Opening iPhoto automatically

Okay, I figured out how to keep iTunes from automatically opening every time I connect my iphone to my computer.
However, I can't seem to get iPhoto from opening automatically. Can It Be Done? (she said in a regal manner)

I don't have iPhoto set to launch automatically when I connect a digital camera, but I always import photos that were captured by my iPhone when connected, followed by deleting the photos from my iPhone's camera roll when prompted by iPhoto to do so after the import process is complete. If I want any of the imported photos available on my iPhone for viewing, I add the photos to an existing iPhoto album selected to be transferred to my iPhone followed by a sync, or create a new iPhoto album, selecting the new album under the Photos tab for my iPhone sync preferences followed by a sync.

  • Can't open iPhoto.  It tries to open in slideshow format and just spins and spins after that.

I'm not sure what happened.  iPhoto has always worked fine before.  It was open when my kids were fooling around in Photobooth, and ever since then, whenever I try to open it, it just spins in the slideshow screen.  Even if I plug in my camera, and it used to open iPhoto automatically and download, it doesn't anymore.  HELP!

Try trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder.
(On 10.7: Hold the option (or alt) key while clicking on the Go menu in Finder to access the User Library)
(Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    What's the plist file?
For new users: Every application on your Mac has an accompanying plist file. It records certain User choices. For instance, in your favourite Word Processor it remembers your choice of Default Font, on your Web Browser is remembers things like your choice of Home Page. It even recalls what windows you had open last if your app allows you to pick up from where you left off last. The iPhoto plist file remembers things like the location of the Library, your choice of background colour, whether you are running a Referenced or Managed Library, what preferences you have for autosplitting events and so on. Trashing the plist file forces the app to generate a new one on the next launch, and this restores things to the Factory Defaults. Hence, if you've changed any of these things you'll need to reset them. If you haven't, then no bother. Trashing the plist file is Mac troubleshooting 101.

  • Ipad does not open iTunes automatically

I have a new iPad 3. Connecting to MBP running Lion. All latest software.
On connecting the iPad it would open iPhoto automatically rather than iTunes. I sorted that out following advice on changing preferences (in iTunes & Iphoto) found here & now it does not open iPhoto automatically. However despite having 'Open iTunes when this iPad is connected' checked in Itunes/devices/preferences iTunes still doesn't open automatically when I connect the iPad to the laptop with a cable.
If I then manually open iTunes, the iPad is recognised & syching begins automatically.
How do I get iTunes to open automatically when I connect my iPad?
    Thanks
    Ian

This is a common problem. Using a different USB port may resolve the issue.

Thank You. This helps me alot to get into the masters and to see events and photos in a utilitarian way, but it is not as easy as viewing the normal iphoto format to find photos.  Can I do something else or did I not do something right to not see normal iphoto in Time Machine ?

  • Iphoto automatically opens whenever I attempt to print

I am using a Mac 10.6.1 (just updated to Snow Leopard), and using a Kodak AiO 5100 Model printer.
Recently, whenever I attempt to print, my iphoto automatically launches. (When I first installed Snow Leopard, I had no problems with this.)
Would anyone know why this may be happening now, and how I might stop iphoto from automatically launching?
    Thank you,

Typically iPhoto opens in response to finding a FAT 32 formatted storage device - do you by any chance had a photo card in your printer?

Whenever I open iphoto , my Macbook Pro restarted automatically and this is happening since I installed the OS X ML, need help to fix this problem?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Select the most recent panic log under System Diagnostic Reports. Post the entire contents — the text, please, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header and body of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) • IPhoto Automatically Opens

Every time I log on, IPhoto automatically opens, taking a lot of time. I have checked Preferences under IPhoto and General and can't find out why this is happening. Is there another place to look?

Launch "Image Capture" application. Image Capture can be found in your computer's Applications folder.
Go to the 'Devices' pulldown menu and select the device that is there (iPhone or any other device can be connected and listed there). Now, go to the Image Capture pulldown menu and select Preferences. In the General tab, change "When a XXX is connected, open" to "No application" (instead of iPhoto). Click OK, then quit Image Capture.
I had the same behavior with my iPhone and solve it that way.

  • In iPhoto8 inserting a Card reader does not automatically open iPhoto

In preferences it shows Connecting Camera: Opens iPhoto. Is there something else I should be doing. In previous versions it opened as soon as I inserted the card reader.

Sorry, I edited my post after thinking about it. I never connect my camera - I prefer to use a card reader and previously when I inserted the card reader into the slot on my laptop it would immediately start downloading the photos into iphoto - showing dups etc. Now, in iPhoto 8 I have to drag the disc (that appears when I insert the reader) from the desktop to iPhoto and then it starts the import.

  • Iphoto automatically opens when I connect my ITouch to my MAC

When I connect my Ipod Touch to my MAC, it opens IPhoto as well.

It does that when there are photos in the Saved Photos on your iPod. Import them into iTunes and delete them from your Saved Photos. If you want them on your iPod, you can sync them back to your iPod's photo album.
You can also go to iPhoto > Preferences > General and change the "Connecting Camera Opens:" preference to read "Nothing", but then you would have to open iPhoto manually when you want to import photos from your iPod or any cameras.

Hi jt - Alex was actually referring to video clips in iPhoto not appearing in the item "iPhoto Videos" in the Events Library in iMovie - thanks for your post though (the 2 words are very similar).

Hi. I need some help on the following problem. I opened iPhoto and, suddenly, it tells me " WHAT IPHOTO LIBRARY DO I WANT TO USE?" but i had a iPhoto library. When i search on my Pictures, i have the file IPHOTO LIBRARY but is was not the icon on it i previously remembered and it appears on a dim letters and it can not be opened ... How can i recover it??

    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • When i open iPhoto it says my photo library is unreadable and will not open. How can i fix this without losing my photos?

"Your photo library is either in use by another application or has become unreadable... Shut down and restart your computer, and then open iPhoto again. If the problem persists, try rebuilding your photo library. To do this, quit iPhoto, and then reopen it while keeping the Option and Command keys pressed. You can also try restoring your photo library from a backup."
How do i solve this problem? Dpes rebuilding your photo library delete all your photos? I have thousands of photos with no back up HELP!!

Well if you have no back up you need to make a back up now. It might be too late, but you're not going to know until you fix this.
    Most Simple Back Up:
Drag the iPhoto Library from your Pictures Folder to another Disk. This will make a copy on that disk.
Slightly more complex: Use an app that will do incremental back ups. This is a very good way to work. The first time you run the back up the app will make a complete copy of the Library. Thereafter it will update the back up with the changes you have made. That makes subsequent back ups much faster. Many of these apps also have scheduling capabilities: So set it up and it will do the back up automatically.
Example of such apps: Chronosync - but there are many others. Search on MacUpdate or the App Store
    Then try:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • I don't know what has happened but I can't open iPhoto. When I try to open it I receive a caution "The iPhoto Library is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have permission to make changes to it." How do I solve this??!!

I don't know what has happened but I now can't open iphoto. I get a caution when I try which says the iphoto library is locked! It was working perfectly fine this afternoon until I tried to upload some photos from my camera and my computer started to run very slow and wasn't recognising my camera. I tried to quit iphoto and then when I came back in to it, this was the message I received. As far as I am aware I didn't alter any settings or put on any locks. Please help!!

What version of iPhoto? Assuming 09 or later...
