Opening Firefox 6.0 starts up to 8 Firefox windows

When I click on the Firefox shortcut, it opens up to eight blank Firefox windows.
If I click through them to close them all, then relaunch Firefox 6.0 it opens one less window (i.e. 7).
It would appear that this behavior continues, with the window count decrementing each time by one window, until eventually it opens just a single blank window (i.e. nothing in the URL bar)
Closing and re-opening one final time will open with the last remembered tabs (i.e. the expected behavior having closed a window with open tabs)
I've also noticed that the back button doesn't appear to work on the blank windows, I can browse fine with each instance but clicking back, or pressing backspace doesn't work.
OS: Windows 7
Browsers: Firefox 6.0, Chrome 13.0.782.215 m and IE 9
Firefox Addons: Firebug 1.8.1 / Roboform 7.4.2

Had deleted '''HideMyIP-P''' from computer recently, and didn't have problems untill I re-started computer... Which, come to think of it now, wasn't until a few days after deleting ''''HMIP-P''''... (computer is 'on' 24/7).
Then, on start-up, it wouldn't allow FireFox to connect to the Internet.
After reading through the website you recommneded, which mentiond ''HideMyIP-P'', I re-Installed ''HMIP-P'', then turned the "hiding" 'off' and was allowed(!) with FireFox to connect again.

Check that you do not run Firefox as Administrator.
Right-click the Firefox desktop shortcut and choose "Properties".
In the Compatibility tab, make sure that Privilege Level: "Run this program as Administrator" is not selected.
You also need to check the Properties of the firefox.exe program in the Firefox program directory.
If you can't make the changes then you need to start Windows Explorer as Administrator.

  • How to make one firefox window`s actions duplicate on all opened firefox windows. duplicating tabs only opens the original source of page, not current page view

I want to know is there a way to open, say 3, Firefox windows and duplicate the actions done on one to happen across all open Firefox windows. I want to use the repeat feature, left click followed by ENTER the whole time on a current thing I'm working on. The tabs won't work because I have to flip through them the whole time. I'm currently doing this on two computers at the same time but need an easier way. If I duplicate tabs, it only opens the original source of the page I duplicate and not the current page I'm viewing so its a time taking process to click on the links where I need to be then start doing the control+tab. Speed is a major issue so any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I am still trying to figure out what it is you are trying to do.
You have X number of pages open, and you want what you do to one page
to also be repeated on the other pages? Most browsers think that multiple
    pages are individual, and separate.
What is it you are working on? No secured information, please.

  • On a Windows PC, is there any way to cycle through open Firefox windows? (MAC can do this via(Shift) Cmd + ~) p.s. running windows8 atm

I was wondering if there was any way to cycle through open Firefox windows on current Window similar to the following answered question for Appe OS users...
To clarify active windows:(as in ctrl+N) as opposed to a new tab:(ctrl+T).
There was a previously answered thread about this but it concerned those running MAC OS users running firefox.
I was wondering the same thing but for Windows users(currently running windows8).
Here is verbatim what the answer of the previous post was for MAC users...
"On Mac you should be able to cycle through open Firefox windows via (Shift) Cmd + ~ (Tilde) or possibly accent (`)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1343
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH4182 OS X Lion: If a keyboard shortcut doesn’t work
System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard Shortcuts > Keyboard & Text Input
"Move focus to next window in application" should be checked."
    Thank you in advance!

On Windows it is not possible to only cycle through the open windows of one application like you can on Mac.
On Windows you can only cycle through windows of all open applications via (Shift) Alt+Tab.

  • Why do I get multiple security machine dialog boxes when I open Firefox, Windows and Mac?

Whenever I open Firefox, I am asked for my security machine password multiple times. Seems to be connected to how many tabs open (on Windows) and is always three (3) on Mac. I have Sxipper.

Strange, since Google is unlikely to do that. Maybe it was an bundled installer masquerading as the official one?
To start your clean-up efforts, please check your home page setting. Do you get the 3 tabs when you press Command+n to launch a new window? If so, the extra URLs may be tacked on to your home page setting in the Preferences dialog. These articles describe where to find that. Note that it can be difficult to see the full details of that field due to limited space available, so often it is easier to delete it all and paste in just the URL you want.
    * [[Startup, home page and download settings]]
    * [[How to set the home page]]
Next, please check your extensions, as they can override your settings. I suggest disabling ALL nonessential or unrecognized extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:
    * Command+Shift+a
    * Tools menu > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, if in doubt, disable. (Or if obviously bad, remove.)
Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.
    Any improvement?

  • How can I save tabs with two open Firefox windows?

I have two windows of Firefox open; one for tabs of websites I visit regularly and another with tabs for chat rooms. It is a pain having to open these chats on a regular basis which is why I'm wondering if there's a solution to this. Is it possible to save tabs for both windows when closing Firefox?

Use "Firefox > Exit" or "File > Exit" to close all open windows at once. That is always better then using the close X and is the only way to restore more than one window on a next start via session restore.

    SW,
I don't know what the problem is with your corrupt/unopenable document on CD. I wonder if you can display it with QuickLook.
Select the file in Finder and hit the Spacebar. If the file is displayed properly, you can capture it as an image with Grab.app or by Shift-Command-4, > drag capture box.
Not knowing the complexity of your document, it's difficult to say what you should do next. I'd submit the graphics to an OCR application and extract the text, to be used in reconstructing the original document.

  • How do i open firefox window "about home" to be able to use it?

  • Mac 10.7, when I close firefox window and later open firefox window it opens with blank page in English

After closing a window with sidebar bookmarks open and later returning to firefox I have to open a new window and re-add my sidebar bookmarks

    Hi Andis.
First of all, this is completely normal behavior, although it's a bit irritating, I know. What happens is that when you close Firefox, despite the window disappearing right there and then, Firefox keeps running for a little bit until the whole closing procedure is completed. This can take a fraction of a second on fast computers, or can take a few seconds on slow computers or when Firefox is storing a large session (if you save your tabs). All you have to do is wait a bit until Firefox closes, and then open it again.
To see if it's still running, you can press CTRL+SHIFT+ESC and then, under the Processes tab, you can see if firefox.exe is still there. If it's taking an unusual amount of time to close (which happens very rarely, and only if the browser freezes on exit), you can force the application to terminate from this application (task manager).
Firefox 4.0 will reduce by 97% the time it takes firefox.exe to close, so this problem will be basically erased for Firefox's next version.
Until then, I can recommend you this extension, which helps you restart your browser more easily and without bothering about closing times:
    https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3559/
    Hopefully this will help.

  • Why am I gettting this message EVERY time I open Firefox: Firefox is having trouble recovering your windows and tabs. This is usually caused by a recently opene

This issue started about 3 days ago.

hello, this may also be the current problem in firefox 20 that when you first close all open firefox windows and then close the application afterwards it is mistaken for a crash - the bug should be addressed in a later version of firefox.
as a workaround in the meanwhile you could close firefox (through firefox > quit) while the browser window is still running or try this: enter about:config into the firefox location bar (confirm the info message in case it shows up) & search for the preference named '''browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash'''. double-click it and change its value to '''false'''.

  • Can't delete Firefox 4 Get message to close open Firefox. It's not open.

If I try to update Firefox 4 or try to Remove it from my computer, I get a message telling me to close Firefox and retry. How can I close a program that is not open.

Firefox sometimes does not shut down completely. In these cases, if you don't want to restart Windows, you can "kill" Firefox using the Windows Task Manager.
Press Ctrl+Alt+Esc to call up the Task Manager. Depending on your Windows 7 permissions, this might not work smoothly, but hopefully it will.
Check the Applications tab for any open Firefox windows. If there is one, switch to it and close Firefox normally.
Next check the Processes tab. Firefox.exe should close down within 15-30 seconds after you close the program and it completes its file maintenance. If it lingers, you can select it and End Process. You also could look for plugin-container.exe, which is a process used to run Flash, QuickTime, and various other plugin content.
After that, Firefox should start up without error, although it may apologize for crashing.
    Any luck?
If this happens frequently, please post back for preventive suggestions.

  • Can't open Firefox. When I try to open, a window pops saying "Close Firefox" and "A copy of Firefox is already open. Only one copy of Firefox can be open at a time.", and doesn't allow the application to open.

When I try to open Firefox, window pops up saying "Close Firefox" and, "A copy of Firefox is already open. Only one copy of Firefox can be open at a time."

  • Can't see my Firefox window and tabs, but they are somehow open

Yesterday I had a single Firefox window (with approx. 20 tabs) open, and then the window disappeared. I figured that I'd lost all my tabs.
When I opened a new window, and attempted to check my Outlook mail, I got the message "There was a problem opening your mailbox. You may have already signed in to Outlook Web App on a different browser tab. If so, close this tab and return to the other tab." I am now hearing a *ding* whenever I get a new email. However, I cannot find the window or tab in which my Outlook is open! It's like the Firefox window is invisible or hiding somewhere.
If possible, I'd like to locate this invisible Firefox window, and not have to re-locate all the websites I had open in the tabs. I've opened the Windows Task Manager, but it doesn't show any open Firefox applications.
Any ideas? Where is this open Firefox window hiding?

    Thank you much!
