Opening mp4 files without video

I try to open mp4 files with video but some files opens video, some not. I can not fix the rule, becouse all files are mp4. I noticed "Auto open video panel when loading video files" in preferences is "on", so video panel is all the time open but video does not appear.  I have Soundbooth CS4 and working with Windows7. I do not remember if I had problems when working with XP few months ago. Right now evidently I have problem. Can someone suggest what I should adjust in my Soundbooth or what I should pay attention to, when loading audio-video file ???
Regards

Discovered the issue.
For mounted drives you need to use the nativePath property.
For cross platform applications you can simply replace() the delimiter with the .separator property.
Also for some reason the skin wouldn't load, despite the fact that I had chosen it in the component selector.
I ended up setting the myFLVplayback.skin property just before I added the component to the stage.
On  a related note, does anyone know if there's a difference between publishing an app with included folders, and simply publishing the app and adding the folders to the .app directory after the .app folder has been published?

  • Save or export an opened .mp4 file without re-encoding

How can I save or export an .mp4 file that I opened and trimmed without being required to re-encode it. I'm looking for an option to either save the .mp4 file without exporting, or export with a passthrough option such as the one available when using QuickTime Pro. Thanks.

Hmm, I would have expected inclusion of the basic feature set of QuickTime Pro to be a prerequisite for any commercial audio editing program.
The reason commercial audio editing programs don't work the way Quicktime Pro does is Quicktime Pro really isn't an audio app. If Quicktime is able to cut an trip an mp4 file (m4a, aac, whatever you call it) it's becaue it's editing the stream directly, probably similar to the way a file-splitter would work. MP3 was able to have this one too, one could chop an mp3 up in to parts without re-encoding...however, due to the way data is represente in a lossy format, you have several limitations in doing so.
Commercial Audio applications don't do this because it's not going to be done by professionals...even if Audition had this feature, it wouldn't be able to work the same as cutting a wave file. You have servere limitations on where you can cut a lossy audio file up without having to re-encode it.
Cutting the bitstream of an mp3 or m4a file is generally not a standard inclusion for any audio program...
But, remember, Quicktime is a "basic" video editor...not an audio editor nor should it be confused for one.

  • Quicktime Player 10.0 won't open mp4 files-Help, ASAP!

Error message: "The document “[x].mp4” could not be opened. The movie is not in a format that QuickTime Player understands."
    YIKES!
I'm just trying to play the danged file in Quicktime. Nothing fancy. The file plays fine on a G5 system running 10.5 8 (with QT 7.x), but I need to make a presentation with the laptop running 10.6. This is the first time that I have tried to play a mp4 file with the Player. It's possible that I have been able to play mp4s previously, using another program (under OS 10.6), but I don't recall. All recent software updates installed.

If you did an upgrade install QT7 gets moved to the Utilities folder, and if you had QT7 Pro, you'll still have it and the QT7 player in the Utilities folder will have all your old features.
That said, there's no reason why, if one has both Flip4Mac and Perian, you shouldn't be able to play most anything in QTX. At any rate, my QTX certainly plays mp4 files without any problem. However the largest mp4 I have handy is about 50MBs, so I can't check to see if size is a problem. I don't know why it would be though.

  • Opening a file without hearing the previous one....

How do we do to open a file without hearing the previous one if we open multiples files in a short time without willing to close the previous one each time ??

How do we do to open a file without hearing the previous one if we open multiples files in a short time without willing to close the previous one each time ??
If you don't wish to listen to all playing videos and it is too much trouble to stop or close non-foremost player windows, then don't use the QT X (or any similar) media player for playback. (I.e., this is what they are programmed to do.) Instead, use a media player like QT 7 which has a user preference that can be set so that only the "foremost" player window audio is heard when multiple videos are being played simultaneously.

  • Quicktime is not opening .mp4 files anymore

Hi, my quicktime stopped opening .mp4 files I record with my cellphone, that's pretty strange because I thought it was a problem with the phone but I can open them everywhere but in my Mac. This happen after I updated quicktime.
Does anybody knows what could it be?
    Thanls

I am having a similar problem. .mp4s are not playing. Used Handbrake to create an .mp4 file. It plays fine on every system but the one I need it to play on. Quicktime 7 won't play any video, just a white screen like it is missing a codec. I haven't had this problem before, and nothing has been recently installed that would effect Quicktime. Is there an easy way to reinstall the codecs? I've reinstalled Quicktime several times with no effect, recreated the .mp4 file several times, everything else plays fine. Any ideas?

I believe the proglem is with in Adobe CS5 and something just isnt working correctly and that maybe why it cant read or do anything with RAW files. I also noticed that Adobe's site says that it supports canon 70D CS2 files. my camera files are CR2, im not sure if maybe that might have something to do with my issue.
Nothing to do with anything being faulty in CS5.
The reason has already been given by tpolakov above: The 70D was first supported in Camera Raw 8.2 which is only compatible with CS6 and later. CS5 is not compatible with Camera Raw 8.2 so CS5 cannot read Raw files from the 70D. That's all there is to it.

Thanks Tomsm13, I actually tried to convert the files to DNG but that doesnt work either. I used the latest compatable Adobe DNG converter and i get a message that it can not find any camera RAW files to convert.
You select a folder containing CR2 files, not a CR2 file.
See Camera Raw: How to use Adobe DNG Converter - YouTube

  • Opening a file WITHOUT double-clicking

In Windows one can open a file from Explorer either by double-clicking or by hitting the Return/Enter key.
In Mac OS X I can only open a file by double-clicking it. So far, using the keyboard I can only rename it (when I hit Return), or delete it (if I press Command+Return).
Is there a keyboard shortcut for opening a file? I am a keyboard person and, sometimes, when I navigate from one folder to another, I would like to open the file without moving my hand to get the mouse.

It's Command-o, for open, of course. As you discovered, pressing Return is the handy short-cut to high-light the file for renaming.

No. The attached is the simplest way of modifying it to do as you want. I've
sped things up a little to make it obvious.
    > Will the array be able to keep all the data, is there a way i can do

You already are. You're making the arrays as you go along so only the memory
needed for the data that's in the plot is in use at any one time. To do it
    without storing
arrays at all you'd need to keep retrieving the data from
the XYgraph, adding the new datapoint and writing it back. Messy and I
    suspect incredibly inefficient.
You're going to use the memory in any case- a better option would be to
pre-initialise an array and fill it slowly. At the end of each 24 hour block
zap all the data and start again without destroying and recreating the
arrays. Or if you're only doing the 24 hour wipes to save memory, simply
start again at the start of the buffer woithout erasing the previous data
and you always have 24 hours of data to liik at once the system's running.
Do a search for keywords like "pre initialise" or "circular buffer" on

  • Unable to open mp4 files from legato video converter

I converted my hi8 tapes to mp4 files using legato video converter.  I am unable to open the mp4 files in adobe premiere 11.  Please help

    double nn
    Thanks for the additional information.
This is what I would like you to try.
Make copies of your present AVCHD.mp4 file. And, then go through the process of renaming the file extension ONLY from:
    mp4
    to
    .mts, m2t, m2ts, .mov, .avi.
Then set up a Premiere Elements 11 new project by
    a. Setting your own project preset NTSC DV Standard
To do that, in the Premiere Elements 11 workspace, File Menu/New/Project. Then in the New Project Dialog, set for NTSC DV Standard, making sure that you put a check mark next to "Force this Project setting on this project" before you click OK.
    b. Then import your AVCHD.mp4, AVCHD.mts, AVCHD.m2t, AVCHD.m2ts, AVCHD.mov, AVCHD.avi into Premiere Elements 11 with its Add Media feature.
Do any of the files with the different file extensions import?
We will be watching for the outcome.
    Thanks.

  • Can't open mp4 file

I transfered video clips from the Sony EX 3 using the Sony XDcam software. I then transfered it to another hard drive, and I'm trying to import it into my FCP program, but I can't even open up the file. QT says "The movie could not be opened: the movie contains some invalid data." Does anyone know what this means and how to fix it? Thanks.

    Lubella wrote:
The file says mp4 next to it. Should I try converting it to mp2? How would I do that?
The issue seems to be that the files are already MPEG-2 which QT cannot edit. If they are MPEG-2 you need to buy the QT MPEG-2 codec ($20) and then open the files in MPEG Streamclip, trim as needed , then export to DV or a high bitrate non lossy codec like Animation or a high quality lossy codec like H.264 and then use that file in Final Cut.
There should be no need to use Sony software to export the files if they are just files, drag from the card or drive or whoever they are stored. Then try Streamclip.

  • Quick time player 10.3 won't open .mp4 file

I purchased an .mp4 file, downloaded it and tried to play it.  QuickTime Player 10.3 opened automatically.  QuickTime Player error message appeared stating that the application could not open the file.  I went to the Apple Support page that lists files that QuickTime should open and .mp4 was right there on the list.  The file appeared to try to "convert" into something else and then disappeared from the screen (when I clicked on "Tell Me More").
Any ideas on how I can play the file?

Try with vlc, if this doesn't show your video them the file may be corrupt.

  • Opening .exe files/Converting video format

Is there a way to open .exe files on my MacBookPro? (There is no virtually pc emulator for the MbookP, yet). Also, what I am trying to do is convert music video files that I downloaded to .mp4 file format so I can watch them on my iPod....Unfortunately I have no clue what I am doing, and I don't know of any freeware. If you know how to do this-Post!

You can open .exe files on intel mac by booting into windows XP but that would involve using bootcamp
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp/
    or virtualisation
    http://www.parallels.com/en/products/workstation/mac/4
If music videos play in your browser you can capture them using snapzpro

  • Player pauses and skips with .mp4 files from video camera

As you will tell, I'm a total novice at this video stuff. I just purchased this new Sanyo HD1 video camera. It creates .MP4 files and says they can be played with QuickTime (included with on the CD!). When I play the clips with QT, I get terrible playback - video/audio pauses and large chucks of video just drops. I've tried the clips on a variesty of high end machines (latest version of QT) with the same results. Interestingly enough, if you use the product that also comes on the CD for viewing (ULead) - everything looks smooth. I'd rather use QuickTime and go Pro for those features if I can get it to work. Suggestions?
Sony Vaio 3.8Ghz, 1G Ram   Windows XP

I also have this same problem and have found I can get the file to play if I select the "add to selection and scale" option under the edit tab. However when I exit and save the option I still have to select the option on the same file the next time I open it in order to get the file to play.
    What is the fix?

When I open iTunes and press CTRL+O to upload a file, in this case a tv programme with a MP4 format, nothing comes up in the section TV Programmes. Anyone who can help?
    Thanks!

    Hi Mario,
thank you very much for your response. I have tried this several times but this is not working either for me.
In the attachment you can see my iTunes printscreen. If i drag mp4 files to TV programmes and Films (which normally do work) nothing happens. Also when I try to upload this through CTRL+O nothing uploads.
Any way you have a solution for this?
