Opening firefox routine
Since v6.02 hit my system, EVERY TIME I start firefox it goes through that annoying, time consuming, add-on check, and then takes me to that stupid pointless useless even more annoying "welcome to firefox" page, just to let me know my "firefox is up to date"
I am sick and tired of this, it only used to do this one time after each of the many and pointless annoying updates. One time is more than enough, I assure you!!! MAKE IT STOP!!!!! BTW, I tried chat, every day this week, during the hours posted, and I am yet to have it display anything except "closed". Why have that if it is never manned???

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).
If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:
* Click the menu button , click Help and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.
If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:
* On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode <br>(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".
;
If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.
To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help others with the same problem.

Firefox will not open. If I click the icon I get a less than oe second flash of Firefox on the bar and then its quickly changes to Finder.
I have tried many different User names/Passwords that I no longer know which one is used. Please I have spent hours just trying to get connected to Firefox and cannot do it. I need to open Firefox for some documents for my job or I will lose the job. I wrote
all of this to you last night and was told than I was connected. Today I connected the old proxy and think that I have cleared that up. Should I drop the old Icon in trash, throw it away and start with either 3.6 or beta. I really need some help and will

I was updating Firefox to the newest version 7.0.1 from version 6.0.2 I think it was, I clicked the restart Firefox button that always comes up after updating. It started updating and then Firefox never restarted like it was supposed to after it was done updating. I then tried to open Firefox and it told me "This application has failed to start because xul.dll was not found." I did have Firefox crash on maybe about 30 minutes or so earlier which bothered me because I have been using Firefox for years and never had it crash on me before but I didn't think much of it at the time it happened because I was able to go back onto Firefox and finish what I had been working on. A while later I checked for updates and updated. The first time I tried to update it didn't work though so I had to shutdown Firefox and reopen Firefox and start the update a second time. It was after the second time that when I tried to open Firefox I got that message about failing to start because xul.dll can't be found. I filed a crash report when my Firefox crashed. This would have been around 1am-2am in the morning that Firefox first crashed and then wouldn't allow me to open it after updating. I have a DELL laptop running the Windows XP operating system but the laptop is probably at least 6 or 7 years old. The laptop will no longer charge so I always have to have it plugged into an outlet. Both my laptop hard drive and my external hard drive give me messages that I am running out of disk space on my hard drive. I bought this laptop 6 or 7 years ago second hand so it could be even older. In short it's a piece of crap and it gives me all kinds of issues but I currently can't afford a new one, but I have never had any problems with Firefox and I use Firefox more than any other aspect of my laptop so it's really really bothering me. May you please help me fix it?
Unfortunately I tried that and it didn't work. Thanks for the help though. I tried to uninstall and it said I couldn't because the file is corrupt or something, but I think I finally got it uninstalled and/or deleted or whatever, but now I try to reinstall/download it again from the beginning and I can't. No matter what I do I can not get Firefox working again. No matter how many times I try to redownload it. Any other suggestions?

What happened first is Firefox was revving and using most of my CPU, ultimately "not responding" too easily and for too long, so I closed it in order to reopen it, but Firefox remained running in background (Task Mgr, Processes) after closing, continuing to use almost all my CPU, so I ended the process in Task Mgr.
When I went to re-open it, window opened and told me Firefox could not be opened because another "instance"(?) was still running, to close it or restart Windows. I couldn't close it because I already closed it AND ended the process, so I restarted Windows.
When I tried to open Firefox, I got the same pop-up. I think I restarted Windows one more time, and then uninstalled Firefox, except for my personal settings (in order to save the bookmarks, which I couldn't find in the Firefox folder in Program Files (only Favorites, which were not my bookmarks; I later wondered if they were part of the Firefox add-on "Add This" --??).
I then uninstalled Firefox and re-installed it. When I tried to start the newly re-installed program, I had the same pop-up telling me Firefox was already running and to close it or restart Windows.
I searched my computer folders for anything that might help, did a Search of the computer for "Firefox", and was given some Firefox folders and if they weren't from the new re-install, I deleted them. One thing I noticed was that the program folder did NOT have the program (Firefox.exe) icon to start Firefox.
I uninstalled Firefox and had to resort to using Internet Explorer, which I do NOT like. My rich library of bookmarks are who knows where.
I don't know if this is related, but in searching my computer's Administrative Services and Component Tools (and the like) hoping to find something that would help me fix Firefox, I inadvertently learned that "MMC could not create the snap-in. The snap-in might not have been installed correctly. Name: .NET Framework 1.1 Config."
Please help me get Firefox back and figure out what is going on in my computer that led to this. I am a basic user and not techno-computer saavy, so if anyone can help me with this, please give me step-by-step bonehead instructions.
Thank you so much for any help you can offer!Make sure that Firefox is set as the default browser.

It started a year ago when I opened Firefox I got an error message, so I removed firefox & re-installed it. Still no go! So I opened "C" drive & searched for anything "firefox" & found a 2002 version!! I deleted everything, restart, & installed firefox and what I get now is what you see above.
OS is XPpro, sp3 + many updates.Do a clean (re)install:
* Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
* http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/all.html
* Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
* Don't remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
* It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox. -
Uninstall to my prior version is not working. I need to go back to the original version for two reasons. First, I can no longer use one of the toolbars that was compatible to previous version, but is no longer supported so it was disabled, and two when I try and open firefox from any short cut, I get a solid white screen and I do not get any toolbars nor is there any way to navigate to a tabbed option since I can not see anything and it just hangs there with out going to my homepage or anything else.
Do you see the menu bar or anything else? As for the missing toolbar, this is the case for 90% of Firefox users, for instance the Google Toolbar. To restore it, you need to install Mozilla's Add-On Compatibility Reporter extension from https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/15003 and restart Firefox twice.
As for the white screen, I am not sure what you mean, but your install looks corrupted, you probably need to uninstall Firefox and reinstall from scratch. You may spend too much time and effort otherwise. Back up your settings first if you have any, like Firefox bookmarks. -
I have 20+ tabs always open on Firefox and it's set to remember them. However, when I open Firefox the first tab changes from what I had open there into my homepage, Google. I can use the "go backward" thing to get to the page I had there, but since it goes back to Google every time I restart the browser that gets tedious.
The only way to solve this that I've found is to just stop trying to use the first tab and let it be Google. However, I'd like some actual solution that stops this from happening if possible. Thanks for the reply, it seems to have solved my issue.
My tabs are normal and unpinned, I just have Firefox set to open all my current tabs. Safe Mode didn't seem to have this issue, so I disabled Classic Theme Restorer. Several restarts didn't have problems, so I enabled it again and now this isn't happening anymore. Hopefully it stays gone for good and didn't just stop momentarily.
Edit. So as soon as I posted this, it started happening again. More testing definitely points to Classic Theme Restorer as the cause, so I'll have to investigate solutions on that end. -

I have another kind of problem with Firefox
Description
This problem only occurs the first time I open Firefox after turning on the computer, but it occurs EVERY time I turn on the computer. Every time I turn on the computer and open Firefox, none of my add-ons are seen as updated or installed (although they are all updated and compatible). I need to "find and install updates" then restart Firefox. Once this has been done, I can open and close Firefox with no problems, but it only works fine until the next time I re-boot and I have to go through that all again.

I upgraded to the latest version of Mozilla Firefox and ever since then, every time I open Firefox it asks me if I want to allow Mozilla to make changes to my hard drive. I have to answer "Yes" or else it won't open Firefox. Then when I open my AOL Webmail and try to browse for an attachment, it freezes up the browser window and I have to open the Task Manager to close Firefox. I have now gone back to Internet Explorer which does not have either one of these problems.
Maybe just corrupted Disk Utility preferences ...
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.DiskUtility.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.DiskUtility.plist file to the Trash.
Restart your Mac then try creating a .dmg file. -
I restarted my Firefox this morning and it automatically updated to version 9.0.1. Since that update, I am unable to open Firefox. When I try to open it (and this is on a Mac), it does not respond and freezes with a white screen, the tab says "connecting...," and there are no bookmarks or anything showing on the browser. It does not respond at all - I cannot even click into the navigation to change any of the preferences. Please, someone help! Not having Firefox is killing me!
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

I was using Firefox just fine as I have been for years, and when I tried to open it today after restarting the machine, it froze the computer almost completely (mouse works, but clicking it anywhere does nothing and ctrl + alt + del does not work). Sometimes even the mouse ceases to work. The only way to react to this is to shut down the system by cutting the energy (On/Off button) as I have waited up to 5 minutes and the system does not recover.
I have tried opening the Safe Mode dialog box (start -> run -> firefox -safe-mode) and choosing the options to disable extensions and toolbars and "reset user preferences to FF defaults" and click "apply and restart" and the computer freezes. If I hit the "continue with Safe Mode" button instead, I get to see the FF screen with a blank tab on it but the computer freezes as well.
I am completely baffled by this sudden problem. I am having to type this from Google Chrome and thus I cannot supply troubleshooting information, sadly. I am sure it is not conflict with antiviruses because I have not installed any new firewalls or antiviruses before the problem started.
I tried downloading Firefox 8.0 and installing it (was previously on 7.0) but it didn't help at all. I also tried running FF with Windows on Safe Mode, but the freeze still happens.
Please help me, my life depends on ReminderFox reminding me of stuff and now I can't access it :,-(. I need FF back ASAP!
Thanks a whole lot!
Addendum: The freeze is also happening at random even without opening Firefox, it has a chance of happening when I click something. My computer has frozen when I: 1- clicked the "reveal desktop" button to minimize all windows; 2- Attempted to close a tab in Chrome; 3- Clicked "play" in a Youtube video that had been loaded and waiting for some time). It will also almost always freeze when I leave it idle for more than about 10 minutes.
But it will guaranteedly freeze when trying to open FF, which doesn't happen with any other program.
I think my computer is breaking down. :(Addendum: The freeze is also happening at random even without opening Firefox, it has a chance of happening when I click something. after a system restart, when I open Firefox, a new tab appears with My Yahoo displayed. I have my options set to restore session/tabs, with my home page listed as blank [not the best, i know]. I have not installed any new programs, other than Norton, to 2010 and have only done updates as required.

The other day I opened firefox after the latest update in September. Firefox then closes and then i get logged off and vista(32 bit) restarts. I get back to login and when I try to login it gives me the blue screen and restarts again with the selection screen (start in safe mode....)I was able to login on safe mode and then on admin afterwards. Thinking the problem was just an error I went back and opened firefox on my account and the loop started again. I was forced to remove firefox but I want ti back and I want to know how this can be fixed so I can put it back on my computer.
