Opening InDesign 2.02 Files in IDCS3

Has anyone encountered any issues opening historic InDesign 2.02 files in IDCS3
Is there a list of conversion issues posted anywhere on the site.
Many Thanks
Steve

Hi Bob
When changing the font size in the top toolbar menu, if you type the font size in and hit return the value is ignored. If you leave the font size value highlighted/selected for more than a couple of seconds it deselects the value and when you type it replaces the text you have selected in the InDesign document. This also happens in the horizontal scale box. If you use the pull down menu it works fine.Just seems very buggy. I have recreated the scenario by taking the Indesign 2.02 documents to another location and the same problem is encountered. I would be happy to e-mail ftp them to see the problem.

  • Can I open Indesign 2.0 files with cs6 or the newest version of cc?

I want to buy either cs6 or the newest version of cc.  I just need to know if I can open InDesign 2.0 files with either of these newer versions?

In theory, yes, but it's hard to predict what's going to happen with that big a gap in versions. I suggest you download a trial and give it a test, and if the file opens, the very first thing you should do is save as .idml. then open that and save as a new .indd without overwriting the original.

  • Open InDesign 2.0 file in the CS5

I have a InDesign 2.0 file. When I open with CS5 version, the application warning the following: "Cannot open 'File.indd'. Please upgrade your plug-ins to their latest version, or upgrade to the latest version of Adobe InDesign."
Also the dialog box shows the item "EPS PAGE ITEM.RLPN".
How fix this? How I can to open a InDesign 2.0 file again?

Do you still have version 2.0 (which is not the same as CS2, so maybe we should calrify just what the original file is)? Will it open in the original?
If it is, in fact a version 2.0 file and will not open in version 2.0 you have a real problem and the only hope I know of would be to send it to Markzware: Fix Your Bad InDesign Files!
If you want to zip the file and send it to me, I'll have a go at opening it in a few hours, but I can't promise anything.

  • Can't open InDesign and PPT files by double-clicking on them IN A FOLDER

PPT is MS Office 2004, all other MS programs ok. InDesign is CS4. Files are not corrupt, because they open on two more computers. The computer is brand new. I first installed Office, then CS4. The applications open, but the files don't open when I double-click on them IN A FOLDER. If I go to Open and select the file in the folder, then it opens. If I double-click on it IN A FOLDER, it doesn't open. I tried to do the Info panel thing, where you pick the program for the file, and that didn't work. Also, if I drag the file to the desktop, and double-click on it, it will open. A kind volunteer support person said there was an article about this in MACWorld in Dec. 2009, but I tried the suggestions and it still doesn't work. Basically, I need to use InDesign everyday for world, so this is a major problem.

I have a client with a similar issue regarding InDesign CS4. When double-clicking InDesign files on the server, the InDesign application will launch but the document will not open. Opening the document using the Open command in the File menu in InDesign works fine. This issue does not occur in any other CS4 application. To further complicate the matter, another user at the same location running the same version of the Mac OS (10.6.2) and CS4 does not have this issue. I have tried a fresh install of Mac OS X 10.6.2 and CS4 but the issue persists. I have tried creating a new user account and using the authentication credentials of the user that doesn't have this issue to connect to the server on the problem computer but still the issue persists. Prior to doing the fresh install, I swapped the hard drives between the two computers, but the problem stayed with the hard drive, not the computer, which is what prompted me to perform the fresh install.
Have you come across any new information?

  • Opening InDesign CS7 (CC) files in CS6 after opting out of CreativeCloud

Hi, I have opted out of Creative Cloud and decided to use just CS6 instead. Now a couple of files where created in newer versions (
as I had automatic upgrade in CC) which to my horror I cannot open now. Is there a way to open them without having to reactivate CC? Thanks for your help.

@blauraum – if you doing the export (in CC it's saving) to IDML, don't forget to export to PDF as well. Afterwards you could place the PDFs in the opened IDML (now indd file) to compare the conversion to the "original". Expect some changes…
For batch converting to IDML and PDF there is a script by Peter Kahrel:
    Peter Kahrel
    Batch-process (convert/export) documents (CS3 and later)
    http://www.kahrel.plus.com/indesign/batch_convert.html
If delivering "open" files to someone else, there should always be a "triad" of files:
    *.indd
    *.idml
    *.pdf
*.indd for the people who work with the same version of InDesign.
*.idml for the people with older (CS4 and above) or newer versions.
*.pdf for all participants to show how the pages should be looking (no missing fonts, no missing images, no missing or different rendered features)

  • Opening InDesign and Photoshop files

Why can't I see any .indd or .psd files in my Gallery (Android)? I know they're there - can see them in my file manager.

    Hi NeithLeigh
The native Gallery app is meant for just standard image formats and does not support product specific formats, not even Adobe products. If you have InDesign or Photoshop files you wanted to import into Adobe Debut; the best way to do so is to upload your .psd and .indd files to the Adobe Creative Cloud Files website https://creative.adobe.com/ from your desktop and then import them into Adobe Debut on your tablet through the Creative Cloud option.

  • Freezing while opening Indesign CS5.5 files

I'm having difficulty opening CS5.5 files. I designed them in CS3. Then I got CS5.5 and opened them in that and saved them.
Every time I try to reopen them they freeze up. More specifically, if I double click a CS5.5 Indesign file, it freezes up EVERY time.
If a drag it to the Indesign CS5.5 icon in my dock, it freezes up consistently every other time--asking me if I want to postpone the recovery.
My fonts libraries and caches are clean. I've run font nuke. I've installed Suitease Fusion 3.
I was thinking that this might have to do with Helvetica Neue conflicts. My document utilizes this font.
I've tured off open fonts automatically in fontbook and Suitcase Fusion 3.
    Any ideas?

As long as there's a problem in the recovery folder you will continue to have a problem on startup. Move the contents of the Recovery folder to a new location, like the desktop, and launch ID, then try to open the files using File > Open...
Other users report problems from time to time with CS3 and CS4 files opened in CS5 (and presumably 5.5), some of which do not show up until major editing has been completed. I recommend exporting the documents from CS3 to .inx and open the .inx in CS5.5.

  • Can't open InDesign 5.5 file in CS5.5

We've received a set of InDesign files from a designer which has been created in CS5.5.  I just tried to open the indd file on our production laptop, using InDesign CS5.5 and I'm getting an error message 'CannotConvertNewerDocument'.
I can't understand why this might be happening - I've tried searching forums but can't seem to find anyone else with the same issue.  Has anyone else come across this?
The laptop is running Windows 7.
    Thanks

    Absolutely saved as CS6:
Here's your IDML file which should open fine. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/2548785/ABSINT9vaknr.idml

  • Opening InDesign 2.0 files in CS2/CS3

    Dear people who know,
I tried to research this a bit but did not readily find an answer or pointers that worked, so forgive me if I've overlooked something.
I used to have acess to InDesign 2.0 on which I created several layout. The media school where I teach has both CS2 and CS3 available. I would like to have access to my files to either update them or to resave them at ubiqutous PDF files. Problem is, I cannot open them. Does anyone have any experience migrating files upward using InDesign. I am vexed as to why Adobe would break the compatibilty path in any case, but that is a whole nother show...
    Thanks for any insights!
    Desperately seeking closure
PS: I can provide a file if necessary.

I haven't' seen a reference to this other thread here; perhaps Tommy would be interested in seeing your file. Drop him a note.

Re: InDesign - need a "Fix my Corrupted File" Upload Service
    Folks:
If you have sent me a document in the last few weeks, I apologize for my slow responses. I was out of the office in mid-March and have just recently gotten the chance to look at the ones I've received.
Over the last few week, a couple folks have posted messages, asking me to look at files. Just send them my way--there is no need to ask.
If your file is small enough for email, you can send them directly to me ([email protected]).
For larger files, you can post them somewhere for me to download, or you can upload them to our customer support FTP server. Here are instructions uploading to our FTP server:
    http://www.adobe.com/go/kb402038
When using the FTP site, please create a folder with distinguishing name, transfer your files to that folder, and then send me an email to let me know the files are there for me to take a look at.
Important note: The most common type of corruption that we now see is caused by hardware problems, indicated by the checksum failure that I described in my last post. Running disk utilities regularly is recommended to help avoid these errors.

  • Opening Indesign 2.0 files in CS4?

Hello, I have InDesign CS4 and I need to update some older assembly manuals that were made in 2.0. Is there any way to open them in CS4? When I try, InDesign just crashes without an error message or anything. I've tried on both Mac and PC. I've searched for Plugins, exporters, et cetera. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Erick

They should open. Not really sure what the problem is without more detail.

  • Will Indesign CC (9.0) open Indesign CC (2014) files

If so, great, if not, where can I download a back copy. My office hasn't upgraded and adding 2014 to the mix right now is not optimal.

You will likely get better program help in a program forum InDesign
The Cloud forum is not about using individual programs
The Cloud forum is about the Cloud as a delivery & install process
If you will start at the Forums Index https://forums.adobe.com/welcome
You will be able to select a forum for the specific Adobe product(s) you use
Click the "down arrow" symbol on the right (where it says All communities) to open the drop down list and scroll

  • InDesign 2.0 files open with InDesign CS4.

    Hi,
I works with InDesign 2.0 and want upgrade to InDesign CS4. Can I open InDesign 2.0 files with InDesign CS4?
Or need I a conversion tool for the files. which tool is it.
    Regards
    Erdem

2.0 files will open up fine in CS4, you won't need any special conversion tools.  However once you've opened the file in CS4 and changed it you will have to save it as a CS4 file.  There is no way you can open that file again in 2.0 unless you have all the versions in between, and even then it would be very messy and time consuming.

  • Open InDesign CS4 files in CS4 in Windows 7

    Hi!
I want to open InDesign CS4 files in in InDesign CS4 but it opens with InDesign CS3. What can I do?
I also tried 'open with' by right clicking and select a default program but that didn't work for me. I also downloaded registry files from 'Windows 7 forum' to restore registry settings of 'open with', even that didn't work.
How can I manually change registry settings to open ID CS4 files in IDCS4?
    Please help me!
I'm weird of manually dragging and droping inDesing files to inDesign program window.
Should I uninstall IDCS3 and reinstall it?
    Thanks.

Did you install CS3 after CS4?
In any event, you might want to try this:

  • Opening InDesign files in CS5 created in CS4 I get this message.

I have a few files that I'm unable to open, CS4 or CS5, I created them in CS4 when trying to open I get this message "Can not open such and such file Adobe InDesign may not support the file format, a plug-in that supports the file may be missing, or the file maybe open in another application.
I'm unable to open in either version. hoping some one has a way of getting them open, I have back ups but they give me the same message.
    Thank you in advance
    Mark

The files are stored on the P drive, the Adobe drive that was created while using VC in CS4, plus I weekly back that drive up, those files are the same way. Although I'm not able to use the VC like before I have continued to store files there.
But yes I have copied to the desktop, tried the the open comand in the file menue and still get the same message.
Since these files have a rose I am migrating the files to my mine hard drive just in case that maybe the reason. Do you have any other suggestions.
    Thanks for the reply.

  • When I open InDesign files from our design team, the fonts don't show up even though I have them installed on my computer. How do I get it to recognize fonts I have installed?

I use my Adobe programs from the Creative Cloud. When our design agency sends me files, I open them and fonts I have on my computer aren't showing up when I open the file. Everywhere online it says I need to add the fonts to InDesign's font file, but since I'm working out of the Creative Cloud, I don't have that option. How do I get InDesign to recognize these fonts when I'm opening files from our agency?

ID sees fonts installed on your computer and contained in a Document Fonts folder in the same folder as the document, if one exists.
I don't really understand what you are saying about fonts you have installed not showing up. And cloud makes no difference -- all the applications and support files are installed on your hard drive.
