Opening Flash 8 file in MX 2004?

Is there any way I can open a Flash 8 file in Flash MX 2004?
I'm taking a class and they're using Flash 8 at school. I brought
the file home and it says "Unexpected file format" when I'm trying
to open it. I am assuming this happens because I use MX 2004 on my
home computer. Is there anything I can do about that?
Thanks.

From Flash 8 : file - Save As - (save as type) Flash 8 or MX
2004
Take note tho, latest components used in version 8 won't be
compatible
with down saving so not all content will work properly. This
option
works only if flash 8 uses MX 2004 abilities and not higher
than that.

  • Open Flash 8 file with MX 2004

I am teaching a web design class and the student files that
came with the book are a newer version than what I am using. I am
using Flash MX 2004 and assume the files are either Flash 8 or CS3.
Is there anyway to get MX to open the new file?
    Thanks,
    Paula

    sorry - typed too fast:
    Save As...from Flash 8 to MX 2004 - if CS3 Save As...to Flash
    8, open in Flash 8, Save As...to MX 2004.
Also - search the forum before posting - there was a
discussion about this in the past 12 hours.
been many discussions over the years as well. It is also
    covered in help docs.
    Hope this helps.

  • Open Flash CS5 file in CS4

    Hey all,
I think I know the answer to this, but ... Is there any way I can open a CS5 file in CS4? A designer I'm working with created some files using her CS5. She's on vacation for 2 weeks (so I can't have her edit or resend the files as CS4) and I just got an email that the client needs a couple tweeks and all I have is CS4. Is there any way (or any program) that can backwards convert a CS5 file?
    Thx.

If you had access to CS5 you could save as CS5 or save as CS4 (but not CS3 or below).  But opening a CS5 Flash file in Flash CS4 produces a "unexpected file type" error.

  • Can't open flash/fla files (with CS4) - might be version issue

    Hi,
I am trying to edit a website for a friend (built with Flash and XML) and i can't seem to get into any of the .Fla files.
I don't know if it is my version of Flash (CS4) or the files and not sure how i could test it. Could also just be a CS5 file hence i can't open it.
Any help or suggestions would be great. Please help i don't know what to do, haha.
Here is an upload of one of the files i am talking about
    http://www.2shared.com/file/kb2NKm0i/book-verification.html
I wasn't sure which hosts were allowed so if i messed up please let me know.
    Thanks
    Asher

    Hi Asher,
You  cannot open a file which is saved in future version such as CS5  version  in Flash CS4 .This is as designed .
If you need to open a CS5 file in CS4 , You need to save the file as CS4 file  and then open in Flash CS4 .
    Thanks

can any one guide me about new flash player for the power mac.....
if this can be happend by manually so just let me know the steps which can be done manually.
    Thanks in advance for support
    Kristen Stewart.

You can check here:  http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/  to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS. Note that version 10,1,102,64 is the last version available to PPC Mac users*. The latest version, 10.3 or later, is for Intel Macs only, as Adobe no longer support the PPC platform. Version 11.0.1.152 is for Lion.
    * Unhelpfully, if you want the last version for PPC Macs, you need to go here:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html  and scroll down to 'Archived Versions/Older Archives'. Flash Player 10.1.102.64 is the one you download. More information here:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/838/cpsid_83808.html
You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/909/cpsid_90906.html
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.
(If you are running a PPC Mac with Flash Player 10.1.102.64 and are having problems with watching videos on FaceBook or other sites, contributor Texas Mac Man suggests the following solution which fools the site into thinking that you are running the latest version:)
Download this http://www.steelbin.com/FPforFBPPC.zip to your desktop, unzip it, and replace the current Flash Player plug-in which is in your main/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, (not the user Library). Save the old one just in case this one doesn't work.

  • Opening Flash CC files in CS5

So I have Flash CC and I am working on a school project. However, the school computers only have CS5, which won't open CC files, and I don't know anyone with CS6. Is there any other way to open a CC .fla file in Flash CS5?

You could download the trial version of CS6 (or someone you know could) and use it to save back to CS5.

  • Can't open Flash 8 files

Everytime I try to open a Flash 8 document, by
double-clicking or through Flash, I get the warning "Failed to open
    document. /document_name."
I could open this document yesterday, no problem. I'm on a G5
    running 10.4.6. I did upgrade J2SE 5.0 Release 4 this morning,
which I believe is an upgrade to JavaScript. And I think that's
    causing the problem.
If I click on a document in the Flash 8 Start Page, I get the
message above, plus, "While executing , the following JavaScript
    error(s) occurred: Cannot find file:////document_name."
Has anyone else seen or heard of this problem.
    Steve

    Still looking for an answer.

  • 6110 Navigator cannot open Flash (.swf) files

Everytime I attempt to open one I receive the message
"Not enough memory to open file"
I understand that this is due to a lack of RAM but how do I get this to work?

    Hi@ all
The hardware of the Nokia 6110 Navigator:
    Processor: ARM11, 369 MHz
    RAM: 40MB
Maybe the Flashplayer is buggy, but i think the hardware is overstrained showing large .swf or .pdf files.
Perhaps the installed Realplayer (playing mp4 and 3gp videofiles) uses less RAM then the Flashplayer?
I dont think there would be any fix - cause i think the problem is the hardware.
I think all you can do is converting the files on your home computer into mp4 or 3gp. mp4 takes a lot of space on your micro sdcard - so i would convert to 3gp.
Same with the pdfviewer - i think it takes to much RAM showing large files.

  • How to publish flash 8 lesson for scorm 2004

How can we publish a flash 8 file for scorm 2004? when i try
to publish as .swf or html it does not give me and xml file for the
    reference ...?

Not sure what you mean by "does not give me and xml file for
the reference" but if you are asking about the imsmanifest.xml and
associated .xsd and .dtd files, you need to generate these or use a
packager like Reload Editor to package your lessons. Go to
    http://www.reload.ac.uk/editor.html

  • Trouble opening Flash MX 2004 files in CS3

Has anyone encountered any problems trying to open orignal
.fla files created in Flash MX 2004 in the CS3 version? I get an
    error stating "unexpected file format".

I tried opening your test file in my version of CS3 and it
shut it down completely - CS3 quit
unexpectedly. Rare for me as I have been using/testing CS3
for months and not seen this issue - i
suspect the file is corrupt in some way but then again it
would open in flash 8 - can you save as
from flash 8 with a new name and upload again?

  • When I try to open a PDF file the reader flashes on the screen then closes

When I try to open a PDF file the reader flashes on the screen then closes. I have to open the reader, then search for the pdf file through the reader. I'm using Adobe Reader 11.0.5 with windows 7 service pack 1 home premium. Is there any way I can just click on a PDF file and the reader automaticaly opens? I purchased the upgrade so I can convert PDF to Word but it didnt make any difference.

    Some things to try...
    Update Reader to version 11.0.06
Using Windows Explorer navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Reader 11.0\Reader, then double-click on Eula.exe and accept the license agreement
Can you open Adobe Reader by itself?  If so, try disabling Protected Mode [Edit | Preferences | Security (Enhanced)].
If you cannot open Reader by itself, try to disable Protected Mode in the registry; download, unzip, then run the attached registry script
It could even be a malware issue; see http://helpx.adobe.com/acrobat/kb/reader-core-dll-error.html

    Wow. Okay...
I'll let the real veterans in this forum tackle your issues one after the other. But, I can tell you, all will be well.
My only comment would be re: your computer specs:
    BJReis wrote:

To be completely honest, FCPX is a RAM hog. It just is. But, RAM is relatively cheap, and the pay-off is good.
4GB is right on the edge, IMHO. 16G is ideal.
I wish you luck, hang in there, and standby for more help.

  • Can't open Flash files on Windows XP

I have Flash Player 9 installed. I can view Flash files
online in my browsers (IE and Firefox), but when I try to open a
Flash file on my computer to just play it in Flash Player, it asks
me what I want to use to open the file. I have searched the support
documents and looked online everywhere, but can't seem to find the
problem. Basically, I can't find the actual Flash Player program
file on my machine. I know it's there, otherwise I wouldn't be able
to view Flash files in the browser, but I can't view them on my
    local machine.
I have tried setting the program associated with .swf files
in folder options to the following, but none of them work. When
associating .swf files with any of these, it says an update for
Flash is available. I go through the update, reboot because it says
it's required, but when I start back up, it just does the same
thing. I cannot open Flash files (.swf) on my computer, only in the
browser and none of the paths I have tried setting .swf files to
open with are actually the Flash Player application. I need to know
where the Flash Player is on Windows XP.
    HELP?!?!?!
    The paths I've tried are:
    C\WINDOWS\stsyem32\Macromed\Flash\Flash9b.ocx
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash\FlashUtil9b.exe
    C:\i386\Flash.ocx
    C:\Program Files\Mozilla
    Firefox\plugins\NPSWF32_FlashUtil.exe
None of them will open Flash files on my local computer. I
have searched my machine, and those are the only paths I can find
that have anything to do with the Flash Player. Even though it's an
Adobe product now instead of a Macromedia product, I can't find
anything for Flash in any Adobe directories, just Macromedia
    directories.
Does anyone know how to remedy this? Has anyone else had this
same problem? Any help would be
    GREATLY
appreciated!!! It seems like I started having this association
problem as soon as Flash was switched from Macromedia to Adobe.
    Thanks!

I found the solution. After searching the web for what seemed
like an eternity, I found the following on a Google Groups page:
    quote:
1 - How can I make my PC play a flash file on my local hard
    drive?
Unless you buy Macromedia Flash (the authoring environment)
you can't play them just straight off, you have to open them with a
browser which has the Flash Player plugin installed. To do this,
either right-click on the .swf and select open with... (internet
explorer) or open IE and then go to file... open.... etc.
Then I realized that I started having the problem about the
time I got my new laptop. I didn't install Flash MX on my new
laptop because I don't really use it anymore, I use Swish, so I
didn't install it because I hate installing programs I don't use.
Anyways, I installed Flash MX on my new laptop and walla, I can
open .swf files on my machine again.
I didn't realize I had to have Flash installed (the program,
not the player) in order to be able to open .swf files on my
machine as opposed to viewing them in a browser. Guess I know now!
I thought I'd post what I found in case anyone else had the
same problem and didn't realize it.
    Thanks!
