Opening jpg attachments

I'm trying to email myself a 3.5MB jpg photo but when the touch's email app finishes downloading the file it just displays a question mark. I've try downsizing the photo but am still getting the question mark.
any ideas?
thx
lenn

Do i have to convert it to 640x480 before it can be shown on the touch?
Give it a try. The actual pixel size of the touch screen is something like 320x480

Anyway to open .jpg attachments in the Gmail on IPad 3?

winmail.dat files usually mean that the email has been sent in 'rich text format' - you could ask the person who sent it to you to send it a different format (e.g. plain text or HTML) or there are a few apps in the app store that support it (search the store for 'winmail.dat')

jpeg attachments won't open in email. Window opens asking what to do and what pgm to use but once selected it just saves it to my download file anyway. I've updated FF Options/Applications but it made no difference.

    Welcome to the discussions!
The fact that it worked, but it doesn't anymore means something has happened to interrupt this procedure.Remember if there was an update or something done that will explain it. As for the workaround I always saved as .RTF to avoid such troubles and it hasn't (yet) failed me.

  • How do I open jpg attachments on my iPad2?

I am getting email messages showing up with a paperclip in my "in" box, but there is no visible attachment to the message. How do I retrieve the jpg file and view it?

you shouldn't have to, it should appear in the body when you read the mail.
if not, scroll to the bottom of the mail in the body and it may appear as an attachment you can click/touch on to open.

  • Unable to open jpg images on iPhone 8.1 email

Since the 8.0 OS update, the email on my iPhone won't open jpg attachments.  Anyone have an answer for this problem?

Can you please share a sample file at the email address listed above? The desktop Reader is pretty forgiving and will often display PDF that is invalid. In general, our Mobile Reader is less lenient, though when we encounter files that the desktop product allows but we do not, we make an attempt to be similarly lenient. A sample file will help!

  • I can't open attachments on my iPad 2.  I have downloaded the 8.0.2 software update.  I can't open jpgs, PDFs, docs. or movie files now.

I can't open attachments on my iPad 2t and I can't open jpgs, PDFs, docs. or movie files now.

Obviously, you are talking about the mail app, so force close the mail app and reset your iPad. If that fails, reset all settings.
In order to close apps, you have to drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
When you reset all settings, you will not lose any data, but most of the device settings will have to be entered in the settings app again. Settings>General>Reset>Reset all Settings.

  • TB (currently v31.1.2) does not open certain attachments (e.g. jpg, pdf) properly.

I've been having trouble opening certain attachments, notably .pdf and .jpg. Example: today I wanted to open a .jpg attachment. I right-click on the attachment and select Open. I get about one-third of the picture okay and the rest is just a muddy grey colour. For both pdfs and jpgs the file also shows in the body of the message as a collection of weird characters at the end of the message underneath the name of the file.
[As an aside, I deal with this jpg problem by using my iPhone, opening the image, pasting it into the BODY of a new message, sending that message to my email address, opening that email in TB and then copy & paste to where I want it. I haven't yet found a way around the PDF problem except by opening and reading on my phone.]
From the support pages I'm guessing this is a problem associated with mimeTypes but that is a step too far for me :) I go to Tools>Options>Attachments but just see a box that shows me two tabs (Incoming and Outgoing). Under incoming, none of the entries mention .pdf or .jpg and there is no mechanism to add such an entry even if I knew what I was doing.
Any help/thoughts would be appreciated (running Windows 7 64 bit)

Thanks for this Matt and Toad Hall. It makes sense to me. I had to install a firewall on my machine (long story ... to do with a game I play and a new VOIP router) and later, but around the same time, installed an update from TB. It was after the update that the trouble started so I assumed it was a TB issue.
But although I can't check this, it is quite possible that I didn't receive any emails with PDF or JPG attachments between the time I installed the firewall and later installed the TB update and thus the problem caused by the firewall didn't show until after the update.
The firewall is part of the Outpost suite from Agnitum (recommended by my ISP) so it all seems to tie in with what you have said.
I have now attended to the issue with the firewall and it all seems to be okay.
    Many thanks

why can't open jpg or some attachments on macbook

Don't have a clue!  You did not provide any info other than you are using a MBP.
    Which OS are you using?
Please detail all you have done to resolve your issue.  Need this information so that the users can avoid the "been there, done that" scenario type responses.  This is to avoid repeating the troubleshooting you may have already tried.  Thank you.

  • Since upgrading to 8.0.2, I can't open mail attachments JPG

Why can't I open mail attachments photo.JPG, PDF...  I could before I updated to 8.0.2

Did you have Firefox 37.0 or 37.0.1 before you updated? The changes were very minor, so I think the problem is more along the lines of a glitch than a program change...
When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.
    (1) Bypass Firefox's Cache
Use Ctrl+Shift+r to reload the page fresh from the server.
Alternately, you also can clear Firefox's cache completely using:
"3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Options > Advanced
On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"
If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.
    (2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on the site, try either:
    * right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * (menu bar) Tools > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * click the padlock or globe icon in the address bar > More Information > "View Cookies"
In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.
Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

  • Can't Open jpg and other attachments

Since this new email took over, I cannot open jpg and some other files that are sent to me.  Word and pdf's are okay, but not photos that are attached.  A pop up says they were deleted.
This is just since the new mail version arrived.
How do I get my pics back?

...but if I go back to Classic View I can open the.
That's it for me....I'm sticking with Classic View....waste of programming effort on that new version.  I shouldn't be released unless it's 100% operable and thoroughly debugged.

  • IMac can no longer open .jpg .jpeg & other media files sent from PC?

I can no longer open .jpg photos & media files sent to my iMac from my wife's PC through Outlook email. I get an error message saying the item cannot be opened. All other recipients have no trouble opening these attachments. We have tried numerous fixes suggested by Apple chat sites but to no avail. I suspect an OS update around December 2010 has caused this problem on not just our machine but thousands of other iMac users & Apple is ignoring it. Why isn't Apple addressing this huge issue?

Likely, because there are millions of Mac users, and not everyone is experiencing this issue.   Until it happens to all Mac users with a specific system, it will be very difficult to isolate the cause.
You can sign up for a free online developer account:
    http://developer.apple.com/
And you can post here your bug report:

Attachments may need to be encoded a specific way with Outlook to be readable by Mac OS X Mail.
You can also try reading those messages with Thunderbird, or another Mac e-mail client.  To find other Mac e-mail clients, search the software search engines here*:

  • Can't open some attachments in Outlook 2000

I have Outlook 2000 (part of Office 2000 premium) installed in my Virtual XP . I can't open .jpg or .pdf attachments. (recent problem) I uninstalled Office 2000 Premium and reinstalled and installed Office 2000 SP3.
    Still can't open them.
    Please advise

    Hi,
Actually it is more likely an Office 2000 issue. First, I would like to know if you can open JPG or PDF file by saving them to Desktop from Outlook.
If they can be accessed on Desktop but not inside an email as attachments, it is an Outlook issue. Is there any error occurs when trying to open that attachment? Please let us know.
In-case it is actually being blocked, please try to change the security level per following article:
You may receive an "Outlook blocked access to the following potentially unsafe attachments" message in Outlook
    http://support2.microsoft.com/kb/829982/en-us
If they cannot be accessed on Desktop either, please make sure you have the proper application to access them such as Adobe Reader for PDF.

  • Can't open some attachments

I am not sure what is going on, but I can not open some attachment files either by quicklook or in iBooks. So far there are .doc and .pdf files that I just can not open. The .pdf gives me the option to open in iBooks, but when I hit the button...nothing. It does not open. That said, other .pdfs have worked, .dot and .xls have worked, .doc has not (not even an option to open in iBooks appears).
I have just completed a full factory restore (not from backup) and the problem persists. Any suggestions on how to view pdfs (even in quicklook again) would be appreciated.

  • Cannot open email attachments

I suddenly cannot open .jpg, .jpeg or .pdf attachments in my email. This problem is happening both on my iPad and my iPhone4.

If you go into Options | Advanced Options | Applications is the Attachment Service listed? If not when you reloaded the software you have to make sure that the Attachment Service is checked to be installed with the rest of the software

  • What program will open .JPG in email attachment

Searched the forum but couldn't find an answer.  I keep getting emails with .JPG attachments but it says that there is no program on the phone to open the attachment.  Went to the Play Store and tried a couple but they didn't work.  Probably something simple but I'm not seeing it.  Help!

I just double checked and I have received attachments from this same individual where it gives me the save or view option and I can open the picture attachments.  I'm begining to think it depends on what format or program he's using to take the picture. Even though both come  to me as JPGs, there might be a different format.  I'm gonna contact him and see what he's using.  Thanks for the resonses and if you think of something, please post.
