Opening Logic RPC 5.1 projects in Logic Express 8

i am helping a client convert from Logic RPC 5.1 on a PC to Logic express on a mac pro.
any suggestions on making the transition smooth? i've been able to open some files up, and search for the audio files, etc. but i haven't been able to get any sound out of the project yet. it changes the audio driver to core audio etc....
anyways any suggestions are greatly appreciated

I've tried that but it still crashes on loading. It seems that once the bug is in there one can't get rid of it...
I'm getting a few odd messages when trying to open the file in v9.02 OS 10.5.7 on PPC.
One is "Set Cycle Pre Processing to 1/96" or "Disable MIDI Clock" or "Leave".
The other ones are search for missing audio files... four to be exact.
Two of them are labeled:
DAE 6#01.wav
DAE 7#01.wav
Are these part of your project?

Opening various tracks from various GB projects into Logic rop

Hi. I am having some difficulty. I have a song I have been working on in GB. I have been experimenting with different sounds and therefore have 3 different GB projects on it. I would like to take individual/different tracks from those 3 GBs and put them all in 1 Logic.
Do I have to export/bounce each one through Itunes?, but that permanently embeds my effects. I would like to be able to still tweak all the tracks some more once they are in logic.
basically, how do I open individual gb "tracks" not projects, into Logic? thanks.

just basically wondering if there is any way to select individual tracks within a GB project and move/drag/copy/paste/export/import etc. them into logic, while keeping all of their settings intact so they can be further worked on in Logic.
I know some roundabout ways but it will take forever. I have probably 100 tracks mixed up among 3 different GB projects (like 20 or 30 track in each project) and I need to get them into 1 Logic project. I know how to find the raw files, but then I will have to manually add all of my effects (many are customized) again and that could take some time, because I will have to create all my custom effects in logic. I would have to go into GB and right down all of my moves and the details of the customized effect and then make an replica of it in Logic....sheww....that could take a long time. i have tons of effects....

Opening Garageband Project In Logic Express

I have successfully opened / saved a garageband project in Logic Express and everything seems to have come over fine. In the arrange window, the 'Input' button is highlighted on many tracks (the button next to mute, solo, etc.). Should the 'Input' be selected or de-slected? It seems like its automatically sending it to a Bus. Any suggestions / basic ground rules?

Well, the Input monitoring button activated live input monitoring. So, if it is activated (and you have selected input monitoring in the preferences, of course), Logic will pick up any audio signal coming in via the selected inputs and feeds it into the channelstrip, even if it's not running. You can also play along without recording. Recording, however, activates monitoring either way.
Maybe you have an open mic, which might produce feedback or other disturbing noises. Turn off input monitoring (and disarm record, of course) to mute the live input monitoring.
Basically, only the channels you need to hear should have Input monitoring activated.

How to open a Logic express project in Logic Pro7

Hello All,
I am not sure if this is possible or not. I am working in Logic Express 8 and my buddy has Logic Pro 7. We would like to be able to take what I'm recording and bring the project into Logic Pro7 but I can't seem to be able to do so. Any suggestions? I've tried just coping a whole project folder onto a thumb drive and opening it on his system but it doesn't seem to like my project file.

Yes, I am in this situation right now....
In Pro Tools, long ago, it was possible to save sessions in a "special" way to make them backward complatible. It looks like this is not possible in Logic 8...
Some other thoughts?

Opening Garageband Projects in Logic-Question

When I open a garageband project in Logic 8, most of the audio tracks won't have sound, and when I create new audio tracks in those same projects, they also often don't have sound.
It seems random which tracks don't work and which do. And doubling tracks that are functioning right usually doesn't work.
All other kind of tracks (software inst., ext. midi, etc.) work.
Any idea what's wrong?
I looked through the discussions and couldn't find an answer- sorry if it's been asked.

Opening garageband projects in logic

opening garageband projects in logic seems to be a very simple procedure, however im having some difficulties.
I've tried to open all my garageband projects in logic pro 7, but none are working. I get a message saying "Damaged song, or not a Logic Express Song"
I dont know how to go around this message, because its not letting me open any.
Can someone help me with this?

I have been looking through the "logic for garageband users" manual, but the process goes a lot smoother in the manual. I actually got the idea from there to open the garageband projects in logic. It just tells me how to do it, but it didn't address any troubleshooting issues with opening them.

Thanks for replying to my question, I did mean Logic Pro but I'm relatively new to these programs. What's the difference with Soundtrack Pro and Logic Pro exactly? If I understood you correctly, Logic Pro would be the program I need since I need to create audio from scratch. Just to be more clear again, I want to see my video while composing audio at the same time but without having to export my video all the time since it takes long, being a big file. Can I open emagic logic projects in Logic Express 7.2?

I am recording a band in a few weeks, who have already laid down their (live) drum tracks in a proper studio that uses Emagic Logic. I don't know which version, but he runs it on a G4.
I use GarageBand at the moment, but am about to move up to Logic Express 7.2. Will I be able to import the Emagic Logic projects into Logic Express 7.2?

When you open Logic, close the project that its automatically brought up (see CCT's answer above, which explains how you can change that behaviour, if you like - I usually want to listen to the last thing I was doing, but its your choice - and then File>New.
So, yeah, you do have to close the currently loaded project first.

Cannot reopen project in Logic X after it crashed.

I was working on a project when Logic X crashed. Now if I try to open the project it just gets stuck while trying to load the track data. Is there anything I can do to remedy this? I am using Automap and Arturia Spark if that makes any difference. I seem to be having a lot of issues with that third party software.

The chances are it's Automap and the way it wraps plugins..that caused the crash.... as it's known to be somewhat unstable in certain situations currently. Make sure you have checked the "64bit friendly" option in Automap's preferences... as that might help. Also make sure you are using the latest versions of all your plugins including Automap and Spark
As to how you might resolve your current issue....
You can try and use LPX's Selective Track Import (STI) feature to recover most of your data from your project and put it in a new project... and at the same time it will allow you to identify which track/plugin is the source of your issue if you import one track at a time.

Is there a way of transferring iPad GarageBand projects to logic pro 9 without the use of GarageBand?
I currently have the 08' version of GarageBand as I don't use it on my mac but trying to open a project from my iPad leads to an error message stating that I need to upgrade to the latest version.
Is there a workaround for this or is upgrading the only solution?

Yes, you need to update your version of Logic to 9.14 and above (the latest is 9.15)

When I totally close eyetv and reopen eyetv and open a live tv window the closed captioning comes back. I never noticed this with os leopard, Just after i installed os snow leopard. All software is up to date only I think, thanks to apple they droped support for logic express. Thanks for any suggestions.

Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.

I need to copy audio files and projects from logic to an external hard as my MBPis nearly full and my external hard drive has packed up with all my files on it, any suggestions on how do I copy 200GB from my MBP to a new external HD

I Use logic and back my audio file and projects on an external HD ,this has now packed up . I have all the files in the MBP , but need to copy them to a new external HD, I have only 10GB left on my machine , how do I copy 200GB from my machine to a new External HD.

Yes, just drag and drop them into the drive..
How long will it take? Hard to say without knowing the type and speed of the drives in question.. and even then it's hard to estimate... but does time really matter?
The fact you only have 10 Gigs left will/may slow the process down but it wont/shouldn't stop it...
If needed.. just drag and drop some of the files at a time.. not all of them.
Remember that copying files doesn't delete them from the original drive... You will still need to delete them yourself after they are copied over and empty the trash....
However....
When you saved these projects in Logic (Pro X?) did you save them using the include audio files option?
If not, then when you move the audio files used in these projects... Logic will not know where they are to reload them........ and that will cause you issues.
So.. if you didn't...
I would use this method instead...

Why does logic randomly delete my project files?

Logic will periodically delete the project files from the project folder and i can't get it to stop. It often costs me hours of work. For example, i'll close logic (and save) and come back the next day to find the "xxxx.logic" file missing. No alias, no error message, just gone as if simply deleted. My backups are still there, but those are usually hours behind where i was. Any help????

Never heard of that one before.
Can you figure out at what stage the file get deleted. When you save your project and quit Logic, is it still in the FInder? If so then your problem is not Logic.
Until you find the cause, when you save the final Project, just do one optical change (extend a Region by one bar) and save the project, then quit Logic. If your project file gets deleted again then you can pull out the last saved backup file from the folder. It is identacal except that minor edit you did.
