Opening in raw in photoshop CS4

I just got CS4, upgrading from elements. I am wanting to open photos from Aperture into PS in the camera raw plug in option that comes with CS4.
Anyone know how to achieve that?
I know how to find a picture in a file and open it manually, but hoping for a shorter version.
Another question would relate to the aperture library. Can photoshop 'see' into that library or does it only work through Aperture?

Appreciate the feedback.
I wasn't sure what referenced were and the difference, so I looked them up. Best as I understand it then, if I go with referencing my files from now on, I'm essentially creating my own hierarchy of files and managing them myself. Then I get Aperture to "see" them so I can ... do what? Make small adjustments?
Help me better to understand why a person would want to reference and then use Aperture. I was thinking the whole purpose of Aperture was to help organize and structure files in a relatively mindless fashion, good for people like me who do not desire to make individual folders and manage all the photos myself. Not that there's anything wrong with that, just time consuming and more than I care to do.
I'm guessing the advantage of referenced + Aperture is that I can then browse through them easily with Aperture as the viewer of the files, and use Apertures features for raw adjustments?
Here's some background: started with a 35 mm camera and iPhoto a few years back. Lots and lots of pictures. Then got a digital camera a couple of years ago, elements, and found the need to manage my pictures with Aperture. Now tens of thousands of pics later...can't recall why I felt I needed Aperture, except the organization side of it and the quick viewing. Now I'm going another step further and realizing all about raw files in my camera, the editing abilities, and so forth.
Couple of weeks ago I attended a Scott Kelby seminar on photoshop CS4, I'm hooked. What I can do through that program is addicting. So I got PS CS4 and want to use the camera raw option in PS CS4.I think I'm beginning to see a pattern where I'm slowly growing in all that the world of photography entails and am running into natural growing pains perhaps?
#1 - I'm wondering if Aperture does about the same thing as camera raw in PS CS4? I was able to track along with most of what he explained in camera raw as I saw a parallel option I have used already in Aperture. Any thoughts on advantages/disadvantages of staying with Aperture, using it's raw editing abilities, then using PS CS4 more for layers and filters? Pontification anyone?
#2 - Anyone care to give their opinion regarding the referenced versus importing straight into Aperture? Advantages/disadvantage of each? What reasons would I want to use one over the other?
Thanks for your time.
Robert

I can not open my photo, opened in lightroom, in photoshop CS4. a plug-in camera raw  xx is missing. Advice to update does not work. There is no plug-in in the map photoshop plug-ins.

This is expected. CS4 will never be able to open files from a current version of LR and a modern camera.

  • Can't open camera RAW image in CS4/Bridge with Win 8.1.  Worked fine with XP

I upgraded from Win XP to 8.1 and got a new computer in the process.  I'm using CS4, and I think that works okay, except it does not recognize a RAW file.  Bridge won't open thumbnails for RAW files, and if I try to open one it doesn't open it in Bridge; it goes straight to CS4 and that says it's 'not the right kind of document'. It doesn't matter if the file is on the hard drive or on a Canon card in a reader. Bridge will display thumbnails for JPG files and open them in CS4.  It will not show the thumbnails for TIF files, but it will open them in CS4. How do I fix this?

I did all that, in the order you recommended.  I downloaded, expanded and installed all three updates. I then checked the start page for CS4 and it is at 11.0.2. I also rebooted, but Bridge still won't display thumbnails of RAW files, will not open a RAW file in Bridge but sends it to CS4 which still says it is not the right kind of document.  If I try to open a RAW file in CS4 directly, I do get thumbnails, but it won't open the file.  On a more positive note, I called a friend who also has CS4 and who also recently bought a new computer.  However, his is a laptop with Win 8 Professional. He had not tried to use Photoshop since he got the new laptop, and he discovered that he had the very same problem. However, downloading the updates fixed him right up. My new machine is a desktop with Win 8.1.  What do I do now?

  • Can't open canon raw files in cs4

I recently had to rebuild my pc after a problem that stopped a few of my programs working (I'd installed xampp so I could use wordpress on the pc but it stopped cs4, firefox, video studio and a bunch of other stuff working - removal and reinstalling did no use, I had to build a new disc).
I reinstalled cs4 and got all the updates but now I find I can't open can raw files with cs4 or bridge. I tried replacing the Camera Raw.8bi file with the latest file from adobe as per their web instructions but it still doesn't work. So I tried the adobe dng convertor (version 8.3) and ran the files through that, still no luck, I can't open the files.
I could open them wwith canons own software and save as a tiff, but then I'm losing a lot of information.
I'm still running vista home premium - no I can't upgrade to windows 8.1 and use the latest photoshop and lightroom software because 8.1 doesn't work with my nikon scanner or my epson large format printer. It doesn't like a few other items I have either.
I remember I had to download a few files a couple of years ago when I first bought the pc (a whole 3 years ago) as I was having trouble with photoshop and raw files then but I can't remember the name of the file or where I got it from.
Anyone able to help? much appreciated if you can.

    Hi John,
Adobe told me to replace the relevant file, which I did. The trouble is that went I do this then 'camera raw' disappears from the 'help / plugins' list and there doesn't seem to be any way of getting back other than uninstalling and reinstalling cs4, and once I do this it overwrites the files again...
I can't remember having this trouble when I first installed it a couple of years ago but I do seem to remember having to replace a file somewhere but that may have been on an earlier version.
    I have an old EOS 5d mk1 & a 7d mk1, so it's not as though the camera is unknown to cs4.
    Regards,
    Doug

  • From what I understand RAW photos are supposed to open in raw in photoshop CC.  I don't understand why my RAW photos don't open in RAW in photoshop CC or Lightroom 5

From what I understand RAW photos are supposed to open in raw in photoshop CC. I don't understand why my RAW photos don't open in RAW in photoshop CC or Lightroom 5

Has the behavior changed compared to how it used to open ? If so, do you refer to the Camera RAW window similar to this: http://screenshots.en.sftcdn.net/en/scrn/78000/78026/adobe-camera-raw-22.jpg
What is the file extension of your photos ?
In Lightroom, there is no special way of opening a RAW file vs. JPEG. They all open the same. What is the Lightroom behavior ? Can you post a screenshot ?

  • Open MrSid files in Photoshop CS4

    Hi,
    I had a question about Photoshop CS4.
Can MrSid files be opened and viewed with Photoshop CS4?
I tried opening a MrSid file but it stated that it was not the right kind of document.
Thank you in advance for your help.
    Brian.

Our Geographic Imager product is s fully geospatial plugin suite for Photoshop that directly opens MrSID files as well as many other spatial image formats including GeoTIFF, ECW, DEM and more.
It includes a fully geo-referenced framework for Photoshop that maintains all the spatial meta-data throughout the Photoshop workflow and also includes reprojection, mosaicking, tiling, spatial cropping and referencing and can ultimately save back to GeoTIFF once the Photoshop work is done.

  • My new canon 5D mark111 camera cannot open images in raw in photoshop cs4 extened

I recently purchased a canon 5D mark111 camera and I cannot open the images in camera raw/ photoshop cs4 extended. How do I download a plug in to update this photshop?

    Hi Shelley,
Camera raw plugins after 5.7 are not compatible with photoshop cs4, so you could use the 7.3 DNG Converter to convert
the canon 5d markIII camera raw files to dng copies which should then open in photoshop cs4.

  • Can not open Camera Raw in Bridge CS4, or see thumbnails

    MacBook Pro
    OS 10.5.5
    Photo Shop CS4 version 11
    Camera Raw 5.2.0.65
I had another version of Camera Raw from PS3. When I bought the Canon EOS 5D Mark II, I deleted the old camera raw plug in, so as to not conflict with the new camera raw plug in.
When I open PS4, click Photoshop, click about plug in, ONLY one version of Camera Raw comes up.
In OS 10, when I click GO at the top, then applications, then Adobe Photoshop CS4, then Plug Ins, then File Formats, I get two Camera Raw icons: a blue lego like icon that says "Camera Raw.plugin" and another icon that looks like the Macintosh HD icon, but is labeled "CameraProfiles.dmg"
The problem is that I can't open files in Camera Raw when in Bridge CS4, nor can I see the little photo thumbnails either.
    Can someone please help?
    Desperate in NYC.

The Photoshop folder is NOT the correct location for the Camera Raw plug-in, since several versions of Photoshop.
The correct location, is, as described in the readme and in the FAQ of this very forum [hint]:
Mac: [root of your hard disk, NOT your user folder's library]/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Plug-ins/CS4/File Formats/

  • I can't open .CR2 files in Photoshop CS4

I'm unable to get the .CR2 files from my new Canon Rebel T3i to open in Photoshop CS4.  I just got this camera and I never had this problem with my old camera (Rebel Xsi).  The raw files from the Xsi will still open, but not the ones from the new camera.  Can anyone help me understand why this is happening?

Your only option is to upgrade or use the DNG convertor.
Just to be perfectly accurate, that would be two options.
To use the free Adobe DNG converter, you would download and install the very latest version then whenever you want to edit raw images you'll go through a process something like this:
    1.  Upload the .cr2 files from your camera into a folder on your hard drive.
    2.  Run the DNG Converter application and select the folder (it works on folders, not files).
    3.  Convert all the .cr2 files to .dng files.
    4.  Open the .dng files into Photoshop CS4 through the Camera Raw dialog.

  • Camera Raw in PhotoShop CS4?

    Hi,
As I can no longer use Adobe Bridge CS4 due to its attempts to destroy my PC.
How is it possible to access Camera Raw without opening Bridge?
I read in a book on Camera Raw (Real World Camera Raw with Adobe Photoshop CS4 by Bruce Fraser and Jeff Schewe ) that it was possible but the book did not explain how to do it.
I know that attempting to open a RAW image opens The Camera Raw plug-in, but in Bridge you could also open a JPG in Camera Raw.  My camera takes RAW and JPG.  So when I have JPG images taken by my camera I wanted to open and edit those in Camera Raw, but not if it means having to risk using Adobe Bridge - so I need to know how to do it in PhotoShop CS4.
    Can anyone help?

This problem has been driving me nuts, however I came across what I think is the answer.
I have CS4 and Windows Vista and Adobe Raw 5.5. If I have CS4 open and then open Bridge and right click on an thumbnail in Bridge and select 'open in ACR', or 'control+R', then the dreaded 'Camera Raw is not enabled' message appears.
However, if I do not open CS4 but go directly into Bridge, then click on a thumbnail, ACR opens automatically. If I press shift and click on a thumbnail then CS4 opens. Itseems to me that it should be the other way round, 'shift+click' should open ACR and 'click' should open CS4. However this is what happens so I am learning to live with it.
If Adobe staff read this please send an update which will reverse this, therefore correcting it, or perhaps change your instructions round so that they match the reality. In any case let me know.

  • How can I open 100D RAW files in CS4, I have tried everything.

Hi guys, can someone please help me.  I am trying to open 100D RAW files in PS CS4.  I have tried so many things including downloading the plug in and even DNG converting but would rather be able to open RAW files direct and not have to convert everything to DNG anyway as it is time wasting.  Can someone please help!  Thanks, Jen.

    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
The 100D is supported from ACR 7.4, which was released shortly after the camera came on market. ACR 7.x requires Photoshop CS6 to run, and won't work in the by now very old Photoshop CS4.
So your only option is to convert to DNG and open those in ACR 5.x / PS CS4. (or upgrade, of course, but I take it you don't want that).
    EDIT: assuming Canon 100D.
