When i double click a JPEG thumbnail in Bridge CS3 it opens up in Paint. How do i get it to open up in Photoshop CS3.If i double click a PSD thumbnail it opens up in Photoshop CS3,but not the JPEG's.Have i got something set wrong.Thank You.Robert

Locate any JPG in Windows Explorer.
Right click.
Choose 'Open With'
Tick 'always use this program".
Select the application you want (ie PS CS3).
Same logic applies throughout Windows, so you can use this method to associate any extension with any program.

You may be able to drag and drop the icons from one toolbar onto another, you can then hide the toolbar that you no longer need. For details on how to do that see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/How+to+customize+the+toolbar

  • Unable to open jpeg in photoshop from Bridge

    Hi
I recently installed CS5 Production Premium on a Windows 7 computer. I have been unable to open Jpegs by right clicking the mouse. When I get the 'open with' tab, the default states Com Surrogate 6.1.
I am unable to ascertain how to set Photoshop as the default programme to open JPEG files.
    Any assistance woul be appreciated!
    Regards
    RoeBean

Default programs (at least in CS3) are in edit/preferences/file type associations.  Scroll down the list to change the default opening program.

  • Can't see open files in Photoshop CS3

    Hello all!
I'm sure this is a simple fix, but then again...
I have just had my OS updated from XP to Windows 7 and I'm running Photoshop CS3. I was working along just fine - no problems - and then all of a sudden I can no longer see my open files. I know they're open, because I can see them in the navigator. I haven't done anything with my preferences, so why would it work and then suddenly not? Any help would sure be appreciated!

Hah...I spoke too fast. It worked for a couple of images and now it's refusing to open files again. Sheesh. Can't need another update already, could it? Any suggestions?

  • When tyring to open some PDFs Photoshop CS3 crashes

Photoshop CS3 has been crashing when trying to open some of the PDF files. This doesn't happen with all the PDFs, only some of the PDFs are crashing CS3. We are not able to open these PDFs(which are crashing CS3) in CS2 also. But surprisingly these PDFs can be opened in Photoshop 7. Any ideas?

  • Can't open files in Photoshop CS3...Please Help!!

So last night I was downloading some pictures off my CF cards and apparently I have way too many pictures on my pc and it's full! So I stopped downloading and started deleting!
But while I was doing that, I tried to open some images in photoshop and it just freezes up. The dialog box pops up for a brief second when I try to open the image and then it just disappears. Then I can't click on anything. I have to "ctrl-alt-del" to even shut photoshop down. Does any one know what's up or how I can fix it?
I'm using CS3 and windows xp if that matters...
I have two drives. The drive that I have photoshop on has 184GB left on it...so plenty of space. The other drive...the one I store photos on...only has 32GB left.
I deleted a bunch of photos (need to go buy more DVD's to back up so I can delete more), uninstalled photoshop, cleaned up both hard drives, re-installed photoshop....and it's still doing the same thing. I don't know what else to do....

    Cyndi -
I would start with the easiest thing Archive the preference file to your desktop then we can continue from there if that doesnt work.
    - Close PS
    - Type this into your run menu
    %appdata%/adobe/adobe photoshop cs3/
    - Now drag the Adobe Photoshop CS3 Settings folder onto your desktop
    - Keep the adobe folder window open
    - Launch PS
    - If this works then there was something corrupted in the preferences somewhere
    - If this doesnt work then delete the newly created preference folder from the adobe folder and drag the one from your desktop back into the adobe folder.
    Hope this helps.

  • Slow folder item previews when opening files in Photoshop CS3

Can anyone advise me on the best way to improve the speed of previewing folder items/contents when navigating to items through the photoshop CS3 file finder? For some reason, one of my studio Macs, running Mac OS 10.4.1, and PShop CS3 takes ages to build a preview list of all the items in folders on our server (IBM RAID running RedHat).
Also experiencing similar issues just previewing items in column view through the MAC OS Finder windows.
Is there any remedy for this slow appearance of folder contents?
    Thanks for your help!
    Kind regds,
    Tim

This sounds like a server issue, and how it interfaces with that Mac. Do you have this issue with sifting through files stored locally on that machine?

  • Open jpegs from Premier CS3 in PhotoshopCS3 says locked file will not save to jpeg

When I open a jpeg or tiff, from Premiere to photoshop, and make some modifications (like simply mode to grayscale) and try to save it back to the jpeg it refuses, saying the file is locked and I should go to Explorer, properties and unlock. However the files are not locked in the properties, so my only choice is to save as another file, re-load it itno Premiere, and put it on the timeline. I used to be able to edit directly from Premier to Photoshop, and save - on CS3!
I have no clue what I might have done to cause this, except it is a fresh install of Master Suite on a fresh install of Vista Ultimate.
    Any help appreciated.
    Jack

I also realize that my saying, "that is the way it works for me," doesn't help you, since it doesn't work for you. Did it EVER work for you? YES IT DID, THAT IS WHAT IS PUZZLING, AND IN CS3 ALSO.
    Couple of thoughts/questions:
Are you networked? YES, 2 WSIDE BY SIDE AND A THECUS RAID5 5 TERABYTE DATA BOS WHERE I KEEP MANY VIDEO AND STILLS. Are you logged in as an Administrator? I AM THE ONLY ADMINISTRATOR AND LOGGED IN AS SUCH. Are the Assets on internal (non-mapped) HDDs? IN FACT THE THECUS ACTS JUST LIKE ANOTHER INTERNAL HARD DRIVE, NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH IT BEFORE. I'M NOT MUCH OF A COMPUTER PERSON, SO NOT EVEN SURE WHAT MAPPED MEANS, BUT WHEN I WAS ABLE TO EDIT FROM PREMIERE BY SIMPLY CLICKING ON EDIT IN PHOTOSHOP, AND THE ASSETS WERE STORED ON THE THECUS, FIXES CAME BACK DIRECTLY TO PREMIERE. NOW THE SAY 'LOCKED' Any on external, or mapped-network HDDs? Are the Assets coming off of some media like CD, or DVD, and not first being transferred to internal HDDs? ALL ASSETS ARE ON INTERNAL DRIVES. I'VE TRANSFERRED SOME MEDIA TO THE SCRATCH DISC INTERNAL DRIVE AND GET THE SAME RESULT. If they originate FROM CD/DVD, are you making sure that they are not listed as Read Only, after copying? ALL I HAVE CHECKED HAVE NO CHECK ON READ ONLY. NONE ARE RECENTLY BROUGHT IN, I HAVE NEARLY 30,000 PHOTOS SEVERAL TERABYTES OF VIDEO. Windows likes to flag them that way, and it can bite you later. Anyone else on your network using these Assets? Are you using them in AE, AI, InDesign, etc., while also using them in Premiere/PS? I ONLY HAVE PREMIERE AND PHOTOSHOP OPEN, I EVEN CLOSED DOWN BRIDGE. Last, do you have Indexing turned on for any of your HDDs, as Windows loves to "lock" files, while it does its indexing. I turn this off for ALL HDDs, especially for my large externals. (Sometimes, when I move the external HDDs from workstation to workstation, XP will turn Indexing back on, and I have to disable this - happens about 10% of the time.) I HAVE RECENTLY INSTALLED COPERNIC TO DO SEARCHING, VISTA IS NOT FINDING THINGS WELL ENOUGH, IT MIGHT BE THE INDEXING, I'LL TRY THAT WHEN I GET BACK THIS AFTERNOON. THANKS FOR THE TIPS AND 20 QUESTIONS. THIS IS THE KIND OF HELP THAT THEY MEAN ABOUT RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS, THANKS
    AND PARDON THE CAPS
    JACK
"Locking" is usually tied into permissions. That's why I ask about the networking aspects.
Wish I had a quick fix for you.

  • Bridge buggy opening file in photoshop CS3

I have totally uninstalled (removing every bit!), re-installed, deleted prefs ad nauseum. If I start CS3 from the application icon (yes it is still in the default folder where I installed it *again* yesterday) all is well. If I try to open a photo from Bridge by right clicking I get two choices: open in Photoshop 10.0.1, or open in Photoshop 10.0.1 (default)
Why does the right click on either choice open a buggy problem? First I'm told the application moved (it didn't and deleting the prefs didn't help) then, whether I chose repair or not, it opens but tells me that all my filters didn't load and it lines my menu bar with at least a half dozen "onOne" menus. Then when I close I get the message that it quit unexpectedly.
I just had to go through a long process (thank you Adobe for the knowledge base!) getting my license to work again. Now I find there is some kind of communication problem between Bridge and CS3.
Maybe that's why Adobe stopped supporting older versions. The program has gotten too big and buggy?
If I drag the file from Bridge to the opened Photoshop (from the application folder) it opens perfectly. Since I have a work around, this isn't crucial, but I really wonder if anyone can explain the communication bug? Not much chance I'll spend the money for an upgrade to CS4. Especially since support will stop as soon as CS5 comes out. CS3 is buggy enough for me.

Anne, with all respect, I differ with you. It's easy to blame the user when problems happen. I happen to be paranoid about maintaining my computer and so far, after switching to my Mac, it is mainly Adobe programs that cause problems, no matter how careful I am. Of course I might avoid problems by never installing useful plugins (and sometimes it is the plugin that causes a problem). Possibly my installation of the OnOne plugins (I really love these) caused this problem with Bridge.
Computers are almost essential; for me one main enjoyment in life is working with my photos. I usually can figure out my problems on my own --learned to do that when I was running Windose :-) but in all fairness there are quirks and bugs that are NOT the user's doing. I figure if I'm not having problems it's luck as well as being careful.
Hoping you won't take offense. The few times I have visited the forums you have been kind and helpful.
Ramón, I will be checking out the Bridge forums from now on. This discussion has probably run it's course. Thank you again.

  • Error opening KMZ files Photoshop CS3 Extended for Windows

I just installed PS CS3 Extended and tried to open a Google KMZ file and received the following error: "Could not complete your request because the file format module cannot parse the file" I also tried creating a new document and insert a new layer from 3D file and received this error:
"could not complete the new layer from 3d file command because of program error"
My system is an HP Mobile Workstation w/Intel Centrino Dou proc., Nvidia Quadro FX 1600M running in Windows XP Professional
    Any suggestions!

I have Google Earth pro ver. 4.3 along with Sketch up Pro ver. 6.4
Youre correct, I can open KMZ files exported from Sketch up which works fine. But it will not open a KMZ file created from Google Earth.
Hey Richard, when you get a chance, please upload a simple cube or object from Sketch up to GE . Then right click the model under the Temporary Places folder in the sidebar. Chose save place as then KMZ. Now see if you can open it from PS. Please let me know. Thanks, Pat

  • Jpegs made in CS3 (mac) not opening on Windows XP machines

a few of my users have told me of problems that when they create a jpeg in Photoshop CS3 (with all the updates done) sometimes windows machines can't open the document. They open fine on other macs, just not on the XP machines. Isn't a jpeg a jpeg? is there some mythical setting that I'm missing here? Any and all help is MUCH appreciated.

There was a similar problem that popped up here at the place where I work... I run the only Mac systems in a company that has nothing but PC's everywhere else in the building...they run XP. Suddenly, for no apparent reason, the PCs would not display graphic files that were sent from my Mac via email. All of the PCs could display the graphics before, but now they suddenly could not.
It was discovered that Microsoft had sent out a service pack update that had included some code that "inadvertently" turned off the ability of Internet Explorer to view graphic files sent from Macs.
The fix was for the PC users to do some sort of setting to reverse what the service pack had done. Once that was done, the XP machines could once again view graphics sent from my Macs.
The IT department said that MS had sent out a fix, and they had to "back off of the fix" to reverse whatever had been done.

  • How to open Camera RAW (CR2) files in Photoshop CS3 and CS4? (Mac)

I have a Canon 7D. I prefer to shoot in raw format, but the CR2 files cannot be opened by either Photoshop CS3 on my Mac in the office OR by Photoshop CS4 on my iMac at home.
I have tried dowloading the Adobe DNG Coverter and Camera Raw 4.6 update (which is SUPPOSEDLY intended to work for CS3) and followed the instructions to replace the plug-in. STILL a no-go. CS3 STILL tells me "Could not complete your request because Photoshop does not recognize this type of file."
What gives? Does anyone know of a way to get CR2 files to open in Photoshop CS3 or CS4? (A way that actually works?) Because Adobe's plug-in update doesn't seem to do it, and Canon's "fine-grain" editing controls for raw images is pretty lack-luster.
    Thanks (in advance)!

Have you tried opening up out of Bridge? If that doesn't work you may new need to download a new driver from Canon. All my peripherals are Canon and I am always having to download new drivers everytime I update. Fortunatly they are really easy to find on Canon's site.

  • Unable to open JPEG's directly in Photoshop

I had my Bridge preferences set to open JPEGs in Camera Raw. I recently disabled this option but Bridge stubbornly refuses to open JPEGs in Photoshop and I still end up in Camera Raw. The options to open JPEGs in Camera Raw have been turned off in Bridge prefs and Camera Raw prefs. What is going on!

    JC,
There are at least three places where you set that, not just in Bridge but
also in Photoshop and ACR. Check ALL your preferences.
    >What is going on!

  • Saved images appear as 72dpi Photoshop CS3 Extended

    Hi
Suddenly my images which have been saved at 300dpi are coming up as 72dpi when I re-open them in Photoshop CS3 Extended.
I create a psd file at 300dpi, work on it, save it as a maximum quality jpeg/png etc, but when I open it up in Photoshop again it appears as 72dpi. Even the finished jpeg/png file sizes seem too small. I'm creating business cards and graphics for customers and I must know they are saved at 300dpi.
Can anyone help? Do you think I may have a bug? Fairly sure it's fully updated.
    Thanks!

One qualification is that my comments were derived from Photoshop CS4.
In that setup a file saved in SFW at 333 ppi and with the All meta data box checked produces a jpeg file, which when opened in Photoshop, shows the resolution (from the Image size dialog box) to be 72 ppi.
If I then click on File > File Info > camera data it shows the resolution to be 333
If I look at the so-called Raw data in the SFW file I indeed find the resolutions specified
Photoshop Version difference ?  Perhaps.  Or, maybe I got one of the platinum editions   . So for CS4 I find that when I ask to have the meta data saved via SFW it seems to happen.

  • Batch change jp2 files to Photoshop (CS3)

I found a website that allows you to download old (public domain) books. Each page is saved as a jp2, which I can't open in Photoshop CS3. I found an plugin that enables me to open them, and I could have sworn it was working, but it suddently stopped working for some reason.
Anyway, I have a folder full of folders with over a thousand jp2 images. I can open them in Pixelmator and save them as Photoshop files, but that's very time consuming. So, can anyone tell me if there's a way to do a batch change - convert every jp2 image in the folder to a format that I can open in Photoshop CS3?
Also, can anyone recommend an online guide to batch changing. I'd like to learn how to batch change file sizes; for example convert all images that are 4,000 pixels wide to 500 pixels wide. I'd also like to learn how to batch change file names. I probably have to pursue each of these separately, but I just wondered if there's some sort of online central guide to batch changing.
    Thanks.

".jp2" is just the file extension for JPEG 2000, which a number of applications can open, including your Photoshop CS3, Photoshop 13 ("CS6"), Apple Preview, GraphicConverter, Safari, Firefox, etc..  Just install the JPEG2000.plugin from the Optional Plug-Ins folder in your CS3.
