OPENING NEW TAB WITHOUT SWITCHING TO IT IMMEDIATELY?
When I right click on a link for a new tab, the new tab opens up and goes to it immediately, to where before, I would be able to stay on my current page. I've checked options and the box that disables this feature is unchecked.....is there any way to disable this feature?
The "synchro-click" does not work on any PC I have tried it on (unfortunately).
Curiously, I partially fixed the problem by disabling the 'Open new window in new tab instead' option - partially, because new tabs open in the background for all websites... except this one!!!

With the bookmark list open I like to open a number of them at a time, the be problem is that each time I click on a bookmark it opens and switches to a new tab. I like to open around 5 tabs from the bookmark list, with FF I have to open the bookmark sekect the bookmark menu again open another and so on. It would be nice to be able to open the bookmarks straight from the list. That way the first one is loading while i open the others.

If you have a tab-related extension installed, it may have "taken over" that preference or modified it.

Opening new tab without clicking in navigation
Every time I open a new tab in safari by clicking on the + button up top and a new tab opens I always have to click in the navigation bar to enter a new web address. on my macbook pro i never had to do this and I could just start typing as soon as a new tab opened. I couldn't find anything on this topic. Please help.

ChrisIn Safari, on the menu named "Safari" open Preferences and see what "New tab opens with" is set to. If it is set to Top Sites for example, the cursor should be active and blinking in the address bar, but if it is set to Home Page then it won't be. I didn't test the other options for that Preference.

Safari Crash on Install, Crash on Bookmarks Tab/Cover Flow/Open New Tab
Have got the most recent Safari version installed, after it was pushed via Software Update. After going through the update process it said "Install had failed, package sent to the Trash" - however on opening Safari, it said it was version 4.0.4.
Confusing enough without adding on the fact that I can't delete items from the bookmarks bar with a complete Safari Crash, can't use Coverflow without a complete Safari Crash and can't use the option "Open New Tab" without a complete crash (although I can open a bookmark in a new tab with an Apple/Click).
Quartz Extreme is supported on my system. I've tried a cache clear/reset. Need advice/guidance. This is driving me crazy.Thanks for your advice. I have tried downloading and installing Safari as you suggested, the installer will not complete and tells me that the install has failed. I have the latest security updates.
Perhaps it is time to take the route back to Safari 3, then (once that is sorted) move forward from there. Anyway, here is a copy of a crash report from when I attempt to delete something from the bookmark bar (by right-clicking and choosing 'delete'). Maybe this will shed some light. I can't make head nor tail of it:

When I open a link in a new tab, firefox switches to the new tab
When I open a link and instruct to open in a new tab , it switches me to that tab !
I have under tools>options>tabs>
unchecked "switch to new tab immediately"
And it still switches to the new tab, this is frustrating...I fixed it by disabling the Divx add-ons in Firefox. Hope that helps you

Need a help relating New Tab on Mozilla.
I want to be able to directly type in the address bar everytime I open a new tab in Mozilla, without clicking anything. To be clearer, it means that everytime I open the new tab, the blinking cursor is already on the address bar.
What's happening right now is everytime I open new tab, the cursor is not placed anywhere--not on the search bar on the page, not on the address bar. I should put the cursor somewhere to do something.
I tried using the about:config reset (1) and installing custom new tab (2), but both do not work.
When I tried the about:config reset the Reset button is not highlighted (I assume it means it's default already), and the Custom New Tab doesn't yield in different result.
What confuse me is 2 days ago my Mozilla works just fine. Everytime I opened a new tab, the blinking cursor was on the address bar and I was able to type directly.

I read the link you copied on the first post and also tried your recommendation above. None seem to work. Even if I disable all add-ons, the problem still persists.
One other info, this problem seem to appear after I installed several program yesterday. These programs apparently installed other programs that set my homepage and main search engine to a particular website. But I installed all of these programs already. Would that be a cause of the problem?

Cannot open links in new tab without holding Ctrl
There is only one option i see in preferences for opening sites in new tabs. and it is called "Open links from applications..."
Even with this checked, by default all links open in a new window, unless I hold down Ctrl while clicking the link.
There MUST be a way to set ALL links to open in a new tab like every other browser I've used. No??Every single time this topic is raised, someone tries to claim there is a work-around, while seemingly forgetting that this is the Safari for Windows forum, and not the Safari for Mac forum.
This is the single biggest glaring omission from Safari for Windows. It completely defeats the purpose of even having tabs, which makes me wonder what in the world were the developers thinking.
Safari is a very pretty and fast browser, but I don't know many people who actually use it on a Windows machine due to the inability to simply open links in a new tab without right clicking or holding some extra button down. It's also the only mainstream browser for Windows that isn't capable of this simple task.
Having watched this issue since Safari 3, without ever seeing any response other then "oh, but just do this work-around" (that only works for Macs), my guess is we'll never see it happen. The funny thing is that when you look at the ini files that can be changed on the Mac version, they are pretty much identical to the Windows version. So, the "fix" not working simply means that whoever was in charge of the part of code related to tabs when porting to Windows must have consciously decided there was no need for the ability to open links in new tabs.
Proving once again that software engineers can be utterly clueless about the usability of their software. -

Hello, I would like to use Firefox as my default browser, but the reason I still use the old Netscape Navigator is that that clicking on my bookmarks Firefox is not opening new tab. Firefox initially opens new tabs as tabs, then switches to new windows
I am running FF 14.0.1 and the following problem has persisted through a number of versions.
Initially FF will open new tabs...Ctrl+t works, right-click open in new tab etc. all work fine. Sometimes tabs are now issue and I can have maybe 20 or more tabs open. Then other times we seem to get to some arbitrary limit, say 5 tabs, and from then on every new tab opens a new window. Any external link opens in a new window, a Ctrl+t opens as a new window, all new windows are single frame, e.g. you can't have a number of windows each of say 5 tabs, just the original window with (say) 5 and then a series of windows with only single pages in each and from which Ctrl+t only opens a new window.
A complete restart does sometimes cure things and I can go back to having different pages in different tabs, and then something...no obvious pattern...kick us into 'new window only' mode after which even if I reduce the number of tabs in the original multi-tabbed window, Ctrl+t only opens new windows.
It's really starting to get to me... I've trawled the support info and am wondering about a complete reset or even uninstall and re-install. places.sqlite is checked as being valid and I've reindexed it too, all to no effect.Well I think the following shows the odd state FF has got itself into. The main point then was that excepting the change in layout, that tabs didn't work at all; the option was greyed-out, the + tab did nothing and Ctrl+t did nothing.
The then stopped, deleted the new localstore.rdf and restored the old/orginal one and restarted. This restored my layout by still new tab is entirely gone...the option is greyed-out in the menus, the + tab dodn't work and Ctrl+t does nothing. Ctrl+n does give a new window. In addition:
# The forward and back buttons have disappeared
# The toolbars have disappeared despite showing as enabled in the View:Toolbars menu
Opening a new windows however give a correct layout, e.g. back and forward and toolbars appear and New tab is enabled, however, it either via menu of via Ctrl+t only opens new windows.
The start in Safe mode sadly didn't seem to help, but I will experiment further...

Firefox 2.x would open new tabs in the background, but ever since 3.0 it seems to completely ignore this setting.
They only focus for me on the first creation and not when they refresh.

Safari setting on iPad "Open New Tabs in Background" is not working
A couple of weeks ago, I decided that I wanted to see the tab bar in Safari, on my iPad, just like on my MacBook.
So, I went to...
Settings >> Safari
...and I turned OFF the setting "Open New Tabs in Background".
Then, the tab bar appeared and every new page that I opened displayed across the tab bar in a new tab, just like I wanted.
Today, I devised that I liked the pages in the background a lot better and I changed the setting to ON.
PROBLEM: the Tab Bar remains, no matter how many pages are open.
What's worse is that, in the menu bar, next to the bookmark and box-arrow icon, the numbered icon is missing (the icon that displays the number of the pages that you have open).
How do I get that icon back and the Tab Bar to disappear?Looks like some confusion here.
Safari on an iPad running iOS 6 as your signature implies does not open separate pages and the box with the number of open pages is not there. This was how Safari on an iPad worked in an earlier version of the iOS but safari presently only supports tabs.
When you select to turn on Open Pages in the Background, select a link and opening it in a new page will create a new tab and the link will load there BUT Safari on your iPad will remain on the original page. You'll need to tap the ba to see the new page. Turning off Open Pages in the Background will let Safari switch to the new tab immediately.
An iPhone, however, retains the old feature of separate windows and there is a box with a number at the bottom of the screen letting your know how many windows you have open. -
I used the same installation file, but on 1 pc, the 'open new tab' button is available in the 'customize toolbar' menu and can be dragged and dropped onto the navigation bar. On the other pc, the 'open new tab' button/icon is not even available for dragging and dropping. I uninstalled firefox completely, including settings and preferences, then reinstalled, but that did not correct the missing button.

Please try '''Restore Default Set''' in the '''Customize...''' window. If it's still not visible, one reason could be that the button is already placed on the toolbar but may be hidden behind another icon or toolbar.

Can't open new tab by going to file/new tab (or CTRL+T or clicking on the new tab field). Only way is to right click on a link and choose open in new tab.

I've used this custom navigation bar for nearly a decade. New versions of FireFox open new tabs when I navigate to different pages on my weather site. Very annoying!!! I've tried turning off tabs, but then it opens NEW WINDOWS! These links ARE NOT ENCODED TO OPEN IN NEW WINDOWS! What is causing this? Looks like I"m going to have to switch to Chrome or go back to IE, since nobody at Mozilla seems to care about this. They seem to think it is a good feature and not a bug. What gave you the right to decide to open new tabs at random times? If I click a link on a site that is on the same site I'm already on, and the link isn't coded for _blank, then it should open in the same window!
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
