Opening JPEG images

For some reason, none of my JPEG images can be opened by
Dreamweaver 8. Simply comes up as "cannot open file". As far as I
know these are all just standard JPEG images. Any help would be
greatly appreciated.

Dw does not open a image file as such, but you get Dw to
display it in
it's design view by "inserting" it into the page you are
designing.
With the cursor at the position on the page you want to
insert the
image ( in a table cell - or a css layout ) use:
Insert | Image
and navigate to the image using the Select source image box.

  • Can't open jpeg image

I'm using Adobe photoshop 7.0 and usually when I open a jpeg image it just opens but some jpeg images don't open properly. There is this jpeg image that when I try to open it it either displays an error message that it's not the right kind of file or brings up a dialog box as if I'm trying to open a new custom blank page and asks me what size, transparency etc. and no matter what I select it always opens a blank page and I could not actually see the image that's supposed to be there. In any other program it will open normally and display as a normal jpeg image in picture viewer or GIMP image editor but oddly won't open in Adobe Photoshop. I tried to open the same file in GIMP image editor and it opens the file but when I try to save the file, strangely it advises me to export the file before saving it. I believe that the jpeg file may have invisible layers that photoshop can't handle but I could not get rid of the layers properly. I've tried to flatten the image and export the file to a normal jpeg file and delete all invisible layers but even after all this, when I save it as a normal jpeg file and open it again in adobe photoshop it still can't open the file. Does anyone know how I can force the program to display the image and or permanently get rid of the weird layers or markers that has been preventing this file from opening in Adobe Photoshop?

Thank you for your assistance Nancy. Your process almost completely worked. The exception is that when I tried to copy the image from an webpage such as Firefox (I do not have internet explorer), it was not getting through to the Adobe Photoshop clipboard and therefore could not be pasted. However, I simply saved the image from a Firefox window as a different file name and that solved the problem. Now the copied image can be opened in Adobe Photoshop. Thank you for your help.
    sincerely,
    Jon

  • Can't open jpeg images from a DVD

I was given a DVD full of jpeg images that were conversions from old photos. I pop the DVD into the Macbook, click the DVD icon and it opens as a folder full of jpeg images. When I hit one to open it, I get the message "the alias __jpeg can't be opened because the original item can't be found."
    "Original item"? Huh?
Is there a problem with the disk, the photos or the computer?
Possible clue: putting the DVD into the computer does not automatically open any program(iPhoto or anything else). Thanks, in advance, for any help.

It sounds like whoever gave you the disk didn't actually burn the files, but only aliases of them.
Select any file on the DVD and go File -> Get Info. How big is the file?

  • Opening JPEG images in Preview slow as molasses

Used to load instantly with Tiger, but is now completely unusable.
My machine meets minimum requirements for Snow Leopard, and the OS is freshly installed and completely up to date. Other image formats work fine. Other apps open JPEGs instantly.
    This is a screen capture.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ylpCi7KtT3s
Kinda disappointed here. Only logical conclusion is that Preview is defective. How do I get it fixed?

I can't quote a technical article, but, from my own experience, it appears SL needs a lot more resources including RAM. 2 GB isn't a whole lot these days - I'd definitely recommend to max out your machine; not sure what your model would allow, but probably 4?
Looking at my Activity Monitor right now with nothing running except Firefox, it is showing me that 1.93 GB of RAM are being used - Firefox using about 250 MB - so the remainder is being used by the system. So, if I only had a total of 2 GB, there wouldn't be a whole lot of RAM available for doing much of anything....

  • Opening JPEG images in ACR

I read in a library book that I can work with JPEG images  in ACR by going to file >Open as selecting image and choosing the camera raw option. However the selected image appears in the main editing space, not in camera raw. I`m using elements 10 with windows XP. Can anyone tell me where I`m going wrong?

What's your screen vertical resolution ?
On some notebooks, it seems it is inferior to the required minimum vertical resolution for the camera raw dialog to appear (I am not sure, something like 800 pixels). Then the automatically converted raw may be opened in the normal editor.
Don't trust me too much for that, that's something I have never tested myself.

  • Cannot open JPEG images in Photoshop CS3

When I try to open jpeg pictures in photoshop cs3, i get an error: "Could not complete your request because an unknown or invalid JPEG marker type is found."
It has just recently begun doing this, like maybe three days ago. Has anyone ever seen this error, or know how to solve it?
    my system specs... AMD Turion tl-60 @ 2.0 GHz, 4gb Ram in vista 32 SP1, nvidia ge-force 7600, main hdd 200 GB 7200 RPM drive, 2nd hdd 80 GB 5400 RPM drive

I am getting errors (same as at top of thread, "invalid JPEG marker") saving a TIF as a JPEG, and then attempting to reopen the JPEG.
It seems to mostly work OK the first time, but if I then reopen the same TIF and save as a JPEG again - that JPEG will usually be corrupted. If I close Elements 2 each time, before opening a TIF and saving another JPEG, there is no problem.
I tried opening the corrupt JPEG with several other programs, and it definitely is corrupted.
This error did not occur several months ago as far as I am aware. We have tried this on all 4 of our computers. I am thinking that a Windows Update may be causing the problem. I tried using System Restore to go back to April 17th, but after 45 mins it announced that it couldn't restore, so I am reluctant to try another date.)

  • I can't open jpeg images. Is there an encryption setting?

I am trying to view a jpeg image sent to my email on my iphone from a remote computer. The images will not appear. Is there an encryption setting?

I am not familiar with this app, but I have never had any trouble with jpegs and email. What email client are you using the send the file? Are you using HTML or plain text in your email? Is Mime activated? Arre you attaching the file, or pasting it in the body of the email? When you check the email, is it completely downloaded? If you scroll to the bottom of the email, does it show that it is fully downloaded? In the mail settings, is Load Remote Images on?
Have you done any troubleshooting on the phone? Standard user troubleshooting includes restart (powering off/on), reset (holding the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release), restore from backup and if needed, restore as a new device.
Again, have you ever received a jpeg from anyone in mail and been able to see it? Can you try from a different mail client and see if it works?

  • Can't open Raw images from Nikon D3200

I can not open RAW files taken on Nikon 3200
HW & SW: Nikon 3200: Apple MacBook Pro OS v. 10.8.5, Adobe Photoshop Elements 11, Adobe Lightroom 5, Adobe DNG Converter
I had a Nikon D60 and used a removable card to store images. No problem.
One week ago, I bought a Nikon D3200 and still use the same memory cards I had used with the D60.
I have taken about 100 pictures in Aperture, Shutter and Automatic mode, all in RAW format.
Am using Nikon Transfer to import the images from the card to the MacBook.
Photoshop will open JPEG images captured from the D3200 in the JPEG format, but not those captured in RAW format.
I can preview the images on the D3200, but when I download to the Mac, the images do not open in Photoshop Elements 11, or in Adobe DNG 8.2, or in Adobe Lightroom 5.
Photoshop failure  message is: “Could not complete your request because the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw. Please visit the Camera Raw help documentation for additional information.”
DNG Converter failure message is: “The source folder does not contain any supported camera raw files.”
Adobe Lightroom failure message is: “The files are not recognized by the raw format support in Lightroom.”
I have downloaded most recent versions of Adobe Camera Raw and Adobe DNG. I have also uninstalled and then reinstalled Adobe Photoshop Elements 11.  When I try to open or import the images, the same failure messages occur.
So far Adobe products are failing and am hoping there is a solution.

For pse 8/LR 3 you would need the 8.3 Dng Converter to convert yout Nikon D3200
files to dng copies that can be open/inported by pse 8 or LR3
Since the camera raw version required is 7.1/LR4.1 or later and pse 8 (only up to camera raw 6.2) can't use that camera raw version, the dng converter is needed.

  • Using the Camera RAW interface for JPEG images

I realize JPEG's don't have the information level of RAW files, but does the convenience and speed of the RAW interface not make it worth using rather then going to the usual tools like Levels and Hue/Saturation? I discovered that you can open JPEG images in the RAW interface by choosing File > Open As...and selecting "Camera RAW" as the file format. Here you can not only use the RAW interface but also change the image to 16-bits. I also understand that upscaling an image from 8 to 16-bits doesn't add more information, but would working on it in the RAW interface at 16-bits not produce more subtle changes and give you more control over the outcome.
Looking forward to some intelligent feedback.

From a mathematical perspective, it would seem that using the extra information in the up-sampling interpolation calculations would be better. The question is whether or not the extra digits in the calculation would produce a difference in the image. I suspect that it would be quite image dependent. Easy enough to test, with the right kind of image, whatever that is?

I am trying to use photomerge compose.  I open one standard jpeg image and one image that is my business logo in a png format.  When I select the png image, to extract the logo from it, it appears as all white and will not allow me to select the logo from it.  It has worked in the past but I downloaded the update today and photomerge will not work correctly.  Any ideas?

    hedger,
How do you expect anyone to help when we don't know a darned thing about the file, abut your setup, exact version of Photoshop and your OS, machine specs, etc.?
    BOILERPLATE TEXT:
Note that this is boilerplate text.
If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand,
such as your platform (Mac or Win),
exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop (not just "CS6", but something like CS6v.13.0.6) and of Bridge,
your settings in Photoshop > Preference > Performance
the type of file you were working on,
machine specs, such as total installed RAM, scratch file HDs, total available HD space, video card specs, including total VRAM installed,
what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far,
    what error message(s) you receive,
if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them,
if you're having printing issues, indicate the exact make and model of your printer, paper size, image dimensions in pixels (so many pixels wide by so many pixels high). if going through a RIP, specify that too.
    etc.,
someone may be able to help you (not necessarily this poster, who is not a Windows user).
a screen shot of your settings or of the image could be very helpful too.

  • How do I change the JPEG image size in PSE-12 when opening from RAW

Switching from PSE-9 to PSE-12. When a JPEG image is opened RAW in PSE-12 the size is 18.72" Wide x 12.48" high 300 DPI. The same image in PSE-9 is 23.4" wide x 15.6" High 240 DPI. How do I get PSE-12 to open the image as in PSE-9?

Uncheck the boxes at the bottom of the dialog Scale styles and resample Image so that only constrain proportions is checked. If you the change the resolution box from 240 to 300 you will get back to your original dimensions.
This is a meaningless thing to do, you still have the exact same number of pixels, you have only changed the metadata number in the file for ppi, and your prints are not affected by this number.
You could also use the same method to change the dimensions to 6 x 4 or 9 x 6 etc.
There are some cases (actually most cases) where you need to CROP the photo to change the dimensions, when the aspect ratio of the original photos is different than the aspect ratio of the final photo; the specific case in 99jon's example is the only case you ever want to change dimensions using Image->Resize->Image Size, where the aspect ratio doesn't change from 6x4 to 9x6 (or 12x8 or 18x12 or ...), and even then, you could do the same thing simply by telling the printer the size you want, you don't really need to do anything in PSE.
