Opening logic pro songs in logic express

both versions running 7.2
logic express said "file either damaged or not logic express song"
is there a way around this, like saving in a different format or something?
Thanks!

I'll take a crack at it.
I'm not 100% certain, but I don't think that LE can open LP song files. If I'm right, then the only thing to do would be to bounce each track and import them into an LE project....but why would you want to drive a VW Beetle when you have a Porsche 911?

  • How to backup Logic Pro songs on external harddrive?

In case of an earthquake or other event that ends up completely ruining my computer and kills Logic Pro, how do I make a backup of the songs I've made on an external harddrive? (Sorry this question may be extremely easy to answer, but I'm new at external harddrives.)
I've bought a portable USC Drive with 120GB. Do I just need to make a copy of the Logic Pro song files and transfer them to this portable drive? Or do I need to load more information about Logic Pro onto it as well? And does my XS key have any involvement in case the my compuer is ruined and I need to extract the song from this portable drive?
    Thanks for any answers!

if ur logic project are not messy u just copy the folder where are all ur logic project to ur external hardrive that's it.the logic key just need to be plug when u launch logic, otherwize the project itself can be place and copy without any problem.now take care if u use some midiinstrument (like exs)that use sample, ucould also copy the exs library in ur external hd.depend if u use the factory sample it's not a problem,as far as u crash ur mac u'll find it back on ur dvd installer, otherwize u can find the exs folder there:
library/application support/logic/ then u v got sampler instrument and exs factory sample .u can both copy it in ur external hd.
that's the quicker way (for me as im organize).
now if u don't have 200 project and u wanna be sure to get everything backing up ,just open each project and save each one as project:
    file/save as project.
u click on copy all ,u choose ur external hd as the location and u click save.then it will pick up all the file u use (active or inactive) in ur arrangement and will copy it where u want..
    hope it's clear.not sure

  • Logic Pro 7 vs Logic Express whats the difference

    please explain it to me......

    Hi,
Another difference between Logic Express and Logic Pro is that Logic Express
does not allow multiple tracks within the Arrange Window to be armed for
    recording.
So, when I use my external notation program sending live MIDI data to
Logic Express (my notation program does not know how to save the music
as a MIDI file), I click on the lane within the arrange window, and only that
lane can record incoming MIDI. If I have 5 staves in my external notation
program, I mute 4 of them, as I only want one staff recorded at a time (such
    as for Violins I).
Here is another related question. If I upgrade to Logic Pro, could I play
my external notation program and send MIDI live to the slaved Logic Pro
such that Logic not only records on 5 lanes simultaneously, but also
knows to attach MIDI channel 1 data to a particular lane only (Violins I)
and MIDI channel 2 data to a different lane (Violins II), and so forth.
In this way, I can work in my external notation program which is very
flexible and great for creating music during the compositional process,
and occasional, play the song into logic, and then use Apple's orchestra
sounds (using the bounce feature as I am CPU limited with a G4) to create a better realization of what the music might actually sound like.
    Thanks,
    Sys6

As an overworked professional, I simply have to consider the very viable options out there. Never thought I'd be seriously considering a Cubase product.
It's a Steinberg product, not a Cubase product.. in case you haven't been paying attention Steinberg developed the virtual instrument for use in it's programs way back in Cubase 3.55.. the plethora of virtual instruments and the advent of low-latency drivers can be directly traced to Steinberg/Cubase development.. Logic also borrowed Cubase's arrange page format back in the 1980's. Cubase has borrowed from Logic to be sure but Steinberg has long been an innovator for many of the things we take for granted today. It was Logic/Emagic who licensed the VST technology and ASIO low latency format to use in Logic 4.xx. It was Apple who adapted VST to it's own AU format. Also, Cubase and Nuendo have undergone a lot more innovation over the past three years, Yamaha has been good as a parent company. Cubase is not Nuendo's little brother by the way, they are very close, same exact audio engine, same robustness, they can exchange files, the only difference being Cubase doesn't have some of the high end post features that Nuendo has. I use both Cubase and Logic and occasionally Nuendo at the University here.. I know both programs fairly well, believe me, both Cubase 6 and 7 can hold their own with any DAW out there, they just don't come with a bunch of ready made loops and preset instruments.
LogicX will never be able to use 32-bit instruments without a third party solution, nor will it ever include the Bridge. At least according to the people I know.

  • Can i upgrade from Logic PRO 7 to Logic express 9 (upgrade version)?

    Hello
I was about to upgrade from Logic Pro 7 to Logic Studio 9 when i noticed that all the fetures i need are actually now in cheaper Logic Express 9.
So would it be possible to upgrade to Logic Express 9 from Logic Pro 7? or will it only upgrade from older versions of Logic Express?
    Many thanks
    Tom

    Hi,
guess that's not possible. But i strongly recommend upgrading your Logic Pro 7 to Logic Studio. It's not that much more money, but i bet once you have the new Express version, you'll desperately miss some of the features you only have with Logic Pro/Studio.
I would recommend to call apple support or ask a dealer to find the correct upgrade version.

  • Logic Pro 7 to Logic Studio 8 transition good or bad?

    Hi all,
Just wondering what you have experienced going from Logic Pro 7 to Logic Studio 8?. I'm asking as I just bought the upgrade to Logic Studio and want to install it. I'm currently right in the middle of making an album in Logic Pro 7 and can't afford to lose anything. Is there anything I should be aware of? I haven't got any 3rd party plug in's running accept my Melotron plug in 'M'Tron'. Everything else including all FX's, I'm using Logic's built in plug in's. Also, I'm running Pro at full power with some songs and it still struggles at times. I'm using a Power Mac G5 dual 1.8ghz for the record. It's pre-Pentium dual core! Just worried about how well Studio 8 will run on my machine compared to Pro 7? Will Studio 8 require a lot more CPU usage?
    Many thanks,
    Nick.

Yes, me too. But after a week of testing L8, I've taken the plunge as I already like it better, although I had planned to complete all existing projects in LP7 first.
    1) Make extensive backups of everything, including all project assets, IRs, samples etc. which should all be in your existing project folders, before you install L8.
    2) Open copies of your projects and save them immediately in L8. As you probably know, installing L8 leaves LP7 untouched, so you can always go back if disaster strikes. I did some reconfiguring of stuff (not that you have to) such as changing old bus objects to auxes etc. just to make it more L8-like, reworking screensets etc.

Actually, I've found that in general projects run more smoothly. I've had some weighty projects that were puffing a bit in LP7 which run much better in L8. Other threads in this forum contradict this, so either I'm lucky or because I keep my production machine very clean I didn't get any problems.
    Good luck.

The installer for Logic Pro 8 has a bug which keeps it from operating in Lion or Mt. Lion.  Use the program Pacifist to install it.

I have checked both the resource folders, and made backups from Logic pro 9, but its not recognizing them, or saying that they're missing a bunch of samples.
    What do i do?

  • Can you run Logic Pro 8 and Logic Pro X on the same machine?

    Hello all!
Congratulations to us on the release of the new Logic Pro!
I am still running Logic Pro 8 (and was waiting for X to come out since I knew it wasn't too far off) but am concerned over the loss of 32-bit plug-ins with Logic Pro X (the wrapping of my old VST plug-ins alone hurts!).  I've heard that installing Logic Pro X doesn't in any way gimp Logic Pro 9's usage, but can someone confirm whether or not Logic Pro X and Logic Pro 8 can operate in harmony on the same Mac?
As a bonus, is there any reason to believe that Apple would disable earlier versions of Logic Pro (such as version 8) from running on Mavericks?
I am planning my Logic Pro and Mac OS migrations!  Thanks!!

  • Learning Logic Pro 9 - Exploring Logic Pro (Tutorial/Manual)

Logic Pro 9 - Exploring Logic Pro (Tutorial/Manual)
I worked the tutorial through to page 73. While I was working I realized that "Chuck Vox Alt " is the second take in the printed book but in "Exploring Logic Pro Demo Project" ("The Numbers Game") on the screen it is take one (so it is above and not below take 2). And  "Chuck Vox TNG" (take 2) is named "Chuck Vox 2" (take 1) in the book! Because of this I can't do the second section of page 73 ("Edit the comp")!
I'm stuck here. Please help me!
    Thank you!

Thanks for your answer. Sorry I'm still a beginner with Logic.
I've not spent much time yet - just read the tutorial until p. 73. This is how it looks:
I can't test it out on another sound recording because I don't have another one yet.
How can I create or import one? Thanks again!

  • Opening a Logic Pro file in Logic Express

Hi my Nephew is thinking of buying Logic Express (He can't afford Logic Pro) so we can collaborate together on some toonz. Now if I send him a song I have created in Logic Pro will it be OK for him to open in Logic Express to work on that song?
What will have happened to all the parts that I have created on the instruments in Logic Pro which are not available in Logic Express? would it just be MIDI notes/ data? and vice versa.
    Many Thanks

    Hi there...
When i'm in the studio I work with LP7, but on the road (and its more often then not) I use LE7. This 12" powerbook 1.5gz w/ 1.25mb 80hd has the FULL LP7 install and the FULL LE7 install, as well as lots of Garageband loops, and most free, AUs.
In Express (with a LP7 install, on the same machine) the ONE thing that is poor, is opening a LP7 project that leverages PLUGS for LP7. But that's ok as Sculpture and all those other goodies are too cpu hungry for a single G4 (IMHO).
So you will not get those working, BUT, with a real LP7 install the EXSp24 can OPEN the instruments from the much much larger library of material inside LE7. It's kind of like Logic Express-PRO...sounds strange i know.
Oh, and don't forget that LE7 need to really be the 7.1.1 version as that one adds the HybredMorph inst from GB. Keep your bus counts down and no auxs in the LP7 sessions if you KNOW a LE7 users will pop them open
    YMMV... but Good luck.

  • Live Logic Pro songs

I've made a few songs using the Logic Pro software. I was curious if anyone has ever played their created project/songs live somehow.
I'm still new to the whole idea and I'm not sure if it's really possible, or maybe I don't have the right software. I came across MainStage, but I'm not sure if thats going to do what I want.
So, what do you guys use to play the songs you've created in Logic Pro, live to an audience?

Another thing - if I copy one of the tracks to another track, then the sample editor works on the copied track.  I don't want to have to copy 16 tracks to new tracks to be able to use the sample editor on a project.  Thanks again.

  • Is there an upgrade path from Logic Pro 9 to Logic Pro X?

I convinced a friend to purchase Logic Pro 9, not knowing version X was about to be released 3 weeks later.   Even though upgrade path always crosses my mind prior to a software purchase, I was not worried - this was Apple.  Now it's looking like there's not a built-in upgrade path at all (as there IS with just about every other software company I have bought from).  Is this for real?  This friend has version 9, and I have version X.  So this friend learned everything there is to know about version 9, then I bought version X not even knowing we were out of synch on versions.   We were hoping to work on songwriting together, but paying $200 again is out of the question.  I notice that the file save under version X has extension .logicx, so is it even possible to exchange files?

my friend with Logic Pro 9 can send files to me but they cannot accept files created with Logic Pro X.
Which is exactly what i said earlier....
You can open Logic Pro 9 projects in LPX but not the other way around.
Apple wouldn't even give me a refund on Logic Pro X (purchased just 3 days ago), which is useless to me now.
There are no refunds from the App Store... That is what you agreed to when you purchased a license for LPX.
Your choice is simply for your friend to update to Logic Pro X or use the audio stem process I outlined earlier (Not something i would recommend doing for any period of time)... or spend even more money on purchasing two copies of a different DAW...  and taking the time to learn them and spending time converting over what your friend has already created... and hope your friend hasn't been using the internal plugins found only in Logic Pro... otherwise you have even more work to do...
The reality is, the sensible solution is simply to upgrade LP9 to LPX for $200... (and think of it as the upgrade price even though you can buy the full version for the same amount but that really doesn't matter does it?) Less outlay, less time lost and less hassle, but as always the choice is yours...
I have never, EVER, encountered a software company that treated customers that way.
Then you haven't been in the computer business that long......
Seriously though, you haven't been treated that badly...
You bought LPX at a price that is basically a steal.... and your friend bought LP9 at the same 'deal' of a price.. compared to what Logic Pro used to cost ($1000)
You can 'upgrade' from LP9 to LPX for $200 which is much cheaper than it used to cost to upgrade from , say LP8 to LP9... and the same price as it cost to upgrade to LP9 via the App Storeprior to the release of LPX
The alternatives at this stage would cost you much more money......time.. and hassle..
The only things that truly frustrating is the timing of your friend's purchase of LP9... For that he has my sympathies but it happens... Some people who bought Logic Pro 9 within a month of Logic Pro X being released were given refunds on the LP9 purchase if they bought LPX... Your friend just left it way too late.... Apple has since stopped such refunds.... and you didn't do the research you should have done before you jumped in and bought LPX... Unfortunate but sadly true.
Again, you and your friend have my sympathies for whatever they are worth... but at least the obvious solution is still cheap compared to what the alternatives could cost you now and in the past!
