Opening Lightroom images in photoshop cs5 ACR

Is there any way to edit Lightroom 3.0 images in Photoshop Cs5 ACR? If I choose Edit in Photoshop the image goes directly to photoshop and bypasses ACR. I have tried creating an ACR option in Preferences but cant find the ACR file. Can anyone help?

No...and there is no reason to do so. Lightroom and Camera Raw share the exact same processing pipeline–assuming you are using the same rev version. The only way to take a raw image into Photoshop and use the Camera Raw dlog is to open as a Smart Object which will give you the SO version of Camera Raw inside the Photoshop document.

Try disabling OpenGL drawing in preferences.  If that works, it means you need to update your video card driver.
Also make sure you are running the latest version of Photoshop CS5 (12.0.1).

    Any ideas?

My student has been using Lightroom 4 with Photoshop CS5 on her Mac for well over a year. Because of the difference between the Camera raw version available to her in Photoshop CS5 and the raw process in Lightroom 4, she has been exporting her raw images from Lightroom and choosing the "Render using Lightroom option when it popped up in the dialogue box. She has been doing this for over a year and a half without any problem. Today when she hit Command E no dialogue box appeared and the image just opened in Photoshop. I'm concerned that all of her Lightroom edits are not being rendered to Photoshop. Anyone have an idea as to how we can get the "Render using Lightroom" dialogue back?

  • Photoshop Does Not Open Lightroom Image

Every few weeks, when I open Lightroom, I cannot edit my images in Photoshop.  I'll select Photo->Edit in->Edit in Adobe Photoshop CS5.  Photoshop then opens.  Instead of displaying the image I'd just been working on in Lightroom, Photoshop brings up the standard file "Open" dialog.  (I've learned that if I then try to open the image using this dialog, the TIFF file is not properly exported back to Lightroom.)  To the best of my knowledge, this does not happen if I tell LR to open the image in Photoshop CS4.  The only work-around I've found is to optimize the Lightroom catalog, shut down both LR and PS, and restart my Mac.  Sometimes it takes several tries -- eventually it will start working again.  Once I get the LR-PS linking re-established, it will continue to work properly for the remainder of my work session.
Details: I'm running Lightroom 3.3 and PS 12.0.2 x64 on a Mac Pro.  My Lightroom catalog has around 11,000 images in it at the present time.
Any suggestions would be appreeciated!  Thanks, Steve.

Thanks for your suggestions.  I just found an earlier thread that suggested deleting both the Photoshop and Lightroom preference files.  I will try that.  I'll also try to update my version of PS.  (I have the CS5 updater running -- I'm surprised I don't have the latest version.)
If those things don't work, I'll try reinstalling.  One of the frustrations with these intermittent problems is that you're never quite sure if you've fixed it.  I'll give your suggestions a shot, and then I just have to watch for a while and see if LR and PS will work together,

  • I cannot open files directly from Lightroom 4 into Photoshop CS5.

I recently changed to new Macbook Pro and uploaded my Lightroom 4 and Photoshop CS5.
Now when I go to 'Photo - Edit in - Photoshop' in Lightroom 4. Photoshop opens. But no image appears.
I've updated the Camera Raw reader but this hasn't helped.
Anyone got a suggestion that might help?
I have been making attempts to download updates for my Photoshop PS5 but after 4 attempts I get the same failed window asking me to try later.
    Anyone any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance.

It is important to understand how Lr works.
Lr displays photos only when they are imported into Lr. A (seeming) exception is for a Raw image that is edited in Photoshop and <Saved> to the default settings that you selected in external editing of Preferences in Lr. So if the default setting is for PSD and you just hit <Save> in Photoshop, a PSD will be created and automatically imported back into Lr so that it will be displayed there. So, this is not really an exception from the rule that an image has to be imported into Lr - it is an automatic import. This automatic import works only for the <Save> to the default settings;it does not work when you do a <Save As> and select a different file format than the default setting. In your case you did a <Save as> to create a JPG. This JPG will not be automatically imported into Lr, you have to import it manually - either through the Import Dialog or by <Synchronize Folder>.
Apart from that, and as JimHess said, why do you create a JPG in Photoshop from the same file? If you need a JPG, in Lr just export your PSD as a JPG when you need it.
I often need JPGs from my file, but I create them only when needed by exporting them to a folder of my choice. Usually I delete them after a while. I don't see a reason why I should have JPGs sitting around on my hard drive(s). They can be created again (from the Raw files or from PSD's/Tiffs) if the need arises.

  • Lightroom won't open an image in Photoshop CS2

I have Photoshop 1.1 on a PC running Windows XP. I can't open a Lightroom image in Photoshop CS2 through the "photo" menu because the menu selection to open an image in Photoshop is dimmed. Also in "Preferences" in the "external editors" tab it says "Photoshop not found." My Photoshop is on the same drive as Lightroom. Am I wrong in assuming LR should open an image in CS2?
In a related matter I opened a Photoshop customer support case about this, but did not receive a reply. Is this typical of Adobe? Isn't this the kind of question they should answer even without a paid support plan?

    Richard,
What I did when faced with a similar situation was to go to Control Panel, and select Add or Remove Programs, then select Uninstall or Change for Adobe Photoshop CS2, then when prompted whether to Uninstall or Repair, choose Repair. This will fixup all the registry entries that appare to be missing from your system.
    Works for me at least.

  • I can not open canon 60d raw images on photoshop CS5.1? can not go to updates either- error?

I can not open canon 60d raw images on photoshop CS5.1? the same program on stationary mac can open the same raw files, whereas new lap top can not? Why?  can not go to updates either- error, why?

Which version of mac os x does your new mac have?
What error do you get when going to Help>Updates in photoshop cs5.1?
You might try downloading and installing the 6.7 camera raw update from here:
Adobe - Photoshop : For Macintosh : Camera Raw 6.7 Update
If you need any other updates, you can find most of them here:

  • Bridge shows an image 72 ppi, but when I open the same image in Photoshop (CS5) it is showing 96 ppi???

Just reloaded Windows 7 last week, and reinstalled CS5.  I don't remember this happening before the reinstall. Is there a setting I am missing?
    Thanks in advance!

What this is telling you is the ppi value is missing from the metadata. Because it is in the metadata there is nothing to worry about. It can be added at any time with photoshop.
    1)Open the image in Photoshop
    2)Image>Image Size
    3)Type in the correct ppi
    4)click OK
5)Save file to disk File>Save or if you prefer to use another name to protect the original use File>Save As then type in a name and click OK.
The main information to protect is the pixel dimensions that pertains to the data it self. If these values change so does the data. To protect the pixel dimensions uncheck resample image if it is checked in the Image Size dialog box.

  • After CS6beta install, how to I tell CS5 bridge to open images in Photoshop CS5?

I am not ready to do all of my work in CS6 now, I am just trying to learn the interface.  But now I cannot opening anything through bridge or windows explorer using Photoshop CS5 at all.  The only way that I can open any image file in CS5 is to do it directly from Photoshop in the file open menu.  How can I set Bridge CS5 to at least have Photoshop CS5 as an option, if not the default?

Open Photoshop CS5, and launch Bridge from there (Ctrl Alt o) That will open Bridge CS5, and load images into Photoshop CS5.

  • Can I Extract a Frame from a Video (in Lightroom 3 or Photoshop CS5)?

I'm running Windows 7 and have Lightroom 3 and Photoshop CS5.  Extracting a frame from a .MOV file is way over my head, but I want to try.  Right now the file is in Lightroom, but the "Open in" options are grayed out.  I have exported the file to my desktop, and  I can play the video with Windows Media Player.  I bet somewhere, somehow there is a way to do what I want.  Any help, ideas or references would be much appreciated!

When you say "Extract a frame", do you mean saving one of the frames as an image from Photoshop?
    Here's what you can do:
    1. Open the video in Photoshop, File > Open, and choose the .mov file.
    2. Once the video opens in Photoshop, open the Animation panel, Window > Animation
    3. In the Animation panel move the playhead to the desired frame, and save it as an image, File > Save As.
    and Voila!
Any questions, just ask. I'll be more than happy to help.

  • Can't open raw images in Photoshop Elements 9

I've just finished doing a fresh install of Windows 7 x64 SP1 onto my desktop PC.  I installed Photoshop Elements 9 but it can't open any raw images (specifically Canon .CR2).  When I open one of the same images with Photoshop CS5.1, it properly opens up the image in Camera Raw (6.6), allows me to pre-process the image, then edits it in Photoshop (as you would expect).
Before installing Photoshop, I did manually install Adobe Camera Raw 6.2, then upgrade it (multiple steps) up to the current v6.6.
I also copied the Camera Raw.8bi into the Plug-Ins\File Formats sub-directory of both C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Elements 9 Organizer and C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Photoshop Elements 9 but there was no change of behavior with Photoshop Elements 9.
This was working prior to the re-install of Windows 7.
Any suggestions on how to get this working?  Thank you, in advance.

When I to to Help>Update, it offers to update Photoshop Elements to v9.0.3 but no mention is made of Camera Raw (any version).  I'm not even sure how to determine what version it thinks is installed since there's no reference to Adobe Camera Raw in the Windows 7 Programs and Feature Control Panel applet.
    Suggestions?

  • Can't Open Bridge Images in Photoshop

Upgraded Photoshop CS5 to CS6, Windows 7. Uninstalled CS5. Now can't open Bridge images in Photoshop.

    Thanks, problem solved!
The first thing I did was check the file associations which, indicating “Photoshop”, I assumed was OK.
But then, motivated by your suggestion, I checked more carefully and found that “Photoshop” was pointing to an earlier version.
Next I “browsed” and reset the association to the Photoshop CS6 .exe file and now images in Bridge open in Photoshop just like they used to.
