Opening LR5 with latest catalog

Everytime I close LR5 (Windows version) I back it up, but when I open LR a different version of my catalog comes up, a version that has a lot of missing photos. The version with missing photos came about when I installed a new external hard drive, so instead of going into each folder and telling it where to find the photos on the new hard drive, I renamed the new hard drive and gave it the same "drive letter" as it had before. Then I opened the most recent backup version of LR when the old hard drive was on, and closed LR and backed it up to the new hard drive.
But now, everytime I open LR it opens the old version with the missing photos. To get the latest version of my photos I have to go into Windows Explorer and find the latest backup of LR and open it from there. How do I fix this?
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm running iPhoto 11 on my Mac using OSX 10.9.1 On Dec.12th I updated the iPhoto software to the latest version. When I try to open iPhoto on my Mac I get an alert box saying that I must upgrade to the latest version of iPhoto or I can't open my library.I've rechecked the latest iPhoto software and it says that it's installed. As Larry has already pointed out if you had iPhoto 7 before the upgrade you'll need download the iPhoto Library Upgrader 1.1, launch it and run it on your iPhoto library. It will be located in your Applications/Utilities folder. Then iPhoto 9.5.1 will be able to open and use your library.

Cant open files with latest adobe version??

I have a important form to fill out for a VISA application and once clicking on the form to download it tells me i have to update my adobe So i did. 3 times.....I have downloaded the most recent version and i keep getting the same message, it still tells me that i need to update??

Im using window 7 and using adobe version 15.007.20033.

Your photos remain in place, the catalog you have been using will remain. After you install Lightroom from the CC, all you have to do is open your existing catalog and continue right where you left off.

LR5.3 CC Catalog does not open all folders.

Last week I upgraded from LR4.3 to LR5.3CC on Windows 8, and since them I'm facing issues with the catalog.
I have about 80.000 pictures in one catalog, splitted in subfolders by date. If I click in the main folder (Photos), I can browse all pictures:
All works well until Feb 10, 2011. When I click on the date, it gets highlighted and all works well.
But, when I click on any date following Feb 10, 2011, it does not highligh as expected (actually it becomes only a little bit brighter), and it does not open the folder for browsing, but the navigator shows the first picture in the folder. The picture counting for each folder is correct. When I add more pictures and more folders to the catalog the folders and countings are updated, but the problem remains in the new folder.
What have I tried so far.
1) I inspected the folders looking for strange files - didn't find any.
2) I recreated the whole catalog.
3) I created another catalog for some of those non working folders, and it worked fine.
4) I optimized the catalog.
5) I rendered 1:1 previews.
6) I rebooted LR and Windows.
It's very frustrating. Never had a problem with LR4.
Any suggestions ?

Optimizing the catalogue was a good move.
I wonder if this is a variation of the bug where Lightroom fails to display long lists on Windows. Usually after about 1600 items, keywords for instance, any subsequent ones are hidden. So I'm thinking 11th February might be the 1601st.
What happens if you add a year folder and drag the date-folders under it? I'd just create one year initially, 2010, and then see if folders after 2012-02-11 behave normally.

Trouble with keyword import in LR5 from one catalog to another

Hi; I am trying to open a new catalog because my original catalog is getting somewhat sluggish. It has about 60000 images. First, will opening a new catalog improve anything? Second, I have tried to import the prior catalog "keywords" by going: metadata, import keywords, light room settings, key word sets and get "no items match your search. What am I doing wrong?

I have had this Nikon 7100 for about 6 months. It has more whistles and bells than I am likely to use. I haven't been troubled by 24 megs in LR I guess because I use it mostly for filing and Photoshop for editing. I only edit a few. If I were in need of batch editing, which I may in the future, I think LR would be better.
As to the timing, don't we all get spoiled. We have more computer power now than NASA had 15 years ago. It makes you wonder how the original Apple 2+ with 48k memory even functioned.

It doesn't sound unreasonable, it is the size of my current camera and I do have to wait for imports to complete but never timed them. Is this a new camera? The reason for the question is that megapixels matter a lot for Lightroom, it is something I haven't gotten used to yet. There are certain Develop adjustments Lightroom struggles with on a 24 megapixel file (cropping, and the Upright and Manual lens corrections, for example). In other words, there are things that Lightroom does on a 6, 12, 14 megapixel file with ease and cannot do with ease on a 24 megapixel file. Memory does not seem to matter, I recently upgraded my laptop and the performance improvement is marginal. You can almost hear the cogwheels moving sometimes. You have a choice as to whether or not applications in Lion like Word or Preview (or even Safari) save and re-open previous documents or windows... just hold down the option key while quitting a program and when you re-open it you won't get the previous documents or windows when you re-open the application. You can see this by selecting the open program in the menu bar and when holding down the option key the quit function will change to quit and discard open windows. This feature in Lion is referred to as "Resume" and is great if you want to restart an app and return to what you're doing (for example in Safari re-opening existing windows and tabs from your previous session). You still have the option to close individual windows within an app before quitting and they will not re-open when the app is launched again.
This Resume function is not related to saving your work (a word or text document for example). This is handled by Lion's "Auto-Save" and "Versions" functions. See http://www.apple.com/ca/macosx/whats-new/auto-save.html

First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously ignoring the red slider should one appear until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.
If that doesn't work quit the Facebook app. Go to the Home screen and double click the Home button. That will reveal the row of recently used apps at the bottom of the screen. Tap and hold on the app in question until it jiggles and displays a minus sign. Tap the minus sign to actually quit the app. Then tap anywhere on the screen above that bottom row to return the screen to normal. Then delete the Facebook app and download it again.

1. Close all apps in the Task Bar. Double-click the Home button and hold apps down for a second or two. Tap the minus sign to close app.
2. Hold the Sleep and Home button down until you see the Apple Logo.

"APPCRASH" trying to launch LR5.2 upgrade, catalog from LR3 stuck?

I recently upgraded my LR3.2 to LR5.2 and upon launching LR5, I keep receiving a "assertion fail" message with "Lightroom - Opening Catalog: DSC_3768.dng.lrcat" displayed on my desktop. Neither system will launch (3 or 5) and I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling both. I have searched around and am at my wits end trying to figure out a solution so that I can begin using my new LR5.2, any advice/tips are welcome and greatly appreciated! ...I have a Windows PC.

You have inadvertently created a Catalog using the name of an image file namely DSC_3768.dng. It is recognized by Lightroom as an invalid format and cannot open. I wonder if you are running an OS earlier than 10.9.x? If so, you cannot run the *latest* version of Pages, which is 5.1. Apple is trying to get you to update your OS to 10.9 Mavericks and then get you to update (but defintiely not upgrade) your Pages version to 5.1. 5.1 is, in everything but name, beta software. It not only has many bugs, it also lacks more than 90 features that are present in version 4.3 ("Pages 09"). One workaround that is to open the file with Pages for icloud (this is explcitly beta) and click tools|download a copy in Word format. Pages 4.3, which is probably the version you have, can open Word documents. Get a cup of coffee or a glass of wine before starting Pages for icloud: it is s-l-o-w.

Aperture will not open, even with re-install

I have not been able to open Aperture from my desktop or from the library. My library is huge, 993 GB. I have been using Aperture for years and with the latest upgrade to 3.2.3, it won't open. I get an error message that states "Aperture cannot be opened because of a problem. Here are the detatils:

I'm re-installing from a cd. I have upgraded since Aperture 1.0!! When I use the install from Aperture 3.0, it won't open my library (because it has been updated to a newer version of Aperture). So, I tried to open Aperture with the sample library on the disc. No go. States I don't have permissions.
I updated the re-installed version of Aperture 3.0 to the current 3.2.3. I still CANNOT open Aperture. I seem to be getting the same error message.
I have fixed permissions and all. My Mac is up to date. I don't know what else to do.
I have a MacBook Air and Aperture works great on it. Problem is my huge library is difficult to transfer or duplicate since it is so large. I think I will just take out my hard drive from my Mac Pro and put it in a desktop enclosure.
I can't even open Aperture from my Vault.

Outlook 2010 takes a long time to open emails with embedded images

Hello,
outlook 2010 on windows 7 both with latest updates applied. outlook is in online mode and the option "Don't download automatically in HTML email messages or RSS tiems" is not selected.
it takes a long time to open the message with an embedded picture: at 6 sec to open an image size of 75kb
When I open the same message in OWA no delays at all.
I am using Exchange server 2010 Sp2 and I already created new outlook profiles for the users affected. no changes.
Any ideas?

According to your description, I recommend you refer to the following methods to troubleshoot the issue:
1. Please check if there is any anti-virus software on your client PC, if yes , please disable it and check the result.
2. Please check if there are any 3rd party add-ins in your outlook, if yes, please remove it and check the result.
In addition, How many users encounter this issue? a lot or just only you?

Error message when opening LR5 on my MacBook Pro.

I have successfully installed LR5 on my iMac but for some reason it is not installing properly on my MacBook Pro laptop!! I have now tried installing this software three times. This is the message that appears in a grey box whenever I try to open LR5:
"An error occurred when attempting to change modules."
When I click on the OK button, another window opens telling me that "New software for LR is available and Statement 5.3 appears ... ".
There are three buttons at the bottom of the window and whichever one I choose, nothing happens. I would appreciate some help with this please?
