Opening MX 2004 files in MX

Hi, I'm trying to open files designed for Flash MX 2004 on
Flash MX and I'm getting the unexpected file format error.
Is there a patch available so I can open the files?
Thanks for any help.

Have someone with MX2004 save the fla as version 6 for you.
You can also convert a version 7 swf to a version 6 fla with
soThink
SWF Decompiler.
In both cases, features that require version 7 will no longer
work.

  • Can director open MX 2004 files?

I just upgraded to Mac Snow Leopard. I knew that MX 2004 10.2 was not compatible, but I was using 10.1 and thought it would be okay. Well, Snow Leopard won't run 10.1 either. I also have Director 11 installed. Snow Leopard will run that one, but I can't open or convert any of the 10.1 files with Director 11 because Director crashes when I try to do that.
Does anyone know what might be going on here? Is there a way to open MX 2004 files in Director 11? I REALLY don't want to re-create all of my files in Director 11.

    Hi Bob,
It probably doesn't matter what the error dialog says as it's unlikely to be something you can fix. I would suggest emailing Allen Partridge directly to make him aware of your problem: mailto:[email protected] and I'd also suggest logging a bug in the hope someone will take it seriously - the more noise you make, the more likely you are to get some traction. However, I'd advise against holding your breath and suggest you find someone able to convert your files for you - either on a Mac with an earlier OS (in case Snow Leopard has anything to do with it - which I think is unlikely), or on a Windows machine. Depending on file size I would be prepared to try one for you if that would help.

Have not a clue if this a LION problem or Microsoft problem.  My gut says Microsoft as they acknowledge the problem in their support section.  Their solution:  Open files with previous version of Word.  That is completely unacceptable as a solution in my opinion.  Why would have I ever bothered to upgrade to 2011 if I had known I need to keep a version of 2008 running on my computer.
Honestly I don't know if it's a Lion or MS problem eihter. I have been using Lion for many months with Office 2011 with no problems though. The earliest version I had on my machine was 2008 and 2011 opened those files with no problems at all. As Dave mentioned earlier he opens Office 2004 files all the time with 2011.
One thing you might want to do is restart the computer while holding down the Option key then select the Restore Volume and run Disk Utility and repair the Disk Permissions on the HD. Run DP at least 2x.

  • How do I convert Word 2004 files for use with Mavericks?

I have recently upgraded to Mavericks and now find that my old Word files (2004) can't be opened. (I can still open my Word 2008 files.) I have been a maths teacher for decades and have many old files which are still very useful but they contain more than just text; they contain diagrams, MathType expressions etc. etc. I need to be able to convert these files to files that can be opened with Mavericks. Can anyone tell me how I can do this?

Office 2008 should function in Mavericks and it willl open Office 2004 files:
    http://roaringapps.com/app/microsoft-office-2008
Hence, you do not need to partition and install Snow Leopard into a new partition.  I gave you my previous advice before you indicated you are now using Office 2008.

  • Trouble opening Flash MX 2004 files in CS3

Has anyone encountered any problems trying to open orignal
.fla files created in Flash MX 2004 in the CS3 version? I get an
    error stating "unexpected file format".

I tried opening your test file in my version of CS3 and it
shut it down completely - CS3 quit
unexpectedly. Rare for me as I have been using/testing CS3
for months and not seen this issue - i
suspect the file is corrupt in some way but then again it
would open in flash 8 - can you save as
from flash 8 with a new name and upload again?

  • Open Flash 8 file with MX 2004

I am teaching a web design class and the student files that
came with the book are a newer version than what I am using. I am
using Flash MX 2004 and assume the files are either Flash 8 or CS3.
Is there anyway to get MX to open the new file?
    Thanks,
    Paula

    sorry - typed too fast:
    Save As...from Flash 8 to MX 2004 - if CS3 Save As...to Flash
    8, open in Flash 8, Save As...to MX 2004.
Also - search the forum before posting - there was a
discussion about this in the past 12 hours.
been many discussions over the years as well. It is also
    covered in help docs.
    Hope this helps.

  • "The File Format is Invalid" whenever I try to open a Word File

Pages 3.0.2 consistently returns the 'format invalid' error when I try to open .doc files. These are mostly of kind Microsoft Word 97-2004. I get the same result whether I try to open the file from within Pages or drag the file to the dock icon (running or not) or even if I change the file properties to open it with pages. Opening a .doc file in TextEdit yields only gibberish, so that avenue is not open either.
This is a new MacBook Air I'm setting up for my wife who wanted something lighter for the road, which required over a Gigabyte of upgrades right out of the box. At least Pages will run, unlike Word for Mac 2008, which after an upgrade aimed to fix an issue where Word quits 'unexpectedly' when one opens or uses the program still fails to start up. This means that I have no chance to re-save files until my wife returns with her old iBook G4 with a functioning copy of Word 2004.
Short of installing OpenOffice* does anyone have any suggestions for 'unlocking the functionality' of Pages?
*Next on my list, though I've used it and find it emulates Word all too well in sluggishness.
    Thanks.

what version of java is displayed when you go to https://www.mozilla.org/plugincheck/ (it should currently be java 7 update 45 - if not try to download it again from java.com).
if java plugin content isn't playing despite you have allowed it from the icon in the address bar please also make sure, that you're not using an addon like noscript, adblock or others that might also block such content & you may need to accept all security-related messages that come from the java plugin itself...

  • How can I open AppleWorks 6 files using Pages or Word?

I am currently running Mac OS X v.10.4.11, but I am turning in my old mac for a new one in about a week. Almost all of my important files are AppleWorks 6 files and my new mac will not have this program since it has been replaced with Pages. I currently have AppleWorks 6, Microsoft Word 2004 for Mac, and Pages 08 on my old mac. I am unsure as to what applications I will have on my new mac (I am a teacher and the macs are school computers so I do not have control over the software), but I think it will have both Word 2008 and Pages 08 or 09. So far I have not had any luck opening my AppleWorks files in Pages or Word. I have been able to copy and paste the AppleWorks files into Pages (they are mostly Draw documents, not simple word processing), but they become an image so I cannot edit the content. I need to be able to edit my documents on my new computer and do not have time to open each AppleWorks file and copy it to Pages anyway. Any suggestions to help me with this compatibility problem?

AppleWorks will run fine on your new Mac, though if you transfer it from the old one you should delete it from there to stay within the terms of the licence. You would need to copy the Appleworks folder over, not just the application.
Pages can open Appleworks 6 word processing documents, Numbers can open Appleworks 6 spreadsheets. It's possible to open AW Draw documents in Eazydraw, or in Pages through a workaround. Nothing will open AW Database documents.
I have written a detailed article going into the process of migrating from Appleworks, including the workaround for Draw>Pages:

  • Opening my appleworks file in word 2007

I have a PC at work and used to have a mac at home (I will be getting a new mac in a few months). I have an appleworks file that I saved a while ago that I am trying to open on Word 2007 at work, but there isn't the converter like word 2003 had. Any ideas how I can open this file? Thanks in advance
    Jolene

    Welcome to Apple Discussions Jolene
I never have had good luck opening AppleWorks documents in Word 2003 on my work PC. Where Word 2004 on my Mac opens them almost flawlessly, they will open on the PC, but full of "garbage text." A one-line AppleWorks word processing document became 26 pages in Word. Of course, Word won't even know it can open the AppleWorks file if it doesn't have the .cwk extension. And it can only open word processing files.
I think you'll have much better luck if you save your AppleWorks documents as Word before sending them. Be sure to add the .doc extension because AppleWorks won't do it for you.

  • Opening MS-Office files

    Hi,
I installed MS Office 2004 on my iMac (intel). But now, when I open any Office file (.doc, .xls, ...) by double-clickin on an icon, they are associated with a "trial" version of MS Office. How can I change it, so that files are opened with the "right" Office version (not the trial one) ?
    Thanks

    Hi Pepol,
Well you can right-click (or control-click) on the file in question. From there select Get Info. Once that window opens look for the combo box below Opens With. Then select the installed version of Office as the default application. Repeat the process for all the Office fomatted file types.

  • HT4767 cannot open office 2004 with lion

just upgrade to lion and now i cannot open office 2004.  now what?

    Hello Zendentity,
Office 2004 is not compatible with OS X Lion.
You can upgrade to Office 2011 or use the free LibreOffice. Compatible with all major competitors' file formats. You can easily import files from Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint and many other formats, and can easily save to Microsoft Office and other formats when needed.

  • Problems opening documents (zip files, excel) after upgrade to Snow Leopard

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard I have not been able to open a lot of files. Mainly, zip files and excel documents (which I had no problem opening before the upgrade. It seems that when I save the files down (from my email or whatever) the files go into the "Archive Utility" program, I try to open them from the Finder but they still won't open (or unzip).
When I go to open an excel document (most likely from a PC user), I get a msg that the file isn't formated for excel. However, before the upgrade to Snow Leopard I had no issue opening this same file in Mac Office-Excel.
Thanks in advance for your help/advise.
    -Katherine

    Hello Katherine:
I have not experienced those problems, but I do not receive Excel spreadsheets via E-mail. My Stuffit Expander version is 13.0.2.
You might want to check your Excel preferences to see if there is a setting that needs to be changed (compatibility?). I use Office 2004 so your version may be different.
You could also trash preference files to see if something happened during the install.
