Opening Garageband Project In Logic Express

I have successfully opened / saved a garageband project in Logic Express and everything seems to have come over fine. In the arrange window, the 'Input' button is highlighted on many tracks (the button next to mute, solo, etc.). Should the 'Input' be selected or de-slected? It seems like its automatically sending it to a Bus. Any suggestions / basic ground rules?

Well, the Input monitoring button activated live input monitoring. So, if it is activated (and you have selected input monitoring in the preferences, of course), Logic will pick up any audio signal coming in via the selected inputs and feeds it into the channelstrip, even if it's not running. You can also play along without recording. Recording, however, activates monitoring either way.
Maybe you have an open mic, which might produce feedback or other disturbing noises. Turn off input monitoring (and disarm record, of course) to mute the live input monitoring.
Basically, only the channels you need to hear should have Input monitoring activated.

Just loaded Logic Express 9. Trying to open GarageBand project I get "Sorry, can't load this project because it is created by a newer Logic Express version. Please update Logic Express." I was under the impression that any GB project could be opened in LE9. Any suggestions?

You don't specify but have you updated LE to v.9.1.7?
Sometimes Logic can be a little picky as to how you open the song file, so if one method doesn't work, try another. For example:
1) Drag the GB file onto the LE icon.
2) Right-click on the GB file and choose "open with Logic Express."
3) Select the GB file from Logic's Browser tab in the Media window on the right.
I'm assuming that you already tried File>Open from the LE menu bar.
Once you do manage to open your GB file inside LE you will be required to save it as a Logic file.

Opening garageband projects in logic

opening garageband projects in logic seems to be a very simple procedure, however im having some difficulties.
I've tried to open all my garageband projects in logic pro 7, but none are working. I get a message saying "Damaged song, or not a Logic Express Song"
I dont know how to go around this message, because its not letting me open any.
Can someone help me with this?

im using logic pro 7 and my garageband is version 3
I have been looking through the "logic for garageband users" manual, but the process goes a lot smoother in the manual. I actually got the idea from there to open the garageband projects in logic. It just tells me how to do it, but it didn't address any troubleshooting issues with opening them.

Opening Garageband Projects in Logic-Question

When I open a garageband project in Logic 8, most of the audio tracks won't have sound, and when I create new audio tracks in those same projects, they also often don't have sound.
It seems random which tracks don't work and which do. And doubling tracks that are functioning right usually doesn't work.
All other kind of tracks (software inst., ext. midi, etc.) work.
Any idea what's wrong?
I looked through the discussions and couldn't find an answer- sorry if it's been asked.

Make sure the correct output is assigned to the audio tracks.

Opening GarageBand files in Logic express

I cannot get my GB files to open in logic express. It says i need to update logic. I have Logic Express 9 and GarageBand 11. Anybody know why it's doing this?

Can I open emagic logic projects in Logic Express 7.2?

I am recording a band in a few weeks, who have already laid down their (live) drum tracks in a proper studio that uses Emagic Logic. I don't know which version, but he runs it on a G4.
I use GarageBand at the moment, but am about to move up to Logic Express 7.2. Will I be able to import the Emagic Logic projects into Logic Express 7.2?

Opening garageband projects in LE and Apple Loops

I know I have to set the key of the song when I start a new Garageband project but the problem I'm having is that most of my songs don't stay in that particular key(I usually just set it to C). How can I get the loop browser to ignore the key and play the loops in their original key when I'm browsing? Is this possible by opening the GB project in Logic Express? Does the Logic Express loop browser ignore or have the ability to ignore whatever key the original GB project was in?

I don't think so,
I believe the only way you have is to transposit
once it's add to the arrange window.
the best you can do while browsing loops is search by key.

Why can't I open garageband files in Logic

Loaded Logic pro 9 last evening and whew that took a while.
I started trying to open Garageband files in logic and
it made the attempt but didn't get very far. The progress
window open but there is no progress. Just the beach ball
and finally force quit of Logic.
Logic works on it own, and Garageband works on it's own
just fine.
Another question, Do I need to install the Jam Packs I used with
Garageband into Logic. I also have a few third party loops,
should I install those as well or will Logic see all those loops
when I finally get logic to open my Garageband files?

I have Garageband 5.1 and yes Ilife 09 as well.
As an Update, I checked off all the items that were
unchecked in my second installation using the install
disc. Then I restarted the computer.
This allowed some success with opening some of the
garageband projects in logic. However 3 of the projects
still refuse to open in logic.
These 3 files seem to have one thing in common. When I try
to open them in logic they get as far as the progress
bar but then they all stop at a point where the words
" channel eq" or "noise gate" is displayed and then I
get the beach ball followed by force quit.
I suspect the problem may be associated with plugins.

Problem importing Garageband songs into Logic Express

Hi I have spent around 4 hours looking for an answer to this problem so hopefully it has'nt been answered before apolgies if it has.
I am trying to import a Garageband Song into Logic Express (7.1) it appears to import it to Logic but when finished it reads file corrupt not a Logic File.
I followed the tutorial opened the GB song and followed the instructions on how to import but I cant import it to Logic without the above message coming up.
Any ideas?
I'm using a MacBook Pro with 10.4.9 on it.Logic is version 7.1 (Is there a known bug when importing?)

Welcome to the forum!
the answer is within your question;
your machine needs the universal Logic express (7.2)
and your GB's probably GB 3.
That's the reason you can open the files.
If you bought version 7 "new"(from the reseler)
ask for version 7.2, as you can't buy crossgrade anymore.
(until logic sells a new one)

Why can't I open Garageband projects?

Ever since getting my new Macbook Pro, I've had problems opening Garageband projects. I don't know if this is a permissions issue, something funky with the account that I migrated from my old Macbook or what. I can't even create a new project without getting the error message "The file couldn't be opened."

Okay, I fumbled around and fixed it. I had previously gone into system preferences/ file sharing and changed all user accounts to everyone read and write. That didn't help. I just went in to the hard drive and right clicked my user folder, clicked get info and changed the setting to everyone read and write. Then I went into applications directly on the hard drive, clicked on GarageBand and did the same thing. Now my projects are opening. I'm not sure which one fixed it but it's working. I hope this helps anyone else having this problem.

Opening Logic RPC 5.1 projects in Logic Express 8

i am helping a client convert from Logic RPC 5.1 on a PC to Logic express on a mac pro.
any suggestions on making the transition smooth? i've been able to open some files up, and search for the audio files, etc. but i haven't been able to get any sound out of the project yet. it changes the audio driver to core audio etc....
anyways any suggestions are greatly appreciated

I've tried that but it still crashes on loading. It seems that once the bug is in there one can't get rid of it...

One is "Set Cycle Pre Processing to 1/96" or "Disable MIDI Clock" or "Leave".
The other ones are search for missing audio files... four to be exact.

Garageband iPad to Logic Express 8?

I cannot import files from the Garageband iPad app to Logic Express 8 (I get the message that the file was created in a newer version of Logic). Can anyone confirm that these files can be opened in Logic Express 9?

Can't open Garageband project, please help

I was using a Mac Mini, 10.7.5, and recorded some vocal tracks on Garageband 11. I clicked gospel choir vocal effect at first, and it was fine. When I wanted to try another effect by clicking another one, the application quit. When I tried to open the project again, the initializing window popped up, and a few seconds after, it said something like "Garageband quit unexpectedly, do you want to reopen to restore the windows". When I clicked "reopen", it directed me back to Garageband recent project page without opening the project I was working on. I tried to open other projects I worked on previously, and those could be opened; just not the one that I worked on recently.
I didn't back up anything with the Time Machine because I never used it before, didn't know how to use it.
I just saved the project to my USB drive, deleted the one on the Mac Mini, deleted Garageband, updated to iOS10.9 something, reinstalled the newest version of Garageband, tried to open the project from the USB drive, failed again.
When I open the "show package content", some mp3 files of my recorded vocals are there. I don't think all of what I recorded are there, but some.

Okay, my first question is; Can I open garageband 08 files in logic, and if I do will they be mixed the same? And my second one is a bit more complex;
On garageband there is an option to place software drums into little bricks and make them into beats. Can I record real drums and map the individual hits onto a grid with Logic?
