Opening files with no extension

Adobe Reader is installed on 2 different PCs running Windows XP, PC1 and PC2.
Both PCs need to open .pdf files with no extension, because an application renames files, let's say "file1pdf", as "file1", without altering the contents.
On PC1 if I try to open a file, let's say "file1", I see a list of available applications including "Adobe Reader".
On PC2 if I try to open the same file I don't see "Adobe Reader" in the list of available applications.
Adobe reader is installed on both PCs.
How can I add "Adobe Reader" to the list of available applications to open files with no extension on PC2?
Regards
Marius

Click on "Browse" button at the "Open With" dialog and navigate to the location, where acrord32.exe is located. Preferebly, it should be this location "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Reader 9.0\Reader\AcroRd32.exe" unless you have installed at some customized location.  I'm assuming you have installed Reader 9. Once you add Adobe Reader in the open with list, it would continue to appear next time onwards.

  • Opening files with .asp extension

Since few weeks I am not able to open files with .asp extension.
There was no problem over a long time, maybe the issue started with the actualization of OS X, moving to OS X 10.6.5 or with the actualization of Safari, moving to 5.0.3.
Please let me know what I can do to re-open .asp files.
    Thanks

Hallo Everybody, I have a similar issue.
I run a Macbook Pro, and I operate into an internet based ERP system (managed by microsoft machines)
In this system, which completely works through internet, I can create orders, invoices, then I tap "create invoice" and get a pdf file.
Till few weeks ago it worked smoothly: I tapped "create invoice", the system worked and few seconds later adobe reader opened showing me the file from a .asp document. Now it doesn't work anymore.
If I tap "create invoice", adobe reader doesn't do anything, but the .asp file is created into the "download" folder with the name "print preview", so I have to go into that folder and manually open the file.
This leads in a waste of time and some confusion if I issue many documents at a time, which I find all mixes up with names "print preview 1" - 2 - 3...
Does anybody have a clue on how I can open the .asp files into adobe reader automatically as they are created?
    Thank you in advance

  • Why cannot I not open file with .wmv extensions?

I am not able to open file attachments that have a .wmv extension - I can open power point presentations. Am I missing an app or does Apple simply not recognize these as valid files? It seems to download, but then does not ever open.

    Nevermind, got it, thanks!

  • Open file with aspx extension

Is there a program for Mac OSX that can open this MSFT file type

Where are you seeing this type file?
I see them when trying to save one of my bank statements from online backing. When the save window comes up select the ASPX extension and change it to .PDF, another window will  pop up asking something like the extension is aspx with a button highlighted to use .PDF. It will then open in Preview or another PDF read you have installed.
You can also change the extension after it is downloaded/Saved to .PDF and it will open in a PDF reader.

Where do you go to select which program should open files with particular extensions?

if you right click on the file and select get info, a window will open. Click on the "open with" and the window will expand. There you can select which application you want that document to open with. If you want to open ALL documents of that type with a specific application click the change all button.

  • How can u open a file with .exe extension after it was unpacked?

Thank you Linc Davis for THE ARCHIVER, I was able to unpacked the program. However, after it was unpacked, I clicked the file wtih .exe extension and I got a message that this file will not be extract with this program. Is there another way to open file with .exe extension after it was unpacked by THE ARCHIVER...??? Any assistance is highly appreciated.

.exe files are Windows executables and do not run in OS X.  You would have to install Windows to use it.
    Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
    1. Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
    2. Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    3. VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
    4. CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
    5. VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
    6. Last is Q.  Q is a freeware emulator that is compatible with Intel Macs.  It is much slower than the virtualization software, Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

  • File with pls extension opens with data modeler instead of sql developer

    Hello,
I have both SQL Developer and Data Modeler installed as separate installations. If I  click in  the Windows File navigator on a file with the extension pls, the SQL Developer should open since the pls extension has been connected to SQL Developer.
If I have neither SQLD nor DM open, SQLD opens -> ok
If I have only SQLD open, the file is opened in SQLD -> ok
If I have only DM open, the file is opened in DM -> not ok
If I have both SQLD and DM open, the last started application opens the file -> sometimes ok
Is it possible to manage the opening of a pls to open always in SQL Developer?
    Joop

This is quite an old problem which I have seen with JDeveloper and SQLDeveloper so it may be framework related. I don't currently have both installed to check it out, but as it has been around a long time I doubt it has gone away.
SQL files would open in either JDeveloper or SQL Developer following the pattern Joop described. Java files would only ever open in JDeveloper.    IIRC there was never a SQL file association for JDeveloper and SQLDeveloper was always the default.

  • Preview program stoped to open files with extension .JPG

When open the files with the extension ".jpg" Preview program opens a gray window and everything, but in the information window shows the photo. In what could be the problem?

anything that is intermittent - and thus, non-reproducable - is a nightmare to troubleshoot and fix. From what little evidence there is, I would almost think of some third factor - other software? - that may be in play. maybe someone with more expertise can help...
I see that your Question has languished for some period of time without response. You have posted your issue in Using Apple Support Communities whose topic is 'How to use this forum software's interface, features and/or how to find what you wish'. It is a relatively low traffic and inappropriate forum for your problem. I will ask our Hosts to move it to " OS X Yosemite " where it may get a more rapid response from your fellow users.

I am trying to find out how to assign files with particular extensions to the appropriate software. At the moment when I create a file using Word it is apparently given the extension .docx but Word doesn't recognise its own files. How do I allocate the extension .docx to Word? There used to be a way of doing it, I think under "Preferences" but I can't seem to find it.

  • Read multiples files with same extension

how to read multiples files with same extension in java.
for ex : i would like to read all .DAT files from C drive using java.
    How is it done

    - You create the filter
    - You get the list of files
    - You open and read each file.
For the first two above you look at java.io.File and listFiles(FileFilter filter).
For the third you find whatever input stream is appropriate from java.io.*

  • Search and find jpg files with uppercase extension

Macbook pro 13 inch retina display with OS X Yosemite.
Some of the images I'm working on are being saved with all uppercase extension .JPG.
    My questions is:
    1) Does anyone know why this is happening?
    2) Is there a way to search all the files that have the uppercase extension .JPG?
    3) How could I change all the files with uppercase extension .JPG either individually or batch all the files automatically?
    4) Is there a way to have my files saved with the normal lowercase .jpg extension for future files?
    Thank you.

Which program are you using to edit your jpeg images?
On a normal Mac with HFS Journaled disk format, there is not any difference with upper case or lower case file names - only if you have formatted the disk as a "HFS Journaled Case Sensitive" can you have two files that differ only in case. For example on a disk with normal formatting, if you had a file called abc.jpg you could not create another file called abc.JPG (you will get an error if you try), but on a disk that was formatted as HFS Journaled Case Sensitive you could have both files.
So in your case the upper case files would be opened if you typed in the lower or upper case name.
Do you have a few files with this upper case issue or lots?
If you have only a few just rename them in Finder (Yosemite Finder now has a nice rename feature) - just highlight all the files you want to rename then right-click or control-click and select the item in the options dialog that appears named "Rename xx items" where xx is the number of items you had highlighted.
If you have a lot let me know and will tell you a different way that is easier but involves using the command line in Terminal.
Is it possible you accidentally had the caps lock key pressed when you typed in a name? In any event it doesn't really matter how they got the upper case name, simply changing the names to lower case should fix the problem so that it doesn't happen again.
