Opening Logic 5 songs

Is it possible to open Logic 5 songs in Logic Express 8? They aren't enabled in the "open" dialog and dragging them onto the Logic Express icon in the dock doesn't work.
Thanks!

OK, I figured that one out - I had to download the 8.0.1 update. Apparently I bought a beta version of Logic (thanks Apple). Now if it would just recognize all of my existing AU plugins, maybe I could use the @#$%^ thing.

  • Error in opening logic song files

I`ve recorded audio files into song folder and have problems reopening the logic song folder -keep getting error window saying it does not recognise the file type .this is very frustrating.occasionally it will open up . I`m trying from within logic folder.the audio files didn`t have a record path selected at the original recording session would this have made a difference to the retrieval of these simple one audio track songs? thanks if anyone can shed light on this.

How to instruct Thunderbird to use Adobe Reader to open .pdf files.
Right click on the attachment and choose 'open'
    a new window opens
choose 'Open with' and select 'Adobe Reader' from the drop down list.
select to 'Do this automatically for files like this from now on'
    click on OK
This will now show up here:
Tools > Options > Attachments > Incoming tab
    or
    3bar menu icon > Options > Options > Attachments > Incoming tab
under content Type it will show 'adobe acrobat document (.pdf)
and to the right it should show the 'Action' to use adobe reader.
If you want Thunderbird to always ask where to save files, you can select this option or choose where to save files to and use Browse button to locate a folder.
    click on OK

  • Cannot open logic song on intel mac

I have a problem with a logic song using logic 7.2.3 on a ppc g5 and a macbook pro.
Using the g5 I can open the song but trying the same with the intel macbook pro (also with 7.2.3.) I receive the message that the song is defect, the dialog offers to repair the song but this doesnt succeed.
It tried already to save a new project of the song but the same happens again.
Any advice would be great otherwise I will have to rebuild the whole song. Thanks in advance...

What you can try is get yourself a copy of Logic 6 (if you don't have it, look here : http://download.info.apple.com/AppleSupportArea/emagic/ ) and then open the song in L6 on your G5. Then save it again, from L6, and try to open the resulting file again on the intel mac.
If this fails, you can also try to use Logic 6 on your MBP and see if that works 'directly'.
    Good luck !

  • Opening logic pro songs in logic express

    both versions running 7.2
logic express said "file either damaged or not logic express song"
is there a way around this, like saving in a different format or something?
    Thanks!

I'll take a crack at it.
I'm not 100% certain, but I don't think that LE can open LP song files. If I'm right, then the only thing to do would be to bounce each track and import them into an LE project....but why would you want to drive a VW Beetle when you have a Porsche 911?

  • Plug-ins not available when opening Garageband song with Logic-Pro 7.0.1

    Can anyone help?
Whilst on the move recently I found myself composing a piece using Garageband. However when I got back to the studio and attempted to open the song using Logic Pro 7.0.1 I get:
Core Audio: Plug-in "BassAmpSi" not available! then
Core Audio: Plug-in "Hybrid Bas" not available!
As these must be Garageband instruments I don't understand why they're "not available" or what to do to make them available.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks everybody!

I googled this topic and found a Logic forum - they said you should update your software to 7.1, then the problem vanishes.

  • Help - Opening Logic 3.5 song in Logic Pro

    Hello
I am desperately needing to open a Logic 3.5 song in Logic 9. Does anyone run Logic 5 or earlier who can do me a quick transfer, or even export a midi file?
    Looking forward to your reply
    George

You'll need to open the song in at least Logic 5 or maybe earlier. This may require a Panther or OS9 computer. I would try installing the earliest version your computer will install. I have been able to install all previous version that I have tried but I haven't done that since going Intel.

  • Logic Pro 9 is suddenly crashing on opening any song! Help!

Logic is - literally out of the blue -  crashing on opening songs that I've been working on daily for the last 3 months. Ive downloaded nothing and installed no upgrades and yet it hangs on opening every song, always on a different plug in, during the plug in verification...... sometimes it hangs when verifying the basic Logic 'chorus' plugin, and other times third party plug ins like Waves stuff.... Ive no idea how to resolve this, but I can open about 3 of the 13 tunes I have on the go. Any help REALLY appreciated.

Yup - exact same thing happened to me.
I was migrating from an older Mac Pro (2006, 1,1) running Snow Leopard to a brand new Mac Pro running Lion.
I was having weird 'insufficient access" errors, even after repairing and fixing all permissions.  An Apple Support doc recommended trashing and reinstalling the prokit.framework.   But after trashing it, the OS would not let me install the new one, saying "a newer version is already on your system".    THe OS seemed to think I had a newer version even though I'd trashed it, and programs (Logic, iPhoto, Final Cut) would crash immediately on startup, saying the framework file was not found.
Grr.    Calls to Apple Support proved fruitless.  The OS support guys tried hard but were baffled and sent me over to Logic support guys who were not only clueless but arrogant -- they insisted my hard drive was faulty even though it worked with every program except Logic and passed every diagnostic test.
I tried reinstalling Logic Pro from original disks.  No fix.   I tried the OS 10.7.4 combo updater reinstall.  No fix.
My fix was to copy the prokit.framework file from my old Snow Leopard machine onto the new machine.   At least now I'm able to run Logic but only in 64 bit mode.   Attempting to run 32 bit causes an immediate crash on startup.  This ***** coz as we all know Logic only scans certain plugins when in 32 bit mode.   Also, since Logic "Pro" STILL can't export audio to quicktime movies in 64 bit mode,  I have to use iMovie to submit my work...
I'm still hoping there's an answer for this one.   I'll be installing Mountain Lion soon and MAYBE that will do it -- but I don't dare attempt it while I'm still in the middle of projects that are currently running shakily, but at least they're running.
I'm at least a little heartened to see that I'm not the only one stuck in this bind.

  • Error message when I open Logic Express 7

    Hi!
When I opened Logic Express 7 today, I got an error message, telling me that Logic had problem with the file com.apple.logic.express.cs.
I then searced the net and found out that the problem could be solved if I deleted that file, so I tried that (I didn´t deleted it, but just removed it to the trash, so I could replace it back if Logic wasn´t fixed with the file removed). And Logic was still not working. No sound when I tried to play back my songs or when I tried to play with the audio instruments. So now I have just replaced back the com.apple.logic.express.cs file, since that did not seemed to be the problem.
I also tried to remove the com.apple.logic.SetUpAssistant.standard.plst file, but that did not seem to help either.
Have anyone here experienced the same problem?
PS. Why is the solution to remove those files to get it work, when they are ment to be there in the first place?

    Hi!
    Thank you for the answer!
Will all the songs I have made in Logic be safe and still be 100 % as before if I reinstall Logic?

  • Can I open Logic 9 projects in earlier versions of Logic?

I will be using a Logic Express project between two Macs. One Mac will have Logic 9, and one with Logic 8. Will the same project be able work between the two versions without any hassle?
    Thanks!

In the past Logic has not allowed older versions to open newer versions.
It has only allowed (crappily at that) for us to open old Logic songs using newer Logic versions.
I still have my Logic 4.8.1 for PC in storage, just in case I need it.
Apparently Logic 8 does not open REALLY old Logic files. So much for "backwards compatibility"
The competition, PT, allows for version 7 software to open version 8 session files.
So it can be done. Just not with Logic...

  • Can't open Logic files

I am unable to open songs I created in earlier versions of Logic [eg. Logic Platinum] in Logic Pro 8.0.2. Apple claim in the Logic Pro 8 manual that this version of Logic will open songs created with older versions. When I try to open these songs I get an alert message saying the file is incompatible with Logic 8 and to load the song first into Logic Pro 7.2.1 or earlier and to save it in Logic 8 from there. Although I still have a copy of Logic Pro 7, I am reluctant to remove Logic Pro 8 and to reload Logic 7 on my computer in order to open these songs. If that's what I have to do then fine, but please can anyone advise me if there's an easier way! I run a 2.16 GHz Intel Core Duo Macbook Pro running OS X 10.4.11.
    Many thanks,
    Steve

You need to open the projects in LP7 and save else they won't open in LP8.

You don't have to remove Logic Pro 8 to run Logic Pro 7...is it installed on your system? If yes...the only thing you need is your XSKey

  • Logic song quitting unexpectedly

Hi, I've worked on a song for days with no problem. Now suddenly tonight, Logic quits unexpectedly every time I open this song or its backup.
(Logic starts up, the EXS samples load, the arrange window appears with the "reading project manager" message, & it quits before I can play or do anything.)
    Other Logic songs open fine.
This song has several EXS24 and Quicktime instruments; it's just midi sequences, no audio tracks.
I've repaired permissions, and reset Logic preferences except key commands.
    What else should I try?
    thanks.
    1.33 GHz G4 Powerbook   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   768 MB RAM, Logic Pro 7.1.1

It opens when I hold down the CTRL key, but since it didn't boot up Core Audio, I have no sound and the next time I open Logic Pro, it has the same prolem and didn't launch.
One thing that could be worth to mention: After a few times I retried to launch it, it pops up an error that my Kontakt serial number is not correct that I need to register Kontakt using Kontakt Registration Tool. I already registered it before and now when I tried to open registration tool, it also tells me that I already completed my authorization. Also in the report it seems that Kontakt got listed in the list for quite long. Any suggestions PLEASE!!!!!

  • Opening logic and volumes

Hey guys, How can I set logic to open with no song, I dont wanna open logic everytime and have a template empty. I want logic to ask me which song I wanna work with.
Also, most of the time I open logic, even with an empty song the volumes are all the way down. Sometimes I need to re mix a song because of this. I starting to close the song on bar 1 and also in an empty channel but still sometimes do that.
    Any help?
    cheers

Alternatively, this section of the manual covers these issues:
    _Opening and Creating Projects Automatically_
You can configure Logic Pro to open or create projects automatically—on startup—by choosing a startup action in the +Logic Pro > Preferences > Global > Project Handling+ tab.
    • Do Nothing: As the name suggests, this does nothing. Logic Pro is opened and requires you to create a new project, or open an existing project or template.
    • Open Most Recent Project: Automatically opens the project you were working on when you last quit Logic Pro.
    • Open Existing Project: Automatically shows the Open dialog, allowing you to browse for an existing project.
    • Create New Project from Template: Automatically opens the Templates dialog.
    • Create New Empty Project: Automatically loads an empty project and opens the Save As dialog, allowing you to name and save your project.
    • Create New Project using Default Template: Automatically opens the default template, and launches the Save As dialog, allowing you to name and save your project.
    +To determine the default template:+
1 • Click the Choose button below the Default Template field in the Project Handling preferences tab.
2 • Browse to, and choose, the desired template (or project).
The full path and name of the chosen template or project is displayed in the Default Template field. You can assign any template or project as the default template.

  • 8 bit / corrupted audio files on re-opening a song

See the post below. I'm having this exact problem with the latest version of Logic Pro on my intel mac. Is there a solution for this mentioned somewhere already? Please let me know soon.

"8-bit" Corrupted Audio Files On Reload?
    Posted: Aug 18, 2005 10:45 AM
A day after a recording session with my band the other night, I re-opened the song and recieved an error message "What kind of file is this?" and then another... something about the file being "8-bit" and unusable. This is the bass track from a very good session with my band and I'd like to try and recover it. Does anyone know how this happened, how to recover the file, and how to prevent it from happening in the future? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
More info: When opening the file in SoundHack, it says that it is a "Headerless" file. Setting the header to 24 bit linear and saving a copy results in an extremely distorted and unusable file, but you can kind of hear the recording in the background... sped up.

Hello and thanks to all for your replies. Oh and I did in fact copy somebody else's post. Sorry for the confusion.
I had a backup of the song on another disk with which I continued with my mixing. I am not worried about that particular song now. I am just worried that this might happen again.
About my sound/sample library, I just deleted the folders which had corrupted files and copied back from my backup disks.
Dropping corrupted file in a new .lso doesn't work. Haven't tried moving preferences yet but will do. I didn't have a mac before I bought an intel mac.
Can someone explain why this happened in the newest version when this was supposed to have been resolved in an earlier version? Isn't the latest version a cumulative one?
There's one other thing that also happened with me this week. I think it's related:
I had a Logic project open which was set at 96/24 and I had some audio done in it. I tried to open Reason rewired to Logic because I wanted a drum beat from Dr.Rex. Reason was set at 44/16. I tried to open some of the samples from my sound library. The files played just fine but later on when I checked, the folders which I went into looking for that drum beat got corrupted. In fact, it corrupted everything under root folder. It shouldn't have touched my samples at all, right? Why should this happen when I'm trying to just read samples or files?

  • Plug-in Problem After Loading Old Logic Songs

I am a recent mac convert (from logic 5.5 on a PC) and have upgraded to Logic 8. The trouble I'm having is that when I load an L5.5 song into L8 the plugins I used have lines through them (not available?) even though they are installed. Kontakt 2, Korg legacy and V-station all do it...
    Any ideas??

    That happens.
    There's no workaround.
    Here's why:
Your old plug ins a nothing like the new plugins. The name might be the same, but the actual software code is WAY different.
Also, oyu are on an Intel Chip mac, which is more troublesome with opening older songs, as they were made on a PPC chipset machine.
My take on this, is that if you have such old songs... it's best to start the mix fresh. You'll probably make a better mix, and spend LESS time getting this to "work".
    Cheers

  • Opening Logic files

After starting Logic(pro 7.2)When I try to open a file by using the file>open>choose method the window shows a list of modification dates in the left column. If I try to browse in this window the only thing that changes is the modifcation dates.I am then stuck in this window and the only way out is to force quit Logic.I have no problem opening a file using finder or opening a song directly from the HD.I have been using Martin Sitters book as well as the manuals without any major problems but can't seem to find a way around this.Does anyone have a fix for this. Thx

this is the correct procedure, as stated make SURE they all start from '0' and that you have the correct tempo entered in protools, and not JUST in the transport bar, but in the main tempo track itself.
also, im assuming you know the limitations of PT LE's beat detective (only one stereo or mono track at a time) unless you have the Music Prod or the Complete Production Toolkit. but there are workarounds to make it work, youll have to check the Digi user confrence boards for that. the to go back to logic you just consolidate the files starting at '0' and export them out.
