

(Irrelevant background info (it's all invisible to the user): the workaround works by special-casing how Soxy opens documents in InDesign: instead of using AppleScript, Soxy will use ExtendScript to instruct InDesign to open the document - which works fine).

Open File - Security Warning with Network-based Silent Install of CS4

I am attempting to run an enterprise deployment of CS4 Design Standard Edition onto a pool of WinXP Pro workstations. I placed all of the install files on a networked server running Windows 2003, and generated from there all of the requisite .xml files (install, uninstall, and override files). From this network share, I can successfully run a silent install.
HOWEVER. Multiple times (two or three) during the course of the silent install, I receive the same pop-up security warning from Windows XP (definitely an OS message, not anti-virus or other) that reads as follows:

I have tried excluding Adobe Air from the installation package, but I still receive the same security prompt. This is sufficiently a hassle to have to click through these prompts in a silent install. But more importantly I am unable to run the silent install as part of a logoff script because for all intents & purposes it is no longer a silent install (i.e. it requires user intervention). To top it off, I found when testing the logoff script the prompts are suppressed and the installation fails prior to the bulk of the installation (Photoshop, Illustrator, & InDesign).
I'm sure that I could run the install by copying all of the files to each local workstation, but again that would defeat the purpose of an easy, network-based install. In the past I was able to install CS3 in this fashion with no troubles, which of course did not include Adobe Air.
Can anybody offer a suggestion as to how to disable these security messages, or alternately, how to entirely exclude Adobe Air from the install package? I have found a VB script that is supposed to address the security warnings issue, but to run the script also requires the user to accept it at a security prompt.

I'm now able to deploy design suite premium cs4 successfully.
The issue for me was that the AirapplicationRunner installs some useless software. I worked around the issue with the Airapplicationrunner prompt by removing any apps that are installed using that method. By "removing" I mean marking that app as "donotinstall" in the deployment file. The apps I removed are these adobe codes for adobe media player, adobe.com, adobeair itself. The below is from my deploy.xml file used for the silent workflow:

donotinstall
donotinstall
If you mark those three adobe codes as "donotinstall" the prompt never appears and the real apps get installed just fine.

Can't import/open HTML files in Fireworks CS4

I'm trying to import/open HTML files into Fireworks CS4 to do some redesigning. I inherited the job of redoing my companies website and we believe the person who created our website created the site using Dreamweaver 8. Unfortunatley that person moved on to a new job across the country and we can't ask him exactly how he created our website.
When I try to open some of the HTML files in FW I get the message: "Could not open the file....Fireworks could not find an HTML table in this file". Next I tried creating a new, very simple HTML page in Dreamweaver CS4 that contains just a few lines of text and 1graphic (we just bought the CS4 web suite). Again, I get the same error.
Other files give me a slightly different error message when trying to open them in FW, "The HTML document contains one or more images with absolute web addresses for the source. Fireworks cannot handle these images. --click OK-- (next error message) Could not open the file. Fireworks has encountered a problem with the HTML in this table. Verify that the HTML is valid"... and then it closes and nothing loads into FW. Bummer.
I've searched on these forums and can't find any solutions to this problem although I found a few people experiencing the same problem.
Do I need to do something to the Dreamweaver created HTML's to get them to open in FW? Any help would be appreciated.

Fireworks is a graphics editor that can export code; it is not an HTML/code editor.
If you have exported HTML from Fireworks, you ought to be able to re-import that, but I would think most people who use Fireworks exported code would just modify their Fireworks document and re-export. (Fireworks' code is not robust and it is only intended for mockups and prototypes. Fireworks is not intended for developing and maintaining live Web sites; Dreamweaver is.)
If your developer used Dreamweaver, then I really don't expect that Fireworks would be able to import that, nor any code that isn't in exactly the format that it can export. If you know your developer used Fireworks, then you need to look for .png files. Fireworks uses an enhanced version of the PNG format for its native document format.
If you are making small adjustments to your site, then you might be better off working in Dreamweaver. If you're doing a site re-design, then Fireworks is an excellent tool for laying out your design and producing your graphics, but you will, at some point, need to move over to Dreamweaver for coding.

How can i open .mts files in premiere cs4?

when i import .mts file in cs4 it says file format is not supported.
could any one please tell me how can i open .mts file in premiere cs4.

What kind of audio did the camera record? For example, the Sony NX5U can be set to record linear PCM audio, which will not import into CS4. If the same camera is set to record AC3 audio, then the clips should import and play as expected. This thread may help:

In CS4, "Cannot open file" "Please upgrade your plug-ins..."

I am using InDesign CS4 on a PC. I am trying to open an .indd file created by our marketing department. I don't know what version of InDesign they use nor whether they work on Macs or PCs.
When I double-click to open the file, I get a "Cannot Open File" popup box. The box reads "Cannot open docname.indd. Please upgrade your plug-ins to their latest versions, or upgrade to the latest version of Adobe InDesign." It then lists 18 different plugins:
ASSIGNMENTS.RPLN
TEXT.RPLN
SPREAD.RPLN
MASTER PAGE.RPLN
TEXT ATTRIBUTES.RPLN
.... and 13 more.
When I go to Help > Configure Plug-Ins, I can see that I do have all of these plug-ins. But apparently they are not the latest versions.
Anyone know how I can update these plugins? I have searched for them on the Adobe website, but no joy.

It's a safe bet that they are working in CS5. The only way to get those plugins is to install CS5 on your machine.
You could ask your marketing department to export an IDML file from CS5, which you can open up in CS4, but it might fail horribly (and it's guaranteed to lay out incorrectly if they've used any tools in CS5 that aren't in CS4). If you rely on this workflow, by regularly using a document going back and forth between CS5 and CS4, chances are very, very good that it will fail at a critical moment. The only really safe thing to do here is to get everyone using the same version of InDesign.
