Opening files via Default Program

Can someone tell me why my PNG files cannot be opened with
Fireworks if I try to set it as the default program in Windows? I
had Version 6.0 & 8.0 installed on my machine. I was running
them concurrently without a problem. After I uninstalled Fireworks
6.0 the problem occured. I couldnt no longer double click a PNG
file and have it automatically open the program. When I try to
re-associate the PNG extension with Fireworks it doesnt let me
select the fireworks.exe program from C:\Program
Files\Macromedia\Fireworks 8 directory.
Any ideas how to fix this?

ana_rad,
You might try deleting the png file extension from the list
of
associated files and recreating it. That has worked for me in
the past.

  • Cant open files via double click on file icons

    hello
i recently wiped my drive and did a clean install of 10.5.1 (lepperds).
    here are specs for my machine:macprobook 2.33ghz intel core 2 duo w/ 2gb 667mhz ddr2 sdram, 120gb HD (72.25GB available), serial # W2186148K4Y, username:billysmac password:••••••••••••
now, when i double click files created in PhotoShop & Image Ready (not sure about other apps / files), the application will open but the file i originally double clicked does not open.
the same is true if i try to open file via: apple + single click on file >>>>> then drag down to 'open with app xyz" in the sub menu that appears. app opens but file does not.
the only way to open a file is to activate PS or IR followed by: menu bar >>> file >>> open >>>> finder window >>>> nav to & select file >>> click open in finder window.
furthermore, i have my iphoto set to edit photos in PhotoShop, but when i click 'edit', nothing happens.
this is a legit registered copy of PS & IR so im not sure whats going on. when i did a wipe, i backed up all my apps, account, files & folders, etc. to an ext HD. after the syst s.w. install, i dragged all the apps into the apps foleder. some apps wouldnt work any more, so i reinstaled them PS / IR did work though, except this issue, so i didnt boter reinstalling.
    any suggestions?
    thanks

  • Developer: How can I let people open files with my program?

    Hello Everyone,
I just finished my program for the Mac, and decided to make it an application.
I used Platypus to make my program into an application. Unfortunately when I try to open a file with my program (control + click on file + open with -> other), my application is grayed out and I can't select it. I see it there along with the other applications but I can't select it like I can Mail or TextEdit.
I read somewhere I had to use XCode to let people open files with my program but I have never used XCode and I have no idea how to do that. Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Nick

You've posted in the wrong forum. This is the OS X Leopard Installation and Setup forum. You need to post your problem in the Developers forum. Also, since Platypus is not an Apple product, you should visit it's developers forum for assistance. The Apple Discussions is intended to assist users with problems and questions about Apple products only.
To use XCode Tools you need to install it from the Optional Installs folder on your OS X Installer Disc One. It comes with documentation. More assistance can be found at developer.apple.com.

  • Adobe Reader 11 (XI) won't open file via command line

    Hello,
I have posted this question to probably inapropriate topic earlier today, so I am repeating it again.
I installed newest Adobe Reader XI today and when I tried to open certain pdf file via command line, it reported a syntax error. Now, this syntax worked so far on versions 9 and 10  (I checked today with them and it is working), so my question is - where can I find new syntax, if there is any? Googling didn't help. Or what else could wrong?
In previous versions I was able to open pdf file (on page 5) like this (all was taken from Help file "Open parameters")
    "CompletePathToAdobeReader"/A"page=5""CompletePathToPDF",
    ie
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe"/A"page=5""d:\V2\DataSheet.pdf"
but now - not that it doesn't open specific page, but it doesn't want to open file at all.
    edit:
Operating systems running: Windows 7, Windows XP
    Thank you.
    Message was edited by: v604

Yes, it reported correctly becuase there is a syntax error in your command. Try spaces between the /A switch and open parameter. Try this:
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe" /A "page=5" "d:\V2\DataSheet.pdf"
    Hope this helps.

  • CS6 Does not open file due to program error

I have been using CS6 for quite sometime with no much issues at all. All the sudden, today, without any changes being made in my computer (iMAC IOS 10.9) the software stopped opening files when I went FILE/OPEN and selecting the file to open (jpg).
CS6 opens "finder" and then quickly the finder window dissapears (so no time to make any selection,,this is not related to a type of file since...I can never get to even select one..) and the message "Could not complete your request because of a program error". The only option is to click OK and that is it....
I now need to go and open finder  and then navigate through to the file and the right click and choose Open with CS6 (anf the file opens)....
Any ideas about this? like I said..nothing has been done (except the lates PS update a couple of days ago ver. 13.0
    Thanks,
    Alex Viademonte

I tried reseting the Photoshop presets (which takes a lot of practice but
eventually got a "do you want to delete the Photoshop Presets" which I
did.... no changes with the behavior when trying to Open a location from
    photoshop...
then I read about turning off Coverflow  (but the only instructions I could
see were for Safari 4 ....and I'm running Safari 7".... anyway, is this
instruction supposed to be typed as one single instruction when accessing
    Terminal ?
    defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugSafari4IncludeFlowViewInBookmarksView
    -bool NO
everywhere I look it seems as two separate commands like this... but
I couldn't get Terminal to type in two different lines.... so I typed
    it altogether.
    defaults write com.apple.Safari
    DebugSafari4IncludeFlowViewInBookmarksView -bool NO -
at any rate,,, the problem is still there....
Once again, upgrading the software is NOT always a good idea.... clearly
the Apple guys ......got some issues here....

  • Photoshop - open with: choose default program

    Hello,
How do I choose Photoshop as the Default Program to open .jpgs if the program doesn't appear in the "Choose Program you want to use to open this file:"? the
Also, I've Browsed in order to Choose the Default program but when I go to:  Program Files>Adobe>Adobe Photoshop CC 2014>Photoshop.exe and choose this program the Windows Photo Viewer is automatically chosen and Photoshop doesn't EVER appear in my choose of Default programs.
This wasn't an issue with an older version of Photoshop.
    Help!
    Lonnie

Sounds more like a Windows issue than Photoshop.  Can you test the Open with tool with other file types and programs?
I'm also surprised that Photoshop does not appear in the main list, and that you have to hunt for it with Browse.  Have you tried navigating to the same .exe file in Explorer and making sure it launches Photoshop.

  • Problems opening files via 'File - Open/cmd-O' in Photoshop CC 2014 after Yosemite installation

I upgraded to Yosemite on Friday and shortly after, I noticed that when attempting to open multiple files, after I've opened a few files (it's not a set amount, sometimes happens on the 3rd file, sometimes on the 6th etc) I get the error message 'could not complete your request because of a program error' - the only way out of this is to quit Photoshop and restart which is obviously very frustrating and time consuming!
I spent some time on live chat to Adobe yesterday and we deleted settings, preferences, uninstalled, reinstalled, moved Colour settings folder to desktop but nothing worked. I have a call scheduled with Adobe to go through lots more tests at the end of the week as I've been advised this isn't a global issue but I thought I'd post on here in the meantime to see if anybody had any thoughts as to what could be causing this. After speaking to Adobe, I have since realised that even after getting this error message, I can still drag files to the PS icon and open them that way - I have just opened 20 files this way with no error message, it's just when I used the File-open/cmd O method (my usual way of working) to open files that is happens.
It was all fine before installing Yosemite and I am on the very latest CC 2014 version (this problem does not happen in the CC version incidentally, only the 2014 version - so I'm using that as a workaround for now).
I also had issues opening files in Illustrator on Friday, I was unable to open files using file - open/cmd O (nothing happened after I clicked it, but I got no error message), again, I had to drag the file to the AI icon in the dock to open it but that seems to be ok now even though I haven't changed anything with the Illustrator application - just thought I'd mention it incase it was related!
If anybody can help, I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

    Glad it's not just me!
Interestingly, when I spoke with Apple, I tried it in a new user account and the problem went away. Apple said to speak to Adobe which I have done and after deleting settings/prefs again the problem remained. Adobe say as it's fine in a new account then it's an Apple issue not Adobe.
I did find a workaround for now though, when using file - open, set it to list view instead of column view - this fixed my problem but sadly I'm used to working in column view so it's not ideal!
I also got the same error message when trying to replace a set of brushes yesterday too. I need to go back to Apple now but just need to schedule some time to sit and troubleshoot!

  • Open file in default application with unsigned webstart

    Hi,
Is it possible to open a document in the user's default registered application (on the OS) from an unsigned Java webstart application?
I don't mind if the user gets a warning, but the only thing I found was the ability to save a file (also with a user warning), but I'd like to automatically open the document generated by the webstart application in the default application on the OS registered for the file association. In this case either a *.xlsx (Excel/OpenOffice) or *.xml file
    Any ideas?

You can use BasicService.showDocument() to do this, however you will get a blank windows opened in the default browser.

  • Help!  Can't open files in all programs since installing version cue upgrade

Please help. A few days ago I got some pop up (I'm in windows XP) saying updates were available for 2 adobe things. I just chose yes and kept working. Now, I can't open files in any of my CS3 programs. I have lost 4 days of productivity and fear losing my mind next!! after doing some research, it appears alot of people are having trouble since uploading some version cue upgrade for cs3. I followed their suggestions and unchecked VC in photoshop (my first offender) and suddenly I could open files again. But now I can't in Illustrator, but in preferences, it does not have VC checked.
I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the whole package. I've tried just uninstalling VC. Nothing's working and I'm having major deadline problems now.
    Please, please help! Thanks.
    Anne

You can try a system restore to a point before the update. If you're lucky, it might work, but I often find System Restore will fail when you need it the most.

    Hi,
after downloaded the file to the client, you can use the client_host command to start the application and open the file.

  • Can't open files via

    Hi all,
    Hi all,
I'm no longer able to open files in the ways I've always used, either:
    - Dragging a photo on to the icon in my Dock; or
    - Right click on file > Open With > Photoshop
The only way I can open files now is via File > Open, which (given the Mac filing system) is not convenient unless the photo is on the Desktop.
This problem has only recently occurred, but it doesn't seem to be linked to any particular event. One day it was working, the next not.
Can anyone tell me how to restore the functions I'm used to? I can't find any Preference files for Photoshop (e.g com.photoshop.plist) to trash.
    I'm using CS1 on a Mac running Tiger 10.4.11.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

  • I cannot open files via firefox on sharepoint 2010, i can however open the files on IE.

I cannot open files such as word, excel, pdfs on sharepoint when i use Sharepoint. I can open them ok on IE.
i have updated the firefox to the latest version 8.
    Still no joy.
Is there a add on i need to install?

Looks like the site might make use of Adobe Flash. At this time we don't have support for the Android Adobe Flash plugin. We are working on getting Flash to work but it has been a difficult path as the Android Flash plugin is quite different from the desktop version.

  • SharePoint cannot open files via IE 11, while chrome works well.

We are using IE 11, and cannot open word or excel files in SharePoint library by Office 2013. The OpenDocuments class add-on is enabled. And only one computer has this issue.
    Windows 7
    Only Office 2013 - version 15.4631.1000
    Internet Explorer - IE11.0.9600.17207 update 11.0.10 (IE 32-bit)
The error messages is: "To open this document, your computer must be running a supported version of Microsoft Office application and a browser that supports opening files directly from the Office Online"
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,
This issue occurs because the SharePoint OpenDocuments Class (OWSSUPP.DLL) Internet Explorer Add-in is the wrong version due to having multiple versions of Office on the same
workstation. To check the version open Internet Explorer when the error is showing, go to Tools, Manage Add-ons. In Manage Add-ons click on SharePoint OpenDocuments Class and notice the version is any version other than 14.0.
The details can be found and solved at:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2540922
Meanwhile try to reset the Internet Explorer, by resetting Internet Explorer settings, you return it to the state it was in when it was first installed on your computer. This is useful for troubleshooting problems that might be caused by settings that
    were changed after installation.
    a. Close all Internet Explorer and Explorer windows that are currently open.
    b. Start Internet Explorer.
    c. On the Tools menu, tap or click Internet options. If you don't see the Tools menu, press Alt.
    d. In the Internet Options window, tap or click the Advanced tab.
    e. Tap or click Reset

  • Slow opening files via mapped drive

I have a single user who is experiencing delays of 20-30 seconds when opening image files (~8MB) via a mapped drive to Sharepoint.  When opening via Internet Explorer they open within a couple of seconds.  Everybody else in the company is not experiencing
    these delays.
Have spoken to Sharepoint 365 support team and they have not been able to assist.
Have tried the suggestions I have found on the forums of:
    1. Trusted sites
internet Explorer - tools - options - Security - Trusted Sites - Sites - add the following and press Add after every item:
    https://*.lync.com
    https://*.microsoftonline.com
    https://*.sharepoint.com
    https://*.outlook.com
    then close.
    2. Intranet sites
Internet Explorer - Tools - Options - Security - Local Intranet - Sites - Advanced - add the following and press Add after every item:
    *.lync.com
    *.microsoftonline.com
    *.outlook.com
    *.sharepoint.com
    then close.
Internet Explorer - tools - compatibility view settings - uncheck "Display intranet sites in Compatibility View".
     Uncheck automatically detect settings,
Within Internet explorer - show Menu bar
Tools - internet options - Connections - LAN settings - uncheck 'Automatically detect settings'
None of these resolved the issue, have reset IE to default settings and this has had no effect.
Executed the netsh int tcp set heuristics disabled & netsh int tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
commands from Command Prompt in Administrator mode & rebooted the system, still it didn’t fix the issue.
User is using IE11 and Sharepoint 365.  Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    1. Create a new Map network drive to check to see if the issue persists. -
Have already tried this with Sharepoint Online Support Team, made no difference
    2. Make sure that the latest Windows updates are applied.  They are
    3. Sign in your SharePoint Online site, and select Keep me signed in check box.  Already set up
    4. Add the SharePoint Online URLs to your Trusted sites zone in Internet Explorer. Already set up
    5. Try restarting your computer by performing a clean boot (support.microsoft.com/.../929135), then try again.  Tried
this but again made no difference.
    Any other ideas?
