Opening Jpegs for editing same as Raw

Can anyone please help me?
I use Photoshop Elements 6 and when I want to open a RAW image, I get a set of sliders on the right hand side that allows me to do basic editing there before actually opening the image. I like to use this method of editing. Is it possible to get the same screen when I open up a jpeg for editing? I have attached a screen of my preferred method.

Barbara your instruction is correct but when I do that I was ask to fill up width and height in pixel. I try to use the original file size but it says the size is larger than the original. I tried to use smaller pizel and it says it is too samall. I open it anyway and what I saw is just dot scatered all over the the photo. Will you please help me what size I have to use?

Clicking on thumbnail in iPhoto does not open image for editing/viewing.

Clicking on images in iPhoto 7 does not open large images for editing or viewing. No ? or ! shows, just blank white screen with all buttons active as if the image is ready for editing. iPhoto library is about 50GB. What I've tried: created new library and imported 20 photos, rebuilt library w/keys using last 3 items in list, rebuilt library using iPhoto Library Manager. Quit everything, repaired permissions via Disk Utility. Nothing has worked. Was working fine a few days ago with same camera, same settings, etc. Utterly baffling, would love other suggestions?

I am attempting to open a vi for editing, and instead the vi is attempting to execute. I get the error:
"Error 7 occurred at Invoke Node in BuildTargetBuildSpecification.vi->BuildXFS.vi"
Possible reason(s): LabVIEW: File not found. The file might have been moved or deleted, or the file path might be incorrectly formatted for the operating system. For example, use \ as path separators on Windows, : on Mac OS, and / on Linux. Verify that the path is correct using the command prompt or file explorer.

Error 7 generally occurs when trying to create an executable when there is an extra instance of a top-level vi. You may need to remove the file as a support file (but leave it as the top level vi).
Are you trying to run an executable that has already been created? Unless you have already built an executable, it should not automatically run when opened. Also, was it built in a previous version of LabVIEW? Sometimes this error can be seen when you upgrade to a newer version without compiling.

Open file for edit

hi
lets say i am doing a program similiar to autocad
and i need to open the file for edit in my java program
the file format is my own custom format, not autocad format
my question is that does it more sense to create a clone of the copy to edit
or edit the opened file directly...

Create a clone. If something goes wrong, the user can always revert to the original file.
(On the other hand, this may also depend on what you are really doing to "edit the file". I suspect that very fiew user applications actually make changes directly into a source file.)

Opening jpegs from iPhoto in Camera Raw

Hi there, I really hope someone can help me as i have just purchased PSE10 for Mac and am a complete novice!. I have bought the book 'The photoshop elements 10 book for digital photographers' and would like to begin to learn to edit my jpeg photos (organised in iphoto) in camera raw, however after setting PSE 10 as my external editer it only opens the jpegs in an editer but not the camera raw one.
Is there a way of changing this? I've searched the net for a the answer but cant find it
I plan to take future photos in Raw mode so I only need this for my existing photos

Not sure about iPhoto but you cdan opeb directly from the Editor App.
Open the Editor and click:
File à Open
Select your image and choose camera raw as the format, then click the Open button.
The image should open in the Adobe Camera Raw dialog where you ca use all the regular sliders.

Get Info sees different "Open With" for the same file on different computer

I've got a laptop (17") and a desktop, both with OSX 10.4.3. I had a disk problem with the laptop, but was able to get everything off the disk, reformat it, and put it all back. Everything's been working fine until today, when I tried to use the Equation Editor in Office. It wouldn't work. As I tried to chase down the problem, including reinstalling Office, I realized that my laptop was seeing certain Office files using GetInfo as "Open With" Netscape. I compared this with the settings on the desktop, and they were different. Different applications, different icons, even.
Then I noticed that when I have the CD in the laptop and do GetInfo on a file there, or even look at the icon, it's different from what appears when I look at the same file on the desktop. So it appears to be an OSX issue, not a Microsoft issue.
I've rebuilt permissions several times. I changed the OpenWith settings, but that didn't solve the problem. But I think it's because other Office files are being misread by the OS, too.
If anyone has a diagnosis (and hopefully, a cure), I'd really appreciate it.

In associating documents with applications, Finder employs Launch Services. Launch Services employs several files to associate documents with applications and vice versa. When these files become corrupted, this can result in problems including:
- The wrong applications being launched when double-clicking a file.
- Multiple copies of a single application appearing in the Open With menu for a given document.
- Incorrect icons appearing on files, folders, or other objects.
The following steps will remove all of the files used by Launch Services. Be sure to read these instructions entirely, including the Notes, before proceeding.
1. Quit all running applications.
2. Trash the following two files in the Computer > Macintosh HD > Library > Caches folder:
- com.apple.LaunchServices-0140.csstore
- com.apple.LaunchServices-014xxx.csstore
where xxx is the uid number for the affected account in the NetInfo database. Type your Admin password when prompted to authenticate the deletion of the first file. See Notes [1] and [2].
3. Trash the com.apple.LaunchServices.plist file in your Home > Library > Preferences folder. See Note [3].
4. Restart your Mac.
5. Log in to your account.
6. Empty the Trash.
Do not empty the Trash until after you have restarted your Mac.

[1] Step 2 will result in you being prompted to approve the launch of the application associated with a document the first time you double-click a document. These alerts are a result of the security feature in Mac OS X. The list of applications which you have previously approved are saved in the caches deleted in step 2.
[2] The first user account defined on your Mac is generally uid 501, the second uid 502, and so forth. For example, the second file ID for the first account would becom.apple.LaunchServices-014501.csstoreYou can find the uid number for any account as follows:1. Launch NetInfo Manager, which is in the Computer > Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities folder.
2. Select users in the middle column of the NetInfo Manager window.
3. Select the desired user account in the right column of NetInfo Manager.
4. The data for the selected user, including uid, is displayed in the lower pane of the NetInfo Manager window.[3] Step 3 will reset to default values all associations you have created between specific file types and applications. For example, if you set PDFs to open in Adobe Acrobat instead of Preview, they would now open in Preview again until the association of PDFs with Acrobat is reset. However, if skipping step 3 does not resolve the problem, running steps 1-6 again, including step 3, should resolve the problem.

Open Illustrator template file (open original) for editing?

I know InDesign has an "Open Original" option in the file open dialog box so you can open and edit an indesign template, but I don't see an equivalent in Illustrator.
how would i open the original AIT file so i can make changes straight to it withouth having to resave a new file?

Thanks for submitting this thread--I've been wondering the same thing.
Has anything changed at all in the three years since? I have about 600 templates to which I need to make a number of small edits, and it would save a lot of time to avoid navigating to the original template to save over it.

Importing jpegs for editing

Sorry to start this thread because I have read
some of the past replies to my same question that others have submitted but I can't
seem to get a handle on my problem. I have some pic/jpeg fi
les that I want to import to my video. After reading your replies to others with questions I have learned that the files should be edited down to 1000 x 750 px's. I received these pic files in an email. I have tried to edit them or import them to my project and I get this error message that they are not in the correct format although they are in jpeg just heavier than they should be. Any help you can offer is appreciated. I read one of Hunt's articles but his explanation is way over my paygrade in this matter lol.

It appears that Jim's client used an e-mail client program, like Outlook (though they are on a Mac), that structures Image Attachments a bit differently. They are put into a .DAT wrapper. I encountered those some years ago, with one client using the then-current Outlook. I struggled with them, but found a utility from the UK, that was cheap, and did batch extraction of the files from the .DAT wrapper.
While experimenting, I tried doing a Save_As of the .DAT files, as [File Name].JPEG, and got [File Name].JPEG.DAT. In Windows Explorer, I just went in and deleted the ".DAT" from the file name, and then the JPEG files Opened fine in Photoshop CS2. I did not bother to Scale the Images in PS, but just Imported them into PrE 4.0, where they were fine, with no interaction, or changes in PS. I did have to Scale to Frame Size, to fill the Video Frame, in my test Project,but all was fine.
I hope that this helps others, if they get JPEG Images wrapped in the .DAT container via e-mail.

PS - I do not know all of the e-mail client programs, that use the .DAT "wrapper," and have not seen similar in some years. Please note: those .DAT files are NOT the system .DAT files. I would NOT try getting those into PrE.

Are there tips for editing RW2 (Panasonic RAW) files in Lightroom?

When editing RW2 fiels, I find that the colors are flat and I'm having a hard time recovering details, even when I auto-bracket and combine images with the HDR tool. I think I had better success with JPG images from an older Lumix camera I owned than I am with the RAW files from this camera (Lumix DMC-FZ200).
I also have a Canon DSLR, and LR works beautifully with these RAW images. Not sure why there is the problem with Panasonic's RAW files. Has anyone else had this problem, and is there a way to optimize RW2 files for use in LR?

Lr uses Camera Raw internally for processing raw files.
You create renditions by editing raw images in develop mode until you are satisfied, and then exporting those renditions.
If you mean you want access to proprietary NEF settings placed in the raw image by the camera or Nikon software... this is not possible. You can mimic some of the settings with camera profiles and presets, but Lr (like most software) does not have (complete, unfettered, unencumbered) access to proprietary image details. Adobe uses the public Nikon SDK to get access to the encrypted WB information.

Can't open photo for editing in Photoshop Elements

I am trying to edit a photo from my LR 5 Library in PE 11, but when I follow the normal process to do this, PE opens OK but my photo does not appear in PE at all. Is there some bug I don't know about? Or some other solution to fix this problem?

Go to LR preferences and look under the External Editing tab to ensure you have the editor application selected. A common mistake is to choose the shortcut. If necessary click the choose button again and on Windows navigate to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 11
You need to select PhotoshopElementsEditor
On Mac OSX you should select the application from the Support Files Folder. Click link below:

Possible system for editing Scarlet 3k raw footage

After spending a few days on the Reduser.net forum, these are my findings for a decent post workflow with the upcoming RED Scarlet 3K raw acquisition camera. --
i7 980x 6 core cpu (or dual Xeon X5680 cpus- considerably more expensive!)
Compatible motherboard (for either) supporting 24 - 48GB RAM
Nvidia GTX 480 graphics card
4+ Western Digital Black-X 1TB 6Gbps SATA drives configured to RAID-5
At the moment, this should do it. I trust we'll see other computer hardware offerings before the release of the camera.

I have installed Lion and the Java update but my CS5 PS will not open jpegs to edit.

I have loaded Lion, and updated my Java but for some reason my Photoshop doesn't want to load pictures. I can see them in the layers, but the actual image is just not coming up. Maybe this is nothing to do with Lion, but if anyone has any ideas it would be great! Really don't want to have to reload everything from SL if possible. My other Adobe programs work fine.

After Java is installed, you may need to enable it.
In your Applications > Utilities folder, you should find the Java Preferences.app.
Double click on that, and in the ‘General’ tab, make sure that the enable checkbox at the top is checked.

Why can I no longer open jpeg files in camera raw in CS2? The option is grayed out in Bridge

I was forced to download CS2 from the web after Adobe stopped allowing me to register it from my disks and now I can no longer open files in camera raw. Am I missing something?

As far as i know, photoshop cs2 and adobe bridge 1 (cs2) could not open jpegs or tiffs into camera raw, only camera raw files.
I believe photoshop cs3 was the first version to allow jpegs to be opened in camera raw.
Are you sure you had photoshop cs2 before?
If on the other hand, you can't open camera raw files that you used to be able to open, then you probably just need to update the camera raw plugin to version 3.7

Opening image in PS for editing

I have been using Bridge and thought I'd download a LR trial and see how it works. I like the interface, but have one problem that may be a preference setting I cannot find. I am used to double-clicking on the thumbnail to open it for editing in PS. I cannot seem to do that in LR. The only way I can open an image is to right-click and then select 'Edit in' and select 'Photoshop'.
Is there an easier way?

Automatically clear the open items for a GL account cross company codes

Can anyone help me on the following issue urgently?
There are journal entries posted to same GL account with different company code. Is there any way to automatically clear the open items sitting in the GL account in company code A to against the open items for the same GL account in company code B.
The example is below:
Journal in company code A
Dr. 840410      $100
Cr. 111300       $100
Journal in company code B
Dr. 111301   $100
Cr. 840410      $100
Now I want to automatically clear account 840410 by using assignment or text in the journal entry.
It will be highly appreciated for any instructions.

Hello Adele Wang,
You can enter cross-company code transactions in one step in the General Ledger, Accounts Receivable, and Accounts Payable application components. This function would be used, for example, for centralized procurement or payment.
Integration:For centralized payments, each individual company code enters its own invoices separately, while a central company code pays them. When you are clearing open items, the system makes clearing entries between the company codes participating in the clearing procedure. These clearing entries represent the receivables and payables that exist between the company codes in centralized payment.
Prerequisites:You have specified which company codes are to be processed via a single company code. In this specification, you can distinguish between clearing transactions. You can therefore have different combinations of company codes for incoming and outgoing payments.
You have specified the clearing accounts that record the receivables and payables between the individual company codes. The system posts to these accounts automatically when clearing the open items.
You need to make the required settings in the activity Prepare Cross-Company Code Manual Payments in Customizing for Financial Accounting (Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable->Business Transactions->Outgoing Payments->Manual Outgoing Payments).
Features:For each company code, the system generates a separate clearing document. A joint transaction number marks these documents as belonging together.
Example:For a clearing transaction (incoming payment, outgoing payment), you have agreed in Customizing that if company code 0001 is specified, open items are also selected from other company codes (0002 and 0003).

Clearing can then also be carried out if the account to be cleared has not been created in company code 0001. As long as no items have to be posted to this account in company code 0001, it is not necessary to create a master record for the account in company code 0001.
