Opening JPF (JPEG2000) files in CS4

I cannot get my CS4 Extended to open my JPF photos notwithstanding that I have loaded the JPEG2000 plugin. The screen message tells me that it is not the right kind of document. Does anyone have any idea as to what the problem might be?

Further to my earlier reply I suddenly remembered that I had created the JPF
files in Photoshop 3 Extended which fortunately I still have loaded on my
computer. I was able to open the JPF files into that and save the them as
JPEG files which I can now open in CS4.  Problem solved !! Thanks again for
your help. Learning how to use and manipulate Photoshop is a continuous
process and the interaction between Forum users is invaluable.

  • Can't open canon raw files in cs4

I recently had to rebuild my pc after a problem that stopped a few of my programs working (I'd installed xampp so I could use wordpress on the pc but it stopped cs4, firefox, video studio and a bunch of other stuff working - removal and reinstalling did no use, I had to build a new disc).
I reinstalled cs4 and got all the updates but now I find I can't open can raw files with cs4 or bridge. I tried replacing the Camera Raw.8bi file with the latest file from adobe as per their web instructions but it still doesn't work. So I tried the adobe dng convertor (version 8.3) and ran the files through that, still no luck, I can't open the files.
I could open them wwith canons own software and save as a tiff, but then I'm losing a lot of information.
I'm still running vista home premium - no I can't upgrade to windows 8.1 and use the latest photoshop and lightroom software because 8.1 doesn't work with my nikon scanner or my epson large format printer. It doesn't like a few other items I have either.
I remember I had to download a few files a couple of years ago when I first bought the pc (a whole 3 years ago) as I was having trouble with photoshop and raw files then but I can't remember the name of the file or where I got it from.
Anyone able to help? much appreciated if you can.

    Hi John,
Adobe told me to replace the relevant file, which I did. The trouble is that went I do this then 'camera raw' disappears from the 'help / plugins' list and there doesn't seem to be any way of getting back other than uninstalling and reinstalling cs4, and once I do this it overwrites the files again...
I can't remember having this trouble when I first installed it a couple of years ago but I do seem to remember having to replace a file somewhere but that may have been on an earlier version.
    I have an old EOS 5d mk1 & a 7d mk1, so it's not as though the camera is unknown to cs4.
    Regards,
    Doug

  • Open Flash CS5 file in CS4

    Hey all,
I think I know the answer to this, but ... Is there any way I can open a CS5 file in CS4? A designer I'm working with created some files using her CS5. She's on vacation for 2 weeks (so I can't have her edit or resend the files as CS4) and I just got an email that the client needs a couple tweeks and all I have is CS4. Is there any way (or any program) that can backwards convert a CS5 file?
    Thx.

If you had access to CS5 you could save as CS5 or save as CS4 (but not CS3 or below).  But opening a CS5 Flash file in Flash CS4 produces a "unexpected file type" error.

  • Paragraph style issue when opening imdl (CS5) file in CS4

Sending a CS5 file to a printer using CS4.  When they open the imdl file in CS4, it changes the paragraph style in the pull quotes. The initial character, whether a letter or a quote, appears tiny.  It looks like a paragraph style issue.  The 'quote' paragraph style in CS4 has a drop cap set on it.
Has anyone else had this problem or have a suggested fix? Certainly, we can check our files in CS4 before sending each time, but what a pain!

IDML is meant as an interchange format, and is far from "the same file but in another version".
If your printer wants a CS4 file, send them a CS4 file. Better yet, ask them why you have to send them native files anyway and what's their problem with a PDF?

  • Can't open flash/fla files (with CS4) - might be version issue

    Hi,
I am trying to edit a website for a friend (built with Flash and XML) and i can't seem to get into any of the .Fla files.
I don't know if it is my version of Flash (CS4) or the files and not sure how i could test it. Could also just be a CS5 file hence i can't open it.
Any help or suggestions would be great. Please help i don't know what to do, haha.

I wasn't sure which hosts were allowed so if i messed up please let me know.
    Thanks

    Hi Asher,
You  cannot open a file which is saved in future version such as CS5  version  in Flash CS4 .This is as designed .
If you need to open a CS5 file in CS4 , You need to save the file as CS4 file  and then open in Flash CS4 .
    Thanks

  • How do you open Jpeg 2000 files in CS4

I am using PS CS4 on a virtual windows. I don't think that should matter. But I cannot open the jpeg 2000 or jpf 2000 files.
Please advise. Do I have to buy software/plugin to do this?

The installation disc contains a variety of extras to help you make the most of your Adobe software. Some extras are installed on your computer during the setup process; others are located on the disc.
To view the extras on the disc, navigate to the Goodies folder in your language folder on the disc. Example: .../English/Goodies/

  • Message - Can't open a Scratch File & Photoshop CS4 Won't load

I just installed Photoshop CS4, both the 32 and 64 bit versions (part of the "Master Collection"). After opening the programs I changed the scratch disk location to two separate drives other than where Photoshop resides, where it had placed said file as a default. Now neither Photoshop versions will open.
    I get the following message:
"Could not open a scratch file because the scratch file is locked..."
Just one problem, there is no scratch file visible on either of the two drives...
My operating system is Vista Ultimate on a 64 bit Quad CPU machine with 8Gb of ram, two Raptor HDs, four 750Gb HDs configured into one RAID 5 drive and Nvida GEForce 8800GTS graphics card.
Has anyone here experienced a similar problem???
    Cheers,
    Michael

Had the same problem, and called Adobbe tech support, who solved the problem <g>.  In Computer find the disk you want to use as a scratch disk, select, right click, and choose properties.  Go to the Security tab and highlight Users (your name) and look at the Permissions.  To use as a scratch disk, Full control needs to be checked (Allowed).  If it's not, edit the Permissions for Users, and check Full Control.  Apply and OK. Setting that disk as a scratch disk should now work fine.

  • Issues with opening CR2 raw files in CS4

I have a Cannon EOS 60D Camera and I also have photoshop CS4.
When I try to open my raw photos into CS4, it does not recognise the file and says words to the effect of "this file is not recognised".
I tried to install the 5.3 plug in but this did not work.

  • How can I open 100D RAW files in CS4, I have tried everything.

Hi guys, can someone please help me.  I am trying to open 100D RAW files in PS CS4.  I have tried so many things including downloading the plug in and even DNG converting but would rather be able to open RAW files direct and not have to convert everything to DNG anyway as it is time wasting.  Can someone please help!  Thanks, Jen.

    http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/camera-raw-plug-supported-cameras.html
The 100D is supported from ACR 7.4, which was released shortly after the camera came on market. ACR 7.x requires Photoshop CS6 to run, and won't work in the by now very old Photoshop CS4.
So your only option is to convert to DNG and open those in ACR 5.x / PS CS4. (or upgrade, of course, but I take it you don't want that).
    EDIT: assuming Canon 100D.

  • Opening CS5.5 file into CS4

The office I worked at got the InDesign 5.5 trial. In the middle of working on a docu the trial ended.
They do have the Creative Suite 4 cd, but I'm unable to open the CS5.5 file into CS4.
Changing the file to a .IMDL didn't work, but also not sure if I didn't do it right.

One of the staff members has CS5 on her laptop, so I just put the file on a flashdrive and try to open it and I got these.

  • Opening older flash file in CS4

I'm doing some small edits to a few lines of text in a .fla file.  The file was created with an older version of Flash.  When I edit this fla in CS4 and then export it to .sfw and play the movie it does not display correctly.   Can I edit an oder file using CS4?
the older file is using ActionScript 2.0.

    yes, you can.
what problem are you seeing and what flash player version are you publishing for?

we commonly work with foor plans which multiple laters of data.  We are noticing that nearly all of the files created in cs2 are displaying automatically moving layers when opened in CS4.  A layer of symbols or objects simply "shifts" to an alternate location and there is no easy way to fix it.  We are unable to identify a fix tho these files other than locating an old verison of cs2 to open them with.

  • Unable to open a CS file in CS4 After Computer Crash

    Can anyone offer any help.
I was using my computer with my indesign CS files open, when the graphics card broke on the motherboard - I now have removed the Disk Drive and have it in a cradle attached to a new computer.
Trouble is I can not open the files on my new comp on CS4 - it states "The file is already open by another user or application, the file may be stored on a network server and can not be used until the user closes it"
I have made sure that all files on the old drive are available via the security tab to the new machine - I have also made sure each individual file is able to be used by the new comp.
It seems that the file is in use and I do not know how to resolve it. I have found references to the fact the file may be locked in the preference file but I do not seem able to locate it in a satisfactory way (if thats in fact the problem)
Its probably complicated as the crash occured on the other drive not the main drive where the CS4 software is located
    Can anyone offer any advice?
    Many thanks

ACTUALLY HERE IS THE FULL PROCESS:
    Prerequisites
Log on as an administratorYou must be logged on to Windows as an administrator in order to change security permissions for a file or a folder. If the computer is your personal computer, you are likely already logged on with an administrator account. If the computer is part of a network at work, you might have to ask the system administrator for help. To verify that you are logged on to Windows with a user account that is a computer administrator, visit the following Microsoft Web site:
    http://support.microsoft.com/gp/admin
Start Windows XP Home Edition in safe modeIf you are running Windows XP Home Edition, you must start the computer in safe mode, and then log on with an account that has administrative rights in order to access the Security tab. Access to the Security tab is required in order to change security permission. If you are running Windows XP Professional, you do not have to start the computer in safe mode. For more information about how to start Windows XP in safe mode, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
304449  How to start the System Restore tool at a command prompt in Windows XP
Disable Simple File Sharing in Windows XP ProfessionalIf you are using Windows XP Professional, you must disable Simple File Sharing. By default, Windows XP Professional uses Simple File Sharing when it is not joined to a domain. For additional information about how to do this, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
307874  How to disable simplified sharing and set permissions on a shared folder in Windows XP
To take ownership of a file or a folder
How to take ownership of a fileYou must have ownership of a protected file in order to access it. If another user has restricted access and you are the computer administrator, you can access the file by taking ownership.
To take ownership of a file, follow these steps:
Right-click the file that you want to take ownership of, and then click Properties.
Click the Security tab, and then click OK on the Security message (if one appears).
Click Advanced, and then click the Owner tab.
In the Name list, click Administrator, or click the Administrators group, and then click OK.
The administrator or the administrators group now owns the file.
To change the permissions on the file that you now own, follow these steps:
    Click Add.
In the Enter the object names to select (examples) list, type the user or group account that you want to have access to the file. For example, type Administrator.
    Click OK.
In the Group or user names list, click the account that you want, and then select the check boxes of the permissions that you want to assign that user.
When you are finished assigning permissions, click OK.
You can now access the file.

  • ??  Cannot open Nikon NEF files in CS4 (or CS2)  !!???

    Hi,
I have had problems using CS2 previously. I could not open RAW files from my Nikon D90 (saved as NEF files). So I just bought CS4 upgrade to see if I could overcome the problem. No luck.
I also downloaded Camera Raw 4.4.1.85. I can see the file metadata -- showing that the files are NEF. But whenever I try to open one, I get the message:  "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document."
Please help !!!!    This is the same message I got before when using CS2.
I cannot attach an example NEF file because they are too large --- but tell me where to send one if needed...
    Thanks,
    picknpaws
P.S.  I wasn't sure if I should post this here, or in the Camera Raw forum...?. Should I post this over there too?

    Not too, instead of...
You need to update Camera Raw. Go to the Camera Raw product page and get the update...

  • Can't open my .psd file using CS4 windows XP & Mac OSX

I am using photoshop CS4 on windows XP I cannot open my file. the message reads: Could not complete your request because the version is not compatible with this version of photoshop.
I did open the file on my mac OSX CS4 as well to try to use some of the fonts installed there. Now the file will not open on either platform. Are there known issues with crossing platforms? I believe the files were always universal before?

    There is normally no problem.
You failed to mention what format the file had.
If fonts are missing, it should still open with an error message about the font.
