Opening Final Cut HD
I've installed the software successfully along with "Live Type" and "Soundtrack". The other two programs open and work fine but when I click on the Final Cut icon all I get is the startup screen then nothing. It simply goes back to my desktop screen. I have downloaded the updates and tried re-installing the software. Any ideas?
Cheers
Reinstall JUST FCE again but before you do it, completely UNINSTALL it like this to get rid of any crud that's messing up your installation process:-
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301182
You don't need to bother with the LiveType and Soundtrack elements as they appear to be OK.

I just updated my RAM (replaced the two 2 gig cards with two Corsair 8 gig cards) and I keep getting a crash report. I have a 21.5 Inch mid 2010 imac. I also am experiencing slow load times with Photoshop and when I try to open Final Cut it says that quartz extreme is not compatible and that I have no VRAM even though I do.
Here is the crash report:

The recommendation on here, mostly, is to only buy RAM from macsales.com or crucial.com as they guarantee their modules will work and offer a no quibble lifetime guarantee.
I'd put the original RAM back in, return the Corsair chips for a refund and re-order from one of those two companies.

I can't open Final Cut because of huge project
Hey everyone,
I'm working on a timelapse project in 10.0.9 on my MacPro5,1 with OSX 10.9 (13A603). I have the OS, final cut and the project and event files running on a 240 solid state SATA drive within the tower. AND lastly I have 16gb of RAM
So basically my problem is that this timelapse project is about 33gb large and when opening Final Cut it lags for anywhere between 2 and 5 hours to open. Once it is open I have to wait for the project to load which takes no time at all (1 minute or so). But when I start playback, pause and then try to play again I get the spinning beach ball of death.
I know my project is immense, but this can't be the biggest project of all time. Especially with the new RED cameras and RAW 4k footage. So what am I doing wrong? I don't want to throw out and start all over, but at the same time I know that that is a possibility that I'm going to have to cope with.
Also I've done the Repair Permissions, Repair disk and cleaned many extra unnecesary files within the computer already. So that's not an issue.
Can anyone help me? I'm supposed to have the project done by this Saturday, November 30th, 2013.
I appreciate any and all help. For a start try trashing the preferences with this free app.
http://www.digitalrebellion.com/prefman/
Shut down FCP X, open PreferenceManager and in the window that appears:-
1. Ensure that only FCP X is selected.
2. Click Trash and the job is done.
Perfectly safe as the preferences are separate from the app and when you re-open FCP X it will create new ones.
Many weird things happen as a result of corrupt preferences which can create a vast range of different symptoms, so whenever FCP X stops working properly in any way, trashing the preferences should be the first thing you do. -
Wont let me open final cut studio-missing hardware
when i try to open final cut studio a message comes up saying missing hardware 512mb ram, but i have this on my computer.
do i need more ram?
what will make it work?
any help would be greatfully appreciatedWelcome to the forums.
Yes, you need more RAM. FCP needs MINIMUM 512 MB Ram, and your system right now is taking up half of what you have. 1.5GB is the min RAM I recommend for running FCP. 2.5GB to be comfortable...3.5GB to be stylin'.

I have a MacBook Pro , Model Identifier MacBook Pro8,2 , MAC OX S 10.7.4
I noticed that if I open Final Cut Projects created on other/older models MacBook Pro Laptops or MacPro Desktops, the fonts used in the previously created FCP projects, change their font spacing! which distorts the look of the Text that was written, by oevrlapping on other things that were put & present on the screen.. Another similar probelm is that the Vector shaped used for example to highlight certain words or shapes, also change their position on the screen so that they no longer highlight exact things that we once used these vectors to highlight or outline... Anyone knows how to solve this problem please?? I made sure that the same fonts are available in the Library in both old and newer computers...
thanks in advance..You might want to take your question to the FCP forum - if you copied all fonts to your Library>Fonts folder and restarted they should be recognized by all applications. I know that this works for Adobe products, anyway.

Can't open Final Cut Pro after the migration
I bought a new iMac (21.5 inch: 3.2 GHz) and migrated all the files from my old iMac, which I brought in 2006 or so. When I tried to open Final Cut Pro (Version 5.0.4), an error message shows up and says "Final Cut Pro quit unexpectedly" and I can't even open the application. Here are the details. Can anyone help me fix this problem? Thanks.

Never migrate a pro app.
In your case the underlying issue is v5 is not compatible with intel processors
The solution is to purchase the upgrade to the current version, erase your hard drive and install the system and pro apps fresh from the disks

when i opened final cut pro x, everything was gone.
so this means that all my work isn't completely gone?
Your work will still be there, you just have to go through Updating your older pre 10.1. stuff to the new Library model way of doing things.
Follow Tom's suggestions to the letter and things should go smoothly.

I can't open final cut pro.
I tried many times but always same message.
During reading audio filter "GSP-1101" then stop and error message shows.
GSP-1101 is digitech guitar multi effect for. I erase that app but still same.

Trouble opening Final Cut Express
I'm borrowing a friends imac while my macbook pro is off for service. When I first got it the Final Cut Express worked perfectly. Now whenever I try to open Final Cut Express I get the message that the camera is not connected and when I tell it to continue it shuts down suddenly. I've tried to open it with the camera connected but it does the same thing. I've also tried to click on a saved project and open it but that didn't work either. Does anyone have any idea of what might be going on?
ThanksThanks for answering. The imac is a 1ghz pc g4 with 256 ram. The Final Cut Express says that is version 1.0 (not for resale) so it must have come loaded on there from apple. I'm not sure how I could trash the preferences. The program doesn't stay open long enough for me to get in there. I tried to go to preferences when the message came up that it couldn't find the camera but it was grayed out. And once I click on continue that's when it closes down.

I cannot open final cut. I got a message saying my HD was full and I needed to delete files in order to continue, so I did but since then I have not been able to open Final cut x. All I get is the mac loading wheel. Any ideas why I can't open it?
Thanks again for all your help Tom,
Have now trashed and then reinstalled the application, it is opening. It now stalls when it is trying to load my previous projects.
I realise now what I did wrong, I deleted files from 'All my files' that fcpx is now trying to find, that is why it was not opening to begin with.
How do I get fcpx to open with all the files that it can find, without stalling while trying to find projects that it cant find? -
I am new to Final Cut and macs, so please bear with me.
I have created an animation in Final Cut pro (5) using stills. The project takes up a lot of space, which is why I have moved the 'Final Cut Documents' file onto my external hard drive. However, I relocated/reconnected the project files when I next opened the project and all was peachy.
Last night when I had the project open I got errors about not being able to save the project. This was my first problem, but is now insignificant compared to this new problem this morning:
I cannot open Final Cut. I have an error saying 'The Waveform Cache Files Folder does not have read/write access. Please select a new folder in the System Settings Dialog or correct the problem on disk'. Final Cut then proceeds to shut down, so I cannot change any user settings within the program.
I have made all Final Cut folders read/write as well as my external hard drive and anything else with Final Cut on it. It still presents this warning.
A final confession: last night in (I think?) User Preferences I changed some of the settings to my external hard drive (I'm not even sure what settings...I just checked boxes next to the Hard Drive and unchecked a box next to the laptop drive), hoping it would just save the project to it, rather than on my laptop. This may have contributed to this new problem...maybe not.
PLEASE HELP...this animation is due Monday. Thanks for your reply - it sounds like it will work, but I can't delete one of (yes, I made multiple copies, but have been able to delete the others) the Waveform Cache Folders as it comes up with the error "The operation cannot be completed because one or more required items cannot be found. (Error code -43)." Is this the cause of my problems? How do I fix it?

Can't open Final Cut X - Stop Responding with Event
Im working on a project for over a year, and suddenly I can't open Final Cut with my project and event.
It stops responding while loading my event.
I already changed the location of the biggest files (original media and renders), so I just have my event and my project files on the final cut folders.
I've tried to open this in another computer, but it still didn't work.
When I erase my event and project, there's no problem with Final Cut.
Any suggestion?
Thank you!Why are you moving folders around?
Was FCPX acting abnormally before you moved these folders?
What do you mean by "erase my event and project"?
Russ -
Can anyone help me resolve a problem with opening Final Cut. I get the message "The application Final Cut Pro quit unexpectedly". I've tried using the FCP Rescue utility as well as tried to reinstall the software (though setup didn't give me an option to reinstall).
Is there a way I can uninstall the software without losing any files and reinstalling from scratch. Any suggestion would be helpful.
Thanks,
CommaletaMichaelG's question of what shows up on the splash is important... maybe it's trying to load an AE plugin that isn't compatible -- find that one and remove it from the plugin folder...
however -- not sure this helps YOU at THIS time but...
Here's what I like to do (short of a full reinstall) when FCP crashes:
When FCP Quits...
Do these in order and you might not have to do them all:
1) Trash Preferences FCPRescue - http://fcprescue.andersholck.com/
2) Repair Permissions - DiskUtility
3) Type this in your terminal window (without the quotes) and hit enter: "sudo update_prebinding -root / -force"
4) Unplug everything and wait
5) Create New User
Good luck,

Can't open Final Cut Pro anymore. HELP!!!
I can't open my Final Cut Pro. When I click to open it, a message comes up saying, "Final Cut Pro quit unexpectedly." It tells me to click reopen to open the application, but every time I click reopen, the same message screen comes back. I can't open Final Cut. I need help.
I am having same exact problem.
It was working fine for years, and all of a sudden, after a Mac Os X Software Update it will NOT open, ( I think this may have caused the problem, however I am not sure)

ANY HELP AT ALL?? -
I can't open Final Cut Pro X. The problem seemed to start when I deleted some old backups. Help?
Close FCP X and re-open holding the Option key.
This will allow you to create a new Library, do so.
If the newly created Library works OK then there is a corruption issue in the current one that doesn't open.
Try a backup, usually found in your Home>Movies folder.

Why can't I open final cut pro x
I moved one of my libraries in FCPX and haven't been able to open the program since. It starts to open, then just sits on "resoring with window layout."
HELP!Thanks, Russ. I figured it out. (Google is a wonderful thing.)
Apparently, when I was moving things around -- yes, in Finder -- I messed with the folder that saves your preferred window layouts for each project. I didn't even know that existed.
Basically, I followed the steps perscribed on the FCPX site, which had me locate the layouts folder, deleted the folder, and opened Final Cut from scratch. Once I deleted the folder, it opened on the first try...and I could breath again.
