Opening Multiple Catalogs

I just backed up my PSE4 catalog to an external hard drive. I took the hard drive to my daughter's house and copied the "backup catalog" onto her internal hard drive (as well as to her external hard drive for safe-keeping). I made a separate folder called "Dads PSE Backup Catalog" on her hard drive, so that is where all my backup data went.
She is running PSE4 on her computer, with her own catalog of pictures on her internal hard drive. What steps would she have to take to open my back-up catalog without it over-writing her catalog?

She need to go to File Menu
- Select Restore Catalog option
- It will show a Dialog
- In top portion check second radio button "Hard Drive/Other Volume"
- Click Browse and go to the location where you have copied the back-up catalog on internal drive.
- It will show a .tly file
- Select the file and say OK
- Now Select New Location
- Click Browse and go to Desktop
- Create a New folder & Select it
- Click Restore Button.
Now your daughter will have a new catalog which will be restored to the new location on desktop.

I tried re-installing only the presentation services but it dint work.
Is it a problem with Java in my system?

I did find a workaround i can open multiple catalog managers through the startup.jar file in
OracleBI\web\catalogmanager ,but if try to open through the catalogmanager.exe it fails to open more than one session.

Question concerning multiple catalogs in Lightrtoom

Hello Everyone,
I create separate catalogs in LR for each subject I shoot. As an example, I have one for the White Mountains, one for Boston, and one for Vermont. There are photos in each that I would like to put into a special catalog called "portfolio".
I did this for my Vermont catalog, I created what I guess is a sub catalog. When I changed to a different catalog, I wasn't able to see the portfolio catalog I created when I was in the Vermont catalog. I then tried making a quick collection of images in a catalog, but when I saved it, I wasn't able to see this catalog from a different catalog.
I don't want to export a JPEG to a different catalog as a portfolio. I want a virtual copy of the image in this portfolio catalog. I want the original NEF and XMP files to stay in their original location. Is this possible in Lightroom?
I am running Lightroom v. 1.2 on a WinXP machine.
Before posting this, I looked in Martin Evening's book and Scott Kelby's book and I wasn't able to find what I'm looking for.

Leigh,
Create a new catalog as your "Master Catalog".
Then Menu File>Import from catalog and select the former catalogs (such as your vermont catalog).
Now you will have a master catalog with your vermont pictures and a vermont catalog with vermont pictures. So the answer to your question "Would I still have the separate catalogs if I merged them into one big master catalog?" is yes. However, managing 2 separate catalogs which have the same information could be tedious and confusing.
Import the other catalogs into the master as necessary.
Now for the portfolio. It seems to me that the most efficient way of handling this would be a collection rather than a catalog. This way you can add and subtract from the portfolio "collection" without having to update a separate catalog.
You have made your searching job much easier in one respect since you already use keywords and a logical folder stucture. SO if you were looking for the vermont images it would be a simple matter of either selecting the keyword "vermont" from the keyword tag list or selecting the relevant folder from the folder list.
Separating catalogs just for the type of shoot means you have to open that catalog first which as you have discovered means you cannot search another catalog at the same time (making comparisions of images or creating collections almost impossible)
When you place an image in the Portfolio collection it does not move or copy it from the main library or from the folder stucture in which the asset lives. It is in essence a virtual copy but not the same as a Lightroom virtual copy. You would only need to make a virtual copy if you were actually giving a different treatment to the same file. Treatment mening, processing or cropping. A single image record can reside in multiple collections without the need for a vitual copy.

You can only see the menu of one responsibility at a time, so how to do you expect the application to let you see multiple responsibilities/menus in one session?
You could open another session and this way you can access more than one responsibility at the same time.

Yeah, not much more to say. Since I upgraded to firefox 5.0, I can no longer open multiple windows. Multiple tabs work, but I don't like tabs. Please help.

You can have multiple nodes open on a tree, so I guess you could open them all up on a button click.
Another option that might be possible is to use individual Accordians for each section and then use the click function to close the others.

It was possible to do this with the old one by right-clicking and selecting "open", but I haven't been able to find a way to make it work with the new one.

I looked at the download section of the Library dialog, which you can open using either:

I couldn't figure out any way to open multiple items in one step. I can select multiple items, but... no way to launch them. Seems you need to double-click or press Enter to open a single selected item, and repeat for each item you want to open.

How to open multiple jpgs in Adobe Camera Raw PSE 9 Mac

I am using Adobe Elements 9 on a Mac. I can open a single jpeg file in ACR with the file open command. There is no "Open As" in my version, probably because this is the Mac version. But, there is an additional dialog which allows me to open the jpeg file and select "Camera Raw" as the type. This opens the jpg in the raw editor.
But, when I select multiple files to open, the type dialog vanishes. Rather than opening the files in ACR, they are stacked in the main editor. I don't have this problem opening multiple dng files - just multiple jpg files. Multiple jpg files will not open in ACR.
I then went to the organizer, which replaced Bridge? In Bridge, I read there is a command to open multiple files in ACR or use the cmd-R. However, I am not seeing an open in ACR command in the organizer, just open in editor. Opening multiple jpg files in the organizer stacks them into the editor, not ACR. And, typing cmd-R brings up Red Eye reduction, not Raw Editing.
Is there a trick to this which I am missing?

I’ve been using this for a few years and settled on the somewhat more flexible approach… As you mentioned, Bridge offers an explicit command to open a JPEG or TIFF in Camera Raw, which I do, but then with a press of Shift I can open that JPEG as a smart object and revisit CR controls for further adjustment at any time later in the process.

Photoshop is opening multiple times...WHY??? (please help).

When I double click on an image (from Bridge for example) to open in Photoshop it will open up CS6 and then sometimes when I open another image, instead of opening up in the same open Photoshop program, it will open up an additional Photoshop program. Both CS6, Version 13.0.6 x64. Super frustrating when sitting with a client and trying to add an image to a document and it opens up in a different program... Is there a way to see where Photoshop is opening from? Why would CS6 be opening multiple times???
I don't think I noticed this happening before I upgraded to Mavericks (yes, this has been happening for a while). I also have a back-up program called SuperDuper that mirrors my system on a separate hard drive. Could Photoshop be opening from there, too?

Can't open multiple PDF docs on same display

I have a Windows 7 x64 machine, with Acrobat X Standard, running dual displays.
The problem is that I can't get multiple PDF files to open on my right display. One PDF file will open on the right display, if no other PDF files are open. The first one always opens there by default. The problem is that if one file is open, any subsequent PDF files ALWAYS open on the left display, on top of my design software. Then I have to drag it back over to the right to see what I'm doing on the left. Very annoying.
EVERY other application installed on my machine opens where it's supposed to. Multiple Firefox windows always open in the same place on the right display. Multiple Windows Explorer windows always open on the right display. Multiple Outlook, Word, Excel, etc. docs always open on the right display.
Acrobat is the ONLY app that will not open multiple docs on the right side. I had the same issue with Acrobat Reader 9 before I installed X.
My old machine used to do the same thing with Acrobat 8 Standard, and at some point there was an update that seemed to fix it. However I can't seem to get it to work with X on my current machine. Any ideas?

The problem is with the document, not the program.You can try to open the file in Preview and print from there. Otherwise, you will need to contact the creator of the document for a new version of the file.

Open multiple indd docs through SDK

How can I open multiple indesign documents found in a folder chosen
through a folder chooser?
I need to open each indesign doc in that folder and do some
modification on each.

Hi Alicia!
You can use the FileSystemIterator to go through all the files in a folder. See the paneltreeview sdk sample plug-in for example code for this.
Basically you probably want something like this:

Oh, you need to include the actual implementations of PlatformFileSystemIterator and SDKLayoutHelper to your project so they are compiled into the plug-in, as they arent part of the InDesign runtime libs.

Open Multiple PDF files from Production order/Routing

Hi Everyone
We are in ECC 6.0 environment. We have a scenario where multiple documents were attached to single operation and also at multiple operations. But when I was trying to open these PDF documents, only the last file was getting opened and closing the previous file. How can I open multiple PDF files at one time from Production order or Routing?
Any help is appreciated.

from DMS standard I regret but such a functionality is not available. In the standard originals can be opened only one after another.
I think for realising this functionality an individual modificatoin is necessary.

CRVS2010 - open multiple rpts at the same time, like sheets in a xls file ?

is that possible to open multiple reports at the same time, like sheets in a excell file ?
Is that possible create tabs beside the MainReport tab ? or include reports in the Group Tree ? how can I do it ?
The application is in asp.net with VS2010 and CR2010.
The reports used to be in excell with three sheets and now we are migrating them to crystal reports, how can I create the report with those three sheets ?

You may want to do a post to the [Crystal Reports Design|SAP Crystal Reports; forum and ask them how they's fake that sort of a requirement. E.g.; there may be some way to make this report look the way you want, but it will be best to ask the experts. Don't mention CRVS2010 as they don't support it and most likely you will not get an answer.

Can you opening multiple albums at the same time in Photo (not iPhoto)?

When converting the iPhoto library to Photo most of the albums that were in place in iPhoto converted to albums in Photo . . . .but not all. Some were retained as events mainly those that were folders within an album. In order to move them to the right album I would like to have multiple albums open at the same time (side by side) so that I can make sure not to duplicate photos or move them to the wrong spot.
I cant see how to do this, it seems that I can need to open one album and check phots and then close to look within and other and rely on memory. There must be a more efficient and accurate way to do this?

All of the events in iPhoto were converted to albums and are located in the Folder titled iPhoto Event in the sidebar of Photos.
You can't open multiple albums at the same time. You can create a smart album that will do essentially the same thing with the following criteria:
Album is "A"
Album is "B".
The smart album will display all of the photos in those two albums.
