Opening IDVD 4 Project in IDVD 5

When I open a project created in iDVD 4 in IDVD 5, I get what looks like a screen of the Portfolio Template superimposed over the custom Template I created in IDVD 4. It's just a photoshop/jpg image. Also there is a fading in out of the entire combined templates. Slide show works just fine though. How can I get past this? Since I've opened it in "5" I can't seem to go back to "4" where everything was fine. HELP!!!

Use version 2 for FCP5.0, and version 3 for 5.1.
An oh-so-minor (but at the same time, huge) correction: FCP XML Version 3 is for FCP 5.1.2 to 5.1.4.
In a recent project we had to share material with another editor who had other editing software - something called Avid, I think - on his system so he hadn't moved past 10.4.6 and FCP 5.1.0. (and so we gave him XML version 2 files, V3's didn't work)

  • Cant open iDVD project or even a new project! So mad about to go to Windows

    Hello,
I can't open iDVD as a saved project and I can't even go to the window pane that allows me to start a new project because if I open it from the Apps folder, it just opens my last saved project - which doesn't open. Basically it gets stuck and doesn't load the content and beachballs forever.
I just got past an issue with a bad audio file and couldn't burn it to DVD - I deleted all the audio and reloaded the full songs, then burned a disc image to make sure it worked fine (needless to say, when I double-clicked the disc image, it didn't start up in DVD Player like the "great" instructions say). But now, I can't even open iDVD to do anything about it...this is extremely frustrating and Apple support on the phone does nothing, except ask for $199 for a tech to work with you (are you kidding me?!?!!? I paid $2000 for this freaking machine...I'm close to saying a Windows machine is more reliable...but I won't say that)
    Anyway, any suggestions? thank you!
    Chris

Hi, I got through most of the burning process - however, it "encountered errors" and didn't finish my burn!!! See below for what the info was:
"Errors were found during the burning process:
The recording device reported the illegal request: Buffer underrun. (0x21, 0x02.)
There was a problem during multiplexing/burning."
What does that mean and why can't I burn this project!?!!
    Thanks
    Chris

  • Can´t open iDvd 6 with any previous project

Hi, I have a problem, I have been using the iDvd 5 for a long time, now I start to use iLife 6 and I have maked some projects in iDvd 6, and all it´s perfect, but a few days ago I opened a file project to meke a new burn dvd but for some specifications of my client, I had to change of normal to panoramic, and the way I did it is; selecting a diferent theme (background) and then iDvd asked me if I want to change to a panoramic screen or not, I said yes, finally burn the dvd, everything it´s fine.
But today, I want to use the iDvd 6 again, and when I click in icon, the program start to upload themes, appear the main window in gray (without the project) and "there is no more to do", I only force to exit.
I I have been trying reloading the ilife6 but dosen´t make a change, do you have any idea? Thanks, and sorry if my englih it´s no good.

If you update to QuickTime 7.1.2, that will solve the MP3 issue. It did for me.
    but what is this?
I think you mean the "answered star" when members gain points that way. You'll see members "ranking" on the right-hand side of the main page of each different discussion group.
I don't do this for stars, but thanks for supporting "the system."

  • Can't Open An Existing Project in iDVD

I've prepared an iDvd project saved it and when ever I run iDvd and select "open an existing project" it just freezes and only gives me the option to "Force Quit". It allows me to create a new project but I can't open my existing one. Can anyone help. I hope I don't have to start it all over again.

Have you tried deleting iDVD's preference file?
Close iDVD. Go to your Home folder(YourUserName)/Library/Preferences/com.apple.idvd.plist
Drag this plist file to the trash. iDVD will create a new fresh one when you reopen it.
Open iDVD, and see if this problem is resolved.
If not, try signing on as a new account. Go to system preferences, account.
If that resolves the problem, then it is not the software. Post back for more assistance with this.
If neither of these helps, you may have to reinstall iDVD. Again, post back if you get to this point and want assistance with reinstalling. You will need to find your original iLife installation disks, or the Mac installation disks if iLife was preinstalled on your computer when you purchased it.

  • Create iDVD Project in iMovie opens iDVD but nothing else

I have created a new project in iMovie 5.0.2. I put in my chapter markers, then click the "Create iDVD Project" button. It opens iDVD 5.0.1, but nothing else happens. iDVD doesn't open a window, all I can see is the menus, of which all the items are grayed out. I have tried to import the movie directly into iDVD by selecting "import" in the iDVD menus, but it doesn't load properly, and the themes don't show up. Anybody have any ideas?
I have tried to delete the com.apple.iDVD.plist, and repaired as well as verified the disk, but that didn't make a difference.
    PLEASE HELP!!!

Try saving the iMovie project as a full quality DV (QuickTime) file. Then just drag that to a new iDVD project.
    Does that work?

    /applications/imovie hd.imovie project/shared movies/idvd/moviehd.mov

my movie is all set to go but I can't burn it

Have you tried sending the movie to iDVD by clicking on the iDVD button and then Create iDVD Project button?

  • Can't Open iDVD - only spinning beachball!

I can't get iDVD to open. I've let it sit for 10-15 minutes several times before force quitting. The current project is quite small, so it shouldn't be causing a problem.
I wish it wouldn't open the last project automatically.
    any ideas?

Your last project probably is glitched in some way. I have had this happen before. What you will want to do first is to delete the preferences file. Quit iDVD. Navigate to your home directory, then to Library/Preferences. Locate the file called com.apple.iDVD.plist. Delete it. Now restart iDVD. It should come up with no problem.

  • Opening iDVD 08 for first time (I know  . .  an old topic)

I still can't get iDVD 08 to open. Went back to iDVD 06 for the past four weeks but want some of the new menus in 08. So I dragged 06 into the trash as I can't even open this anymore; installed 08, and followed the posted 'unexpectedly quit' instructions re early themes etc. I couldn't find the installed themes in my home directory (is this the the same folder as my user name?). But I still can't reopen iDVD 08 to reinstall the themes. I also downloaded the iLife 08 support software but still nothing happens
Can anyone walk me thru what to do?
    thanks gang
    Iamfrustrated

Let's start with some basic stuff.
This frequently helps solve some problems. Quit iDVD. Search for the file named com.apple.iDVD.plist and trash it. (A new one will be created next launch of iDVD.) Or look in: User/Library/Preferences. This may solve project loading errors too. Restart and use Disk Utility to Repair Permissions.
You'll need to reset some Preferences.
Create a new User and see if that User can open iDVD.

Try Mixing Down the audio before export.

  • NO THEMES CAN BE SEEN WHEN I OPEN IDVD 08

hi there;I was working the original ilife 05 that was coming with my power pcg5 2 cores 2.0 ghz; no problem; when I upgraded to leopard I did the same for life up to ilife 08; the point is now imovie08 cannot be opened (I have an error telling me the version is not supported and when I open idvd I can hear the default music for themes buy I cannot see the themes, only a black screen). Any idea:
    thank you in advance
    Jose

    Jose:
Welcome to the Apple Discussions. First try the basic fix: close iDVD, delete the iDVD preference file, com.apple. iDVD.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder, launch iDVD and see if that helps.
If that doesn't work look in the HD/Library/Application Support/iDVD folder and see if the Themes folder is there. If you find there move it to the desktop, reboot, put it back in the HD/Library/Application Support/iDVD folder, reboot and try again.
If you don't find it in the first location, look in the User/Library/iDVD folder for it. If it's there move it to the HD/Library/Application Support/iDVD folder, reboot and try again.
If neither of those work you'll have to reinstall iDVD. Delete the current application and all files with iDVD in the file name that reside in the HD/Library/Receipts folder. Install iDVD from the iLife 08 disk, run the latest update, repair disk permissions, reboot and try once again.

  • When I open iDvd in lion I gat the sping ball

When I open iDvd in lion I gat the sping ball, And Iits on a 2.26 Quad-core with 24 GB RAM. I reinstalled, same thing runs in snow-leopard .

Try this basic troubleshooting fix :
1 - delete the IDVD preference file, com.apple.iDVD.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete IDVD'S cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iDVD folder.
3 - launch IDVD and try again.

  • Cannot Open iDVD - required hardware not found

Hi - I have a 800Mhz iBook G3 with 256Mb ram. I purchased iLife 05, specifically to use iDVD. What I failed to do was to read the requirement that the machine needed to have a built in SuperDrive in order to burn DVDs using iDVD. However, reading through the posts in this forum, it seems that iDVD should still open and be functional, even without an internal superdrive, I just should not be able to burn through the application. However, when I try to open iDVD, I get the message that iDVD could not be opened because the required hardware could not be found.
Does anyone have any idea how I can get around this issue?

you have the wrong processor/CPU to run iDVD...
iDVD, and the process of encoding videoDVD requires at last a G4...
I've heard of other tools, doing DVDencoding on G3 machines, but that lasts for day, if not weeks ...
plus, running OsX on such a ... "small" Mac (256MB RAM)... that is really for the ... bravehearted.. ;-))
    no personal offense...

  • When I open Idvd, I hear the program music but I don't see the window ?

When I open IDVD, I can hear the program music but I can't find the window ?
    It's like it's open somewhere else ?

You did not indicate what OS version you are running on your mini, iOS 6 only runs on iPhones and iPads, but if you are using Mountain Lion click on Mission Control on the Dock to see what other Windows are available and what is running in each of them.
The iDVD icon should also appear on the Dock with a small triangle under it to indicate it is running. Click on that icon and even if there is no iDVD window open the iDVD menu should appear in the menu bar at the top of your screen you can then click on Option+Command+H to hide any application windows that may be covering iDVD. Also on the iDVD menu you can click on Window > Bring all to Front.

  • When i try to open idvd, all i get is a "?" symbol

when i try to open idvd, all i get is a "?" symbol over the idvd icon

The first thing to try is deleting the iDVD preference file.
To delete iDVD's preference file: First quit iDVD; then look in Home/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.idvd.plist
Drag the plist file to the trash, then reopen iDVD. iDVD will create a new plist file.

  • Cannot open iDVD

Hmm. iDVD will not open when I click on the icon. I do get the menu bar but nothing happens except the rolling beachball when I click on it. Last nite I burned two DVDs just fine.
I tried reloading iLife 08 but everything is greyed out and only Garageband loads. Can anybody suggest a solution?

Give this basic remedy a try. Quit iDVD and delete your iDVD preferences. To do this, go to your username> library> preferences> com.apple.idvd.plist. Delete this file. Then reopen iDVD; it will create a new preference file with all of the default settings.
If this doesn't help, try opening iDVD from another account. If it works without any problem, then the problem is somewhere in your account.
    Post back with your results.
