Opening links in tabs

Is there no way to set a preference so that clicking on a link on a webpage in Safari opens the linked page in a new tab instead of a new window without holding down the command key?

There is a program (free - full version) named SECRETS. There are many options that one needs to be familiar with before choosing (I strongly advise in doing researchbefore attempting to make changes within the settings that one is not familiar with.) This program has many features that allows a user to enable that one thought could not be possible otherwise.
Once you install the program, it will be located in the Preference Pane
Once in the program you will see a software column on the left hand side,
Select Safari and scroll down through the settings you may change (be sure what you are changing) and you will notice one the enables all new windows to be opened in tabs.
There you go.
For anyone not aware of this program, it is a very useful and excellent tool for customizing.

I have gone to Safari preferences and have made the selection in TABS to open links in TABS instead of Windows. I have chosen "Always".
The setting has not stuck. I tried logging out then logging back in however it still does not work. Am I missing something?

I did not have any extensions and reset Safari. I have the most update versions as per screenshot

Why doesn't command-click always open links new tabs?

Right-clicking on links and selecting "Open link in new tab" always works as described, but command-clicking on links only sometimes opens them in new tabs. I am guessing that it is Javascript related, but why can the contextual menu work, and not the click?

Open links in tabs

I know ther is a way to open link from an outside source (ichat, apple mail etc.) into a new tob in safari, but is there a way to open links from other websites in a new tab or are you just stuck with it opening in a new window unless you control click and select for it to open in a new tab?

This functionality (opening links in new tabs of windows in front of or behind the current one when the user holds a combination of cmnd, alt and shft) stopped working for me at some point during my use of Safari under Panther, and continues to be broken with Safari 2.x under Tiger.
If I login as another 'vanilla' user it works. So, I assume it is something I installed at some point in my account. The most likely culprit was Saft, but disabling that made no difference.
Is anyone aware what may cause this (very useful) functionality to break?

Flashes White Screen After Opening Link in Tabs from RSS Feed

Hi.
This is a weird glitch/bug that I'm trying to get to the bottom of. It happens very often, that when I open all of my feeds (they are all collected in one folder so I can view them at once) and choose to open a link from one of the feeds in a separate tab, the entire screen becomes white for a second or two before opening the link. I've been searching around and can't find anyone that has a similar problem or has documented it. I would greatly appreciate if I could fix this.

My new name is, www.tommurrayartist.com When this is typed in, it is redirected to my DotMac address. It was also masked so the tommurrayartist address shows in the address bar.
Apparently Safari can't handle this the way Camino can.
So I unchecked masking in my Godaddy account.
No more flashing with Safari.

Keep pausing , sometimes opening a new tab using a web link stay blank

the web browser pauses, becomes unresponsive and you cant do anything apart from closing it, when i right click open link in tab i the new tab stay blank.

I used to be able to open links in a new tab by clicking my middle mouse button, but now that I've updated it to the most recent update it doesn't work anymore. How do I fix this? I really love that feature. It works in IE and Chrome but not Mozilla.

Ok, I used to be able to open links up in a new Tab using my middle mouse button. However, I updated firefox with the automatic Updates on the 26th of October and now I no longer can open links with my middle mouse button. Why? I use this feature just about every time I go searching on the internet so I really would like it back. When clicking on links that open in a new window, the links don't open and Firefox freezes in a way. I can navigate the page I am on but cannot click to open a new tab or bookmark.

When navigating the internet, if I come across a web page that has a link to open a picture or program in a new window, if I click on it, it does not open. Firefox immediately looses functionality in that I cannot open a new tab with the mouse wheel, right click to open a new tab, or use my bookmarks in either the drop down or toolbar to navigate away. I can usually still navigate the page that I am on, for example, (https://loanconsolidation.ed.gov/AppEntry/apply-online/appindex.jsp), when it freezes I cannot click on any of the content at the center of the page but I can still use the links from the list on the far left. For an example of the pictures, (http://www.insect-sale.com/), if you click on "New Arrivals" at the top of the page it takes you to a list of products that can only be viewed by clicking on them. Usually a picture of the item would open in a small window but it does not and Firefox freezes. This has also happen when I try a view a degree audit on a school's website where a program would usually open in a new window. The only thing I have been able to find that still functions properly when this happens is the home page button. I can click on it or use the wheel to open it in a tab just fine, but if I try and go anywhere else I cannot. The only way I can get Firefox back to normal is to use the Task Manager and end the process. Another thing I have noticed, that may or may not be related; is that my Norton Internet Security toolbar, that should show up below the bookmarks toolbar and above the tabs, only shows up about 1 out of every 10 times I open Firefox. Some days it doesn't show up at all. If it does show up and I log into Identity Safe, the autofill for the programed website works, even if the toolbar doesn't show up the next time I open Firefox.

Go to Tools->Options->Apps
Here you should see two columns: Content Type on the left, Actions on the right.
Find and select excel spreadsheet or any other content type in the left column. There should be a corresponding action in the right column. What is it? You can use the drop-down list to select the option you want:

Save file - Firefox will save this file to your computer

Delete [http://kb.mozillazine.org/sessionstore.js sessionstore.js] and sessionstore.bak in the [http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox Profile Folder]
If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.
You will have to redo App Tabs and Tab Groups after deleting sessionstore.js.

Safari 6.0 crash when right clicking a link and choosing open in new tab

Hi all, just a general question. I admit i did not search the forums yet. Hopefully this little annoyance can be resolved.
When using safari on say CNN.COM i'll right click on a link and choose Open in new tab. safari randomly disappears. no crash warnings, just gone. I can open it right up and be fine sometimes all day. This has happened to me about 5x since ML was released (i wiped my laptop the day it came out)
This has happened on a couple of different website at different times of the day. only safari was running. No other apple apps have this issue.
I have a MacBook Pro from earily '08 type 4,1
i have only apple software on this machine
i do have adobe flash installed v11.3 updated today.
i do have lastpass enabled
i do have ad-block disabled
While i'm waiting for help from you guys i'll disable all addon's and try to remove adobe to see if that is the issue. Is there any other steps i can try like delete .plist file or maybe even trying a new user profile. I am a IT professional and am not afraid to get my hands dirty trying to get this resovlved.

I can't get Firefox to open a new tab each time I click on a link or favorite. It keeps loading onto the current tab.

I went to Tools>Options>Tabs and entered a check mark next to the first entry, "Open New Windows in a New Tab Instead" but it still does not open a new tab each time I click on a link or one of my favorites. It used to way back in earlier versions of Firefox but hasn't for the past few iterations...am I doing something wrong or do I need to activate something else within Firefox?

That option only controls pages that would open in a new window based on the code on the website page you are visiting.
Firefox's default is to open a link or a Bookmark in the currently selected tab.
You have some options to have links and/or Bookmarks open in a new tab:
*middle-click the link or Bookmark (middle-click = press the mouse scroll wheel)
*CTRL+left-click the link or Bookmark
*right-click the link or Bookmark and choose "Open in New Tab"

Can't access to several sites because when I click a link, or I insert login and password and clickto enter, it just open a new tab, either blank or the same as the previous. i.e., can't save my changes on FB, can't look for a location on googlemaps, etc.

I changed in about:config "network.protocol-handler.expose-all" setting it to "false" to allow me to use Sopcast player (which I added on "network.protocol-handler.app.sop"). But after that, every time I have to, i.e., look for a location on Googlemaps, when I entered it it just open a new tab with the same page I was in; every time I click on a link it doesn't redirect me, it open a new page; I can't save changes on Facebook because when I click on "save changes" it just open another FB home page in a new tab; same problem with opening my bank account, etc. Even here, I could not get in when I tried to login. Now I put back "true" on "network.protocol-handler.expose-all", but, of course, Sopcast doesn't work anymore. What can I do? I'm using Firefox 6.0.2 on Ubuntu 11.04. The Trubleshooting informations I attached here are those that gave me the problem, before I made the aforementioned changing going back to "true". Thank you

I think I may have found the problem. It's embarrassing to find it minutes after posting the message yet I tried to solve it off and on for three days! My brother who is a 20 year Mac user has been trying to help me too. I guess it's true what they say... sometimes it's better to be lucky than good. LOL
I turned off the parental controls. What I don't understand is that the no website restrictions box was checked. To me this means I should be able to go to any site I wanted. Can anyone explain why I couldn't got to a HTTPS page on a parental controlled account even though there were no restrictions placed on it?
It's late and I need sleep. I'll leave this open for now until I have more time to test it.

I am unable to open new tabs, in any way I attempt to do so. I have checked the settings and they are fine, so it's not those. The only way I can open a new tab is to right click on a link and instruct it to open in a new tab.

Any way I attempt to open new tabs, be it clicking on the new tab button or using the short-cut Ctrl-t, I am unable to open any new tabs on my browser window.
The only way I have found that I can open a new tab is to right-click on a link and instruct that link to open in a new window.

Try disabling the Ask Toolbar extension.

Opening link in a new tab disables back navigation to the first page

If I am on page A (for an example, let's say it is www.yahoo.com) and I chose a link on that page and by right-clicking open pop-up menu and choose '''Open Link in New Tab''', the page B (let's say finance.yahoo.com) opens in a new tab. Now, if I click on any link on this page B to be opened in the same tab the page (we will call it C) opens, but all options to navigate back ('''Go Back One Page''' browser button, Alt-Left Arrow, '''Back''' option on pop-up menu) appear disabled. However, if I continue to navigate from page C in the same tab to let's say page D, and from there to pages E and F, I can go back all the way to page C, but no further. It looks like for some reason the opening link in a new tab fails to put it in that tab navigation history.
I am running Firefox 4.01. It happens only on my office computer and not on any other computers I use. I had this problem before on the same office computer with Firefox 3.6. I could not get rid of it. Only after I uninstalled 3.6, cleaned all remnants of it and installed 4.0 – the problem went away. I updated to 4.01 and it worked fine for a while. But recently (I don't know what triggered it) the problem came back.

How do I stop Firefox from opening a new tab when I click a link or navigation button (such as "home") instead of redirecting using the currently open tab?

Any time I click on a link within a page, such as the "home" link in Facebook, or the various links on the Mozilla page that I needed to follow to get to this screen, Firefox opens a new tab instead of redirecting using the tab I'm on. Also, Firefox doesn't go to the new tab, it just opens it. So if I want to actually go to the page I've just clicked on, I have to then also find and click on the new tab that just opened.
