Opening files keeps stealing windows focus.

hey there,
i'm pretty new to Mac's OSX and i have a little question that i couldn't find a question anywhere.
i'm using my computer alot to hear music. i open a folder in the finder and i want to run through the songs and i don't want to use the preview functions because it's always on top and it's annoying..
when i open a file - for example an mp3 file , i'm using CMD + O , and altough the itunes app is minimized the finder window is losing his focus to itunes.
when i had PC and i opened an mp3 with winamp , it didn't happen. is there anway to fix it ?
thank you
udi

hi there, i've had this same issue too for a while...so basically...the problem only happens if you run windows live messenger with compatability mode and while you tell windows live messenger to show what music you're listening to.
SO the solution to this problem is to:
1. turn off compatability mode
OR
2. turn off "show imformation about the song im listening to" to on windows live messenger
personally i'd rather just turn off "show imformation about the song im listening to" because windows live messanger tends to crash a lot when compatability mode is turned off.

  • Get volumes displayed by default under Home when opening File Explorer in Windows 10 Technical Preview

    Scenario:
In Windows 8.1, it is to display volumes under This PC by default when opening File Explorer, which is as shown in Figure1. However, in Windows 10 Technical Preview, it is not to display volumes under Home by default when
opening File Explorer, which is as shown as in Figure 2. This articles describes a workaround to get volumes displayed by default under
Home when opening File Explorer in Windows 10 Technical Preview.
    Workaround:
This workaround is to edit some related Registry keys. Note: Please click
Yes in the User Account Control prompt to continue. What’s more, before you make changes to a registry key or subkey, we recommend that you export, or make a backup copy, of the key or subkey. In this scenario, please backup the key
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer.
Click Windows icon and type Folder option in Search box, and click
    Folder option to open it.
Under View tab, clear the checkbox Hidden extensions for known file types
    in Advanced settings.
Create a Text Document, copy the following lines into it, rename it as
Fix.reg. Double click the file fix.reg and click Yes to run this file

i think what he want is to change the Win + E shortcut to This PC.
I understand that is the goal. I've tried the registry hack, it works, but I found it left fragments of other files from "Home' scatter around in there too. We all been using this new version of windows for a few weeks now, built up a list of stuff
we have looked at, and that is why I said it's not the prettiest solution. It might have been okay if it was done just after a fresh install. In my alternative solution, you are bringing the This PC icon out to a more accessible place so you
don't have to use the File Explorer icon to get at the volumes i.e. hard drive view.
Personally, when I launch the File Explorer, I am expecting to be looking for something straight away on my hard drives and not be presented with a list of stuff that I have already looked at. That kind of thing should be left
in a Recent Folder sort of thing we use to see in the older versions of windows.

  • Using MIME type to open file in different window

Hello, I am popping up a Save File Dialog Box for an Excel file being generated in my system using POI. I am using the MIME type to display this dialog. The problem is that if the user selects 'Open' instead of 'Save', it opens in the same window. Is there any way to set an attribute to tell it to open the file in a new, separate window?

Nope. The response is sent to wherever the request came from. If you want the response to open in a new window then the HTML that sends the request has to say that.

  • InDesign Button Action for PDF – Open File (in new window)

I am using the 'Open File' action on buttons in a document i am making which will eventually be a PDF, but am wanting to specify the button action to open the file (another PDF) in a new window.
I have found that I can achieve this and add button actions with this specific behavior in Acrobat, but it seems to be missing in indesign's abilities as far as I can see. Is there a way to do this in indesign so that i do not have to tinker in acrobat after I have made my PDF. As if I have changes to the PDF, all buttons then have to be totally re-done each time, and i will have possibly 900 buttons!!
    Thanks.
    (Using indesign CS4)

    Jeff,
You are correct. I want to have a DVD with multiple PDFs. The main one almost acting as a table of contents for the rest.
Problem = the 'main one' is 62 pages long, many hundred buttons and every page has at least a few of these links needed.
Which means, if you are correct (and I believe you are, hope you aren't) that I need to custom code these buttons in Acrobat.
The method is easy, but x300 = painful. And then the kicker... Boss says, 'Change slide 30' ... which means: Back to InDesign, Export to PDF, Recode ALL BUTTONS.
*Note, there are some 'interactive' buttons with roll over states. So I don't think replacing the pages would work.

  • Interactive PDF, open file in new window.

    Hello everyone,
I was unable to find this on the net or I could be using the wrong typed search. Created a successful interactive document. I attached a portfolio to this interactive document. I have 3 images. Two are hyperlinked to specific urls which work just fine. I have a sample button which opens the pdf. The only problem I have is that the pdf open in the current pdf window of the past file, so one has to reopen the original file again to access it. I could create a button on the portfolio webpage to go back to the original document, but that would be 20 buttons.
Is there a way for someone to click on the sample button, but open up a new window like you would for a webpage?
Right now the setup in the Buttons and Forms window:
    Sample button
    Type: button
    Name: Sample
    Event: On Release or Tap
    Open File - Checked
    Select File: current path
    PDF Options
    Description: Portfolio Samples
    Printable - Checked.
    That is pretty much it.

Not everything can be done in InDesign when it comes to interactivity and forms. I believe you have to use a JavaScript in Acrobat to get the file to open in a new window. I can't provide you a specific reference. Ask on the Acrobat forums.

  • How to open files using the Windows associated program?

I have a LV program that is generating a list of files that I may want to open using the associated Windows program. Some are standard Office files but others require proprietary analysis programs.  All have Windows associations such that I can double click on the file name in the Windows file manager and launch the appropriate program. I would like to mimic this behavior within my LV program but without coding a case for each file extension, some of which I may not anticipate now.

There are some problems with that VI.  I have one user that I had to track a problem down with trying to open a PDF file.  Their registry key HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.pdf was read in with a value of "AcroExch.Document                 " (with a lot of spaces after it), which prevented this VI from finding the next key (AcroExch.Document\shell\open\command) which identifies the path to Adobe Acrobat.  Instead of getting the path to Adobe Acrobat, I got back "Adobe Acrobat 7.0 Document" as the path (see attached error).
I checked the key with the Windows registry editor, and it did NOT show the extra spaces.  However, just opening the key and selecting OK (without making changes) was enough to clear the problem.
Not sure if this problem is with the registry keys that Adobe Acrobat created when it was installed or upgraded (the user was on version 9.0, but there are older versions on that machine, too), or if the problem was with the LabVIEW registry key readers in Open a Document on Disk.vi.

  • Opening files in separate windows

  • Script open IE, press "okay" on cert selection, "open" file, close IE window

Im trying to create a script to Open an internet explorer window to a link, which i've worked out. But then i need it to click "OKAY" when a windows security certificate pops
up, then click "open" when it asks to download the file (link points to a file, rather than a page), and then close the IE instance that it had just opened. Im unsure if the "open" with the file download works, as i cannot get past the
    cert slection beforehand.
    Open IE link:
    $IE = New-Object -comObject InternetExplorer.Application.1 ; $IE.visible = $True
    $IE.Navigate("https://website.com/file.exe")
I've also found this code that will press okay for the certificate selection if i know the button ID, but i can't seem to find the button ID for the cert selection window:
    while ($IE.busy) {
    sleep -milliseconds 50
    sleep -milliseconds 500
    $doc = $IE.document
    sleep -milliseconds 500
$btn = $doc.getElementByID("button ID you can see in the source of the page")
    $btn.Click()
Click "open" on the file download:
    Select-Window iexplore | Select-Control -Class "Frame Notification Bar" | Send-Keys "%S"
Close IE window. This currently closes all IE instances, is there a way to just close the one it had opened to begin with?
    Get-Process iexplore | Foreach-Object { $_.CloseMainWindow() }

    Get-Process iexplore | Foreach-Object { $_.CloseMainWindow() }
    $IE.Quit() will do that.

  • Prevent BEx from stealing windows focus and disable nag screen

    Hi all,
Whenever I start BEx Analyzer or QueryDesigner (3.5) it takes a couple of minutes until the application is loaded. During that time a welcome screen turns up, which prevents me from doing anything else but staring at the photo of the SAP Building.
For some reason the log on pad pops up as well.
When reloading a query in Bex Analyzer, the application steals the windows focus several times.
Does anyone know how I can disable these "features"?
    Thanks
    Gerrit

We have the same problem when reloading queries in BeX Analyzer.
Did you find a solution to prevent the application to steal the windows focus several times.
    Thanks for your answer.

  • ITunes (10.7.0.21) steals window focus every 60 seconds

Extremely annoying - I have been using itunes for about 3 years and have had every version update since I started, so I'm not sure why it has started happening now.
Even trying to type this question out is annoying as every 60 seconds my cursor flicks over to the itunes window and screws up my typing.
    Any ideas?
I have seen similar problems in the forums going back years but I've never encountered it myself before.
    Thanks
    Alasala

If you can't figure out if a program is causing the issue, I have found a fix that works for me using  iTunes v. 11.0.2.6 and Windows 8
The fix however eliminates ANY program from stealing focus in windows.  Which I prefer anyway.  This means that you will have to pay attention to your desktop bar or start menu for flashing.  This will let you know the program is asking for your attention.
    Open Regedit
    Browse to HKCU\Control Panel\Desktop\
Change “ForegroundLockTimeout” to “30d40”  (make sure this is in HEX not Decimal)
    Restart your Computer.
For those of you worried about messing with your registry, it is a serious thing to do and it should NOT be taken lightly, Here’s the Page from Microsoft telling you what the key is so you know this is legit fix.  I always recommend backing up your registry and creating a save point BEFORE making any changes.

  • Opening files in new window

I'm using Captivate 2 and have linked some Excel files to my
published movies. The published movies and the Excel files are on
my Web server in the same directory, but users are having the
    following problems:
The Excel file does not open and the
user gets a "page not found" error -- I experienced this myself
with WinXP SP 2, but if I pressed Control and clicked the button to
open the file, it opens sometimes. Other Win XP SP2 users report
that Ctrl + Click does not work for them.
With Windows 2000, the Excel file
opens, but takes 5-10 minutes to open - none of the files are very
large and I am using a high-speed connection
Does anyone have any suggestions for resolving this?

    ComputerWhiz

    issue still not solved,
ps if you click on a pdf on the above link do you get the same problem or is it just me..?

  • Multiple instances of Word launching when opening files from Explorer window

I am seeing an odd behavior with Word 2010 (32 bit) that I could not replicate in earlier versions of Word.
    Here are the steps:
Note: When performing these steps, I am on a 32 bit Windows 7 machine. Word is not running yet, and the Task Manager dialog is open with the processes sorted in reverse alpha order so that WinWord.exe will appear at the top.
    1. Go to a folder containing a set of word documents or templates (all are in either .docx or .dotx format) in Windows Explorer.
    2. Select a group of files (I am selecting 4 .docx files in my tests).
    3. Right-click and select Open.
    4. Four instances of WINWORD.EXE appear in the Task Manager (one of them then goes away, leaving only three instances running, but I think that's beside the point).
Could someone shed light on why this is happening with Word 2010 and if there's anything that can be done to make it "behave" and open only one instance?
PS - The templates contain no code, and no add-ins are loaded at the time that I perform these steps. Also, all Word and Office updates have been installed on the machine.
    Thanks
    Wordyone

Koero, did you try the registry hack proposed in this forum?
I started getting multiple instances of Word 2010 two days ago in Windows 7 on my company PC after a reboot following a Windows updates pushed out by the IT department.
This also happened immediately after a Windows update on May
27, 2014, but somehow I was able to stop that behavior then.  That fix happened after I restored a old copy of Normal.dotm but evidently that
was not the solution because restoring that copy did not fix the problem today.
    The fix suggested by
peebs7384 in this forum on April 19, 2012 of changing the "Lay
out this document" setting did not work on my PC.
One support person who has both the 2010 and 2013 versions indicated that he also gets multiple instances with 2010 but not with 2013.
I plan to ask my IT department to attempt a fix tomorrow and will suggest that they try registry hack posted in this forum by
kit_jj on Aug 16, 2012 (based on Pierre's posting) (thanks
    kit_jj and Pierre).
    By the way,
kit_jj's posting has only 1 vote & I would had hoped to see more votes.  Now that I look more closely I see that this solution was "Proposed
as answer by kit_jj" himself.  At least others have posted comments that indicate that fixes posted by
kit_jj & Pierre have worked (at least partially).
Any ideas as to why this started happening again?

I have been trying to open a file I downloaded from a training site and keep getting this error:
    Can anyone help?

    Hi there,
    Welcome to Adobe Community.
It seems that these files were created using Captivate 6 or 6.1. If they are being created using a version later that yours, they will not open.
    Thanks!
