Opening from sleep. Strange Loading Screen.

So sometimes when I close my lid on my mac, it obviously goes to sleep. I haven't been able to see a pattern yet, but sometimes when I open up my screen/lid, something strange happens. It makes that sound right before the C note when you turn on the computer. Then my log-in screen has a white tint to it, with a loading bar on the bottom. It takes maybe 3 minutes for me to be able to type my password in, to unlock my computer. I wanted to see if Anyone knew why I am having this strange loading screen and if there is anything I can do to fix it. Thanks so much.

After an attempt by the store to reset the SMC over the phone, the % is now down to 98. Was 99 since I bought it last week.
I will try this reset today and check tomorrow morning;
Shut down , unplug charger , wait 15 seconds , plug in charger , restart.
Do you guys think this is the hibernation feature alluded to elswhere?
Would it affect all laptops ? Would hate to go and exchange for a new one only to have the same problem a week later.
I'll work on battery today and see what happens. When I have opened the lid on a few mornings after unplugging the charge it has started fine and quickly, milliseconds , no white screen.

Since a few days my MBP wakes up from sleep by showing a blue screen for 30 seconds or more, instead of jumping to the login window (password needed after sleep)
I looked in the forums for blue screen but found many problems non related to this.
Any ideas?
Could it have to do with the fact that about 4 days ago I upgraded to 4.8 from 4.7?

I have only seen this BLUE SCREEN since I installed this security update.
It's the very latest one.
The Blue Screen is not my only problem:
I have had two system crashes (computer waking up with DARWIN window error, fixed when I re-booted).
Scrolling has slowed down in some applications.
The update in Microsoft Office vX was reverted, yesterday I received a message that said: Welcome to Microsoft Office (how can it welcome me when I have been using it every day for the past 15 years?)
Dashboard: It takes 3 minutes for the Widgets to upload.
SOMETHING is not right with this Security Update. Apple, please HELP!

Firefox 5 crashes to grey screen when opening from sleep mode on computer.

AMD 445 cpu
Gigabyte GA870a-ud3 motherboard.
System OK with windows 4, with windows 5 when system woken from sleep mode, Firefox crashes when I try to run it. Crashes to grey screen. From cold boot it works fine. All other programs work fine. Solution?

Have you tried re-booting? Shut down the iPad completely and then restart it. It has helped me with my iPad 1.

MBP not recovering from sleep / Strange 'freezing' crashing...

I'm having a VERY strange issue here.
Over the past week, my MBP (only 4 months old?) has become suddenly unable to recover from sleep. I'll be watching a movie in FrontRow, 'sleep' it from my Apple remote, and then when it re-awakens, the screen fires up but it's black (as in, the backlight is obviously on and drive/fan spins up, but no image on display).
Then, just tonight, I've been working on some websites, nothing too intensive, maybe running iTunes and Safari in the background alongside 'DreamWeaver', and the whole system just FROZE. I can't type, I can't move the cursor, the screen is completely frozen. I kept waiting for the familiar 'kernel panic' screen to appear or something, but I've never seen any Apple machine do this before...
It's kinda worrying as I'm not particularly stressing the machine or anything.... any ideas??

Try setting your SMC controller - especially if its a wake and sleep related issue.

Likewise in Utilities, open 'Console' to look at your logs. There will be diagnostic messages (I hope) about the crash.
You could also run the activity monitor to make sure processes aren't topping out and hogging the CPU.

My MacBook pro wont wake up from sleep. The screen is blank at all times, but I can hear the fan for 5 sec then everything stops. Please help! I don't kno what to do.

My MacBook pro is about 3 yrs old. It is a 2008 model right before the new design came out. Recently I closed it up which puts it to sleep and a couple minutes later when I opened it up the screen stayed blank but could hear the fan running but then the power clicked like it was shutting down and I could hear nothing more. My power supply is working and I have already tried resetting it. Can anyone help me? I don't live exactly near a Mac store to get help.

Before resorting to an LB change-out, try this, as it has fixed many of the "silver-key" Macbook Pros with wake-from-sleep issues:
1) To get the computer running, do an SMC reset. Instructions here:

Your MBP model uses the first option under the subhead, "Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)"
2) If you get it running, go to System Preferences > Network and select your Airport connection
3) In the result main pane, click the "Advanced..." button.
4) You should be looking at a window with multiple tabs at the top; the "Airport" tab (far left) should be active---if not, make it so.
5) There is a panel showing "Prefered Networks." Use the "minus" button below that window to eliminate any networks that you don't need to access on more than a weekly basis. I'm down to two: the home Airport Extreme Base Station and the network for a museum at which I volunteer once a week.
5) Click "OK" and close System Preferences.
Now try letting it sleep and see it if wakes up.
When this happened to my Late 2007 MBP, I used Console to read system.log and found that, on waking, the compuer was looking for the wireless network at a lodge where I'd stayed weeks earlier and miles away. Clear the morass of old networks and keeping the list short has completely cured my wake-from-sleep issues.
The steps I listed take less time to do than to read, and are within the ability even of novice Mac users.
If that doesn't work, you may need to seek professional help. If you take it to an Apple Store and they recommend a logic board replacement, ask about a "Depot Repair." Instead of replacing the logic board on-site (which will whack you to the tune of US$700-1100), they send the computer to a central Apple refurb facility that fixes whatever they find wrong for a flat fee of about US$315 (last time someone reported using the service here). Turnaround is about one working week, and people who have taken of this service have reported being very pleased with the outcome.
You don't show a geographic location. This service may not be available if you are outside North America.

When trying to log back from sleep mode, the screen behaves as a rotating cube, with the mouse pointer in the top left corner. Hangs.

When the computer in woken from sleep mode we see two login options (bineg used by two users).
But when we try to login, the screen just behaves as a sluggish rotating cube.
Nothing works, we just have to hard boot at this time.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Be sure your Mac is shut down.
Press the power button.
Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Note: If FileVault is enabled under Mac OS X 10.7 or later, you can’t boot in safe mode.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem(s)?
After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

MBP Will not wake properly from sleep-flash of screen and keyboard for a bit every few seconds. Under guest account, wakes up just fine. I also cannot unlock various padlocks to change settings in e.g. system prefs. security? Any help, I'm dyin!

I can't reinstall ML, nor can I create another user (unless I use Terminal, and I'm a novice at best with Terminal).

Upgraded to 4.5.0.127 - phone is now slow to open from sleep

did another upgrade. Everything went smooth. When phone is idle (black screen) and I hit one of the buttons to make it come alive, it takes a couple seconds whereas it use to be immediate. I also notice that with this upgrade there is no memory management under options like the other version. Lastly, I do not have a lot of items loaded on this Pearl. I do have a 2gb card with about 100mb on it. Ay others see this issue?

I have the same issue. It drives me crazy. Sometimes it goes away and sometimes it comes back. But when phone is in sleep, when I press a button, it takes sometimes up to 5 seconds before the screen turns on!

I have down loaded some screensavers, but I am stuck there. I can't get them opened from the down load.

You would be better off contacting the site you downloaded the screensavers from. You may need to run a setup file to install the screensavers. The site you downloaded them from should be able to confirm what you need to do.

Keyboard unresponsive when opening from sleep

No, it's not normal. Sounds like you ran Software Update without running the “Disk Utility” afterwards. For whatever reason, Apple doesn't include the "Repair Permissions" as part of the download process. Anywho, here is the drill so maybe it will help.
Go to: Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility
Select: your Hard Drive
Select: the First Aid tab
Select: Repair Permissions

In Mountain Lion how to keep Dashboard from opening each time awakening from sleep?

Every time awakening from sleep and/or screen saver, the dashboard screen comes up as the opening display, how can I stop this?

Nope.
If you launch Mail, you get mail.
You can only stop if from loading if your DON'T launch Mail.
You can also decide how much to have it load, and how far back.
The other option is to turn off Wifi before you launch Mail.

Screen flickers when resuming from sleep mode

I have a newly brought T430 laptop with the Nvdia graphics card. Sometimes when I resume from sleep mode, the screen flickers before entering into the desktop view.
Is this a problem or normal? I hope nothing is wrong with my gpu. Is there a way to check?

I don't agree. I had no problems at all with my MacBook Pro running Tiger. I initially did an upgrade from Tiger to Leopard and when the problems started I assumed it was a problem with the upgrade. I then completely erased and did a clean install of Leopard. The problem has actually gotten worse since I did the clean re-install.

As I mentioned in my opening post, I've gone through that song and dance more times than I can count. I've closed it, waited for as much as an hour, opened it back up...same problem. I've hard powered it down, closed it, disconnected the AC adapter, removed the battery, opened it, held down the power button for 15 seconds, re-installed the battery, reconnected the AC adapter, pushed the power button, and the display will still be dark. Thin vertical lines appearing on screen, since wakeup from sleep mode.

My Mac G5, 2GHz, DVD-R, 1GB DDR RAM, OSX 10.4.10, ATI RADEON X800 XT has recently developed a display issue. On start-up the screen shows vertical lines across the entire screen. The colors of theses lines is varying from green to black, depending of the background color. The lines are appearing from the grey loading screen and when a profile is logged in.
Shutting down and restarting doesn't cure the problem, nor does staring in safe mode nor starting up from an install CD. I also tried re-installing the operating system, but I get the same result. I tried another monitor but I also get the lines on screen. I verified all the cables and that the graphic card is well in place in the pci slot.
If I change the resolution, I also get thoses lines but they change place on screen. Also, if I set the colors level to 256 colors, I get very little single lines but If I set the color level to the highest (36,7 Millions), the lines appears in group of 5+ and are all over the screen.
I tried taking a screenshot using the shortcut cmd-shift-3 and I can see the line in the pictures. Also, if I take a screenshot of a window that is behind the window in the front ( using cmd-shift-4-space ), I dont see the line on the screen shot.
I started to have this problem when my mac was woke up from sleep mode and the problem has persisted since then.
I guess my problem is the graphic card but I would like an external opinion before I got buy another one.

I'm having the same issue. Looks like this, but at a slight angle and different RGB colors (almost like JPG artifacting).
Started this evening after a cold boot. I just put my X800 XT Mac G5 edition in 2 weeks ago. No real heavy use either, as I've been gone for a week.
Looks to me like bad VRAM (according to TechTool Deluxe). I'm running the AHT now and will hopefully come to a final conclusion soon. I did test my 20" Apple monitor (DVI) with my laptop and there was no problem...so it is definitely the video card. Not sure if the aforementioned ATI ROM extender will fix it or not.

Black screen when waking macbook pro retina from sleep. Mavericks

Hi, ever since I updated to Mavericks i've been having this problem when my early 2012 rmbp wakes up from sleep and the screen is black except the time and battery info. When i start moving my mouse around the screen it's still black UNTIL I click and drag on the desktop wallpaper and whatever selection I clicked, my wallpaper will show. In order to actually use the laptop I either have to restart my computer or click and drag all around the computer screen so everything (wallpaper, app icons on dock, apple logo) will show up. Really strange. Not a big problem, but it is really annoying sometimes. Anyone have any suggestions?

well, the sad news is that although there are thousands of people with this issue, Apple is NOT going to recall the computers and fix them. This is particularly bad news for me as I am part of a team that is working with the poor in a devastated area of the Philippines and I cannot afford to get a replacment.
I don't know what I am going to do when my Macbook will not wake up anymore....
If anyone has news or suggestions on how to get help from Apple, please forward it to me

wakes from sleep very slowly, screen starting to flicker sometimes, very slow to load. i use microsoft email and just did an update. did this affect my system? My msn mail is awkward..... today, beeping sounds starting at random. ???

i did a restore off the Toshiba discs i had made, and again, it ran fine in the beginning, then all of sudden a month or two, and it started being slow again.
I expect something you installed or updated caused the trouble. Best strategy is to identify the culprit.
I would restore from the Toshiba discs again. Then carefully add things one-at-a-time, rebooting, and checking things out after each.
Be sure you create a restore point prior to adding hardware or installing software. Microsoft programs like Windows Update will automatically make one before installing anything.
