Opening links in gmail

Since upgrading, I cannot open buttons or links in gmail. I use safari. If I click the link, I have to force quit the application for safari web content.

Open "about:config"
Search for 'browser.tabs.loadDivertedInBackground'
Then Toggle the value to TRUE !

Opening Link in gMail

When clicking on a link in gMail, how can I make it open w/ Safari? Instead of it loading within the mail app.

If you are using the Gmail app, it is something they do so that things are not opened in Safari. They but their browser code into the mail app as well.

Firefox will not open links in gmail, but Internet Explorer will. Firefox is the default browser. The tab of the site it is trying to open reads: https:/w8mbn4 or https:/...urw8nbn4. No errors in the Error counsel are reported. Help!

I put in the WOT Addon, but Uninstalled it with not improvement.

I have exactly the same issue. After FF upgraded on its own to version 5, it won't open from start menu, taskbar, desktop icon, or even by pressing firefox.exe in program files directory. It does so by pressing a link at msn messenger, inside Outlook etc.
Disabling all addons, didn't help. Moreover, I can't start FF in safe mode or start profile manager (Start > Run> firefox.exe -ProfileManager).

Open youtube video link from gmail in new tab instead of same page?

Hi came back t fox after 3 years. Yesterday after 1,2 months of using a standard action was changed. I was in my gmail clicking on youtube notification to open video in next tab.
While it was late FF asked me would I like to stay on page or leave it - I chose stay. Now when I want to open video links from gmail it opens in current tab - I failed with research on my own, hence asking community.
btw browser.link.open_newwindow is set to 1.

For a laptop user it is essential to use only pad - for me late at night I would like to open youtube link in new window, one hand wihtout ctrl key, then double click to close tab not finding that tiny x.
This reminds me that problem comes from TAB UTILITIES addon -although I think mentioned notification is built in from gmail or fox.
Currently my about:config settings
browser.link.open_newwindow.override.external
browser.newtabpage.storageVersion
are set to 1
And it works as I wanted - so far.

When I open a link in gmail the website opens as a completely black page and when I click anywhere in the page the whole thing turns white and there is nothing showing. This does not happen when I open the same link in IE

Cmd + Click not opening links in background inside gmail

When I attempt to open links on background inside gmail the Cmd + click is not working. It opens the link in the foreground.
Though "Open Link in New Tab" in the right click context menu does open it in background.
I am using Firefox 4 on mac book pro running 10.6.7

There are 2 settings to check for email programs, one is the Windows default email program which you probably already have set to Outlook. The other is a Firefox setting that determines how it handles mailto links. The second one may be set to Gmail. For details see [[Changing the e-mail program used by Firefox]]

Firefox 5 doesnt seem to let me open mailto links in gmail. I am using a mac on snow leapord.

Further more I have gone into preferences and set to Mailto application to be gmail and it still dosen't work. Any suggestions.

I have the same problem with mailto links and Gmail. I have tested the specified link (https://mail.google.com/mail/?extsrc=mailto&url=%s) manually and it works fine. The same link invoked with FF5 fails and no error message is displayed. This was definitely working in previous version of FF. Don't know of anything else that has changed. 2nd, you already mentioned Virtual XP, so if a direct install doesn't work, that would be the way to go... or, to just do what SHOULD work from the start, just do Virtual XP

Links in gmail and other emails won't work, have to use IE or Crome whats the solution

My links in gmail as well as yahoo, only get a blank page - in the address bar it starts with https://mail.google.com/ = it ........it only brings me back to my inbox......... links works in IE as well as Chrome...

Links in gmail go to bad address

This started happening after I upgraded to 3.6.15 this week. I happens in Firefox but not in Google Chrome.
When I click on a link in gmail it goes to
https://mail.google.com/mail/?ui=2&view=bsp&ver=ohhl4rw8mbn4
A blank screen and the status says "done."
This happens with old emails that worked before my upgrade.
If I right-click and select "Open link in new window" it goes to the correct page.

I am having the same problem with my gmail - links in Yahoo mail work fine. If I right-click and choose 'open in a new window' the link works, but simply clicking on the link in the gmail takes me to the address:

In addition to clearing my cache and cookies, I also changed my Tools>Options settings to add an exception for pop-ups for http://mail.google.com. Just to be doubly sure, I also changed my installed plug-in "Adblock Plus" to allow pop-ups for http://mail.google.com. This did not correct the problem either.
In case you need to know, I'm using Windows XP Pro Version 2002, Service Pack 3, v.3264. I can still get to my links with the right-click menu, but learning a new habit can be quite annoying at first, and this problem only occurred this morning after installing the update to 3.6.16.

⌘-click to open link in new tab

In preferences, under tabs it says ⌘-click opens a link in a new tab and selects it. However, when doing exactly this, the link still opens in a new window. I am running Safari 2.0.4 (419.3). I have tabbed browsing enabled and open links is set to open in current window.

It works now, but not in Gmail. Could it be that a link inside of Gmail always opens a new window no matter what?! Seems strange that it would behave that way. I tried it however, and a link outside of Gmail opens in a new tab when I ⌘-click it, but inside of Gmail a link always opens in a new window.
What do you think?

Will not open link in new tabs, some of my add ons are not working properly

I am using Firefox 3.6.6
My add ons, such as Gmail Notifier and Forecast Fox are not showing up on the bottom, but they are all enabled and updated. Also, when right click and select Open Link in New Tab, it opens an Untitled tab.

The current version of Greasemonkey is compatible with Firefox 29. Could you check to make sure it is not turned off? There should be a "monkey" icon on the toolbar. Clicking that icon turns Greasemonkey on and off; the "off" state is designated by a faded icon, while the "on" state has a full-colored icon.
More generally, could you check for possible extension updates and disable unimportant extensions in case one of those conflicts with Firefox?
Open the Add-ons page using either:
* Ctrl+Shift+a
* "3-bar" menu button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons
In the left column, click Extensions. Then, look for the "gear" button above the list and choose Check for Updates.
I also suggest disabling any extensions you won't be using for the next 24 hours so that you can test whether that improves Firefox's functioning.
Usually a link will appear above at least one disabled extension to restart Firefox. You can complete your work on the tab and click one of the links as the last step.

One possible reason for hangs, especially where you eventually get a dialog indicating that a script is running slowly, is Flash. To minimize sites from using Flash unnecessarily, try setting Flash to Click-to-Play ("Ask to Activate"). This will delay Flash from starting on a page until you approve it.

I accidentally clicked "Block" while hovering over a link in Gmail and now I can't click the link. How do I unblock the link I accidentally blocked?

I was trying to click a link in Gmail, but the "Block" bubble popped up and I accidentally clicked the "Block" bubble instead of the link. Now I can't click the "Attach File" link in Gmail and I can't figure out how to unblock the link.

That sounds like an AdBlock Plus blockable element tab, right?
Try removing the ad blocking rule from Tools -> AdBlock Plus Preferences.
Find the rule that looks like Gmail ("My Ad Blocking Rules" should be at the top), select it and press the Del key or right click and choose Delete.

I can't access direct links from Gmail in Firefox.

My grand kids downloaded a bunch of games. When they left I notices I can't go directly from a link in Gmail through Firefox. This has affected both computers. I did a system restore, to before they came. Still no difference. The links work in IE.
