Opening folders in new window while in Search mode?
In the Leopard file-search Finder you could double click the folder in the folder's location chain at the bottom of the Finder window and have that folder open in a new window. Now in Snow Leopard it opens it in the same window as it does for all the listed items above. Any way around this?
Hi,
the only way I know of the is to go to file and click for a new Window.
Sounds like tabs maybe your thing, from Safari's Helpviewer. for more info look there.......
To turn on tabbed browsing, choose Preferences from the Safari menu and click Tab. Select Enable Tabbed Browsing.
To open a link or bookmark in the bookmarks bar in a new tab, hold down the Command key and click the item, or hold down the Control key, click the item, and choose Open in New Tab from the shortcut menu.
To open a bookmark collection in the bookmarks bar or a folder of bookmarks in the Bookmarks Library in tabs, hold down the Control key, click the collection or folder, and choose Open in Tabs from the shortcut menu.
If you select the Auto-Click checkbox for a folder in the bookmarks bar, then you can open all the bookmarks in the folder in tabs by clicking the folder name in the bookmarks bar.
To open a webpage in a new tab, choose New Tab from the File menu and type the address for the page.
To close a tab, click the close button in the tab.
To quickly switch between tabs, press Command-Shift-[ and Command-Shift-].
To show a webpage that is in a tab and close all other tabs, hold down the Option key and click the close box in the tab you want to remain open.
When you click a link in a page you are viewing in a tab, the page opens in the current tab. Click the Back and Forward buttons in the address bar to scan pages you have opened in a tab.
If you choose a page from the History or Bookmarks menu, the page opens in the current tab.
Hope it helps you do what i think you are looking for.
Cheers

I want to open folders in new windows on 10.9.4.
This was always my default setting, but it seems to have disappeared. Apple is ******** in changing essential workflows that people have been using for years. There should be 2 options, open in new window, or not. Give us back the option Apple.
http://siggi.hk/index.php?action=TheLostFinderNewWindow
This is a SIMBL plugin that will bring back the old behaviour of always opening folders in new windows, a feature that existed since the first Mac OS in 1984 all the way up to OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion before Apple stupidly removed it in OS X 10.9 Mavericks. This works a treat.

Cannot open folders in NEW WINDOW
Is anyone else having trouble with the Finder not opening folders in a new window? I have gone to Finder preferences, and unchecked the box for "Open Folders in a new tab..." But I still cannot open my folders in a new window. I have thousands of folders, and some are set to open in icon view, some in list view, etc. depending on the contents. But now all that has disappeared. Any suggestions???
As others have said.....first, go to Finder > Preferences and make sure the checkbox is deselected for "open folders in tabs instead of new windows".
Any folder can be opened in a new window by holding down the Command Key while double-clicking the folder. But sooner or later you will forget to hold down that key, and then a folder will open in a tab (which will probably resize the window and cause much aggravation and cursing).
If you're like me and don't like tabs very much, there is a way to make folders always open in windows with a simple double-click. (I'm using Mavericks 10.9.5). Go to any folder on the Desktop, open it, and select View > Hide Toolbar. After that, all folders within that folder will open in a new window. I tried this with the Macintosh HD Folder (which I put on my Desktop) and all folders within it open in new windows with only a double-click.
Of course, you will lose the sidebar and the toolbar, so it's not a perfect solution, but at least you'll be done with tabs. -
How to open page in new window while handling event on link.
Hi all
I have a requirement where page should be opened in new window when I click on link.My item style is 'link'.Despite of mentioning target frame _blank, I m not able to open it in new window.I m handling event by setting Action Type as fireAction.I hope this might be the reason because of that this happened. Can somebody suggest some solution so that I can open it in new window.
Thanks,
BhupendraHi ,
though i am not able to answer, i can get some answer for my question.
How the link item is handled thru the ActionType and event in the Client Action..?
The reason for this question is that we are trying to extend the customer search page in AR - EBSR12. there the search result page has the Account Name as a link and the Action event says viewAccountName and the action type says firePartialAction. I am trying to understand this so that i can add more parameters to the link so that i can use them in the target page of the link..
Any help is appreciated..
Thanks

In the absence of readable guidance from Cupertino I’m still riding bareback on Mavericks, having been rash enough to install it a couple of days ago. And I apologise if any of the following thoughts has already appeared in this website.
1) For some occult reason Quick Look no longer allows me to string QuickTime movie files together for continuous play. A vandal seems to have been at work.
2) Mavericks’ infamous refusal to recognise the (extended) diNovo Keyboard Mac® Edition’s venerable F1 and F2 keyboard tricks for lowering and raising the brightness of the screen has led me to ferret out a trick that does work with the diNovo in Mavericks: fn F14 and fn F15. That trick requires only one hand. Grudging tick, VG.
3) Mavericks’ infamous refusal to recognise a simple double-left-click of the mouse as a way to open a folder in a new finder window has persuaded me to try to get into the habit of using single-right-click and then choosing the first of the options that appear in the little list, “Open in New Window”. That trick requires only one hand, and doesn’t involve the keyboard at all. All I need do is remember not to try the time-honored double-left-click method, which of course still works on my trusty PowerBook with OS 10.5.8.
4) And I now understand why the boys and girls in Cupertino abolished the fully colored file-names or folder-names in the finder: They believed that we wanted to be able to assign more than one tag (formerly known as labels) to certain files or folders with the help of those tiny circular blobs and that we wanted to struggle to distinguish the blobs of one color from the blobs of another color.Ah. In the case of Quick Look my trouble is more complicated than I describe in my earlier post. I now see that my trouble with QL in relation to QuickTime in Mavericks is that in my main user-account QL happily opens a QT file that I created in that account, and strings together two or more QT files for continuous playing, but that in a second user-account (whose original purpose was to let me test things when I struck a glitch when using my main account) QL refuses to play pretty well any QT file that I created in that second account, and of course refuses to string together pretty well any group of QT files.
And I find that in Mavericks when I do manage to get QL to play a QT file whose aspect-ratio I’ve already corrected permanenty in QL the ratio is (usually? I haven’t determined that yet) wrong when playing the file in QL. That problem doesn’t exist in my PowerBook with OS 10.5.8. My PB works perfectly in all matters to do with compatibility between QT and QL.
I wish I hadn’t caught Mavericks, doctor. Is there a cure? -
Opening new folders in new windows.
After installing mavericks on an imac the folders (in icon view) all open in the same window instead of new windows although the preferences general "open folders in tabs" is unchecked; how do you get all folders to open in new windows?
Thanks in advance,
BurtOPTION+double-click will always open a subfolder in the same window, regardless if you have toolbar showing or not. I prefer the choice, so also have open folders in new window option selected. I'm not as minimalistic as you are.

Setting to open folders in new folders
Upgraded from SL to Mavricks. In SL, there was a preference to open folders in new folders instead of replacing the current open window. Did that go away as an option in Mavericks?
open folders in new folders
To open folders in new Window? Try Finder/Preferences/General - open folders in... Then control click the folder and you can open it in a new Window. -
Search results when accessed always opens in a new window
Hi,
We are using WPC to develop web pages. We have created a Header component that contains the
search option and embedded in the framework so that it is available in all the web pages. An iview has
been created using the Header. The issue we are facing is that whenever the 'Search' button available
on the header is clicked the search results are launched in NEW window rather than within the current
window.
We have made sure that the iView Properties of the Header for "Launch in New Window" options is set
to - "Display in Portal Content Area". But still No luck.
I have also checked for the workprotect mode and it looks fine. Any pointers as to how the search
results can be displayed within the current active window rather than opening in a NEW window? Let me
know if I am missing anything.
We use the EPCM.doNavigate(advancedSearchURL) to launch the search results.Hi Vijaya
You would have to develop your own property renderer that sets the target to parent instead of blank, and create a property based upon the property renderer, and reference this property in the search result layout set.
The desired functionality cannot be obtained through "normal customization" even though some of the iview properties indicates that.
You can search for the documentation with regards to how to create a custom property renderer.
Best regards,

Im having a problem that started today with no changes to my computer. Every search and link I open now opens in a new window which is extremely aggrivating. Can anyone offer any advice on what happened or how to fix this?
If using the menu bar, or after pressing "Alt" key
Tools > Options > Tabs, (check) Open new window in a new tab instead
Firefox red button > Options (in right column) > Options > Tabs > (check) Open new window in a new tab instead
You can make Firefox 4.0.1 look like Firefox 3.6.17, see numbered items 1-10 in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 4.0 look like 3.6)] -

that's the box that controls this. try checking and unchecking it. if that does not help delete the file /users/username/library/preferences/com.apple.finder.plist and then control-option-click on Finder in the Dock and choose "relaunch". this will reset your finder preferences to the defaults and should fix the problem.
Does anyone know how to correct this irritating problem?

How to open a new OAF page in new window while clicking submit button
Dear All
I am facing one problem.I have to pass some parameter in new page only after validation.I can't do validation in processRequest bacause I perform validation after clicking the submit button.
So I have to write redirect code in processForm Request. I can not use simple "Button" bean since I have to set destination uri which could be set only in processRequest. But I can not pass parameter with it in process request.
Thats why I have decided to use submit button but there is not target frame option in property inspector,So I am not able to open it in new window.
Kindly give me some suggestion .
Thanks in Advancehi,
u can use submit button. U need to handle submit button press in processFormRequest method.
if(pageContext.getParameter("Submit"!=null))
// validate your parameter
if parameter u capturing are valid then...
pageContext.setForwardURL(func, params ...............) // check devguide for details
if u want to access these parameter in second page . you can write this logic to processRequest of target page.
U can refer toolbox tutorial drilldown and createpage examples for implementation details.

FF 32.0.1. Moving between tabs that are already open, clicking on one which I have opened before forces it to close and open as a new window, which is a real pain. It seems to happen when I have 4 or 5 open tabs, rather than 2 or 3.
This has only been happening in the last week, after a clean Windows reinstall.
I've searched and found lots of people have problems with new windows opening when they just want a new tab, but this seems to be about opening fresh tabs rather than returning to one that's already open, so I can't find the same problem as I describe. This can happen if you drag a tab slightly down in the browser window while clicking.
Firefox has a feature called tear-off tabs
You can detach a tab from the current window and open it in a new window by dragging a tab in the browser window.
You can also do this via the right-click context menu of a tab: Move to New Window
You can drag that tab back to the tab bar in the original window to undo that detaching.

Editing swfobject.js code so hyperlinks inside the flash widget open in a new window
0down votefavorite
I have a flash calendar widget (code shown directly below) and I do not have access to anything other than the compiled .swf file (no access to .fla).
The widget contains some hyperlinks to other websites, these links are dynamic and changes based on a number of things.
There is also a corresponding swfobject.js file that is used to add functionality to the flash widget. The swfobject.js code is shown further down this post.
Currently, the way the code is now, when I click any of the hyperlinks that are available to me in the widget, the destination website that hyperlink takes me to opens in THE SAME PAGE as the flash widget which is a big problem.
I need to edit the code below so that any hyperlinks that are clicked inside of the flash widget open in a brand new browser window and do not take the user away from the original widget other than opening a new page with new content.
Because the hyperlinks that are available are always changing, the swfobject code below uses some functions and parameters.
I am hoping you can show me exactly what code I must insert, and exactly where I must insert it, in order to alter the behavior that happens so that when a user clicks one of the hyperlinks inside the flash widget, so that the content at the other end of the hyperlink opens in a new window, instead of opening in the same window.
See code below.
Thank you in advance for any help you can provide

I can see the code inside via various decompile tools and it seems that I would need to add the equivalent of <src target=_blank> to some of the lines I have shown below.

I know a lot of decompile tools can get you the code and the .fla but once you edit and re-compile and attempt to replace the original with the new & updated file, the decompiler did not necessarily generate the properly formatted flash pro project file, so compiling it back into an operational .swf often ends in failure.
Do you know or can you recommend a tool that has a very good track record of re-compiling the decompiled modified.fla into a workable and usable .swf? -
Tabs only open in a new window. Ctl T opens a new window NOT a new tab help-last update this problem started 2 days ago. How do I set FF back to open tabs in 1 window?
There is no plus sign and going into optins and changing settings has not worked. I have uninstall FF and reinstall-keeping my personalization-and that was no help.
Right clicking on FF Icon to open a new tab, or going up to FF drop down tab and clicking on new tab both do not work.
Help everything opens a new window not a new tab. there seems to be no way to reset this or to chose a different optin. I just downloaded new tabs at end addon and it didn't do a thing.as a first troubleshooting step - does it work like normally when you open & run firefox in [[Safe Mode|safemode]] by pressing the shift key while you open firefox (all other instances have to be closed before)...
