  • How to open msg files

How do I open MSG files on my mac?

These are email related files created on Windows.
This program should be able to open them.
Outlook for Windows is able to open them, so maybe try using Outlook Mac to open it, if you have it installed.

  • Can't open .msg files more then once, saved or as an attachment to an email

    we use :
    microsoft xp & office/outlook 2003
can't open .msg files more then once, saved or as an attachment to an email
If we save an email as a outlook.msg file , we can only open it once, close it,
when trying to open it again it gives an error that it is not possible due to a scurity issue or it is already open.
After closing outlook and starting it again, we can open it once again.
Same when clicking an .msg that is attached to an email, but here we can switch to another email, go back to the one and open it again.
We have installed all updates for both xp and office 2003 also internet explorer 8.0 to test if that would work, normally we have ie7.0.

    Hi,
    1.  What is the detail error information, please try to reproduce the issue and then post the detail error information here.
    2.  Did you save the msg file locally or on a network drive?
    3.  Please try to check security on the msg file and also check the drive NTFS permission.
    4.  Copy over the email messages from the affected user machine to a different machine and check if the issue persist.
    5.  Test if the issue persist after saving a new email on Mailbox to local drives.
    6.  Copy over the affected email messages from local drive to a PST file and check if these emails can be opened fine.
    1)    Create a new PST file .
    2)    Added to user’s Outlook profiles.
    3)    Launch Outlook .
    4)    Highlight a folder under this PST.
    5)    Drag and drop or copy/paste the emails from local drive to Folder highlighted under the PST files.
Besides, please try to remove all the add-ins like Entrust and then test the issue again.
    1.     Remove add-ins
    1)    Uncheck all Third-Party Add-ins selected in Outlook , found under Tool\Options\Other\Add-ins managers.
    2)    Export the registry hive below for backup.
      HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Outlook \Addins
      HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Outlook \Addins
    3)    Delete the registry entries under the above path for all Third-Party Add-ins.
    4)    Close , Open Outlook and attempt to open email message on local drives.
    2.     Temporarily stop all third-party application running following the steps
    below.
    1)    Run MSCONFIG
    2)    Go to Services Tab\Select Hide all Microsoft Services check box.
    3)    Click Disable All.
    4)    Restart the Machine Test if the issue persist.
    5)    To revert back the above setting Run MSCONFIG, Go to General Tab , Select Normal
    Startup and restarted the machine.

1 Translated from dutch as good as i know :
"Can't open : c:\test.msg, it might not exist, do you have the required permission to open the file or is it open in another application. Click
with the right mousebutton on the map click properties to view/check the rights for that map."
2 tried both, the network and locally, i have the rights to save it in the map and open it once, so thats not the problem, iseems that outlook locks the file after it is openen once.
3 security and ntfs permissions are ok, see 2
4 tried it from different pc's networks maps etc.
    5 done.
6 in a pst file the msg can be openen ore than once, but thats not the problem, tried and this works, but i need to save an email as an .msg file.
7 addins removed and doen all of that part, didn't help.
    We also have tried:
    -Installing all updates and ie8
-going back to xp sp2 (fresh install of xp)
Only thing that did work was an msg file attached to an email, we couldn't open that more then once,
but after  checking "Use exchange modus with cache" at the account properties we could open that more than once.
Now we need to be able to open the email's saved as .msg more then 1 time.

  • Security prompt when opening .msg files in SAP

I have a customer that gets this prompt when opening an attachment in SAP.  The attachment was saved from Outollk so it is in .msg file format.  The customer is using Windows 7, and Office 2007.  This is from the customer:
As discussed, below is a screen shot of the pop up I receive every time when opening an email attachment with T-Code VA02.  I use this function multiple times per day.  Even if I select “Always Allow,”  I continue to receive this pop up.

    Hello Ronald,
Did you try to create a security rule at the SAP GUI?
Access the SAP GUI "options", then "security" -> "security settings". Click at the "Open security configuration" button, and then at the "insert" button.

  • Can't open *.msg files from Windows

I am moving from PC to Mac and I used to store my e-mail messages as *.msg files in my hard drive and not Outlook 2011 nor Mail recognizes them so I can't open them, what can I do?

But what about if I want to view the attachments as well? I have Office for Mac 2011 and I've been trying to open some .msg files from Outlook 2007. I received them as files on a disk, and I was able to open them on my PC at work just fine. However, I can't open them on my Mac. I downloaded a free trial of Mail Raider (and a couple other programs, but none of them worked.) It only opens some of the files. They come out as a mess and the attachments aren't accessible. And the rest of the files just don't open at all, or sometimes it doesn't realize there are attachments. I was able to randomly extract one attachment and a jumbled email message, and that's my only success so far. I used the same method on another email/attachment and got nothing. According to what I've seen on Microsoft blogs/forums, it seems like Outlook 2011 should be able to open these files, so I shouldn't even need another program, right? Please help!

  • I cannot open .msg files I have saved to my external hard drive

Rename your Preview Cache. It is in the same location and has the same name as your Lightroom Catalog.  Rename it to catalogname.lrpreviewold and when Lightroom launches, it will rebuild the Preview Cache.
Does this allow you to open your catalog?

  • Is there an original or common apple software to open .msg files

I am new to iMac, and I have been receiving .msg files in emails etc, which I can not open, what is the correct apple software solution, I use mail. but the imac has entourage installed Thanks Kirk Olsson

Microsoft Outlook for Mac will open a .msg file. You can purchase Office for Mac from multiple sources, Amazon among them. I would recommend running MS Office for Macs 2011. Here is a link to the correct version, you can shop to see if you can find it for less locally.

  • Unusual behavior when trying to open a .msg file within a document library

We are running SP 2010 service pack 2
We had a user who contacted us saying they were not able to open .msg files in their doc library. After playing with things a bit, two work around were found:
    * if the item is checked out, then clicking on it opens the file in outlook
    * if the doc library view is changed to explorer view, and the file is double clicked, the file opens in outlook.
Is anyone aware of a reason why these extra steps are necessary?
I don't see anything in the background info as to whether this is the case for all our users or only for some.

The user is prompted with a File Save dialog to provide a place for the file to be saved.

  • Can't open Outlook msg files

    Hi,
We are using Windows Phone with Nokia Lumia and we can't open outlook msg files.
From Desktop, we save Outlook messages into msg format in SharePoint libraries, but When I try to open this message using Internet Explorer with Nokia Lumina, it can't do it. Windows Phone can't open msg files.
It is this possible? Can't install Outlook client into Windows Phone? Exists any msg reader?
    Thanks

    Hello,
I am not really sure what that means?
Did you set it up manually on the sequencer, or did you create it manually on after monitoring?
Is whats captured the same thing as whats setup when its working?
Have you compared how it works on a manually setup client vs whats actually configured within your package?

  • Open .msg Outlook Files

Does anyone have any experience with this company/product?
    http://www.puissancemac.ch/shop/index.php?showauxpage=70
I really need to be able to open .msg files on my employer's network so I can go through old e-mails as required.
    Any ideas would be great.
    Thanks,
    Lawrence

    Hey West,
Yeah, I've tried that. I've tried changing to .eml, opening with word as html (and several other types), opening with entourage, and a few other things I've found on the web. I actually don't mind paying for an app to do this properly, but am worried about downloading something I just found (as well as logging on with my paypal through their website). Of course, if anyone knows of any better apps for this, I'll easily accept. I've got to be able to see attachments and all. It's just not working for me.
    Thanks,
    Lawrence

  • Documentum Crawl of .msg files

I am trying to view .msg (Outlook saved) files in Documentum through the portal. I had my crawler bring in cards, however when I click on the link, the document is not in readable format. I tried using global document type map to map .msg files to MS Office and Exchange accessors with no luck.
Is the view of a document in documentum through the portal limited to the browser's rendition of the document? (I notice that .doc and .xls documents are opened through IE's Word and Excel respecitively) If so can IE open .msg files in readable format? Thanks.
    Randy

In the future please address these questions to the discussions in the Deployment Center. The Deployment Center is for help in deploying supported Plumtree products (like the Documentum crawler). You can also open a support incident.
Questions regarding code you are developing will be answered best here.

  • .msg files open in new tab or window, not with the default program

    Hello,
I am having an issue with .msg files not opening with the default program, Outlook. They are opening in a new tab and it is just a bunch of gibberish from the email header. Does anyone know how to force IE to open the .msg files in Outlook? They open fine
    in Chrome and Firefox.
    Thanks for your help!

    Hi,
First I suggest we take a try in IE with no-addons.
    Follow the steps below:
    1. Click Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> Internet Explorer (with no add-ons)
    2. Press Shift, then right click Internet Explorer icon on taskbar, select run as administrator;
Please also take a verify that if the outlook is set to the default open program of .msg files:
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Default Programs\Set Default Programs, find the .msg file and take a look.
Then we may try to use process monitor to track the root cause of this issue:
    The download link here:
    Process monitor
    And here is
a blog talking about how to use it:
Process Monitor - Hands-On Labs and Examples
    Hope this may help

  • How do I open a .msg file...is it safe?

Occasionally i get an email with a .msg file attached.  It is from a friend who is known to me.  How do I open it and is it safe?
    Thanks for the help..

The user has sent a message using MS Outlook, which packages attachments in it's own format ( arrogantly assuming that all recipients have Outlook too). This will take care of it for you by converting the file to its original.

How can I open Outlook .msg files?
    I have FireFox 3.6.15

It's not an apple solution but you can try MailRaider by 45 RPM software. I have not used it personally but it was one of the hits that came up when I did a google search for .msg on Mac.
Hopefuly the link posts but if not then just head over to macupdate and do a search for MailRaider

  • How do I open a file with an .msg extension please?

Hello, can anyone tell me how I can open a file with an .msg extention please?

On a Classic operating system, which predates 2001, it may be difficult, except with a really old version of BBEdit Lite from http://www.barebones.com/
Newer versions of BBEdit or Textwrangler can probably also open it if you don't have a Classic operating system.
Microsoft Entourage and Outlook can probably also open such documents.   Outlook Express was available for Classic operating systems as well, but it may be too new for it to read those documents.
